Card started getting declined for no reason when I clearly have money on the card. Have been trying to reach a representative. The automated system goes for a long time before you can press a button and then it seems to time out and doesn't recognize any button you press. To finally reach someone I chose the dispute a transaction option. It patched me through to a representative but keeps saying wait times are currently long. Curious as to how since it's so hard to even reach a representative. Once you actually get a hold of one they were pretty helpful and nice. Besides this issue I've had no problems with the card.
They opened an account in my name that I did not even had access to and charged me late fees on that, I could not even pay those fees and that affected my credit score by 40 points. I called customer service and they treated me like garbage, talked for 1 hour and they said it would take 90 days to solve my case, that my only option was to wait. They even made me pay those fees through the phone but refused to close that account that I don't have access to… guess I will have to wait 90 days and then called them back
Put a deposit of $200 for the OpenSky secured cc. Waited for card and called 3x and the same person answers and gives different names. Tonya, Tara and Rhonda are the same person. She states that there is a plastics shortage and can't get a card in the mail yet and they don't know how long it's going to take. Asked to close acct and get my money back. She states that it will take 8 weeks at least to get the payment in the mail.

I have canceled my account with Open Sky and asked for my deposit back of $200 dollars I was informed that I had to wait 8 to 10 weeks. 12 weeks have passed and I still haven't received my refund. I contacted Open Sky and they said that they couldn't identify me I had to demand to speak to a Supervisor then I was finally identified stating that they had sent out a check earlier. These people have unscrupulous business practices buyer beware.
OpenSky/Capital Bank -- Thank You for reversing a 20 point drop in my credit which happened when I paid an old bill. Paying an old bill during CoViD just after fighting a 4 year legal battle against the worst corruption in the world should increase credit score not drop it.

If OpenSky/Capital Bank cause trouble they shouldn't on credit bureaus, dispute wit the buseaus more than once if necessary, my score was corrected.

I've had services for 2 months. Spend only 90 bucks but because of their poorly operational system I've now gained 80 in charges. They suck. Looking for something a little more solid.

This is pretty much the BEST flexible secured card you'll find. Its a Visa, the minimum down-payment is only $200, and they have NO credit check. There is no other Card with that as a prerequisite. I got my card within a matter of weeks and increasing a limit was a simple matter of calling in and mailing a check. The card has given me zero issues and I use it everywhere.
My only complaints would be that the call menu needs more options, the app could use some work, and this card really needs to be on Apple Pay. Otherwise, this card is a GREAT option and anyone looking to build up from bad credit or for a card that will 100% accept someone without credit.
Most of these negative reviews are clearly people who are mixing user error vs legitimate complaints. Skipping reading the TOC or missing the $35 fee that's plastered on the application isn't something to blame the company for. They are small scale and likely the last shot at a CC for many people... keep your expectations realistic and you won't be disappointed in any regard.
I have no idea why people are writing negative reviews about this card. I had this card back in 2002 when I was getting my credit re-established. Worked great, easy to reach customer service, quick to apply payments, never any problem. Then I got much better cards and limits from 2005-2017, so I closed this card in 2015. Serious medical issues required me starting all over again in 2018, so guess who was there to help? My old friend Open Sky through Capital Bank. Easy to open a new one, payments credited quickly, can always reach customer service. I deposited $1,400 and try to keep it paid down. There is an annual fee of $35, but that is standard for many secured cards. Also, Open Sky gives you this card with NO credit check. The people who are writing negative reviews could not get the card because the banks needs to be able to verify your address and who you are so they know you're not a scammer.
That is good practice from a bank. So make sure to keep your PHYSICAL home address updated on your driver's license and with the credit bureaus, and you will have no problems. I've twice been a customer with Open Sky since 2002, so I know very well that this is a good card from years of dealing with them. Keep your physical home address current on your driver's license and address current with the credit bureaus (make sure these two addresses match), pay on time, don't run up your card to the limit, and you will have a VERY good experience with Open Sky. Open Sky will accept you for a second chance when others will not.
I'm trying to access my account and I can't get in. Iv been on hold an hour. N ringed and says my wait time 30 more minutes. It says the information doe's not match.
This card was good for helping me repair my credit, but it's definitely not the type of card to rely on for anything big such as risking getting stranded somewhere. Several times renting a car from Hertz, the hold that had been placed on the card was removed by Hertz immediately on return of the car. However, the refunded hold would literally just sit there as "pending" for another 2-3 weeks, and once completed it would take another whole week for OpenSky to actually return the credit to me. There was no excuse for this whatsoever, especially when it's a secured card. Customer service stinks, and there is no way to send them messages. You can call and sit on hold, or you can write them a letter. That's it. I will say they doubled my credit after proving I was responsible with the card, making frequent payments and keeping balance at zero as much as I could. I was not relying on the card for anything but my electric bill and to rent cars. Don't plan on relying on it for anything else, because they are super slow at letting old things drop off the account. Now that my credit is good, I don't even use this card anymore. Closing cards hurts your credit score, but that 30 dollar annual fee for nothing is still a bummer.

Terrible customer service. After building up my credit I decided to keep this card open with a running zero dollar balance to show a credit history. Then THEY opted me in to paper statements with out my acknowledgement and charged me money every month for this service that I DID NOT opt in to. When I confronted them about it Tiara, one of the customer service agents, told me to pay it or I'd be sent to collections.
So the very thing I was relying on this card to do became counterproductive to my overall goal. When I finally got on the phone with someone that actually knew what customer service was, they waived the fees and closed the account.
BE AWARE OF HIDDEN FEES, CLOSE IT ONCE YOU BUILD YOUR CREDIT UP.
I have an OpenSky credit card for two-plus years. They have a very long wait time to speak with a representative. When I call to report fraudulent charges the nightmare begins. They gave me the wrong information and forgot to report all of the fraudulent charges. I tried to tell them because they didn't give temporary credit for all the transactions. They had my credit card account in the negative for one going two months and charged me late fees. They told me how to make a minimum payment I did they still had me in the negative. They transferred me around to another credit card that does not work with my credit card company. My phone calls were disconnected when they put me on hold. On or around September 15,2023, they again gave me wrong information and transferred around a total of 7 people and was still not help with my issues. They told Mr. That the fraudulent transaction investigation was closed but they missed two to three fraudulent transactions I told them many times to add them but they kept saying they were added. It is amazing how disorganized this company is. They told me one thing then I received a letter saying someone else. My credit score was effectively very negative because of their sloppiness. I strongly recommend that you do your business somewhere else. It's many credit cards that can help build your credit with less headaches and mental stress.

Be aware, you may have to buy a Laptop or PC to access your account. On two of my Mobile Devices after FOUR YEARS I can not login. Nor can I from my mobile Web Browser. I was on the Phone with Their "Technicians" lol, and they couldn't tell me how to Navigate Open Skys landing page. Told me I have to do it myself and figure it out. Well, thankfully I understand Back and front End of websites. Good luck to those who Don't. Because their Techs don't know Either. I opened this card not reading the reviews and now am wondering when I will receive my deposit back. I closed out my account with paid in full on 06/2017 and I am still waiting for my deposit of a measly $200. I did not appreciate them holding my available funds for over a week after the payment posted. This company likes to earn interest when we make payments by not making the funds available immediately. Not only that, they hold our deposits for over 2 months after we close out the account to earn extra interest. Now imagine doing this to thousands of people you can see how they earn more interest! Also, when you call customer service or billing dept they are instructed to tell us that it will be 10 weeks for processing and 7-10 business days for receipt of the check in the mail. If you do the math this adds up to 3 months before we see our refund of the deposit. They use a bank to draft your bank checking account but they will not pay for the credit in reverse since you would get the credit back in 1 business day and opensky has to pay extra for that. They are not in the business to lose interest or get your money back to you quickly. I think the bank they use should revoke their credit draft process and report negative credit reporting process. Oh I can say this since I used to work at a banking system for many years and know that drafting is credit driven even for this credit card company and their credit draft processing should be revoked!
Would rate 0 if possible. First of all, If I had known this company's communication was so pitiful, I would have NEVER done business with them. They do not send confirmation emails or updates on the account, once you close the account you no longer have access to the online dashboard even if you're still making payments so you're forced to call and speak with their illiterate representatives. They make you wait 10+ weeks to receive your deposit... this place just needs to shut down! I was in dire need of rectifying my credit and made a horrible choice to go with this company... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE!

Paid the deposit 6 months ago, never got a card in mail, never activated a card, realize later on when I want a new card that it says I have over $150 in 'late payments.' FOR WHAT? I paid the deposit and never used the card so how can I owe money? WTF is wrong with you people?
Do not touch this company. They give you BS charges even if you never used the card. Telling my bank to deny the deposit charge and $#*! these animals.
I moved to the US in 2016 and got this card as an attempt to build credit. No wonder it was so easy to get - this card has been an absolute nightmare since say one.

They return payments they never even attempt to take in order to issue you with 'reversal fees'
They don't post your payments until after the due day so they can issue you with 'late fees'

I've never said this about a credit/debit card company before but this company is a real scam. I haven't used the card in over a year and decided to cancel it to save on their annual fee and get my deposit back.
When I logged into my account I saw over $400 in charges! All to the same place which was only called "WOODBURY NY" I've never been to Woodbury NY, don't know anybody there and have never bought anything from there. But primarily - even if I did buy something from there I didn't do it on this card! Because I haven't used the card other than twice when I first got it two years ago.
When I logged into the account I found 18 charges made over the last 12 months! One was for $127 and one was for $200. The others were like $17 and $20. I didn't make any of these charges. But I didn't notice them until it was too late because I never checked my account. I thought why should I check it if I'm not using it. And of course they never mailed or emailed a bill either.
Bottom line is - I've NEVER had a card get any fraudulent charges. But the Sky card - it almost feels like someone at OpenSky shared my card info with thieves and told them to enjoy their day! Maybe they get a kickback from doing that.
Can not talk to human being when call. Takes forever for them tom process payments. Need my CC for car rental for my business and with hold up on payments costing me money Does not offer debit payments so immediately. Scam so they can charge you as much interest as possible. First off let me say this card should not get any negative reviews. If you used this card accordingly and are patient, there should never be any issues with it and you will see results. Customer service could do better with hold/wait time when calling but all that tells you is call when you have time to spare. Again, Im truly shocked at how many negative reviews have been posted against Opensky. Using this card has helped open doors that were once closed to me. Ive had this card for 3 months and saw my credit score rise like never before 150 pts/ 3mo. Thats saying a lot coming from a person who has had a credit score of 441 for the past two years. All I did was buy small purchases like a pack of cigarettes, $10 in gas and energy drinks all at separate times of course. Keep your card utilization under 35% for best results, lower the better. If anyone is still on the fence about applying for this card i hope after reading this will make up your mind. I speak from experience Opensky is a legitimate game changer.
They dont have a way to ask for help. Their number is useless. I set up automatic payments, and it didn't even work. It will make your credit worse if you arent careful.
Don't do it. Had to call customer service (which BTW there is NOT ANY 800 numbers on website only on credit card) to replace an expired card. OpenSky not open for business has delays producing cards. ALSO**** VERY IMPORTANT. AFTER you pay off the balance on your card it takes 6-8 weeks before they cut a check and send it to you. This is one of those credit rebuilder cards that you pay upfront BUT is limited and not very useful. Along with JUNK fees and in my example I have gone currently 3 months without using my card ONLY PAYING FEES AND BILLS >>> BECAUSE I don't have a replacement card after previous card expired. Customer support rep was BELOW average. Times are tough at OpenSky don't get caught in this trap like I did.

Don't bother with this company! I went through a whole ordeal trying to track down money I sent for a deposit only to have capital bank them tell me that CAPITAL BANK IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH OPENSKY DESPITE WHAT THEIR WEBSITE ADVERTISED. In addition to this the Account and routing number were both found to be INVALID AS IN NON EXISTENT IN ANY BANKING INSTITUTIONS. SCAM SCAM SCAM! They make it extremely difficult to contact them despite having a website and app they don't have a contact number listed, they do however give several PO Box addresses for you to contact them BY MAIL. Simply avoid these people unless this is a last resort and you're ok with being scammed!
