Match Reviews Summary

Match.com exhibits a polarized reputation among its users, with significant concerns overshadowing its strengths. Positive feedback highlights the site's potential for connecting users, particularly for younger demographics, and its broad user base. However, a predominant sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with customer service, marked by unresponsive support, unjust account terminations, and perceived deceptive practices regarding subscription fees. Many users report frustrations over a lack of transparency and the prevalence of fake profiles, leading to a sense of mistrust. Overall, while Match.com offers opportunities for connections, its customer service and business practices warrant serious scrutiny.

You can not reach match customer service people directly. These are the people who can actually fix stuff on your account. There is an intermediary group of people that you can call by phone but they have no power over your account. So when there is something wrong with your account, you have no ability to reach them and you are at their mercy to answer. My account has been locked over a week and they cant do anything about it and will not respond even though i called and emailed many times. Its a scam... stay away.

I joined for 3 months last year (in May) and immediately got lucky and met a fantastic person who was a great match. Unfortunately it didn't last so I decided to give another try this summer. It started out OK, but most of the men I met looked older than their photos or stated age. After I burned through a couple months of matches without any luck, I started receiving the exact same guys recycled through as a suggested match. Then I started receiving really bad looking men who looked like losers or convicts. Not even close to my list of traits. At the same time, I was getting two to three fake profile likes and messages per day! I'd get an email that someone "liked" my photo and/or sent me a message. When I'd click on them, even within 30 minutes, their profile no longer existed. I was getting wise to be able to spot fake profiles. They use horrible punctuation and grammar, plus a lower case "i" when talking about themselves. This is supposedly from someone who has a graduate degree. Yeah, right! I actually spotted a couple of different profiles with the EXACT same wording. I'm getting very skeptical now. Even if they sound halfway decent in their personal message to me, I'm reluctant to believe them. It's really ruining the whole experience. The real men don't want to invest the time to get to know you and decide after 2 hours whether you're worthy of another meeting. After my subscription is up this time I will not renew. Way too many fakes are ruining the experience. I can't figure out why they enjoy scamming people. No one has asked me for money yet, but they sure try and get your phone number/email right up front! Don't do it!

Auto renewed without my knowledge, expensive service, then refused my refund when I wasn't using the site. Customer service weren't just rude but passive aggressive and actively unhelpful.

Complete scam!
August 24, 2017

So earlier today I joined this site as a non member. I saw a guys profile I liked and sent as smiley face as a non member. This act automatically brought up some message and subscribe now. Which I clicked on. It took me to a site that had a 6 month bundle for 21.99 a month. I thought what the check lets give this a whirl. So I put in my credit card info and next thing I know it says it charged 131! I'm like is this a joke? So I immediately call the customer service line thinking it would not be an issue to get a refund. Boy was I wrong! Not only did they not give me a refund, they wouldn't let me speak to a manager, were rude and condescending and hung up on my face... twice!

And get this, they said I was not eligible for a refund bc I sent an email... apparently that message that popped up after I clicked the smiley face was sent automatically!... so now I've paid 131 to send one email that I didn't write or send! I'm at work but once I get off I will find the higher ups and get my refund. How on earth is that legal? -5 from me!

Plus they keep taking the money out of your account without contacting you even thou I was clearly not using there 'services' (I use that word very loosely) Do not waste your time or money

This is the epitome of taking advantage of people"s emotion. Do believe all of the complaints you read posted by current and former users of Match. Com. DO NOT BELIEVE the false stories and advertisements that this company throws at you. Or, spend the money and find out for yourself! They should be prosecuted for false and misleading representation...

SCAM SCAM SCAM
August 10, 2017

I joined match a few days ago. I thought that I would pay $21 a month for 6 months. I check my account and it had taken the full amount out of my account. Which ended up being $139. As soon as I signed up and checked my account I tried to get a refund, within 5 minutes of signing. THEY DON'T GIVE REFUNDS. I then decided to make the best of it because I already spent a fortune. I've messaged a few people with no replies. I went to see if they read the messages. Then there is a link saying GUARANTEE THEY CAN REPLY. They literally can't reply without paying an additional $56 for the 6 months. Are you kidding me?!?! What was the point of me paying in the first place. I don't care to look at pictures of people that I can't talk to. BIGGEST SCAM EVER!

Match Sucks
August 7, 2017

Its a useful site but the number of fake profiles is ridiculous and annoying. My profile was hijacked and it took days to recover. They don't seem to care. If you have Firefox as a browser you can't even communicate with Match via email unless you change your browser, in other words they want to load you up with cookies. Once you deactivate your account they leave your profile up and then every time someone hits your page they send you a note saying someone is trying to contact you, you better sign back up. Its annoying.

Joined July 2017. Nothing but scammers. Fake military and even an "old lady" that emails you about dating her "boss" in Maryland! Couldn't believe how bad it was. Match.com is the website used most by scammers in Russia and Africa. Don't take my word for it. It's been written up by Huffington Post and there are even warnings from the Military! Glad I only wasted one month payment on this travesty of a dating site. No wonder they have to advertise so much. I want a refund!

I see lots of people posting negative comments about Match.com, but people should be realistic about what they're trying to do. Match.com allows people looking for someone special to have access to a pool of individuals they normally would not come into contact with due to geographic proximity, being in different social circles, having a tight work schedule or even just not feeling comfortable with the bar scene or approaching random strangers and striking up a conversation. The people on Match are the same people you work with, see in the store or at a friend's cookout. This site just brings eligible people hoping to find someone together. Yes, there are people with fake profiles, and some who are scammers. I ran into them too. But, after having been on and off (when I was dating someone) over the course of 4 years, I met some amazing women, many of whom are still friends today. The key to Match.com is being smart. Don't allow yourself to have an email/texting/phone relationship with someone for an extended length of time. You're setting yourself up for trouble. Treat it as you would any relationship -- email for a few messages, and get a feel for the person. Talk over the phone, ask some good questions, then decide if you want to meet for a brief meeting -- in a public place. If you hit it off, go out again. If not, you don't have to communicate. Listen to your gut instincts, and if things don't sound right with the person, discontinue contact. These are the same kinds of things you would do if you were talking to a person you met face to face somewhere. If people aren't smart about dating, they're going to get burned -- and that is not Match.com's fault. I met my wife on Match.com, and followed all of these steps. She's a fantastic woman, and she's REAL. No games or deception (avoid those), the things she told me about herself matched up with reality (verified that stuff, too), and we have a great life together neither of us had imagined before Match.com. I'd been looking for a long time, she joined when given an ultimatum by her sisters that they were going to create a profile if she didn't, and met me a few months later. MATCH.COM WORKS! But, just as in real life, don't expect a homerun your first time at bat. Be realistic about the process, give it time, don't be in a rush, and don't make bad decisions. This is a golden opportunity for people, if they use it wisely.

There is basically no site that has such a large selection of singles. Really, I am not crazy about Match and actually prefer Mingle2day and Tinder when I'm on business trips but you won't find a site that offers so many users. Don't know what everyone's complaining about, to be honest.

Waste of money
July 31, 2017

I give 10+ on what "SEEMS" like a variety - you get more freebies features on POF, HARMONY, FB
They continuously send daily matches with people who you have NO interest in - when I say BLACK ONL/DIVORCE /SINGLE/NON SMOKING/No LONG DISTANCE/47+, I mean exactly that - why have me MATCHED UP with MEN WHO I HAVE NO INTEREST IN? EVEN POF DON'T EVEN ALLOW PEOPLE to contact you, when you make selection - I got a 6 month subscription, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN.
IF YOUR going go charge, SASTIFY THE CUSTOMER
OTHER POTENTIAL/EXISTING CUSTOMERS
BUYER BEWARE!

Decided to sign up for a 1 month subscription... which works out cheaper if you go for the 3 or 6 month's plan.
Sadly whilst the subscription gives you the ability to message users, this membership is restricted that the only members that can reply are premium users. Unless the person you want to talk to, upgrades to a subscription like you have or you UPGRADE your current subscription to CONNECT... which will allow all members of the site to respond to your messages. That upgrade itself costs £9.90 a month on top of your current subscription just to send messages...

In all likelihood unless you want to restrict yourself to messaging only premium users and avoid having to pay the upgrade on top of your subscription on the site. You will seriously be limiting your choices. As the majority of users are free non premium users...

So if you go for the 6 month's plan of £9.99 but decide to have the upgrade Connect to allow free members to message you back... it's going to cost you around £19.89 almost the same as a 3 month subscription costs without the Connect upgrade...

It's a con and rip off!

Waste of Money
July 23, 2017

I went online and joined Match.com in July 2017. My selections were to join for one month or either join for 6 months at a slightly less charge. So I decided to join for just one month. I never got an email that I can remember stating my terms of contract and payment authorization. While on the Match dating site, I chatted with a few people and emailed a lot more and I never got a response. I was beginning to think there were fake profiles like on all of the other dating sites. And overall the site was no better. After a month, I got my credit card statement and I noticed that I was being charged for an additional month from Match.com. It is currently in dispute and looks like Match was charging me for recurring payments and I didn't sign up for that. So I am really ticked off about this site. And per some other reviews on here, I am afraid they could reuse my closed profile which I have also witnessed them doing on Zoosk. I hope not. Don't waste your money!

I joined Match.com a year ago and had a terrible, terrible experience. I created a genuine profile seeking a genuine woman for a long-term relationship. I literally sent out many messages to women, probably well over a 100, only to get a few responses... 19 year old out of my geographical area, in a different country, or responses of women with no pics. I was fed up and I cancelled. This month, July, 2017, I joined again on their 1 month promotion, in hopes of a better experience... WHAT A SHOCK... as soon as I created a profile, again fake reply's and young women in different country's started rolling in. The women in my area that are suppose to be active members are not. I complained to the call center of Match as you will not get through to anyone that is actually employed by the company. The call center rep was extremely RUDE to me and spoke to me like a kindergarten child with autism... constantly repeating herself, and speaking over me... would not even listen to the concerns. I then went online and used the Match 72 hour complaint customer care email line only to find out that the next day they deleted my profile... I received an email from Match noon time that same day saying, I quote (" Please know that due to our terms of use, your Match account has been terminated, we cannot disclose specifics> if you wish to obtain additional information, a valid SUBPOENA SEARCH WARRANT, OR COURT ORDER DIRECTED TO MATCH IS REQUIRED"). What kind of joke is this? I had to call my visa provider, FRAUD dept to get the multiple charges by Match.com reversed. I WOULD NEVER, EVER USE THIS DATING SITE AGAIN! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, AND A BIG WASTE OF TIME!

Decided to try this site... had issues from the start. It duplicated pictures and wouldn't allow me to delete. They had my birthday wrong by 24 years, therefore I was getting matched with men way too young and after hours and many tries to edit these problems, I gave up. I have tried many times to reach customer service and have had zero success. They offer a "free" trial but you have to give your cc info and sign up to get the free trial. Basically just a waste of time and money for me. I'm adding to this review that the first match they sent me that seemed a good connection turned out to be a predator... he pretended to fall madly in love and was only trying to get personal info including my salary and address and got angry when I refused to give it. Upon investigation, his info, email, website and everything about him was a front. Match.com sent him to me as a match even though he was 4 hours out of my desired range. Be aware ladies... this site does not screen the dangerous people they are sending your way. Also you should know I am a woman seeking to meet a man as a match and they constantly send me women as matches for me.

In 3 months, I think I talked to 2 people via the email function. I am a normal guy with a nice car and a graduate degree and job. I am reasonably attractive. I am funny and easy to get on with. I have actually had successes with other dating websites to some extent. What you notice about match.com is that: Nearly everyone on it over 30 is divorced and has kids. Most have had bad experiences (aka baggage) that led them to become divorced. Most are super duper paranoid about answering a simple, "hello, how are you". Like what do they expect, a world class prose about the meaning of love in North America? Something about the way this site is marketed says, "please sign up here if you are a disguntled angry person who is not really serious about dating but just making a token stab at it.
There are tons of other sites... Or better yet: Meet someone the old fashioned way! See them and talk to them and ask them out. I can't complain about the fees because I did consent to sign up for the time I did. But that doesn't mean I dont regret it!
