Great website! Cool approach to the online dating world. Mostly clean well managed, Free! There are obviously things that could be improved, like server speed or conversation approaching style option expansion, but again it's free.
I came onto this site twice, each time paid the monthly fee and each time my preferences were totally ignored. I am specific about what I want so that I do not have to go through 100's of men's profiles to weed out the men who smoke or want children. I find this website did absolutely nothing for me. They say no particular pictures are allowed to be posted yet they are constantly posted and low quality people are here to choose from because no one is checking the sites for quality assurance. This is the worst site as far as low level for the price, is should always be free if the site isn't doing what it claims its doing for you.
Great site! Better than the ones you have to pay for. Found my guy and am very happy. I recommend this site to everyone!
If okcupid wants to be different: Let women post reviews of men on the site and their experiences. That will keep the men honest!
Within a week of using I had almost 400 likes, but was confused as to where all these guys were at because the same list of people kept popping up on my matches over and over even after swiping left on them. So what's the point of disliking someone only to have them reappear multiple times? When you've disliked the same string of people 4 times, that's a problem.
I hate that I didn't know who messages me until I kept going through random profiles to see on their photo "This person messaged you". I can either dislike them or go to their profile to see what they said. But this also means I could miss someone if they get lost in the shuffle.
I kept getting matched with guys that were only there for hookups/sex when I clearly marked I was interested in relationships. Matches that were super religious, though I marked atheism was very important to me. And matches that were outside my checked age range. If I check my range as 30-50 I'm not expecting 26 year old dudes to pop up in my matches!
They had plenty of profiles that weren't filled out, didn't have a photo of themselves, or profiles that seemed straight up fake. You are going to get that on every site. But my issue was trying to see when people last logged in, I mean, maybe I didn't care to browse enough but how do I know if profiles are even active any longer? I don't want to waste my time if someone hasn't logged in for months or years.
The last straw for me, which made me delete it was the guy that messaged me after we both liked each other saying "Did you look at my profile?" When I checked I see he is only on there to find women for oral s*x. Again, this is a poorly matching system. Ugh!
OkCupid shows off a 'questionable' graph with a 23%-34% reply rate on their own blog for men messaging women, depending on message length. You'll see for yourself, if you ever make the mistake of using it, that this is very unlikely. I have never heard of anybody, even the hottest guys, who regularly gets this reply rate on any dating site, and I've been using dating sites for many years. It is near *impossible* to get a reply out of any girl, let alone a conversation, as the vast majority have absolutely no intention of engaging in conversation unless you're a hunk with a six-pack. Personality counts for nothing, as does profile content or message quality, UNLESS you're a stud. Women who say they "want a nice guy" really mean "I want a male model who I have control over and who caters for my every need". These women are deluded enough to believe that such guys have any loyalty, which makes me laugh, as they reject almost all men who ARE loyal.
There's a reason OkCupid pulled the features that showed you how often people reply, and the visitors, and it wasn't because those features were useless, it's because OkCupid is. Almost every woman had the worst rating of 'Replies Selectively'. They think omitting these facts will make you believe the fault is with you rather than the site itself.
The site is rife with women claiming they want decent men, yet clearly are filtering for the hottest, most attractive men. As a guy, you *cannot* filter like this (you're lucky to ever get a reply) so it doesn't go both ways. OkCupid want you to believe the problem with your poor reply rate is your own messages/profile. It isn't. Profile reviews make no difference. The problem is with them, and their lack of, and picky, female members.
The site is practically worthless for men. Don't waste your time. If you do waste your time, come back and write about your experience - it will likely be the same. Don't review it until you've been on it for a while - you might be treated differently when you first join!
Also, watch out for reviews (on other sites), higher up the Google rankings, reviewed by *one* person of a clearly commercial website. And reviews of 5 stars written by people with only 1 review total.
Tip for consumers:
Profile content, personality, and message quality count for nothing regardless of what you have been told. You have to be a stud to get replies, and even if you are, you will get few.
So I'm divorced after 20 years of marriage and starting over and moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania, no friends, alone no man. So have to start somewhere, don't want to spend money on a fixed income when I don't know what will work. Match.com kept sending me men in Pennsylvania, not Arizona when I changed everything, they charge way too much up front the whole 6 months upfront. The auto Renew is a pain to cancel with many sites. So to the point, OK Cupid in Arizona, I think is great. I've met 4 men in two weeks, one I like very much. They are professionals, all have good careers except one. I'm 63years old female, semi retired, but really young looking, very athletic, from NY, NJ, PA and now Arizona for life. This site is easy to navigate, free to search matches, free to send and receive messages, where can you do that on the web? Keep in mind that your information is being exposed and pictures to the world, so be safe. But where can you meet men or women for free, message and replies. You may find some fake men or women scam artists, just understand it's free you get what you get for free. I never found that situation. Make sure to watch behind when I'm leaving a date, maybe purchase some protection, keep it on you, if there is something weird with the person. Just give your cell phone to people you feel you can trust. I decided to pay for 1 month cost me $15.95. I turned off the auto renew subscription, so that's for 1 month only. I asked them to tell me if I did this they actually replied back to me. Customer service is pretty good when emailing them, you might have to wait a little for an answer by email or email them again. They will help you upfront, reply back with answers for you. I would recommend this site for dating just really been great for me. I do not work for this company or web, this is a totally independent current review 2/11/2018.
Met someone on here who turned out to be a "NarcoPath" (both a narcissist and a psychopath) ended up meeting him in person and although it seemed we had a huge amount in common by the interests and questionnaire and through online chatting, I believe that it is too easy to lie/make things up and I have been in a violent abusive relationship ever since. Please be careful with online dating(or online friends as I was friends with him 4 years before meeting him), they need to do background checks on the people before allowing them onto the website. I think it would have made a major difference if I had known he had a DUI criminal record (substance abuse issue)(they should let you click something that removes all offenders). This person has literally made my life into a living hell including helped me be sex trafficked and date raped by another man and through his substance abuse issues and friends circle. I also think natal chart reading is a must and online dating should do astrology compatibility. He is a Aries Sun Sign Gemini Moon Sign and I am a Gemini/Taurus Cusp Sun Sign and a Cancer Moon sign. After research these signs are volatile Aries does not get along with Cancer(He belittles and breaks me as a fire sign and as I have a water sign I am literally boiled to death), this was a mistake that I live in regret of everyday for 6 years while he took everything from my family and refused to work or get off the streets or move out. The psychological abuse is not even of this world. I need strength and help to leave, he is literally a sadist.
Tip for consumers:
Please do background checks and allow users to click "no people with criminal background" Please do a mandatory natal reading to see compatibility.
I wrote a review for OKC a few years ago giving them 5 stars, I've downgraded them because they have changed their way of doing things. Now in order to send a message you first have to 'Like' the person. So even if you are only interested in finding out where they got that awesome motorcycle in their picture, or want to get the excellent recipe they said they have for risotto, you still have to like them first. Worse yet, now to get your messages you have to search for them in some sort of demented hide and seek. Your messages no longer show up in your mailbox, now you get a notification you have a message and you have to swipe through the Quick Matches in order to find the one with an icon that says 'they messaged you!'. On average it takes 20 swipes to find the new message. The purpose of this is obviously to get women to look at more profiles, but since I'm not looking at the profile, just looking for the icon (and getting more and more irritated) it's not really working the way they intended. So you've found the message, it's someone who has sent a polite message and you'd like to be polite back even though you have no interest for whatever reason. Sorry, there's a problem, before you can reply to them, you have to 'like' them back! This means that this poor person is going to get a 'like' notification and think it's all good, when really you are just turning them down gently. I like to be nice, I like to offer an explanation or just a 'No thank you' to people who send me a polite and thoughtful message, now I feel uncomfortable doing this as I don't want to 'like' someone I don't actually like. Even if I am interested and do sort of like their pic/profile/message, I still don't want to 'like' someone I don't know.
Long story short I still like the basic OKC set-up for profiles and how open you can be about who you are and what you want, but I hate the new messaging system. I've suspended my profile and might one day become active again if I hear they have stopped trying to make me look at, like, and message people I have no interest in just so they can say 'Women are really active on our site, they look at tons of profiles and 'like' lots of our male members!' in their promotional material.
I having nothing negative to say about the site itself, OK Cupid. However, my experience as an older male, with seemingly desirable traits, has been a slice of hell. I meet with more deceit on this site that I have in years of actual every day interaction.
My problem has not been one I often hear about from men, not receiving responses from ladies after sending a message. I have received responses. I even met 2 women. I was a gentleman, pleasant, just myself. This was to no avail. I thanked both of them for meeting for coffee and waited for their response. One did not respond at all. The other claimed that she thought she was ready to date but now has decided not to do so. On 3 other instances, the ladies responded. One just "breadcrumbed". I asked to meet her. She didn't ignore me but gave excuse, one after the other, so I just gave up. Another thanked me for being patient and responded to me with one sentence telling me she was busy and I deserved a complete writing from her when she isn't so busy, that was 3 weeks ago. Then another responded right away. She said she wanted time to really look over my profile. That was 10 days ago. Women like to claim that they only receive coarse messages from shallow men. I write pleasant messages that refer to something they mention in their profile. I am in great shape, financially & emotionally responsible. Yet on Cupid, I can't even get beyond deceit from 60 year old women. What is going on? I understand that the imbalance, the large amount of men on these sites results in women receiving lots of attention while men struggle. It has not been worth my time and effort. Every few days, I do receive a message from a homely lady asking all kinds of questions as if she is in such demand & if i do everything correctly, I may, I just might, stand a chance with her.
It's a horrible website that will suspend your account if you say the wrong thing. If you give criticism about the women on the website, mind you my opinions were specifically about how I felt that OKCupid caters to Caucasian women on the website, and mind you I'm a Caucasian man, if you say ANYTHING negative or in the ballpark of negative about women in general, especially Caucasian women, they will suspend your account. A friend of mine who used to be on OKCupid warned me to be very very careful about what you say in your profile or else they'll suspend your account, and that's exactly what happened to my account.
So be careful creating a profile, answering all their questions (which takes forever), because if they don't like what you put on your profile they will suspend you without warning. Another friend of mine was communicating with a woman on their site, everything was going great, then all of a sudden his account was suspended and he was like, what the heck? Come to find out they didn't like how something was worded in his profile.
It's a site that caters to Caucasian professional women. You should read what some of these women say in their profiles about men! It's amazing! It's a horrible website. Be careful. The amount of time you invest in their questions and profile, by the time you get comfortable, God forbid you say something which they deem inappropriate, because they'll suspend your account. And, when you email them to ask what's wrong what happened, they'll ignore your email. They're horrible!
I know friends of mine of color that have been on there that have had the same thing happen. I can only imagine one of their delicate Caucasian women probably complaining about the scary African American man and they suspended his account. They are HORRIBLE!
Really nice website that helped me to have the most fun dates in my life.
All the guys matched my taste and interests
If you are in Atlanta, send her a message. You won't be disappointed. In that respect, she is typical of the women you will meet on this site.
I have several complaints about this website.
1. I have a computer that lags, and I answered an educational question wrong by accidentally clicking the one above it. I explained my answer and said that I like educated women. By the time I realized the wrong answer had been selected, I had already answered the question, and OkCupid has a policy that you have to wait 24 hrs to re-answer. I then got verbally abused by a bunch of women saying that I was stupid, and that I only wanted an educated woman because I wanted people to think I was smart, and so on. I sent in a reports about some of the worst messages, and to this day (1 yr later), haven't heard anything back.
2. There's no point in joining, because if (and I say if because it seems most people just leave their profiles to collect dust and never contact anyone), someone likes you, you can't see who it is unless you pay to be A-list.
3. A lot of the questions don't have the option to choose the best answer for you. For example, there's a question "Do you like to ride motorcycles?" and the only answers available are yes or no. For me and some of my friends who also are on the site, it would depend on the motorcycle, but I just clicked yes. Then there A LOT of yes or no questions where you're willing to accept a yes or no from someone, and if you click both it's marked as irrelevant. Answer a certain number as a irrelevant and it keeps having a message pop us saying to stop marking questions as irrelevant or they lower your chances of finding a match. Problem is, with most questions, you're willing to accept multiple things, which would mark it as irrelevant.
This site just needs to re-think their overall working processes, and at least give you the option to see who likes you without having to pay. If you have to pay to see who is interested in you, it's not worth it and you should just go elsewhere.
Perusing the reviews here has been fascinating and entertaining. It seems most people either love OKCupid or hate it. My overall impression: reading the reviews with the same kind of discrimination you should use in reading on-line dating profiles will net you an overall positive impression of OKCupid. Fortunately, though, I don't even have to rely on that as I used OKCupid for about four years and have my own experience to go by. I found the site to be extremely user-friendly and I talked to many very nice and interesting people over time. I met several, dated a few and ultimately ended up in the relationship I expect to be my last. I think this is about all you could ask of a free on-line dating site. If this is not your experience I think you probably have unrealistic expectations and/ or you're just " doing it wrong." One complaint I've seen a lot of here that I'd like to address is that there are a lot of questions you "have to" answer. Well, no. There are no questions you have to answer; but since the matching algorithm is based on mutual answers, the more questions you answer the better your matches will be. The questions are submitted by other members and so can be repetitious, but again, you don't have to answer them all. If you think you've already answered the question, you can just move on. If you think the question is innappropriate or you just don't want to answer it, you don't have to. The questions range from thought-provoking and illuminating through just good fun to crass and/or useless. Pick and choose. I greatly enjoyed my experience with OKCupid and have recommended it to dozens of single friends. I also tried Match, Plenty of Fish, Senior People Meet and Spiritual Singles and OKC was far above any of them in my opinion.
Tip for consumers:
Answer lots of questions. It doesn't have to be done all in one sitting, just add to them as you have time. The more questions you answer the better the matching algorithm works. After answering several hundred questions, I found that I only needed to respond to people who were a 98 or 99% match. If you haven't answered many questions, though, that standard will get you nowhere.
Free online dating site :) Free hook ups! What more can you want. Better than plenty of fish. Not as good as match but it is FREE.
After 2 weeks the website advertisement settings will block you from messaging unless you agree to be trolled by targeted ads... uugghhh
So I've used the site/service off and on since probably 2015, maybe a bit longer. When I originally found it many of the services you now pay for you could use for free. Now they basically charge you for everything useful. I don't fault them for wanting to make money, but now it's just a shell of it's former self.
The moderators are monstrous hypocrites, it was my experience uploading pics that if I uploaded ANY pic other than face shots of myself they'd get deleted where as almost every woman I came across had pics of their cats, dogs etc up and those NEVER got deleted when reported, I'd actually favorited several profiles and check.
Next is the site is run by flaming liberals who will not tolerate any sort of free thinking. If you watch profiles most everyone who doesn't identify as "liberal" will put "other" because putting anything else will catch you a ban or shadow ban, if your account isn't outright banned you'll find yourself with no matches day in and day out.
My account was actually banned after 6 months of activity. As I said I've been using the service off and on for a number of years, use it for a few months then delete for lack of decent humans, fake profiles, gold diggers etc. I actually have met 3 women from the site and they were utter garbage humans, and chatted with many more that I caught in lie after lie, several made me think they were bots. Anyway after getting fed up with the crap and hypocrisy on womens profiles I put on my profile "Women's list of demands = preference, Men's list of demands = hate speech and misogyny." I was banned for that. I contacted okcupid because originally they didn't tell me why my account was banned. Email after email and all I got was an automated response that directed me to page saying my account violated their rules. I eventually got an email from a random yahoo email account from someone claiming they were a moderator for Okcupid and he or she explained they never tell anyone why they were banned and that I was banned for the above because one of the moderators is a flaming feminist and my comment literally hurt his feelings.
Terrible! Requires a subscription to everything! I searched a lot, and finally found the best site. Here it is https://clck.ru/32fMar
Make you fill out a whole profile with pic and then you can't see likes, messages or matches unless you buy a subscription
This is the absolute WORST website for dating imaginable. Totally setup for phishing and scamming. The profiles are made up of the worlds most uninteresting, desparate and ugly people. TOTAL TRASH.
Tip for consumers:
DON'T
This is a great dating site to find serious love partner. Most profiles are real people. Dated several there and married one too.
By far the worst on the market. Would ot recommend to anyone, save yourself the time and choose something else..
Okcupid used to be "Ok" before it changed its ways. It used to be that people could send anyone a message and they could send one back free of charge. It used to feature ads as their bread and butter. I guess back then it was a "startup" that used the "free" status as a come-on and then decided to slap a $15 monthly fee just to do what you used to do for free, which was freely message potential dates and see who actually "liked" you. Now, it's full of fake profiles and gold-digging scammers and forget about ever getting in touch with any potential matches, it's behind an exorbitant paywall with not guarantee that you'll get a mutual match. Oh, and you had better hold your tongue about your "preferences". If you prefer not to date single parents and mention this just to save yourself and other people time and just manage expectations, better not let the fascist "woke" admins hear - you'll immediately get the banhammer. It's ok to be trans, pansexual, trisexual, bisexual, asexual, demisexual or whatever - just never say what type of person you prefer NOT to date - that's just being "not inclusive" and therefore "evil" in their minds.
You. An be friends with some people for years and later realise they are not friends with you. This will make them feel detached
Well... I love the idea of the personal questions, and I love their design.
BUT - there are some creepy people there, so no 5 stars from me.
I've been joined but did not find the right one. I love pantyhose so after joined to pantyhosedating.co.uk
