I am a student and used my dad's card to sign up in Sept'19 to try out the website. However, I couldn't find the materials that I was looking for and applied for cancellation within 15 days at the max. However, I have been charged for almost a year now. When the complaint was raised, the team made a big fuss about being generous to refund a month's charge and then extended to 3 months. I don't understand how such unethical firms are existing and exploiting student's money. Such firms should brought to the law and be punished severely.
Wish I could give a negative rating but unfortunately no such options. Please let me know if there are any options to stop such people from exploiting other students.
I signed up for the free trial, but when I go to cancel my subscription, the website says there is no record of my membership, no credit card on file, and no payment history. Scribd deducted $8.99 from my account today..
Hi Simone - I'm sorry to hear about this! Most likely, you have two accounts with us, which is why you're not seeing any payment details when you sign in. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we can absolutely locate your second account and issue a refund. Thank you!
I was charged $8.99 on 6th April, 2018 and got charged $8.99 again 16th April, 2018 with no prior notice and that's expensive taking into account the exchange rate in my country. I did not get any prior notification to that effect save for my bank records. I wrote *******@scribd.com and I got an automated message informing they will get back to me in 1 business week. Who does that? My ticket number is #*******. I'm absolutely livid and to think I wanted to give the service a chance. Seeing people having similar complaints is really disheartening to say the least.
Hi there - I'm sorry for the confusion. I opened your ticket and it looks like Denise responded to you letting you know that you were not double charged but there was a few week delay on your first charge as your card was declined by your bank. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reply back to Denise's email. Thank you!
They make money by scamming people. I cancelled my membership 3 years ago but they intentionally have been taking money from my account. I demand a full refund of my £279 RIGHT NOW or I will take legal action. I have given them over three months to return my money but still no assistance and I have lost my patience now.
Ticket no: #*******
They are lying saying that they cannot 'physically' give me my money back even though the transactions are still seen in my account. What a joke. Their response: "While I do truly apologize, we are physically incapable of issuing anything further than 180 days (six months) out from the current date, as the limitations in place by our payment processors do not allow us to circumvent this; that is, the transactions have already been removed from our systems for actionable review."
We apologize for any frustration. As w have already explained, 6 months is the maximum amount of refunds we are able to process in our system. If you have any other questions for us, please let us know via email, otherwise, have a nice day -EC
I hate it because of it's constant bull$#*! about subscribing. I don't want to subscribe to read a $#*!ing document that isn't even yours. Scribd is full of $#*!ty documents which in order to read them, you need to pay 9 dollars a month. Every time I come to this site not for it's stupid bestselling books that no one needs or reads, but for these documents which were illegally uploaded without theirs author's consent.
Hi Euthanasius - I'm sorry to hear about your frustration with our service - it is not a free service that we offer, but a recurring monthly subscription for all content on our site. All documents are uploaded by individual users - if you believe something has been uploaded without the author's permission, please feel free to email us at help@scribd.com. Thank you!
I signed up for the 14 day trial, and cancelled it two days later when I found that the only book I need is not in a citable format on scribd. Still, I found myself being charged with $8.99. I can explain what kind of "free" is in scribd's crooked dictionary? I hope everyone stay away from this stupid site!
Hi Allen, I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding! It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! If you aren't seeing that charge fall off after 5 business days, please email us at help@scribd.com and we can take a look. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I've been trying to unsubscribe for months! I've sent an email, as instructed in the bank info. I have unsubscribed using their website. I don't use their service at all, for many months! And still, they keep charging me! Do not subscribe! You won't be able to leave it!
Hello, we are sorry to hear you are still having difficulties. We are happy to look into this for you. To better assist you, please update your review to include your ticket number so that we can have it assigned ASAP to one of our specialists. Thank you. - mr
After nearly 5 months of thinking I canceled my subscription to Scribd, I find out I've been being charged every month by them. It is because of their manipulative formatting when trying to cancel your subscription that I thought I'd cancelled my account. I am outraged and feel cheated. I have taken all personal information off that site and I suggest people do not subscribe to them. It has cost me over 40 dollars for not even using the site.
Hi Katie! I sent you a message on here on June 28, but have not heard back as of yet. I'd love to take a look and get this issue resolved for you. If you can email us at support@scribd.com, or if you can message us your account email address we can assist you. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
This company is a fraud. Do not fall to the free subscription trap.
They kept charging on my card even after the end of subscription.
There is no way you contact them, their only support contact does not respond.
They do not have any customer care.
Money eaters they are.
We apologize for any confusion or frustration, Namrata, and for the delay from support. To clarify, we cannot charge someone after they cancel their subscription and our support team is available to help. At your convenience, please let us know your ticket number and we can use that to escalate your case -EC
I had inadvertently signed up for two separate Scribd accounts, and so paid for two subscriptions for about 8 months before realising I had signed up twice. Now why did I not realise that I had two accounts? Because although Scribd charged me twice every month, I was only able to access Scribd through ONE of my email addresses, leading me to think I had only one account.
When I raised this with Scribd, they refunded me only the latest charge, when this had gone on for 9 months. They then point to their Refund Policy, which requires that you challenge any charge within 30 days. Needless to say if I have only one account that is usable, I don't think Scribd is charging me for two.
Utterly dishonest company. Stay well away from them.
Thank you for informing us, Leonard. Per our refund policy, we are typically only able to refund charges that are less than 30 days old. However, we can take a look at your accounts to see if we can apply some additional refunds.
That said, please update this comment with your ticket number and we'll get back to you ASAP. Otherwise, thanks for your time here. Have a good day.
This company is a total scam. I never signed up to this business, never purchased anything from them and never had an account with them. They started taking £9.99 a month from my account in Aug 2021 (increasing to £10.99 a month in April 2022). I had no way of cancelling these payments as I did not have an account with them and therefore could not log in to their website. The only interaction I have ever had with this company is in April 2012 when I read something using Scribd on Facebook and they emailed me. This was over nine years before they then started taking money from me. TOTAL scam.
Hello Laura, I am happy to help address any charges from Scribd you have received. If you have an open support ticket please let me know the ticket number. If not please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
I found the content of Scribd to be pretty scattered when looking for a specific piece of information. I also found that one should never give their credit card number to these people. I canceled in June, my subscription should have expired by July. I had a recurring debit posted to my account. I decided to go back and check my cancellation. Low and behold, there was an extra added step that you have to pay attention too. I just received the third recurring charge. I had to call my bank to have this stopped. Go to hell scribd. Oh! It's wrong that 1/2 stars are not available.
Hi Jay - A member of our support team can definitely look into this for you. Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
They give you a "trial" then they don't acknowledge your cancellation. So they just keep charging. I've been trying to cancel since December with no success. They don't answer phones and they make it impossible for you to contact them. STAY AWAY unless you like their service.
Hi there, we apologize for any confusion surrounding your subscription with us and we'd be happy to clarify your experience. To confirm, when canceling your subscription with us, you will immediately receive a confirmation email of the cancellation to your primary email address on file. If you did not receive this confirmation email from us -- then the subscription cancellation was not completed successfully. We go over this in detail in our cancellation guide, found here: https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134046-How-to-cancel-your-premium-membership
With that being said, we'd be happy to help with a cancellation and refund for you. While we don't offer phone support, our support team is more than happy to get this resolved for you quickly and efficiently via email. Please reach out to us at help@scribd.com if you haven't already and update your review with your ticket # so we can assist - thanks!
Scribd.com used to be a great website when you could download books and resources. Enter the New York Times, which called the website out in May in an article about books' being illegally uploaded. Since then, the site has become a dumping ground for college essays and second-rate novels. However, for my educator purposes, I can sometimes find good materials like activity books for the kids or resources about autism for Spanish-speaking parents.
Decided to turn to this website after several tickets on the Scribd website with no response still. I had a payment taken on the 23/5 through Paypal, my account still says I am a non member and can not continue to read any of the books I want to. Very frustrating customer service with no number to call? Ticket ID's: *******, *******,*******.
Hi Lauren - I'm so sorry for the delay in responding. I've personally taken over the ticket and issued a refund for your unexpected charge, which was from a duplicate account you created. If you have any other questions, please reply to the email I sent and I'm happy to keep helping!
Honestly stay away from this website. I got an Email back in March confirming that my subscription was cancelled. They alread took 9,99€ in April, Mai and June... And Juli is on it's way.
Wrote them an E-Mail, no reply. They say it can take up to a week to reply.
Support says they are in high demand right now... No wonders since they scam everybody.
Support ticket is #*******
Thanks for letting us know, Mario! We apologize for the ongoing charges and the delay! We cannot charge a deleted subscription, and we can confirm your account with the email MMeirolas1@gmail.com
was canceled back in March and has no recent charges. If you have a more recent charge, you likely have a duplicate account. So I can assist you, I responded on your ticket (#3440119). Get back to me there when you can so I can assist you. Thanks! -EC
After I cancelled the intial free subscription I have been billed each month without my permission. I hope others are contacting consumer affairs as I am.
This is a complete scam.
I have emailed 6 times but suprisingly no answers.
I will be contacting my bank to stop these unauthorised withdrawals from my account and to seek redress.
Brian New Zealand.
Hi Brian, I sent you a private message on SiteJabber on July 7th but have not heard back from you. We would really love to help with this, but will need to know the email address you wrote in with, or the ticket number you received. Once we have this info we can help get everything sorted out. On 6th May 17, for temporary authorization scribd debit $1 from my account, and same time credited it, but 9th June also scribd debit $8.99 automatically without my permission, I dont want to be with them, I just refund my amount. Please reply
Hi Pankaj. We are still waiting for your response for additional information to locate your account. Please check your email and response with requested information. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
Regarding your reply to my initial review - I do not believe your response details - if you had any integrity, you would immediately fix your cancellation procedure, and enable customers wishing to cancel their membership to do so immediately and completely!
Hello Sitejabber Team
Why have you deleted my initial review about scribd.com?
Since I responded to their reply, by posting an answer, my original review which would have contained their reply, has disappeared.
Regards
Sharon McIntyre

Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we will absolutely make sure that your subscription has been fully canceled and, if you've been charged, issue a refund. Thank you!
I don't have any idea how this site got a hold of my credit card, probably I thought I was getting a free trial for some manual I needed. But they learned how to lay low and keep charging your credit card, they never send an e-mail or an acknowledgement of any type. Sneaky, sleazy and Immoral.

Scribd has a rating of 1.1 stars from 882 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Scribd most frequently mention free trial, credit card and customer service. Scribd ranks 188th among Ebook sites.
As stated in our Subscriber Agreement here: https://bit.ly/32yAdXk, all accounts will be continuously charged monthly until you cancel. Additionally, our Refund Policy here: states, "You must contact us within 30 days of a charge for a refund". Providing refunds for more than one month is a one-time courtesy, and I am afraid we are not able to go any higher than that.
That said, I am truly so sorry for the frustration here. If you have more questions, let us know by responding to your email to support. Your agent will be happy to do what they can. Otherwise, thanks for your time and have a great day.
