This service is much cheaper than Ancestry.com and I find it much more functional as a tool for collaboration with other distant relatives. The 'smart match' function is a great efficiency once you get the hang of it, allowing you to share labor with others and quickly go back hundreds of years. While the software is still in beta form in many ways, the staff is very helpful in working out the kinks. It's a win-win because they help us use the software while we help improve the product. When I hit a bug, a staffer spent 45 minutes with me and we were able to overcome it. Other than that one bug, everything has been smooth sailing, and the cloud and local backups make my data safe.

Tip for consumers:
Be patient about waiting for responses. It takes a few days, but the service is great once they get back to you!

I want to cancel my subscription because i'm within my 30 day regret of buy, but i've already sent 3 e-mails in 2 languages over 2 weeks ago and got no answer, so today i've contacted you guys again with the Dean P. In the subject, hope i can resolve this matter before my 30 days run out or i'll have to appeal to my credit card company.

Customer representative was very helpful with getting my husband kit off my profile and on to his. I think the monthly or yearly prices should be lowered considering you have to buy the kits. Especially if you got more than one like I did. I sent my kits in weeks ago and it just said they arrived. I paid for 1-3 day arrival via usps. I don't believe that it took that long for it to arrive in Utah. We will see what the rest is like later than soon. I'm sure.

I' m still debating regarding the coverage for South America area, (Brazil, to be more specific). My perception is that most companies did not have a very good coverage for that as we see for North Hemisphere. This step me back.

Do not waste your money. The relationships within my family were confirmed by the DNA tests but the ethnicity results made no sense. One of my children was supposed to be 23% Iberian despite my husband being only 4.5% and myself 0%!
I have had no response from Myheritage to my telephone and email messages requesting an explanation.

I gave it one star because the kit had a nice design. THAT'S ALL! I was sucked into it because they are a tiny bit cheaper than ancestry but my son used ancestry and got results, which, based on our knowledge of our family history, are spot on! One of the swabs you use to give them a sample of the cells in your mouth broke. I emailed them on their "Contact Us" site several weeks ago and have heard nothing. I've tried to call during the hours they say they're available but no one answers and there is no way to leave a message. Stay away!

I cannot praise the staff at My Heritage highly enough. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
I have had my DNA results and they are quite fascinating if a little surprising.
Through family contacts a completely new line of family from Ireland has been uncovered, and my late mother's unknown father turned up, as well as sisters and a brother she never knew she had.
On my father's side two of his brothers who were traumatised during work war one are recorded of whom I knew nothing.
A fascinating site well worth joining.

The results are basically useless. No one has trees built, and the research functions are convoluted and difficult to incorporate into your own tree. I paid extra to upgrade my membership because I was told there were so many more matches, but not visible until I upgraded, only to find that what I could see on the basic version was about all there was. I have spent money on three DNA tests (my kids and me) plus a year's full membership. And I've already gotten all the use out of the results that are possible. The excitement I felt has been completely replaced by complete disappointment and the sense that I have been ripped off on purpose.

MyHeritage offers an assembly of free and paid subscriptions that will fit your research and budget. This includes a free basic membership and a free downloadable Family Tree Builder program. Testing your DNA with MyHeritage provides you with two types of results that do not require an additional membership. These research tools are:

An Ethnicity Estimate - a comprehensive breakdown of your unique DNA composition. You will discover where your heritage originated from and how much each ethnicity is part of your ancestral origins, and even view the main life events of your direct ancestors on the Ethnicity map.

DNA Matches - This technology compares data from autosomal DNA tests results and family trees to identify matches between users that share genetic sequences and indicate a family relationship.

That being said, some features require a paid membership to ensure the development and upkeep of our research tools. We have several additional memberships that vary in price to accommodate one's research needs and budget. Some of our members prefer to only pay for some features as they don't really use the entire array of tools we offer. This is why we offer separate subscriptions along with a full complete one and a free trial for our data subscription.

Because of an error that I made, I did not receive any results from MyHeritage. I contacted them and got a reply and the problem solved immediately. Even though this was cause my my fault, and I was less than nice in my email to them, they were gracious and professional. Problems was solved by one of the nicest customer services persons I've have ever worked with. I gauge every purchase on customer service so MyHeritage would get 6 stars, if I could.
Outstanding job MyHeritage. Keep up the good work

Hugely disappointed in lack of response and professionalism. Ordered DNA test in December, 2016 and have gotten nothing. My account page shows promised results expected between Feb. 20 and March 6, and I still do not have any information. Repeated emails result in empty promises to "look into it." Still no response or results. What a disappointment. Don't even go there.

I do not remember seeing anything about charges after the 14 day trial. And now I am charged on my Visa 75.00 U.S. Do you know how that translates into Canadian $.? This whole routine is nothing but a rip off, under the Free Trial I looked up one name, have not looked at the site again and don't intend to. I would like a refund to my account. When I saw their email to me stating the charges I could not even remember who my heritage was. Please, I am an OAP and cannot afford this kind of charge.

I discovered MyHeritage and signed up for a two week trial. I mistakenly remembered this as a 4 week trial and so found myself billed for a year at a particular time of not intending that, and more importantly in a financial situation where I could not afford the fee. I relayed this to MyHeritage Support who immediately were decent enough to reverse the charge. I was very impressed because it leaves one with a good feeling about a service which t I feel at another time, I will subscribe to. When you start doing family tree work its good to know the Services you can rely on, and MyHeritage is one of those. Mary B

Was gifted money to buy dna kit for my Xmas at the discounted price of £58. It's now cost me £212. I'm a single parent, mature student. I needed that money desperately to get a food shop, to see myself and my son through Xmas. 3 separate amounts taken. Had to email last week to see if they even had the kit back at the lab, as heard nothing from November, they said they do now have it, it will take a further 3-5 weeks now. No email to say free trial ending, just one to say it's ended. Tried to cancel straight away, but it says subscription has been stopped and will now end 2020, so they took £112.80. There's a further amount that's been taken for £41.55, which I don't know what that is. A £58 gift has now ruined myself and my sons Xmas, leaving us with nothing. I'm so angry, but absolutely devastated, as I don't know what we're going to do now

When signing up for the free trial you have received a confirmation email, that also included the information that you automatically will be charged after the trial period ends. A free trial can be canceled at any time from your account online or by contacting us. However, we are a refund friendly company which is why we state that if you are unhappy with your subscription, you may request a refund within 30 days of purchase.

In regards to your DNA Kit, you mentioned that the samples are currently at the laboratory. The standard processing time for samples once they are received is 4-6 weeks. An automatic email is always sent to our users to confirm that we have received the samples at the laboratory and an additional to confirm that the processing of the samples has started.

Please send me an email as soon as possible via kayleigh.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may investigate this report in more detail and process a refund for the additional charges.

Have been in hospital after emergency operation. Missed the cut off for cancelling 14 day subscription. Have sent 4 emails asking for refund to the *******@myheritage email and have not had a response. My bank are investigating this as fraudulent behaviour as it says in my heritage's t&c's that they will refund within 30 days. Disgusting behaviour when you can't be bothered to reply!

I initially started w/ a $99 plan over five years ago. In January I was billed $299 for their most expensive plan. Going into my account, there is no way to reduce your plan or select a new plan. They automatically renew you into their highest plan w/o any discussion or notice. This is one of the worst tactics on how to make more profit. I am disputing my claim and hope to change services. Buyer beware... you will be taken advantage of in your billing.

The only complaint I have is: you say support is there 24/7! NOT! Tried to call several times and was informed they were closed. False advertising?

I was pleased to see my overall results. However, with every tease of 'new results' or even in order to see my original ones, I can get no access. I am not able to get link to change password (won't accept original one) to function. Cannot get humans on phone. Have tried repeatedly over several weeks. If a human would simply contact me, perhaps we could clear this up. As it stands, however, after initial enthusiasm, I am very, very disappointed.

I wish I had read the reviews before sending my DNA sample to MyHeritage. I just received my results and they could not be more far off or more cursory. Three blobs on a map with percentages, but no explanation or detail whatsoever. I have 250 years of documented Hungarian ancestry, with many close relatives still living there. My results? 0% Hungarian, 0% East European. 100% bogus!

Your feedback is important to us as we are continuously working on our algorithms and after the initial launch of the Ethnicity Estimate Beta, we have documented all feedback from our users to improve and refine our current model.

We are still in the process of data analysis and we are still receiving and analyzing DNA samples for the MyHeritage Founder Population project. Once we will have analyzed most of the DNA samples for the different ethnicities, we will gradually add many more supported ethnicities in the MyHeritage Ethnicity Estimate. So, in other words, as the nature of DNA research grows, so will more precise ethnicity results widen in our new model for all of the various DNA strands found all over the world.

You will be assured to know that our research tools such as Smart matching and Instant Discoveries are now integrated with ones DNA results and have already been proven to be a very dynamic tool to research family history. This includes “ancestral surname” research and “DNA matching”.

I would like to ensure that your raw DNA is re-processed when our new updated model is ready in the very near future, so that your Ethnicity Estimate will be more refined. I have had a tree here (3 people) for several years. I decided to try to actually use it. Found site very challenging to use - not really user friendly. I tried to add a second part of family and could enter my name - but the rest I was not able to see what they wanted... boxes were invisible, and type is very light grey on white... impossible for me, as a visually challenged person to read. The tree I do have is also too large to fit on my screen, but no one has been able to make it any smaller, and type is already very small. I called thinking being a subscriber might give me more insight into using their product (I use another company's product & DNA, with none of these problems)... no person, instead I was told I was 6th in line and instructed to leave message after tone - no tone, repeat of instructions - no tone, then music. This was in sales - If they make it this hard to get to a sales rep - what happens when you need customer service? I know from other people that they have a lot of good, sometimes hard to come by, information, possibly more from the British Isles than any other company - that's why I am / was interested in using their services.

Tip for consumers:
very poor for visually challenged people ... very wide page, very small font and very light colour on a light/white background - site not easy to use - and yet I use (or have used) other site(s) without instructions, without any problems. I have not had this difficult a time understanding and / or using any program, web or home computer based, over the past years (70's-80's to now) since home computers happened!

My Heritage Family Tree Builder has provided a means for me to ‘grow' my family tree over the last 6 years in a way I could never have imagined possible. The facility offered for searching and smart matching with other members is outstanding and very user friendly so it is an amazing way of sharing information. The data base also continues to increase on a regular basis as more records become available. On the few occasions that I have had a problem, usually of my own making, the support team have responded within 24 hours with an answer to help me out and I have freely encouraged friends and family to join as well.

Today I've got a happy e-mail that stated that they charged me 190 eur for annual subscription. Wow. Congratulations on easy money! When I ordered DNA kit They offered one month trail access to their database. I believe, the period will start after they provide the results (what´s the point to have an access without knowing what you are looking for?). Within 4 weeks they were not able to provide DNA results, but were happy to charge for annual (!) subscription. Honest business would send a letter couple days before the end of free trail, asking if I like the service and if I would like to continue using it, but these guy seem to be happy having easy money giving nothing instead.
For me it´s a big red flag that this business is not reliable. They just want easy money and don´t care about the reputation. So now I can enjoy for one year the service I don´t need, sharing my experience with my friends and colleges. You´ve got my 190 eur, but you lost your reputation.

Updated 25/06/2023:
After posted this comment, I was contacted by My Heritage. They offer me a full refund (or discount), which I've got pretty fast, literally within hours after I said yes, I want a refund.
And another thing worth to mention: The next day they withdrew money for the subscription, I've got a result for my DNA test.
So no conclusions, facts only

Had a nice chat with Kelly (my heritage rep). Helped me navigate the web site with confidence. Although we tried several times to complete an upgrade using a code provided by My Heritage, we were unsuccessful through no fault of Kelly's. Disappointed. Will have to wait until I receive an email from the company for further help.

I really enjoy building my family tree and making discoveries. I just hate having to pay extra for every different method of record searching but them the brakes. It is a great site. I spend a lot of time on here working out my history.
