Fairly seamless, although would appreciate more instruction on process. After completion, I could not enter the IRS account to pay my tax bill, resorted to old-school mail... then 2 days later, saw that I now have access...
When I first used this service, it worked seamlessly. The second time through, it failed miserably. The server was either too slow or non-responsive. And there is no way to contact a real person by phone or chat. All you can do is file a trouble ticket and sulk. They need to dedicate more resources on web servers and real people to support customers from all over the country.
I was panic before the agent call because I don't know want the first question will be to avoid errors. But the agent speaks politely and asks his questions in a professional way which makes everything seem more interesting and everything goes smoothly.

After forcing me to send them pictures of my ID and other important, private documents over and unsecured connection, the system failed to verify me and I had to talk to a human on voice chat to make it happen. You can't pay the IRS without this nonsense id.me account, so they have no reason to ensure their service works. Make sure you have plenty of time to waste.

I had trouble verifying my ID.me account. After many emails representative Jonathan was with me every step of the way. He was patient, kind and best part is he was always there when I needed him. I email him and bam! He replies within a short period of time.
Excellent customer service.

The agent made the process a great experience and I will recommend anyone to use the customer service because they really help you solve the issue. From the first email up until I spoke with someone, everything was streamlined.

Apparently if you dont use ID.ME for 2 or 3 years, your "ID" expires. But why? You are the same person, correct? Why make the person go through the same process? Even when you renew your driver's license, you only need to provide docs if something like an address changes.
Anyways, no non-voip phone so i ended up having to do video verification. And it was pretty easy actually. About 8-10 min for the whole process...maybe the wait time for the video chat added another 3-4 min.

Everything went smoothly, after the agent provided a lot of help getting started. At the beginning, my almost complete ignorance of cell-phones and video stuff was an obstacle, but the complete professionalism, patience, and skill of the agent made the whole process, dare I say, enjoyable.
One minor beef: When I clicked on "Submit" below, it didn't work. When I checked this form, I saw the stars at the top. On clicking on them, I realized what they were. If someone clicks on "Submit" and there is a fault in the form, the user (me) should be informed of what the fault is.

I'm sure I've gone through this process with you before. I've had an account with you for some time and used it numerous times to gain access to government websites, so why did I have to go through this pain in the neck process again? It's all the worse because for some reason your facial recognition system doesn't like my face. It's the one I was born with, there have been no major changes, so why does it have such a hard time recognizing my face? Or maybe it is a poor system and has a problem with a lot of faces. Anyway, I finally got recognized and I hope I never have to go through that process again.

My experience with ID me came after my identity had been compromised! However, they were the steps to assure that you could travel to any of the personal information sites without paranoia of someone leaking into information! You don't want floating around!

It was a brutal set up procedure, but it pays off in the end by not having to take time to prove my identity to each agency I interact with. So far, it's helped with Social Security and state Unemployment Insurance benefits.

I had previously made an account, that I do not recollect making and it was such a hassle having to contact customer service to help. It took almost a week, a lot of emails back and forth, and uploading of documents to still get denied more than once because it kept rejecting my identity. I emailed CS more than I wanted to explaining to them about my frustration and having a duplicate account that I didn't recollect making and it felt like no one was reading my emails thoroughly because I just kept getting sent back to customer service. I didn't want to have to use ID.ME but I had to since government websites require their usage now. Otherwise I would've just not used ID.ME. My issue did finally get resolved after I sent another email out to customer service but it took longer than it should've.

Was able to access my account in less than a few minutes to get verified and check my status with the IRS, and getting through to them can be near impossible sometimes. Many thanks and will use again.

I've used ID.me for years with ease and security. These very details are the reason that I continue to use ID.me. I'm leery about the web in general but have used ID.me in Veteran Affairs and other government agencies. To my memory, they have not failed me yet! Thank you, ID.me.

ID.me fails as a service, and as technology too. Multiple failures to recognize a US passport (as opposed to a foreign one), to match one's driver's license with the right address to the same address in the credit history, etc etc. It feels absolutely wrong that to access one's own IRS records, a person has to deal with this private company. The government should have never outsourced their verification process to ID.med

I recently used Id.me to get in to community college website. The process is very easy, smooth and quick. Even changing the existing details due to error in id.me also got updated with in 24 hrs even though they mentioned it will take 1 to 3 business days.

I've been trying to make an account since October 29 and they wouldn't verify my identity or accept the pictures of my documents. It was hell because there's no humans to talk to throughout this process. If you're considering using id.me, don't!

It was unexpected. Truly needed. At my age complications with logins can take all day. The process is fast and multiple verification steps. Being verifiable on major platforms after detailed verification helps me eat dinner on time! Thank you!

Have valid IDs, know Social Security, Navy disabled vet with compensation.
But after multiple entering of data start to finish, ID.me decides I do not Exist.
Useless software and program
I am not back to M-F 8-5 telephone contact with my VA.
This is crap.

I live currently outside USA and at the moment can't travel back to set my documents for retirement.
I was advised by SS Federal Unit in Athens,Greece to create an account with IDdotme company, which is qualified to provide services i need. I was instructed, supported and helped from day one as my case has peculiarities and it is not easy. Several professionals guided me patiently throughout the procedure communicating in timely manner and assisting my process with clear instructions what to do next. For everyone with problematic cases who needs a trustworthy company to help with verification I strongly recommend ID.me! Outstanding service and excellent teams who work with you until final success!

16 years working for the government and ID.me managed to win for being the worst system. Impossible to resolve any issues. There is no contact number, no email support, and therefore impossible to resolve issues outside of the common concerns addressed by Roy the moronic AI bot. Do not create an account or use if other options exist (CAC, DS Login, etc.). I can only imagine how helpless this system makes aging vets feel as they try to use it to access critical resources. Vets deserve better. Look up their reviews on the BBB.

It took me 17 verification attempts over a period of 3 days to finally get one approved. When you are older and have hand tremors taking a picture of a document isn't easy. Besides that even the scans from my multifunction printer were not accepted. I did try the in-person verification at a UPS kiosk & that wasn't any better as the camera is stationary, but you are now holding the document.
Besides the above be sure you know exactly what they are verifying. Every choice of primary and/or secondary documents they accept do not work.

Registering with "ID.me" for IRS account access is exclusive and does not permit using
" Login.gov" signon data. Social security website enables a choice.
See statement from SS site below. I have both now & not sure if either will work when I attempt to log in. This experience casts doubt on how secure my identity is protected.
"ID.me is a single sign-on provider that meets the U.S. government's online identity proofing and authentication requirements. Please consider using ID.me if you live outside the United States.
Please note that you do NOT need to create a new ID.me credential specifically for Social Security purposes. You can use one ID.me account to access both government and business services."

As I said in their post-use survey, it's probably the least worst option for accessing the various mostly government sites it's available for. The only real hassle was getting the live image verification to work properly. Also, some of the feedback during the process was less than detailed or helpful.

I have tried multple times to set up an account with Login.gov, but had many issues. There is no tech support or any way for an agent to help through the process. ID.me is quick, easy, and thoroughly checks your information to make sure that it is safe. Best of all I completed it in one try and have access to multiple government agency sites.

Logging into the IRS was very quick. I'm not sure why a shopping service is providing online access to government agencies, but I have not had any negative issues so far. I have been using the service for over a year.
Date of experience: December 6, 2024
Numerous steps across multiple accounts and multiple devices. System lags and resets constantly. Extremely frustrating, difficult and time consuming to use this service. If there was ZERO STARS I would select that option.

ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
Identity touches all sectors of the economy. But revealing the information that identifies us can be risky. At ID.me, we’ve changed this paradigm.
It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
Today, we’re building a digital identity network where users verify their identity once, and never have to re-verify their identity again across any organization where ID.me is accepted. It’s just like the driver's license in the physical world. Once you’re verified, proof of your identity goes with you everywhere.
