I do not believe that the site is even monitored properly. Instead of bringing neighbors and communities together, this website actually creates an open forum that contributes greatly to any existing chaos. I had hoped to obrain useful and reliable information from the local government departments as well as from the community association... but, it has become a forum for selling items and gossiping causing tension among peole. Living in a very violent and vindictive city where harassment and retaliation is real, this may not be the website to bring people together. I am quiet in the community and I am not into foolishness. Nextdoor or someone associated with the website sent letters to residents that included MY NAME (making it appear as though it was from me). This letter directed the receiver to the website and encouraged them to join. THIS WAS DONE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR PERMISSION... Thank goodness for a good neighbor that brought the letter to my attention. I attempted to contact the website and there was no phone number available. Everything had to be done by computer. I guess the reason seems obvious... I unsubscribed and deactivated my account. I also requested that they remove my name as I want absolutely NOTHING to do with this website.
This website is beyond creepy and I recommend thinking twice before joining and definitely doing your research. I cant help but to believe that the creators of this site like drama and "Reality" topics dealing with crime and violence... This website has created issues for me by sending out those letters. That WILL be addressed properly... I would ai dont know many folks in my community. I would add photos of the letter and envelope sent to neighbors but, it would be inappropriate at this time. If I had a neighbor like "Nextdoor", I would put up the highest privacy fence available and treat them like a nutcase.
It's a way for companies to get your personal information so they can try to sell you their goods/services. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS TRAP!
My account was disabled due to posting an article regarding health insurance and unavailability of tests for Coronavirus asking neighbors to contact our Governor Doug Ducey and ask him to get aide to our region in the SW part of State, ie., testing, and to approve payment for testing and treatment which Arizona currently won't pay due to refusal to abide current law under ACA. Here's what they sent me: A message you posted was reported and removed for violating Nextdoor's Community Guideline: Be Helpful, not Hurtful. If you have concerns about why your content was reported or removed, do not post about it in the main newsfeed. Here's what you can do: Review the Community Guidelines Contact your Leads Read more about best practices for posting on Nextdoor in our Help Center. Here is the message that was reported: "California v. Texas"
This message shows proof that our state attorney general is fighting to repeal the ACA and refusing to allow state insurance under Medicare, Medicaid and Employer policy's for Arizona residents to cover any Coronavirus related issues. My Republican neighbors complained giving no reason other than they didn't think I was qualified to post it. It's not actually in violation of any policy. The decision was made by four Fox News, Fake News, Trump Advocates who frequently post right wing bias media videos, cartoons, and links. I uploaded my two posts they deleted, and the responses from two republican leads who blocked my access to my own account preventing me from deleting my account, while allowing other members to attack and bully me with posts and private emails. I will post samples of the lead posting and engaging and thanking their right wing propaganda posts.
I love Nextdoor.com. It is a valuable resource. I have found many businesses and friends on there.
This is the worst social media site that ever exist! Do not waste your time. You will be constantly bullied and trolled by others but when you will tell them to stop ( all I said that "I am tired of your constant comments to me and LEAVE ME ALONE") the Nexdoor will disable your account! It is almost impossible to post anything except lost/found pet and make a normal discussions. I found petition on change.org about ban of consumer fireworks ( one of almost 900 petitions about same topic) and just shared link on nextdoor for those who wish to sign it too. Trolls start commenting it with negativity and criticizing me nonstop and without any sense, because they feel boring. They called me a lier and even I showed them proof of toxicity of Chinese fireworks they still did not read it but kept trolling and even told me to leave the city then state and even country! I reported it many times but nothing change. I did not force anyone to sign the petition and I mentioned many times that it absolutely voluntary. Trolls have no any ideas but only intent to made others down and tell them that others ideas or posts or comments are bad. Even if you will report troll they still will continue to do it because they acting in a "polite" passive aggressive manner! But actually nothing is polite to say to your neighbor leave the city/state/country! I am a United States citizen and I can decide for myself where I want to live. They start calling themselves as they are patriots but not me, only because I can see the impact of chinese firewoks on our ecology and just do not want to support billion worth China business who put all world in lockdown but they never stop their own businesses. Nextdoor does not allow you to share your thoughts or ideas without be constantly bullied and trolled. I want to decide with what kind of people I want to talk. After they blocked my account for 4 days with no reason I decided just delete my account from that terrible, useless and harmful for mental health website. Deactivating and deleting completely my account from this trash site made my life better.
NextDoor allows posting of employment by members that violates EOC laws despite my complaint to them.
A venue for neighborhood bullies to excel and the ignorant to join in on the festivities. NEXTDOOR IS POLITICALLY BIASED AGAINST ANYONE CONSERVATIVE.
I love checking what is going on in the neighborhood. Great way to keep in touch.
Most people who are on nextdoor.com are just talk and no walk. They praise and appreciate your work all day long and when it comes to action they sulk and back off.
My account has been disabled because I picked up trash in the neighborhood and posted pictures of the trash I found. My neighbors on nextdoor got bothered by this and mostly by the fact that I asked them to come help me, at least bring a big bag. Nobody came to help. I called them lazy and indifferent and someone flagged my posting.
On this site, everybody has to sound the same. If you tell the truth or do more than just talk, your account will be disabled. They don't even warn you. They disable your account then they tell you.
On nextdoor.com, there are people who collect your information. Please do not give out any personal info, if you decide to be on this site. You will never know the intents of people asking for personal info. One lady asked for my phone number saying she will come help me that day with the garbage. I thought she will come help so I gave her my number. She never came and never called me. I am wondering why she wanted my phone number and what her intentions are now that she has it.
Nextdoor.com is a site good for classifieds and lost and found pets but there was no need to make a site for that. There are so many sites for classifieds and lost animals. Nextdoor is not as it claims to be about neighbors and helping each other and together etc.
There is no neighborhood feeling on this site but there is censorship! You are not free to say what you think. It doesn't matter that you did not use bad words or you did not insult anybody, if your opinion is different or you take action (cleaning the neighborhood in this case), or both, your account will be disabled.
Nextdoor.com doesn't care about environment and wildlife hurt by trash. There was a deer with a plastic dome lid stuck in her mouth. I removed the plastic lid from her mouth and some people on Nextdoor sent "thank you" words but none came out in the street when I invited them to pick up trash to prevent this tragedy from happening again. They did not even bring me a big bag to collect the garbage I found.
As a thank you note for helping that deer and cleaning the neighborhood, my account has been disabled yesterday, September 25.
For more details, I will upload pictures with all the garbage I picked up in my neighborhood (Burbank, CA) and with the deer with the plastic lid stuck in her mouth. The story about the deer has been on NBC. The media channel came to interview me on August 9 and it has been aired at midnight that night. Anyway I will paste the link with all the pictures and videos here soon.
Absolutely disgusting gangstalking app that assists Karens and other busy bodies spy on, stalk, harass, slander, ridicule, bully, shame, and ultimately destroy neighbors they don't even know. Secretly of course – just like the Stasi of East Germany, the Gestapo of Nazi Germany, the KKK, etc... reading over these reviews it seems many of you have allowed yourselves to become distracted by the Right vs. Left narrative. Yes, this company was founded by some San Fran cisco leftists, but they really don't care. If you move a lot, you will find that both the fascists on the right and the commies on the left are using this app to try and take over neighborhoods and drive the people they don't like out (or better yet, haver them secretly 'dissapeared'). Have things really gotten to this point in the good ol' US of A? Sadly yes, and the argument could be made that things have always been this way, if you take into account the great American tradition of extra-legal judiciary measures (that word that you're not allowed to mention if you want your review posted. Hint: It involves rope and a tree) Its not even a question IF its happening, just a question of HOW MANY victims there have been at this point, and how many of those were innocent.
But this app is just a tool, a weapon if you will, and weapons don't have agency of their own. Whatever prevailing doctrine in whatever particular town, rest assured this app will be weaponized against anyone who not only dare opposes, but also anyone even suspected of not being completely on-board with the programming. The biggest clown world punchline of this all is that the Nextdoor Corporation likes to promote itself as a great way to foster neighborliness and build 'nice' communities, when we all know that in the real world its being used to engender hatred, discord, and negativity. Those who use this app to try and gain 100% control over their environment are the ones who should be ashamed, and maybe should try reading the US Constitution (for once). All few remaining sensible and freedom loving Americans be aware, and maybe we should band together to try and have this company taken down. Class action lawsuits are being organized, but it may already be too late for America.
I love Nextdoor. It's great for neighbor notifications, referrals, posting events & items for sale.
Their Terms Of Service support anarchist groups and suppress Pro Police organizations like Blue Lives Matter! #SOCIALIST!
LEAVE NEXTDOOR NOW!
I find it ironic that Nextdoor demands to invade users privacy but hides behind fake customer service people. As long as a person is not violating the codes of conduct it shouldn't matter what the $#*! they call themselves. Single woman and people who have been harassed by stalkers or an ex have the right o protect their privacy. Much like FB and other SM sites that use bots to go after people for minor to no infractions but yet continue to allow people who grossly violate codes of decency to run rampant. Their fake bull$#*! customer service - which I'm not sure has any human attached to it and if so it's just to send form email responses - has the nerve to demand full disclosure of all your information. It's pretty disgusting. Many women use ND for safety and crime notices. They don't give a flying $#*! about your stupid lost pets- that seem to set off alerts every 1hour at all hours of the night and day. I'm guessing it won't be until numerous people are harassed and/or injured/kidnapped that ND will pull its head out of its $#*!.
They have zero concern for the safety of users. Claiming neighbors need ur name is bs. ND has ur contact info on the back end (and trust me they abuse the crap outta it. Read the fine print that they hide about what info ur giving them access to and what they can do with it). And when there really does need to be an intervention neighbors having ur name does nothing and ND provides zero support. It's wildly irresponsible.
ND needs to take some responsibly and provide human being customer service and actually BE INVOLVED with THEIR community! They're valued at over a billion but they make zero revenue. Hmmmm. I wonder how... selling ur info?
(And for developers out there - someone just make an emergency, amber alert style app already for lost pets and let pet owners be alerted at 11am and 2am and 5am cause fluffy got out for the 10th time.)
And it happened on someone else's thread about a wanting to raise chickens and had my name in the response in a message loaded with exclamation points saying something akin to "learn to follow the rules or MOVE OUT!". I had absolutely never broken any such rules and then proceeded to call me "special" when I asked her to stop her defamatory complaining.
For defending myself against such defamation, I was accused of "ranting", which ND defines as:
"and usually includes a combination of the following: ALL CAPS, excessive
Punctuation, provocative language, judgmental accusations, or
Repetitive explanations."
I had used absolute no caps or excessive punctuation who would consider, say, "please move on", one of the quotes they labelled from me as "ranting", which I had used to mean "please stop attacking me and get back on the thread topic", provocative language or a judgemental accusation?
https://help.nextdoor.com/s/article/dont-use-nextdoor-as-a-soapbox?language=en_US
And the person who launched the initial attack? According to my partner, who doesn't have a suspended account, she is still there, not suspended, with no repercussions.
Lesson learned, next time I won't respond to defamation, I'll just report.
But now I can't even report my side of the story or get quotes from her defamation of myself because my account is suspended.
Now my ability to get anything accomplished on the conversation on lobbying for the new residential chicken law or farming eggs for my community, between likely neighborhood loss of trust from the false accusation and the suspension knocking me off the thread, has been greatly diminished.
For anyone who reads this, do you think Nextdoor's behavior in favoring my attacker's behavior over mine seems more in direct violation of their own definition of their definition of personal attacks than mine of saying "please move on" is of ranting?
https://help.nextdoor.com/s/article/posting-examples-disagreements-and-conflict?language=en_US
Or do you believe the damage I've done to the community by saying such
Things outweighs the community benefits of myself as a solar farm owner and vegetable farmer also providing fresh eggs, just as the original poster had suggested?
Not quite sure how Nextdoor's attitude on me aligns with their mission to benefit communities. I feel I was essentially slammed for attempting to help and, at worst, pushing aside someone demanding I not be allowed to help.
I paid for an ad and then looked for it under a different name. It was no where to be found.
I'm a lead for Nextdoor who recently posted a comment asking people to be tolerant of other people's posts. I am seeing a lot people reporting posts because they simply don't agree with the opinion, not because it is violating any Nextdoor rules. In my community (which has a lot of older and retired people), it was extremely well received except for a couple of intolerant members who are known for picking fights and pushing buttons. I'm a moderate Democrat, as are most people in my county. But I, and most in my community, believe all our neighbors have the right to civilly express their opinion even if they are more Conservative, providing it follows the rules. I don't think censorship of people for vindictive reasons is conducive to building a supportive Nextdoor community.
I used an example of a recently reported and deleted post about how a member removed a homeless encampment on private property. It was factual, not inflammatory and included an informative video by a well known journalist who covers homelessness. This is allowed per the Nextdoor regulations. One of the members, known for instigating issues, asked what the video was. I should have known not to engage, but I linked the video unaware that Prager U is like kryptonite to extremists. This instigator became unhinged claiming I supported racism and the KKK. Excuse me?
I asked if he watched the video, which did not address or condone any of that. Nope. It was clearly a setup. We have had other interactions, and he has expressed a grudge against me as a Lead. So he reported me to Nextdoor for linking a video that he ASKED to see. Nextdoor Admin believed this unhinged person, did not actually look at the feed in question, and suspended my account. I have sent an email asking why I was being suspended because I called for tolerance. Based on the complaints I'm seeing, I don't believe they are professional or mature enough to answer the email.
Do I believe that Nextdoor Admin is being run by young people without the maturity to handle bullies, trolls and instigators? Yes, I do believe they are way over their heads in dealing with interpersonal conflicts. Based on the numerous complaints I'm seeing, they clearly don't have the objectivity or experience to effectively run this company.
What is the after effect? It is tearing neighbors and communities apart. What is, in concept, a great idea has become divisive and dysfunctional because of the immaturity and unprofessionalism of those running Nextdoor, IMHO.
The community in my city is dominated by advocates for the "homeless industrial complex." The trolls who work for them bully and mass-report dissenting viewpoints in order to silence all opposition. One of the volunteer reviewers/leads is under contract from the city to provide promotional material. She also represents a homelessness corporation at city council meetings. She and the trolls who work with her attack anyone who criticizes a city program and report and/or remove their posts.
The "moderation" done by Nextdoor itself is frequently even worse. You can post articles from the Journal of the American Medical Association which debunk anti-vaxx propaganda and be flagged for spreading misinformation. My account was suspended for 30 days because I posted a JAMA article which found that 75% of the reported adverse effects from the covid vaccines were due to the placebo effect. The replies you get from their customer services sound like they were composed by primitive bots, or people with no education. Nextdoor customer support pretends to listen but always responds by repeating the same nonsensical assertions, like "the... content could discourage other's [sic] from getting the vaccines." The reviewer quoted the Nextdoor guideline out of context. The full text is "False or misleading information that could prevent or discourage people from receiving COVID-19 testing, treatment or COVID-19 vaccines." The source was a refereed academic study, so there was no basis for calling its content false or misleading.
The article which I posted said that 75% of reported adverse covid vaccine effects were due to the placebo effect. This would normally be considered very strong evidence that vaccines are safe, but not to Nextdoor. The only way to avoid the possibility that ANYONE might be discouraged from getting a vaccine would be to lie and say that 100% of adverse effects are due to placebo. That's what it takes to conform on Nextdoor. You are expected to agree with the ruling clique's dogma, and to hell with the facts.
Nextdoor guidelines encourage users to provide references for claims they make, but it does not recognize the validity of even the most solid and respected sources. This hypocrisy is one of the reasons Nextdoor is a third-rate social media platform.
Do not sign up for this website! I wish I had not fallen for it. To begin with, they require that you share excessive personal information to get on there, which raised a red flag for me, but I signed on anyway for the crime alerts in my neighborhood. What I did not realize when I signed up is that they display your home on a map on your profile page (you can hide your actual address, but are required to use your real name, so you are easy to locate either way). They preset most of the settings for who can see your information (another red flag). No privacy choice there.
I was warned ahead of time that there were a lot of petty people nattering away on Nextdoor (that is true), but what I found on the site was far worse than pettiness. There are people on there who are just bat-shyte crazy. And they can find you. I made the mistake of getting involved in a couple discussions about local issues. I had to mute a couple people who kept trolling me, and I flagged several posts that contained abusive or profane language (some posts aimed at me, some at others). I don't know whether someone I reported flagged me back in retaliation, but out of the blue my account was suspended. When I went to the website a banner came up saying I was suspended and could sign in after 15 days. Suspended for what? There is no contact information provided. No one to ask. Just a link to a page of rules for the site, and something about being "kind." Huh? Who was not kind? I reported the bad behaviors of others. And I am being slapped on the wrist for that?
The 15-day thing is weird, too. It's like some weird kind of training program. Like an electric shock collar for dogs. Come back in 15 days and try again and see whether you can avoid getting shocked again? No thanks. Why would I want to?
And it gets even worse! Because of the suspension, I cannot sign in to delete my account. So it will sit there for 15 more days. Fully visible to all the crazies.
Now I am stuck wondering what Nextdoor sociopath has my address. I am genuinely freaked about it. I wish to God I had never signed on to this horrific website. They take zero responsibility for the safety of their users. They just want your information, like all social media. But they disguise their data mining operation behind thos fake neighborhood watch and block party facade. Don't buy it. It is a lie.
DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR INFORMATION! They will placed you in danger. I cannot emphasize that enough. THEY WILL PLACE YOU IN HARM'S WAY. I have purchased security cameras for my property because of this website. Huge mistake joining up.
I joined Nextdoor very early on at the urging of a local realtor. At the time, there was no official neighborhood set up for where I live, so I set it up. Now mind you, I live in a very, very small neighborhood in the Los Angeles "valley," about 24,000 people. It's maybe 4 or 5 square miles. After getting it all set up, I printed out door hangers and walked them around to hundreds of houses, sent postcards and talked it up to everyone I saw. People still didn't know what it was and really weren't joining very fast. I served as the only "lead" for a couple of years as no one else seemed to want to do it.
Then out of the blue, Nextdoor took over the neighborhood, and divided it up into 11 even smaller areas. Way to go, nothing like segregating an already small area. For awhile I was still the lead for all the neighborhoods, simply because no one else was doing it. Then slowly they started getting some other volunteers.
As the membership started to grow, more and more overly sensitive or hateful people started to join, along with some nice ones. But no one was allowed to have real opinions anymore. People started using the "report a post" option like a dislike button. If you said something they didn't like, bingo... it's reported. Then cliquish gangs of neighbors (with similar morals) started ganging up on others, including me, and they actually succeeded in getting me banned from the website.
After all the work I put in, they banned me! I had literally hundreds of people I had referred to join on my account... and it was all down the drain.
So awhile back I just started logging in on my partner's account and as of 3 days ago, they banned his account as well.
I can't tell you how many private emails I've gotten from people telling me how much they miss my presence there and how awful the website has become. We recently started a neighborhood choir and one night Nextdoor.com was mentioned and everyone just groaned. I was really glad to find this website and see that I'm not the only one who has been treated poorly by that website.
Now it's just a place where people can talk about lost dogs and cats and post things for sale. If you talk about anything important, it devolves into a hate match. And heaven forbid you mention anything political. People don't want to be bothered by anything as important as politics when they could be stroking each other over being upset about leaf blowers.
Oh, and I also got verification from the website management, that they retain the right to read everyone's private messages there.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
