Great website! Cool approach to the online dating world. Mostly clean well managed, Free! There are obviously things that could be improved, like server speed or conversation approaching style option expansion, but again it's free.
I came onto this site twice, each time paid the monthly fee and each time my preferences were totally ignored. I am specific about what I want so that I do not have to go through 100's of men's profiles to weed out the men who smoke or want children. I find this website did absolutely nothing for me. They say no particular pictures are allowed to be posted yet they are constantly posted and low quality people are here to choose from because no one is checking the sites for quality assurance. This is the worst site as far as low level for the price, is should always be free if the site isn't doing what it claims its doing for you.
I was a moderator once when OKC was usable, now I can confidently say that virtually all users of the site either come from 3rd world countries trying to scam western men or obtain their personal information, prostitution is rife and the rest have serious mental illnesses and should definitely remain single.
I also have retained gigabytes of screenshots to back these claims up.
Any dating site,, hell any site linked to the GoDaddy Web host group are renowned for operating and enabling scammers so just avoid at all costs.
These include any site with Cupid at the end, Plenty of Fish and a long list of others.
My IP was banned for trying to report these scams which tells you all you need to know.
I am over the age of 50 and I have been on this site for 6 years. I have met and dated several decent men. I have not met anyone I want to marry because I am not there yet. I recommend it for anyone getting back in the dating scene. I carefully screen the users. Beware that there are some romance scammers. The site has a great moderating feature. You can block and report anyone that you don't want to engage in conversation on IM. I am also a moderator on the site. It is a pretty liberal site so you will find anything and everything based on the line of questions. The best thing about OKCupid is that it is absolutely free! No scams or tricks.
Enjoy!
You get more free than some of the others but it still is like a dead end. The match system seems off and it shows you people with like 10 percent match somehow. You still can't do everything without paying but you can talk to people and browse matches with filters. Overall it was better than the other "free" sites but still left much to be desired and I ended up deleting my account. So I wouldn't bother
Guys stay away from these scammers. After you purchase their premium pack, they will ban you for no reason a day later. They are scammers and you will never get a response to your inquiries. Most of the profiles are fake
Worst dating site I have ever tried. I was on the site for merely 2 days and i kept getting this "internal error" even though I was using the correct name and password. I emailed customer service and never got a reply back. Through research, I discovered OKcupid is notorious for doing this to a lot of people. Even though I did not once violate the terms of service, and not one of my photos was provocative in any manner. (they were just of my face). The research told me my account was deleted, and email was banned. No body knows why they do this to people. Worst customer service.
I use OkCupid along with WeJustFit.com and POF and find the combination works pretty well. Its not expensive to do it that way and you dont get bored of being on one site all the time and seeing the same faces again and again. Plus you obviously improve your chances of meeting the one as you end up going on quite a few dates with people. All the sites are pretty different too, so you find things you like about one that you dont necessarily find on the other sites. But each has their advantages id say. With this site its probably the mobile app, which is super easy to use and has a nice layout. So yeah id say its a good website to use if youre doing a combination of sites.
It's written on my profile who, what i'm looking for.
People who are the complete opposite of the description send me messages, and get mad when I don't reply.
I made the mistake of including my deviantart profile link on my profile.
Some loser that I didn't reply to sent me hate comments on there.
(I didn't know it was someone who found me from okcupid. I replied on his DA profile, and a few days later I got a "cute" message on okc saying what a douchebag psycho I am, how dare I talk like that about his artwork etc.)
Kinda pathetic.
Okcupid is a free dating website which means that most of the men on there are basically looking for something for free. I met one person on this site and he was a total pervert. I should have known because look at the questions they ask and really the Swiss cheese pervert was on the site. The guys on here are low class low grade me. The conversation I had with the last and final guy told me to go $#*! off because I wouldn't flirt with him through IM. That is when I closed out my account and had enough. I have better things to do with my time than talk to low class degrading men. If you are bored ladies by all means this site might be for you but other than that its a waste of time. This isn't a dating website. Its a site for men to get laid for free who have no respect for women.
They continuously repeat the same profiles on the swipe left or right part.
I paid for A-list unfortunately and still couldn't even see my own sent messages.
You can send a message to someone you like after seeing their pics and reading their profile and guess what? They don't even get your message unless they happen to randomly like your profile? Not a good system.
After hearing of MiKinlay's story from Wired, I thought it would be fun to do some reading about the method he used in finding his perfect match. This short paper does a great job of summarizing the analysis he did and how he used that data to build a dating profile that appealed to the women he wanted to meet.
This is less a review of the site than the quality of people on it. The women complain that men only want sex, nobody reads their profile and they don't want messages that only consist of 'whats up,' yet when somebody real comes around they only focus on that persons photos.
They advertise as a completely free site and it's not, only to look at pictures. I see the same faces and they push likes and messages to get you to pay. Needless to say i didn't fall for it and won't pay to chat with someone who really isn't interested to get to know me
Wow! If ever a dating site was absolutely pathetic, OKCupid is it. My experience was that it's pretty much a scam. I made a profile, set my parameters and started swiping. After only 2 days the site showed that I had 67 people that had seen my profile and were interested. That should have been my cue to move along. But, with poor judgement in hand I paid for a subscription to see who these people were. Keep in mind I had set me age and distance parameters.
Once I paid I started scrolling and within seconds ran out of potential matches within those parameters. To see if changing those parameters made any difference I set them to all age ranges and no distance filter. I couldn't find anyone within my state that OKCupid had indicated was interested in me. The only conclusion that I can draw is that OKCupid knowingly allows scam accounts and individuals well outside of the set parameters to show interest in you in order to get you to sign up. I deleted my account and lesson learned.
I have got to say, reading all of the reviews on this site, that I have to wonder whether we are using the same thing?
Every one of my last 4 relationships, over the past 10 years, has been either with women whom I have met on OKC, or whom I have met through friends that I have made through women I have met on OKC... And I have never encountered a scammer there!
Maybe it's because I only spend time on women with a >= 90% match and a <= 10% enemy with me...!
I find their matching algorithm to be excellent... And it doesn't matter how silly the questions are, it will match you with people who answered similarly as you did!
I signed up for this service yesterday even paid to be upgraded so I could possibly contact more members I e-mailed all the women I could on their site I guess an crime for this website haha This is my e-mail that I sent to all the women (Hi there beautiful girl how are you? I seem to have lost my heart somewhere could you possibly help me find it?) I know it's pretty bad right? Haha So today I try to log in and it says my account was suspended! Why? For just trying to contact members? Haha Run far away from this one it's an complete scam!
Have used ok cupid on and off for a number of years. But have noticed a rapid decline in it's usable, free functions that were available on the site. For example, you can longer see users that viewed your profile. The messaging functions are now very limited. To name but a few of the functions that were available for free. Due to this reason, could possibly mean a decline in the amount of people now using the site? There also seem to be a lot more fake profiles and likes etc. Which may be a way of getting you to sign up to it's paid functions? As you can only see your likes if you sign up to it's paid services. These are just a few of my gripes with ok cupid, which is a real shame as it used be a great dating website. But won't bother with it anymore, even if it is a free(ish) dating website!
I must say I have been quite impressed by okcupid. As someone that's quite new to online dating I've only tried wejustfit.com and this one. Both are excellent and I've found a variety of interesting people to speak to and even meet in person. I wouldn't quite say that I've found my 'knight in shining armour' yet but I believe that having two sites that have plenty of members in my area (Kensington) really give me the best possible chance. Here's hoping anyway! Best x
I have proof that a user's profile is fake and still ok cupid won't remove it. This is already the second time in as many weeks that I've been scammed on that site. I get that scams happen. It's just how it is. But for a company to be so irresponsible as to not even delete scammer profiles? That is when I delete my app and move on.
I haven't really met anyone worth my time. Seems all the men on this site don't want to date. Just want a one night stand. Have been insulated by a few because I am looking for more than one night stand. Would not recommend to anyone at this point. Very diappounted.
I said OkCupid several emails complaining about the apps new update to change a format and how it doesn't work so they suspended my account due to terms and services basically because I complain it said their app sucked no other reason!
As a 2x divorced woman that met her second husband on OKC and had a horrible 4 year marriage, I would have and I never thought that going back on after the divorce would have changed my life forever. My Fiance and I met and connected with a 95% match! This is the man I have waited all my life for. We live together and every day it is refreshing and beautiful even after almost 8 months, and now we are "one", and very soon to be married.
Like any dating site, you are going to get the fakers and scammers. I was married to one. It also helped that we lived about two hrs away in the beginning. It works! I am living proof.
Dating is hard enough, but OK Cupid makes it even harder. Deletes visibility of and communication with who you texted an initial "hello" to unless that party either responds or "likes" you in return. Until that happens the other person's profile is "poof" gone. Problem is you are not sure that your message was ever received. The web site has just introduced uncertainty into what is an already uncertain process. OK Cupid says they do that so that person won't be pestered with unwanted messages. Guess the web site insists on treating adults like middle schoolers who are not able to use a "block" button. Secondly they seriously restrict matches. I live in a 4-5 million metropolitan area. Searched for women looking for men aged 50-70. Guess how many OK Cupid offers5 yes five. Not five who liked my profile, but five available in my targeted demographic. Who designed this website's algorithm, the competition? Not renewing, not worth the money
Everyone that I met on this site is a deviant. Every. Single. One.
Or they had horrendous things wrong with them bad backs, metal plates in various extremities, unemployed, homeless. Cross dresser, which didn't come out until way too late in the conversation. Penchant for exhibitionism and public sex. Backgrounds in porn. If you're looking for that, cool. I just don't like those kinds of surprises.
I did end up dating someone. Seemed ok at first. Then little factoids came out: alcoholic, rehab stint, philander, history of violent behavior. I wondered how I had answered those questions to cause me to be in that predicament.
I tried. I spent money on boosts, spent time messaging, exchanged numbers, etc. The whole thing. I guess I should quit while I'm ahead. Now i just want to delete my profile and call it a day.
I am a little surprised by some of the more negative reviews below - ultimately okcupid is a free site with good interaction and you can get out what you put in. Upload some photos, give a description, send some asks, and actually get some real responses from people who probably would not be paying to be listed otherwise. Double that praise given dating sites in general sre expensive and full of frauds - the number of sites which have 10 stunners an hour apparently wink at you only to direct you to a cam site asking for your credit card. And if you want to pay for the match or eharmony experience fine but don't moan about okcupid just because you cannot see a skip button or if you cannot evaluate people's profiles for yourself.
This was my second profile on OKC. I actually watched a couple of YouTube videos about writing a quality CV OKC Man's profile. In one week, 34 visits. 9 mutual likes. Of the 9,3 said "let's meet." After a week, one of the three has called me. The other 8 faded away. Moved to Hangouts with 2 others. Both live in Ghana. Same story. Born in USA. In Ghana to take care of sick mother/father, I need some money for food and Mama's prescriptions. In one week. I disabled my OKC profile. Later that same day. Thursday, Nov 9th. I wrote a similar profile for POF. Much faster, more varied response. I've been on POF for one week. So far POF is hands down more lively than OKC.
