“Great website!”

JONATHAN J.
1/2/13

Great website! Cool approach to the online dating world. Mostly clean well managed, Free! There are obviously things that could be improved, like server speed or conversation approaching style option expansion, but again it's free.

Top Critical Review

“Low grade, no preferences, quantity over quality with few good options”

Ghostwriter t.
10/4/24

I came onto this site twice, each time paid the monthly fee and each time my preferences were totally ignored. I am specific about what I want so that I do not have to go through 100's of men's profiles to weed out the men who smoke or want children. I find this website did absolutely nothing for me. They say no particular pictures are allowed to be posted yet they are constantly posted and low quality people are here to choose from because no one is checking the sites for quality assurance. This is the worst site as far as low level for the price, is should always be free if the site isn't doing what it claims its doing for you.

I spent hours getting my account set up and messaging a few women and instead of seeing if I had a reply the next day my account is banned.

Tip for consumers:
pick a different sight. With no word and no word back my account was just locked for no reason.

Here is the thing if you want love dam pay for it and have a certified site sort them out or just be alone point blank online is a scam regardless. I met men off of this site into my lifestyle so i thought i found out they are mentally nuts i found one guy who wants to dominate me and beat me with electrical cords as i am dangling from his attic ceiling i mean he surely phucking scared the hell out of me but later i found out he was mentally ill he was suffering with ptsd but still was never treated i lost contact with him quick.

Bible thumpers into the bible and bondage who the hell knew freaks come in all sorts of religions yikes.

Anal drawn porno kings. I found a man all he wants is anal sex raping kind on a girl or just the easy kind. This is a dark side of this man well i thought the man has a thing for little kids and yes i said it. He wants me to dress up like a 16 year old in a school girls out fit and then bare my arse out to him for anal sex he says if it is ripping it is good he wants to rape and beat me until i can not move.
He said he would capture me in his basement and then use me as he feels until i am bred and then sell my babies.

I was like your nuts all the conversations with this man was down right nutty and plus he looks like a vampire and not a cute kind he is nasty looking all he needs is a cape and the vampire teeth he is hiddious and gross.

All rapists, porn kings and pedophiles and sex offenders.
Be warn
They all want to do bondage on you, either rape you or hell just down right hurt you i think i am paying for e harmony and phuck this scary phucking site.

OKPeople, OKCupid is, based on my experience, essentially an online brothel and its offering should be changed to the international escort service it more closely resembles. However, if you want to be contacted by hookers or scammers using fake profiles, then fill your boots and sign up!

Now, if you have a few moments, here's a heads-up on how it worked - or, rather, didn't - for me.

The fake profiles are generally, but not exclusively, those with a too good to be true head shot or saucy 'come hither' poses (You don't REALLY expect to find catwalk-ready supermodels or buffed Fabio types on a site like this - and don't flatter yourself into thinking that if they were really there they'd be making a beeline for you).

The fake profile will include an often occasionally grammatically incorrect and possibly generic-sounding 'About Me' type statement. However, be warned that the scammers' grammar has improved so that such statements no longer resemble those of Nigerian internet fraudsters (that's what a partial education does, I guess).

So, cut and paste these statements into Google, hit return and Bingo!: 'Katie' from Kent is also Larissa from Lithuania or Petra from Petrovsk on other dating sites. Surprised? Don't be as it's depressing but true that fraudsters - along with the rest of society's flotsam and jetsam - are floating around ready to attach themselves to the unwary on this site.

Avoid it like syphilis - unless you want to contract a dose and probably have your bank account drained at the same time (and that's the only thing that will get drained, guys!). To sum up, the only person likely to get screwed here is you - and not in a pleasurable way.

OKC pretends to cater to diversity, but it fails.

The questions they ask are often easy for some users to interpret differently based on their beliefs regarding the subject(i. E. monogamists and swingers may give the same answer to a question about cheating when they really mean two very different things), making match scores inaccurate. To make matters worse, they ask open-ended questions as multiple choice, and ask many that are nearly identical to others. One of my top matches is actually an ex who I now know is one of the least compatible people I've ever met.

They also bias their search results by pairing popular people with other popular people, and keeping many of them out of the results for the unpopular, as if this is high school again. They've actually sent out mass e-mails to the popular members announcing this. The popular members don't need any help meeting each other. Us plain people are who dating sites are supposed to be catering to.

They don't have any filters nor indications of transgender status, other than a few questions thrown in with the personality questionnaire(which only affects your score, and doesn't filter your results like gay/bi/straight and male/female do). I hate not knowing whether or not the member would be attracted to me or want to kill me(or even worse, both) until I actually talk to them; it's a very volatile issue, more-so than homosexuality which they do choose to accommodate. I've been harassed numerous times because some people get angry when a transgender person appears in their search results.

It may be free and easy to use, but I have yet to meet a single person worth meeting in person because of these practices. I'm sure it's a great experience for gender-conforming monogamist prom-queens, but if you're not already at a social advantage, it's difficult to accomplish anything.

I've used for Okcupid for 4-5 years and here is what I learned.

1. Don't expect alot of responses. The average reply rate in 1 out of 50 messages sent

2. The questions are fun to answer but offer little else as the match % doesn't really matter. You can never know what girl will reply back to you despite her match %

3. It's free to do a lot of basic things but you'll have to pay a fee to get extra services. The best feature "A"-Listers have over Free Users is the ability to see whether or not someone has actually read your message. Lots of times you're not sure whether or not a girl has actually seen your message since she probably has dozens (hundreds if she's good looking) to read. Other than that, the 5000 message cap is nice since you'll likely to run out of room with the free 300 message gap (since it includes messages sent as well as messages received.)

4. At first, i started to only message girls that i liked (appearance and personality-wise), when I wasn't getting results, i threw caution to the wind and messaged every girl possible. This landed me dozens of replied, several dates, and a relationship that i'm still currently in.

Bonus: I wanted to see what online dating would be like if I was a girl so I made up several fake profiles and learned a few things.

1. Lots of couples ask you for threesomes. So much so, i can't believe OkCupid doesn't have a category for these people

2. Lots and I mean Lots of guys. The ratio of boys to girls is at least 5:1

3. Lots and lots of generic messages (hey, sup, yo) and cooker-cutter messages (hey girl, i think you're cute and i like your personality) my personal favorite being (you probably won't see this message since i'm sure your inbox is filled with messages but i wanted to tell you, etc.)

3.5 Guys are super quick to give out phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses

4. Good amount of long thought out messages that clearly show they have read the profile at least

5. Girls reply more when you send them messages, even a few of the straight girls have sent a reply.

So yeah, that's pretty much my review in a nutshell.

Tip for consumers:
Be realistic with your standards. If you're a hot guy, then have your pick. If you're average, then go for average looking girls, if you're ugly, then take what you can get.

as for girls, if you're hot, expect hundreds of messages and even average looking girls can expect dozens of messages as well. also let your intent be known about why you signed up and stick with it.

OKCupid is notorious for blocking accounts out of the blue. It's typically males, and likely because several women singled your profile out with red flag. Note: This does not happen often. Of 3-4M users, it happens to perhaps a hundred a month. Be cool and you've likely not much to worry about.

Yes, I have been blocked. My profile is fairly blunt, and even rather salacious. My best guess my "bouncing" was for being overly blunt with my "no thanks remarks". Better to not answer mail from someone you've no interest in. In case you get caught up in this, here's a bit of info which might help? I did some research. OK Cupid, like Match.com, is own by parent company IAC *******300). I called, was connected to a friendly voice (who had nothing to do with consumers or Cupid), and explained my situation briefly and with concern. Turns out Cupid is under umbrella of Match.com, Contact is: *******824 or *******352) and look for help there. Don't expect much.

After those negatives, and all the BS aside, what makes Cupid "work", is the search mechanism of premium package: In premium one can take individual questions Cupid throws at every user, and select about five (which REALLY matter), and key them and those who answer in that fashion. For instance: I may feel strongly about a girl who likes her hair pulled during sex (not joking). I select the question "Do you like your hair pulled during sex?", and select the answer I'm hoping a woman will respond with: options to question: A."Not At All', B."Yes But Lightly', or C. "Grab a fistful and pull with all you've got". Well I select C. Now as I click search... those girls who've answered this question with "C", will be singled out and shown to me. Make sense? You get about five of these in premium, and of Cupid's 1k questions, you can truly begin to address what matters to you in every aspect of a relationship.

Hope that helps.

Update: 11-2-16
Same thing, perfectly good PAID A-member account mysteriously suit down for "Violation Of Terms". No questions, no options, no place to take concern expect what I mentioned above. CAREFUL. I'm going to twitter about this, and get anywhere I'll let you know.
Ron

Tip for consumers:
I have no idea exactly what initiates a "bump" from the site. But it seems another frustrated member's ability to fabricate wrong-doing on your part (perhaps being rebuffed when writing to you), is a very likely genesis for blocking. With all the time you might put into a genuine search for a partner on OK Cupid, your efforts are as fragile as a whimsical blocking, and you have ZERO opportunity for reinstatement to site.

I haven't experienced any scammers and I wasn't ripped off (I didn't pay for the premium package). I was really disappointed with the low quality of posts, pictures and messages I was getting there. So many guys posting pics of headless naked torsos (is it supposed to be sexy?), or having their faces hidden behind big sunglasses, even when they are indoors (so their wives friends won't recognize them?). I am sure there are many wonderful guys there, but it's just so hard to find them. Many didn't even bother to write anything about themselves. And I kept getting those robocall messages "hi, how are ya?" From obviously super lazy guys, who couldn't even write a couple of personal sentences or make a reference to something I had mentioned in my profile. I can imagine they just kept sending these hi how are yas to every single female on this website hoping that at least one or two would reply out of desperation. I went for a few dates but I was taken aback but how guys misrepresented themselves in their profiles: the pictures were at least a decade old. One guy who described himself as "skinny" was actually overweight and came up with a very lame story how he suddenly gained weight. I did have some interesting conversations for sure, and met some nice people, but sadly nothing came out of it. I guess it takes a lot of time and effort, and one has to kiss many frogs, but I got really discouraged by all this.
OKCupid is definitely not the worst dating website, and it's free but I really wish it was a bit more selective (no headless pictures, no huge sunglasses) and maybe give guys some good tips on how to approach women? If you're a guy and and are on a dating website/app - just consider it - instead of sending a girl one of those "how are you beautiful?" maybe make a small effort and try to actually strike up an intelligent and meaningful conversation and ask her about something you're read in her profile, so she knows that there is actually a reason why you decided to contact her, besides the obvious.

I was on OK cupid since it first started for about 3 years. First time around it was a great site and I actually answered over 2500 questions seriously thinking that the more questions I answer the better shot I will have at finding Mr Right 4 me. I got really frustrated at the sites offers of men although I did rave and promote the site to many of the guys on POF. I especially liked the HIDE FEATURE AND THE CHAT SESSIONS. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM with the questions being answered and I really appreciated the site although I did not get a single date from the site. The biggest problem with the site is there are not enough men and the ones I found compatible were FAR AWAY, like many states away. I decided to take a break from the site and hid my profile for about a year. Then I returned and was I ever in for a unpleasant surprise You could no longer chat on the site, you no longer had the hide availability and the guys on the site are fugly. Looks like some went to the Bowery and photographed homeless, people and put them on the site. I exaggerate NOT. Then come to find out OK was selling personal information from the people on the site answering. OOOO In addition to that they intentionally mismatched the algorithms saying you were compatible 89% (what ever the score) to people you were definitely not compatible with.At first when I found them to sell personal information without my permission I figured well the site is free and they do have to make $$$ but the intentional mismatch was what did me in. I deleted, never been back since. I am surprised that are still active.
