Fairly seamless, although would appreciate more instruction on process. After completion, I could not enter the IRS account to pay my tax bill, resorted to old-school mail... then 2 days later, saw that I now have access...
When I first used this service, it worked seamlessly. The second time through, it failed miserably. The server was either too slow or non-responsive. And there is no way to contact a real person by phone or chat. All you can do is file a trouble ticket and sulk. They need to dedicate more resources on web servers and real people to support customers from all over the country.
I don't like this: that for all steps you need a cell phone text. What happens if I lose my phone? I guess I'm in BIG trouble. Don't like it. And that gives the phone thief too much power and control over my ID. I would prefer that there are other ways to authenticate without the need for my cell phone. Also. I am stuck with this phone and number now I guess.

Another app. Verification processing in my case took 4 days. No response on trouble ticket. No customer support phone number or chat. All data in one place waiting for massive breach. Links for support not readily available. Support is circular loops. Video support team insufficient bandwidth for streaming voice and video. Just a poor experience.

I have spent two stressful days trying to complete enrollment in aid.me, which is required to access my tax account at irs.gov. After countless attempts to get it to verify my phone, and three requests (unanswered) to the help desk, I gave up. The next day my phone blows up with all the verify codes that should have been sent previously. I finally finished the verification process, but when I try to log in to irs.gov using Id.me, I only get an error code. Maybe the site only works once a day.

Both times I've used this service (against my will, I might add) they have been totally unable to verify anything from military service to my numerous professional licenses. Absolutely useless and a waste of time. Do not use if you can avoid it.

I think your new system for ordering meds and reading my messages sucks. Whatever idiot implemented this system needs to remember that most of the vets are senior citizens and have a hard time signing in. I would not have given you one star if it would have let me.

Took me well over an hour and an actual human assistant (!) to do what should have taken ten minutes at most. The government needs to hire competent programmers to set this sort of thing up. Not everyone has a smart phone, some of us still use real computers. This site makes it almost impossible to do it on a computer.

This is among the least user-friendly and most unreliable systems I've run into. T took hours of attempts fielding "try later" messages, unannounced failures to accept information, and other obstacles to what ought to take just a few minutes. I can't tell if the problem is incompetent system design or bad system maintenance or some other problem, but I do know that trusting so badly-run a system with your information is foolhardy. Don't do it. Find another way. This one is nuts.

Frequent log-in hang-ups and crashes. Often requires multiple restarts.Always significantly slows the log-in process. SSA log-in with ID.me is so cumbersome that I avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

I live in an assisted living facility due to age, hearing and vision disabilities, and multiple medical issues. I am technologically challenged as a result.
Despite these issues and having an account, I was required to go through a video call since I changed addresses and phone numbers with my move into the assisted living facility.
ID.me was unwavering, even when offered more identify verification that they requested.
I was forced to send several weeks unsuccessfully navigating this process. Finally, my daughter was able to travel in from a great distance to assist me with the video call.
Please try to be kind and more ADA compliant in the future. I am surprised the Social Security Administration allowed this to happen in order to access their online system.

I entered all the information perfectly, which took about 10 minutes. In the final minute, it asked for my phone number, and I entered it correctly, yet it dead-ended my entire sign-up process saying the phone number does not match records. Um, false. My only recourse was to start all over and do the live agent method, which takes twice as long. Oh well, I thought at least I'm finished. Nope. After that, I went to the Virginia Employment Commision website to log in using my new ID.me credentials, and it would not log me in, saying the SS# that ID.me auto filled (which I could not see because it shows as all dots) does not seem to match my identity. Since that SS# field is auto filled, you can't even click on it. Checkmate. Tomorrow morning I'm going to have to waste an hour or 2 trying to get tech support from a human to fix this mess. ID.me already attempted to let their bot respond to my help ticket, and you can imagine how well that went.

To access my VA medical records online I had to acquire an ID.me account. I accessed my VA medical records online for years with a login that I acquired at a VA facility. My personal records were stolen before. From VA records. Next time the hackers will receive my photographed drivers license as well. Just cut and paste someone else's photograph and they are me. Every website now says says there stuff is secure. Maybe right up until a new hacker finds out how to get in. Everyone has heard this before "we are secure it would be impossible" hope so. This information in this review is my opinion only. I have done no research as to the security of ID.me

It was a major pain-in-the-neck to have to jump through all the hoops required. My several attempt to verify my identify with the automated video system using my cell phone's camera failed even after carefully following the guidelines provided. Same results occurred when using my desktop computer and a web cam. I'm a tech savvy person with a lot of patience, so I can't imagine how others suffered through the process.

I am a small business owner and My most frustrating experience has been trying to access IRS website using id.me as long in. After spending severely hours unsuccessfully trying to connect with them over the phone, I had to resort to this option. Anyways, I ended up sending all appeal documents via certified mail anyway!

I verified my identity when I first made my account. But now that I'm trying to file an unemployment claim, all of a sudden they can't verify my identity. So I call the number they suggested, just for it to tell me to go back to id me to verify my identity. At this point I call every possible phone number that could assist me with this particular issue and everything is automated. I absolutely hate it. There isn't even an option to speak with anybody. It's completely ridiculous how long I've literally been sitting here figuratively running in circles trying to get help, and each automated message just tells me to return to the website.

This ID.me software is "closed source". This means there is no way to verify that the software that is collecting all your personal, private information is being used in a manner that is disclosed by the company. These type of services are a honey pot for cyber attacks. Why does the IRS or other agencies or companies want to put users through this? It's a security risk.
If I could give negative stars I would.

Never could complete the process. The site just kept asking for more scans and selfies, until I finally just gave up and walked away. There HAS to be a better way. It's like they were dreaming up more ways to verify my identity with every step of the process. Find another way to get your task done.

Was very frustrating trying to set this up & while I understand the importance of preventing identity theft, this whole process to be able to gain access to my Social Security info. Is typical bureaucratic overkill.

I failed at protecting myself. I was so determined to complete this Government application and get through this obstacle of verifying my identity with ID.me. If not for the determination, detailed instructions, gentle prodding, team effort, of their customer support personnel, I probably, no, defiantly would have put myself in a position of becoming a victim of Identity Theft. I come to realize how important and how difficult a task must be for ID.me (as a Company). So please, help ID.me, help You, in protecting You.

This was everything you would be afraid it would be, knowing that this is a third-party provider selected by the US government. I cannot imagine they are able to retain any clients whose "customers" are not forced to continue having a business relationship with them. Should I ever encounter an actual commercial business that uses ID.me, I will immediately end any business relationship I have with that entity and find a competitor offering a comparable service that does not use ID.me

I was able to set up ID.me fairly quickly. They did a great job of blending a PC browser and mobile browser experience, which isn't easy to do. To anyone who's going to set it up, I would suggest getting your information together, along with your identification, before you start the process. This will enable you to complete the setup faster.

ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
Identity touches all sectors of the economy. But revealing the information that identifies us can be risky. At ID.me, we’ve changed this paradigm.
It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
Today, we’re building a digital identity network where users verify their identity once, and never have to re-verify their identity again across any organization where ID.me is accepted. It’s just like the driver's license in the physical world. Once you’re verified, proof of your identity goes with you everywhere.
