I am a community activist and human rights advocate who does ongoing work both locally and internationally. Because I am in the process of facilitating several new projects I thought I would connect with a few additional social networks. Somehow I an across the NEXT DOOR group and signed up. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS. Giving my name and contact information was not enough, I was asked for proof of my name and thus asked to provide a government ID and if I did not my account wold be blocked. I explained that I am a artist, writer, and independent journalist and would prefer to just use only a part of my name which is how I am addressed and reorganized in the broadcasting and entertainment world. My name is also an African name ( Khemetic and Shona) and often mispronounced so again to just use a potion of it has proven to work best. I explained all of this to the NEXT DOOR person/administrator that I had been communicating with but he made it very clear that I had to follow the procedure he had indicated. I asked if this was something that was dome with others and he responded that it was the policy. Needless to say, I tld NEXT DOOR, no thank you and to take me off of their listing.
I have never heard of anything like this in all the years I have been involved with social networking and community organizing.and certainly would not encourage or suggest that anyone put up with nonsense such as this
The final analysis for me is that THIS "NEXT DOOR" STUFF SOUNDS LIKE/SEEMS LIKE DISCRIMINATION TO ME
EPC
Terrible censorship in Racine, WI Over coronavirus postings. No statement even offered from the company. Posts removed. DELETE
App is garbage. Admin controls and "hides" ANY comments they don't like. They are FAR left. GARBAGE!
Nothing should REQUIRE me to provide my contact / address book access in order to join.
This is not for me.
Majority of the leads here in Cupertino CA. Have regularly abused their powers of being a lead... Shamelessy promoting their own agendas and deleting and banning anyone who speaks out not in agreeance with their views.
Leads have allowed profiles proven to be fake to flourish.
Just recently some leads tried to solocit 75K in donations towards their own appeal trial since two superior court judges ruled against the iniative they authored and shamelessly promote non stop.
Leads have modified neighborhood boundaries to fit their own agenda.
Nextdoor support is a joke and has ignored multiple complaints by members including myself and just recently my account was terminated after sending an email to nd support asking why this behavior is allowed to continue unchecked.
An employee by the name of Bobak has never replied to any of the compliants sent to him.
I have 450+ screenshots compiled to support my allegations and will be delivering my dossier to multiple media outlets.
FYI... Nextdoor is a front for data collection of real estate under the guise of being a helpful tool to our communities.
I also have created a survey to allow others to share their experiences... Please share so I can include in my report.

I have had nothing but bad luck with this app I would NEVER RECOMMEND IT TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR BUSINESS! They sell or give away your info
Don't EVER let them have your real email address or you WILL regret it! I cannot unsubscribe from them no matter how I try.
Censorship on my personal choice of not having a vaccine i am blocked from saying why i chose this?
Nextdoor should be a really cool, and nifty app for all neighborhood news and bulletin board stuff, however it is far from that and at this point without some serious revamping, is not going to last.
In my own group there is 1 single person who sees herself as the "sheriff" of all. She is bossy, loud mouthed, and the worst offender of any community standard in our group... however she was a founding sponsor of our nextdoor group...
And that means reporting anything to admin goes to her. This is especially serious because most of the complaints to admin INVOLVE HER. In turn she begins a campaign against the complainers. Basically this 1 person has all control.
OK MAYBE, Ive just happen to be in one bad group. That happens... however the overall feedback seems to agree with my report.
A few things Nextdoor gets really stupid about: soap boxing.
I agree with that however what exactly soapboxing is tends to be this very wide swinging door that is totally open for some and totally closed for others.
I saw a guy have his post removed on that grounds when he simply posted a bulletin regarding a VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE and cook out. How that was soap boxing I will never know.
One feature that ALL social sites have except nextdoor is a BLOCKING ONE. You should simply be able to block an offending person from seeing you and/or your post items and have that work visa versa. Why this app is so far all others in this area is beyond me.
Another thing they can be really goofy about is local repair people in your neighborhood. I thought that was what this site was for, so you could actually KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS and what they did. Why would you hire some one from MILES away when the guy 5 doors down does that? Hiring from inside your neighborhood keep that neighborhood stable. However I have seen all sorts of nonsense when it comes to that.
Lets be clear, I WANT TO LIKE NEXTDOOR. I have tried to like nextdoor, and as we speak am still trying to like nextdoor. However I just cant quite seem to get there for all the nonsense that no authoritative person wants to address with this app.
IT COULD REALLY WORK, BUT IT NEEDS HELP. Lots of help at this point.
All the other reviews are spot on I have been a member for only 2 days when the discussion of drug use in Irvine, California start getting crazy.
I live in Stonegate Village majority are Asians I didn't have an idea how many racist neighbors I have in my neighborhood untile I read their posts. One neighbor said drug users typically aren't Asians so I responded to him asking him not say stupid things like that since drug abouse doesn't matter if your Asain or not. Other post said black people are number one drug users followed by multi racial, white,. Then the lowest users are Asians with only 3%! I called him right on the spot and asked him to be respectful for other races and nationalities and show accurat data. For the love of god why they think posting drug abuse data is so important than trying to solve the drug problem itself? What's the point of Saying typically Asians aren't drug users? Stupid people say stupid thinks.
They went after me and reported me trying to block me out for calling them racists and rude.
The next day I received an email from Nextdoor asking me to post my real name saying some of the neighbors couldnt verify your address because I didn't use my real name I told them that's why I didn't use my real name I don't want one of these short circuits, racist neighbors to show up at my door step.
I totally agree with other reviews who gave 1 star I had exactly
Same experiences within only 2 days. I ask Nextdoor to send me a confirmation email that all my personal info will be deleted immediately and opt me out.
All what I got from them is a headache and stress it's basically a platform for racism that's all.
ZERO STAR
I joined nextdoor a year or two ago. I enjoyed it but noticed they really don't want any comments that challenge the aggressive agenda if those who seek to take away private property rights or promote special interest group agendas. Recently I was suddenly locked out of this group. It is good to read all the posts of this site to see that I am not alone. In my case I noted that people were suspecting/commenting that the local city council of Rancho Cordova was on the take and being influenced by RV storage lots. One of the leads placed a feed on nextdoor showing why she and the city council were opposed to people storing RV's, boats, etc. on their driveways. I responded to the lead and challenged the 12 pictures she was using. She failed to note in her post that she was merely posting photos promoting an RV storage lot business. That business had gone around the country looking for their best examples of ugly old RVs on driveways for their collage. The lead failed to note that these were not pictures in our local community and irrelevant. She also failed to note that it was merely the collage that had been made (with three advertising photos of their storage lot) to try to persuade the local city council to ban RV storage on driveways and force these to be stored in their for profit storage businesses! The lead did not respond to my challenge of her biased post in favor of a storage business. She instead immediately kicked me out of the NEXTDOOR forum. I have written to NEXTDOOR complaining but this does no good. It appears that NEXTDOOR is in cahoots with tyrannical government leaders who are selling out their constituents in exchange for either money under the table or campaign financing. Thank you for your other comments that show I am not alone in being very dissappointed with NEXTDOOR. GOOD NEWS: as a result of complaining I have been fully restored to NEXTDOOR and the lead who kicked me out has instead been kicked out of NEXTDOOR! So I am very impressed and pleased with NEXTDOOR! They strive to be fair when problems are raised to the level of those in charge. Petty tyrants cannot rule with impunity if challenged! Thank you NEXTDOOR. I love this site and all the great information and business sources provided!
Nextdoor has good things but also things that need to be worked on.
You can find neighborhood services or handymen, discover what's going on in the neighborhood, find the latest news or gossip, or even a restaurant that might interest you.
However you can also be blocked, removed from the website, or if the neighborhood lead has their personal agenda, they can block you or remove your posting.
A number of neighbors have complained because they have seen leads remove stories that the lead doesn't agree with.
For example, some neighbor recently complained about that online. Nextdoor can and has removed posts criticizing its policies.
For example, I had posted some time back that there were some irregularities with neighborhood security. My post was removed without any kind of explanation, even though a number of neighbors appreciated hearing what I had to say. Nextdoor would say something like, "well you were just ranting. That goes against our community guidelines." So what that means, in my opinion, is that Nextdoor can practice extreme forms of censorship, meanwhile hiding behind the excuse of "upholding Community guidelines."
Also, at times Nextdoor seems extremely politically-correct, almost to the point of disgust.
Nextdoor has these neighborhood guidelines. Whoever wrote the guidelines seems like they might be a fundamentalist Democrat. Most of the supposed offences would seem like they would be not allowed against groups or individuals that would be aligned with the left wing of the Democratic Party. I don't completely disagree with that, but it just seemed so politically correct all most way beyond what may be considered normal. I commend them for standing up against racism, as well as some other things such as neighborhood bullying. But in fact Nextdoor sometimes seems to become the neighborhood bully when they block perfectly fine posts that they happen to disagree with. Or they block neighbors from communicating, by posting a message similar to, "trouble connecting with Nextdoor, try again later." That is just their way of blocking neighbors they disagree with. A neighbor might think they have trouble with the internet, but it might actually be that they're being blocked by Nextdoor.
On a positive note, Nextdoor does have some strengths. They seem genuinely interested in protecting minorities from racism. They want to hinder libel and slander, that is commendable. In addition, neighbors are able to find out about household repair services, neighborhood fun events and happenings, as well as the latest crimes or important neighborhood information.
A couple years ago I downsized to a new neighborhood, one that is a combination of young families and older/retired folks -- mostly the later. My wife and I quickly found that most people in the neighborhood were interested in things that would help them get to know each other better. We did two things: a) occasional impromptu "drop-in" get-togethers on Friday afternoons and b) a Nextdoor "neighborhood" for the properties in our HOA. For many in the 'hood I had to assure them that Nextdoor wasn't some social media scam and that the only people who would see postings would be "us". My coaxing worked and soon I had a good percentage of the neighborhood signed up. Our neighborhood is in a more rural area, though, with many houses nearby that aren't technically in the neighborhood -- some of which are occupied by people that are known and considered neighbors. On several occasions I asked to have one of these properties added to our Nextdoor "neighborhood" and each time there were serious problems. Nextdoor defines a "neighborhood" as a collection of nearby properties. When a property is added to a "neighborhood" this act automatically also includes any other properties that are sufficiently nearby (on the same street, for example). This is a purely technical definition that ignores the social aspects of a neighborhood as being a collection of neighbors. The folks at Nextdoor refuse in practice to acknowledge this in any way and insist on including properties in "neighborhoods" that are effectively unrelated to the neighborhood and with occupants that are completely unknown. For those who might be skeptical of social media already this is a deal breaker. They don't trust the site and won't use it. Sad, because Nextdoor had such promise otherwise.
A "Gang of Five" (dubbed by some neighbors) was posting to stir up trouble in our neighborhood. They want to turn our neighborhood into a hotel by getting the HOA to allow short term rentals. We had a vote two years ago, and the majority of the homeowners voted to ban short term rentals. When the Gang of Five tried to take over the board to push their agenda, they were using NextDoor to spread lies, i. E. things like you will be fined for having your family visit. This is incorrect since your family does not sign a short term lease. This is just one lie they were spreading; there are countless others.
When the neighbors realized we were being lied to by this gang, we started posting the correct information and countering their lies. I did not call anyone names or was belligerent in any way. I simply stated facts as per the legal CC&R's as well as the court transcripts from a settled case (settled against the short term rental landlords). I also encouraged the candidates to state their views on the short term rental subject and asked several candidates who were actively violating the regulations to explain their behavior.
I now can't login. When I submitted a ticket, they said it would be addressed in 24 hours. It has been 2 weeks. No communication what-so-ever from NextDoor. Now I wonder if I was banned. Did they take the liars side over the honest neighbors who abide by the regulations?
NextDoor is despicable. Heaven help you if you actually try to defend your neighborhood against criminals and thieves who are violating the legal regulations. Us honest neighbors don't stand a chance.
Perhaps it was also because I alerted the neighborhood to a contractor that took our money and did not do the job? Maybe the contractor complained about me? Another example of NextDoor taking the side of criminals.
I see that other people expressing opinions are also banned. This app is actually being used by criminals to push their agenda. If honest people speak up to warn their neighbors, they get banned. Be weary. LOTS of criminals using NextDoor. Lots of dishonest people pushing their agenda. If someone speaks up against them, all the criminal has to do is report them, and the honest person is banned. I can sense a lawsuit coming. NextDoor is actively promoting crime.
I'm able to get information at the touch of the keyboard on almost any topic. A great resource!
Nextdoor King blocked me because I posted an individual, Trevor MacDonald, was "Dangerous and Mental" Well, he is.
Trevor MacDonald is a Homeless (thought Nextdoor was supposed to check addresses) individual who has set several fires in Portland, who believes he is God, who is Anti-Government, parrots other people's experiences and then argues, etc. BUT YOUR Administrators blocked ME?
I will never use Nextdoor again and I intend to post more than 1 review, as YOUR Administrators were notified accordingly. The VERY minimum, I would like a SINCERE apology. The most Important is that NextDoor does NOT respect the Safety of their neighborhoods, and should probably be discontinued or have FCC oversight.

Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
