They hide the fact that they will autobill/auto renew (for your benifit), and once you figure it out, its too late. They also refuse to refund unused portions of a subscription

Greedy and Useless
March 13, 2023

I've been a member YET AGAIN since jan, and the service has gone done. They charge for EVERYTHING, as if the monthly charge isn't enough. Want extra boosts? You pay for it. Want to talk to the HOT girls? You have to buy extra SUPERlikes, most of who will NEVER reply to you cause they are no longer on the site. I've been stood up more times than i care to mention, telling me that these are PAID TROLLS who aren't interested in dating, but PAID by MATCH to make it APPEAR they are daters. WHERE are we to meet QUALITY WOMEN who are looking exactly for that man who knows how to treat a woman, has a fantastic well compensated job, and is handsome? Cause it SURE isn't match.com

Laughable scam
January 3, 2016

So, I joined this site thinking it was free, made an account, started poking around and immediately noticed all I can do is "Wink" at people... Pretty lame and I felt like a creeper. They don't even include a messaging service without you having to pay $30 or more, so i got crafty... Myself, refusing to pay for some laymen's website tried to hide my email in a puzzle; a random sentence with letters in caps in the right order to write out my email, hoping what I thought was an automated system wouldn't be able to figure it out... Well, I guess they actually have people reading through everyone's profiles and they don't have a sense of humor... They deleted the paragraph. Then I tried putting it in my username and it didn't get taken down. So, maybe if I had kept the account for more than 24hrs, I may have gotten some emails. But I decided that the site is pathetic and I want no part in that sh*t. Apparently, you can reactivate your account tho. They keep you on file even after you say to DELETE the account. Spooky. I read some horror stories about the site and was glad I didn't succumb to any similar circumstances. Stay the hell away from Match, folks. I did have a bit of fun trying to beat their system tho.

Terrible Experience
November 2, 2015

I've tried a ton of free dating apps for a while and toyed with using a paid site to see if the experience would be any better. I registered with Match for free, they'd send regular email matches and I began favouriting them as a free subscriber.

After a couple of months I decided to fork out for a subscription, with the minimum three month commitment. I went to my favourites page to start messaging some people and to my alarm every single one of them wasn't an active user. Obviously Match don't make this clear as a free subscriber. Whether these are genuine former users or fake users Match make up I don't know, but of the active available users were not one was of the calibre I'm interested in dating. Clearly match.com and I have very different values.

Obviously I spoke to customer services the next day. Obviously they flatly refused to refund even part of the $90 I've paid for three months of service I'm not interested in using. Sounds like I'm not the only person who's had this experience. The Better Business Bureau has revoked their accreditation and given the business and F rating because of over 450 unanswered complaints about their billing policies. (Google it: I can't post a link here.)

My advice - search online for a three-day trial offer before you consider giving these people any money. Maybe you'll connect with the people on the site in a way I didn't, but at least you'll know before you hand over any money. Alternatively, get yourself to a bar, start meeting people in real life and spend that $90 you'll have saved on a great night out.

Decided to sign up for a 1 month subscription... which works out cheaper if you go for the 3 or 6 month's plan.
Sadly whilst the subscription gives you the ability to message users, this membership is restricted that the only members that can reply are premium users. Unless the person you want to talk to, upgrades to a subscription like you have or you UPGRADE your current subscription to CONNECT... which will allow all members of the site to respond to your messages. That upgrade itself costs £9.90 a month on top of your current subscription just to send messages...

In all likelihood unless you want to restrict yourself to messaging only premium users and avoid having to pay the upgrade on top of your subscription on the site. You will seriously be limiting your choices. As the majority of users are free non premium users...

So if you go for the 6 month's plan of £9.99 but decide to have the upgrade Connect to allow free members to message you back... it's going to cost you around £19.89 almost the same as a 3 month subscription costs without the Connect upgrade...

It's a con and rip off!

Waste of money
July 31, 2017

I give 10+ on what "SEEMS" like a variety - you get more freebies features on POF, HARMONY, FB
They continuously send daily matches with people who you have NO interest in - when I say BLACK ONL/DIVORCE /SINGLE/NON SMOKING/No LONG DISTANCE/47+, I mean exactly that - why have me MATCHED UP with MEN WHO I HAVE NO INTEREST IN? EVEN POF DON'T EVEN ALLOW PEOPLE to contact you, when you make selection - I got a 6 month subscription, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN.
IF YOUR going go charge, SASTIFY THE CUSTOMER
OTHER POTENTIAL/EXISTING CUSTOMERS

I was on match just before covid, and it was good. However, it has now taken steps to charge more for you to get less. For example, you have to pay to send a message to those who likely would be better matches for you under a section called "Highlights." I noted the differences in that and the section under "Discover" that still allowed me to send a message. Match separates choices out and should not. Why would they have that right? Further after you "like" and send a message, you can't see what you sent unless they match you back. Further my "like" number would go up but no new profile would show up under "who liked me!" So maybe I had 32 likes and it went to 33. I would check under the "who liked me" and the profile would still be #32! Where did they go? It was very disconcerting and much less consumer-friendly. I am still unsure who I might have missed. Not to be arrogant at all, but I am pretty nice-looking, am truly slim and healthy looking; further I have a solid, non-drama profile--with some pleasant humor that would be attractive. When I was on previously, as I mentioned, I got so many responses to my likes--this time it was like they never even saw my "like" to them. I have even wondered if their "algorithm" is off? This was a complete waste of time and money since the changes are in place. I say "Run, Forrest, run!"

I gave Match the benefit of the doubt and actually expected they would fix what I HOPED was just a technical glitch. But I'm here to warn you, do not give this company any money! They don't care a single iota about their customers and, after a quick Google search I discovered they have a nasty habit of blocking accounts for no reason.

I created an account, tried to message someone, (not realizing you have to be subscriber) and then just kept getting error messages on and off before I was finally blocked from logging in at all.

I thought surely it's just a glitch, so I tried again with a different e-mail address. I was blocked before I'd even finished setting up my account.

I thought surely it's just because I'm not subscribed and since I couldn't log in to purchase a subscription, I set up yet another account but this time subscribed up front.

Same thing happened again. I can't log in, can't do anything. I have not violated Terms and Conditions in any way, shape or form (how would I? I can't even get my profile filled out!) and yet, I received an e-mail informing me that my original account was blocked due to a violation which Match cannot disclose due to their privacy policy and the exact same e-mail to my third, subscribed e-mail address!

I'm leaving this review on every site I can find so as few people will get taken in as possible. I'm also reporting them to the BBB... which apparently has been done before and Match said they would remedy the issues after getting a poor rating. What a pity it's been a year and nothing has changed!

I don't like auto re bill, so I ask them about how to not be re billed before joining. They told me right where to go after joining and click the box to not be re billed which I did, I'm thinking that when my 3 months is close to being up, they will let me know to rejoin for another 3 or my emails from match will stop automatically. But these dishonest money hungry out for themselves and not for us sight disregarded my auto re bill and quietly sent 4 emails that me not paying attention to being past my 3 months and re billed over 74 dollars and will not refund my money, so I have to file a claim against them. This is what makes them real sleazy is they ask for my cancellation # which they did not give me after cancelling after joining so I would a lose ground against a claim after opening 4 emails after 3 months and no cancellation #. These people are as bad as they get! They are out for your money and not for our love life. I also got only a few replies in 3 months because most are free members that they offer to get your picture and account to make them look big and bait us along with girls that will never be able to reply, unless they PAY and as with me PAY AND PAY!

The WORST when it comes to surprise lockouts that take too long to respond. And you look like you ghosted your date. And then... they locked me out for good. And nothing to indicate any bad conduct.

I have been on Match.com several times and have been disappointed both times. This dating site, purportedly the largest of it's kind, is not inexpensive and does not allow someone to purchase a monthly membership--only three months or more. Yes, I am quite picky about my dating choices but many of the women on here are equally or more so, particularly in the matter of "financial security." I frequently saw many women's ads that requested men to have incomes of 150k plus! I never actually dated any women on Match because I encountered same old problem--not interested in women who sent me winks and never heard back from women that I was interested in. But my BIGGEST beef with the site and one that makes me suspect that Match is almost a scam was this--while a member I would go for long periods of no activity whatsoever. The moment my membership expired I was bombarded with winks and supposed messages from women. This really ticked me off to the point where I unsubscribed Match and will not have anything to do with them again!

I was very specific in my profile and in my comments about just what I was looking for in a partner. Match sent me full pages of gay men and women, they sent me a photo of Joe Biden in front of the American flag, people whose faces you couldn't see because they were covered with hats, goggles and masks. A lot of people just having their fun at my expense and Match doesn't stop them. They really thought Biden was a possibility for me? And the scammers! If I could easily detect them, why couldn't they? If they're algorithms are so sophisticated, why do they allow them to get through to legitimate subscribers? $$$$$$ They could care less about your happiness unless it means a referral to them. To anyone out there, but especially women, before trying any online dating service, watch some YouTube videos about the typical dating scammer and how they operate. One guy from Match followed this step by step. Even found him on BBB where someone had filed a complaint against Match a few years ago under a different name, but he tried to do the same to me. And when they tell you, check out my website online, just remember, anyone can create a website. He just did a lousy job of it. Do your detective work. Don't accept excuses. Match, you should be ashamed. You don't even deserve one star for allowing people like that to join. You need to create a system with background checks. I, for one, would be much more likely to try it. But you've turned me off against all of them now.
