Fairly seamless, although would appreciate more instruction on process. After completion, I could not enter the IRS account to pay my tax bill, resorted to old-school mail... then 2 days later, saw that I now have access...
When I first used this service, it worked seamlessly. The second time through, it failed miserably. The server was either too slow or non-responsive. And there is no way to contact a real person by phone or chat. All you can do is file a trouble ticket and sulk. They need to dedicate more resources on web servers and real people to support customers from all over the country.
I'd.me is super easy to sign up for and takes only minutes to get you verified. Once verified there are tons of retailers and others who offer deep discounts for their products. You owe it to yourself to get verified today

To me, it's very difficult to navigate through there website. Everything is buried in it. And every time I click on anything, I have to sign in again and wait for the system to send me a code. I hate it.
Date of experience: November 26, 2024
Used it for the first time, with some trepidation, not sure how reliable it is (especially with sensitive documentations) and doubting if it is user friendly.
Even I cross- checked with another Govt. Agency, who assured the usefulness and also trust worthy-ness. All this without the usual sterness of a Govt. Business and simple and straightforward interface/ web page and prompt follow through.

Needed to access my health but site is changing sign in format. Couldn't do it by myself so went to VA CBOC in my city. Lady assisted me, process was fairly easy not complicated at all. Pleased to now be able to access easily. Now that I'm identified.

Not sure U even am in the system. The sign in process was complicated and I feel extremely uneasy that I had to provide my social security number on line. I don't believe I have ever done that before and in retrospect truly wish I had not done that.

I signed up to get my social security information and it gave me this message "Unable to complete your request. Try again later" after I spent my time signing up and entering all my personal information….I can't even get the social security amount I needed from the website.

You will be herded into ID.me as the only way to access help from IRS.gov. You will be tricked into have all your personal details housed with this 3rd party company and STILL not be able to receive the help you need on IRS.gov! Save your time, save your privacy and skip signing up. The IRS is so backward, underfunded, and incompetent you'll ultimately still have to have your issue solved on the phone after 2.5+ hrs of being on hold.

Stressful.
Hiring a non familiar accounting firm to file a one time US tax return.
Paying userous fees to get it done.
Weeks after you were given the filed tax documents showing a refund you receive a new email telling you that you have been selected for an identity verification.
Considering all the information you have given the accounting firm as well as sending your actual passport by courier why is further verification necessary?

My CPA was able to settle some financial matters for me while I was deployed. ID.me allowed authorizations for my CPA that normally requires documents with a wet signature. A process that can take several days or a couple weeks was streamlined to minutes of work with immediate results while eliminating the worry of mailing documents should those documents not arrive at a needed address.

They have a lot of authentication you have to go through but once it's all done it's worth it,. Not to mention it's the future it will be the requirement in the beginning of next year,. I will admit I was frustrated at the beginning of the signing in process but the team they have were their to help and got me squared away,.

See above statement. If everything isn't perfect, you will have to reverify your address, oh, there's a SPACE in your name? Start over unless you want to wait for a live representative to prove you're real. That's after you have all the papers that are up to date to verify that you can verify verified

The short time it took me to get verified was well worth the discount, and future discounts. The free shipping alone was worth the experience. Don't hesitate, enter your information and you're on your way.

I have used IRS.gov for years.
I recently needed a document and IRS.gov requires ID.me.
My computer skills are intermediate level. I was able to use IRS.gov just fine---until I created an account that ID.me.
ID.me verified that I had set up my account correctly.
Unfortunately, the IRS.gov website denied access to me. When I telephoned IRS.gov, it appear that my experience is not unique AND I have to resolve the issue with ID.me through the website ID.me

If anyone is not familiar with selfie taking or video conferencing, (like many elderly or older/less tech savvy people) you might very well be frustrated and unable to complete process. I would recommend having a younger person with you when attempting or you may not be able to complete process.

I was nervous as applying from abroad but the whole experience was pretty straightforward and worked well. I had to have a video call as the final step of verification and Michael made me feel at ease and the whole thing was easy peasy- on a Saturday no less!
A lovely final touch to have a real person. It was pretty seamless switching between phone and iPad

This seems like a pointless service that makes what should be a simple process hard. I'm guessing someone got a kickback to make it so veterans need to use this $#*!ty service just to access the services we are entitled to.

Overall satisfactory, with a comprehensive approach to the specificity of the questions asked. Equally pleased with the personal service and the on-call clerks and their professional training as well as humanly behavior.

I wasn't aware of this service until I spoke with the IRS about a data breach that a credit agency told me about and had leaked some of my information. In order to protect myself better, I reached out to the IRS to see what steps AI should take and they suggested creating an account on their website. I am glad that I did, because I feel like my information is a little more protected now. Creating the account was very easy, fast, and helpful. You can upload your documents of identity and then you will be verified with a live representative on a video chat. I liked the fact that the representative could see my face and see my documents to make a quick confirmation of my identity. The website also has a plethora of categories to choose from once you create your account. I highly recommend doing this!

I had an issue with needing my ID updated and they refused to let me update it. Which disqualified me from getting unemployment quickly. I tried to email or chat for help and it didn't work. Ontop of that there is not a customer service representative or phone number to get ahold of anyone for help.

It's super easy to do. Just an answer a couple of easy basic questions about where you work. Submitting your proof was very easy to do from a mobile device or a computer. Received my approval in about 5 mins.
Date of experience: August 26, 2024
Terrible turnaround time, negligible technology online via mobile and computer, glitchy website technology, extremely low almost non-existent customer service.
This service is absolutely horrible and this is the experience of NJ citizenry as it relates to Unemployment Benefits. Why the State of New Jersey chose this particular company is totally reprehensible, The staff at this company, whenever they are able to be reached, are rushed and behave like robots, it feels like the staff has either been reduced, or they are forced to deal with the same faulty technology (or BOTH).
ID.Me is terrible, and you don't have to take my word for it… just look at all the reviews on Facebook. Ridiculous, this company is a joke. Took me 5 days to troubleshoot something which is basically their central function - I had to troubleshoot the document upload process - for 5 days playing hot potato with this company. 5 days.
Tip for consumers:
Terrible company.

Took approximately 4 hours the first day to change my EMail from government to personnel. I can't access my government Email from home. Took another 4 to 5 hours to finally get access to VA.gov site. Got to be a better way. I am a disabled Vet, but still have brains to know this is ridiculous

My account is linked to an email I do not recognize and I'm pretty sure this is how I was the victim of identity theft. After someone filed taxes with my personal information, I was not able to get any help from ID.me. It is impossible to get someone to reach out. This company should not be responsible with having personal information that is linked to government agencies.

I wanted to see if I could access a vital information.I was shocked to see they worked on Sunday. It was fast and no long waiting time. Two minutes to be precise as I needed to get my documents so that was fine. I connected with an agent, the emails and code came fast as well.
The Agent I did a zoom call was nice and helpful. Very calm and guided me all through.
I recommend using them, you will be amazed.

This is not an application for the faint-hearted. In order to maintain the highest security, it can be complicated to use, and will require a lot of persistence. However, you can feel safe that everyone who is accepted eventually is actually genuine, and that's the important thing.

ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
Identity touches all sectors of the economy. But revealing the information that identifies us can be risky. At ID.me, we’ve changed this paradigm.
It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
Today, we’re building a digital identity network where users verify their identity once, and never have to re-verify their identity again across any organization where ID.me is accepted. It’s just like the driver's license in the physical world. Once you’re verified, proof of your identity goes with you everywhere.
