Been a user for about 3 years now and I'm continually surprised by what I can find here, from mags, through books to audiobooks. All at a bargain price, half of ehat audible charges for 1 book a month.
Joined Scribd/Everand a month ago. Their "free trial" is not free. They charged my account twice within that 30-day free trial period...once after two weeks of the trial and then at the end of it. I canceled my subscription and notified my bank of the fraud. Not only am I disputing the charges but a Have had the bank remove the card from my account so they can't continue to steal from me. I had hoped this subscription would be good...it seemed so at first. Then, I found out that not only are they fraudulent in their charges but there's a limit on how many books you can read in a billing cycle. Initially, when you search online for a good ebook subscription, Everand seems like a good choice until you actually have to deal with them. The complaints about them outweigh the good reviews and all seem to have a common thread - deceptive business practices.
I canceled my membership on they same day i bought the free trial. But they keep charging me. Then after some months j noticed it on my credit card statement. I again canceled it like 5 times but they keep charging me. So i finally git a way to cancel it. The trick is they make ut look like we have cancelled the subscription but there is another button on the bottom which say continue cancellation it keeps happening for 4 or 5 times you have to make sure that there is no button down which say continue cancelling or still want to cancel and many more
I'm a college student. I casually signed up for a free trial one day to look at a book. I got sick with covid and forgot to cancel the subscription. I forgot about Scribd completely and didn't even realize I had a monthly subscription. I realized months later that scribd has been charging my credit card every month after I signed up for the free trial. The customer service rep told me she sees that I have not accessed the site since signing up for the free trial and that's too bad. She sent me screenshots of the fine print and essentially said piss off, she won't refund me my money that they took. They offer you a free trial hoping you forget about it so they can bill you afterward. The customer service I received was appalling. I'm not asking for a lot. I'm f*cking poor, just send me m money back.
Hi Jaclyn, we're sorry for the frustrating experience. We are unable to process refunds outside of our 30-day Refund Policy guidelines (https://support.scribd.com/hc/articles/210133986) due to limits that are set entirely by our payment processor's parameters. To put it simply, we are physically unable to access or edit transactions that are older than 30 days. We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes. However, we can confirm that your subscription has been canceled successfully and you will not be charged again as we cannot bill an account that's no longer rendering services with us. Thanks for your understanding here, and have a wonderful day!
My daughter received a 6 month subscription to Scribd. After looking at the collection of books, my husband and I were planning to get our own subscriptions. Then Scribd announced that they were making changes which would limit a subscriber to 3 books per month and 1 audiobook. People who had bought subscriptions based on unlimited books and 3 audios per month were now receiving a significantly worse deal. Having paid for one thing, Scribd changed the subscription terms in midstream. Also, the collection of books and audiobooks is now much more limited. Scribd was less than transparent in the weeks leading up to this change and would not provide straight answers to direct questions about thei policy changes. How could you trust a company that offers one deal and then unapologetically changes the deal the customer paid for!
I was excited when I found Sribd. Unlimited audiobooks for loan - the Netflix model. Terrific - I paid for a year. Unlike Audible, I wasn't buying the book so I could try it and if I didn't like it, I could just pick another- FABULOUS... except - the app is nothing but one glitch after the next. It loads slowly, doesn't bookmark well - endless problems. Then I receive a notice about changing to book credits (like Audible, but I won't own the book). If they need to change their terms of use then it needs to go into effect AFTER the year I paid for is expired. This is basic to contracts. Don't waste your money. It's a dishonest company.
I emailed twice, and submitted a ticket concerning a refund for an unused subscription for the month of February, it has been 22 days and I have heard no response. They promise a response within 3 business days. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE. They do not care about your time or satisfaction. They only want your money.
Hi Zaynab. We've received a higher than normal amount of emails recently and have been unable to respond as quickly as we'd like to. Please check your support ticket with more information regarding your refund. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! - Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I can't deactivate my account even though I've already cancelled my 30 days-free suscription. It shows this message: "You have an active membership to Scribd. Before you can delete your account, you must cancel your membership. Manage your membership".
I decided not to use the service thats why i'd like to deactivate my account, but i can't. I hope this doesn't mean they will charge me for an account i didn't use. My account name is Deresyu.
Tip for consumers:
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE.
Hi Dere. We've attempted to contact you with several messages and have not heard back. We need additional information to help us locate an account that is trialling 30-days. Please check your email and reply with the requested information. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
After paying for over a year and accumulating credit for books and audio books one fine day they logged me out of the account and could never log back in. It kept on saying wring password. When I clicked the forgot password link and reset my password I was logged in as a new customer with no credits! Now I can't log in again with the new password even! They have eaten away all my credits... they are thieves... STAY AWAY frim Scribd!
Hi Naveen! I'm sorry for the trouble here. Our support rep Ben has just sent you a reply to your ticket #1136360 and more information on how to access your account. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I'm surprised that such a well known company do this! I cancelled membership and still got charged! Emailed them a lot of times, still no reply! No receipt or notification when charged. I NEED A PROPER RESPONSE! Worst experience ever!
I did cancel the membership but still was charged and was totally surprised. Then i again attempted to cancel, and they are asking like 10 times if you wish to cancel and if you had missed it, probably you will be charged. I totally don't understand why cancellation needs to be so complex

Have tried more than onee to stop charges. They keep on submitting charges to my credit card,. The proverbably internet company from hell. Don't even think about using them. If they had a local office, I would have the opportunity to make my case in a more physical manner.
Hi Mark - I'm so sorry to hear this and I will absolutely resolve this for you. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com with ATTENTION JAMES in the subject line and I'll personally make sure we stop these charges and issue a refund. Thank you!
I got Scribd to read something. I thought it was cool for a free trial, but I really no longer need it. Please CANCEL MY ACCOUNT: Lupita. It says "Your membership was cancelled on 5/29/17 and will end on 6/28/17." I hope that doesn't mean I will continue to be charged. I also hope that the website will delete my credit card information from the system. I really have no time, energy or money for this to become a problem. Please contact me to ensure the account is cancelled: *******@gmail.com!
Hi Lupita. Thanks for writing in and providing your email. I've located your ticket and account. I've replied to your email with more information about your account and have deleted your credit card from our system per your request. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I cancelled my membership and deleted my card and it continued to charge my card for another two months and of coursed it charged my card today for another 1 month i deleted my account today but dont know what to do i see so many other people keep having this problem this is honestly absurd. Please email back at *******@gmail.com i just want my money back.
Hey there Isaiah! Our support team was able to locate your active subscription on a secondary account. It has now been canceled and your recent charge refunded. Feel free to reply to our email for further assistance. Thanks!
I subscribed for a trial in order to find a book that I did not and immediately cancelled my subscription so I would not be charged. To my surprise, I woke up with a 10.70$ charge, even though I tried to cancel the damn thing 3 times. I have opened a case with them, hopefully I will get a refund, because I did not even use the subscription and I their cancellation process is just horrible, you have to pay attention the fine print, after clicking the " cancel my subscription" button that takes you to a page where you have to click: " yes, I agree" and then to another page where you have to click " no, thank you, I don't want this subscription anymore" and so on and so forth. You are mmocking your customers with this process.
Hi Adina, we're sorry for the confusion. It sounds like this charge is related to a duplicate account or unsuccessful cancellation, as it is impossible for us to bill a canceled account. We'd be happy to look into this with you, so please email us at help@scribd.com and update your review with your ticket number. We'll follow up from there and make sure this gets taken care of for you. Thanks!
Just packed with malware; enter at your own risk. It seized my computer and rendered it useless. Even a forced shut down was prohibited and I had to disconnect the electrical source. Thanks to Norton, after I re-booted, all attempts to hijack my computer were thwarted even though I couldn't shut down my computer while scribd was running it's junk. Heed the Norton and McAfee warnings about this website.
I canceled my subscription last month and noticed i was charged once again on July 2nd, Very disappointed. I should have known this was a scam when i didn't receive an email when i cancelled. I have also tried to email this company on my occasions and their email address doesn't even work.
Thanks for contacting us here - I am so sorry for the trouble with this charge! I was able to review our system using the screenshot you provided and found your account. It seems it was not completely canceled, which is why you were charged again. That said, please do not worry! We are always more than willing to help with this.
I have refunded your last charge and canceled your account for you so you will not be charged again. You can use your old login information to sign in at any time to review your inactive account. You can also expect your payment returned in 3-5 business days. If you have additional questions about your account, feel free to email us at help@scribd.com and update here with your ticket number. Otherwise, thanks again for bringing this to our attention here, and have a great day!
I cancelled it a while back because I never ever used it and they really make it seem you did cancel it but they keep on with questions. I will never resubscribe and I don't recommend. They have nothing useful that's not already free.
Thank you for your feedback, we're sorry to hear Scribd was not the best fit for you! We're constantly growing and improving, and hope you'll check us out again in the future! If you'd like to email us at help@scribd.com, our team is happy to assist you with anything else. Thanks!
This service was great, until now. I am canceling tomorrow. They are including books I already read in to the three books per month, so if I want to review and read the books again they come out of the 3 books per week. I am going back to kindle, at least I owe the books I buy instead of throwing my money away.
I signed up for a free trial then cancelled it before the trial ended. I have not used the website at all yet I have been billed for a premium membership for 3 months. The website even stated that I no longer had a premium membership yet once i again I have been billed $8.99 per month. I deactivated my account about two weeks ago and I am still getting billed. They have the absolute worst customer service and there's no phone service.
Hi Felicity! I'm so sorry for the frustration here. I do see that our support rep Courtney did send you a reply regarding your account and your refunds on July 11,2016. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Be really wary about Scribd. I had to be very forceful in cancelling my one-month subscription. In order to cancel you have to keep clicking through page after page of them trying to weasel out of cancelling. Then - once you have forced them to cancel they will not even email confirmation of cancellation. Instead, they keep emailing unwanted and illegal spams about staying with Scribd.
Also - they have very very very few books available
Hi Peter! I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you had in canceling. We're always happy to help with canceling your subscription, and unsubscribing you from our email list. Just send us a message to help@scribd.com, or you can message me your account email address here. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Like many others, I've been scammed into monthly subscription of $8,99 every month. When I tried to cancel my subscription, there wasn't such an option in my account. When I tried to contact support, I got no response. I guess I have nothing left to do but announce to my bank that they are scammers and I need to block these payments on my bank level.
Hi Maria, I sent you a message on here on August 15, but have yet to hear back from you. I'm more than happy to assist you here but I will need to know the ticket number you received when you wrote in to us, or the email address you used when you wrote in. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I was a student when I first used scribd with the free trial. I canceled it and nothing. For the next 14 months, my credit card was drained. NO EMAIL, NO NOTHING that they were stealing my money. I opened support tickets(*******, *******) but the only thing was to refund two months from the total 14. OUTRAGEUS! I don't know why they do not solve this problem since that many people have it. They say that they want to solve it. But they just don't. Its frustrating!
A serious company would solve this issue for old and for the next customers.
Hi there - I'm so sorry to hear about your experience; I've replied to your comment on our Complains Board as well. We do have a 30-day refund policy. While I completely understand your frustration with this, we do send updates about your account to the email address we have on file (which is zmuzish**@*******. Com). As a courtesy, I've gone ahead and refunded another charge, making that 60 days past our refund policy. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send us an email to help@scribd.com. Thank you!
My wife just got charged the monthly membership starting February. She doesn't know the service. Has never used it. Never ever looked for the app in the play store (History proves that) and we had never logged in from any browser. On top of that there's not a single email from them (First one I've received it's the password reset, because OBVIOUSLY we didn't know the password.
What I DID found is a mail from Slideshare August last year announcing Scribd bought it from LinkedIn.
This bit is in that email: "As of that date, Scribd will manage your SlideShare account and any content you may have on SlideShare, and Scribd's General Terms of Use and Privacy Policy will apply. If you wish to opt out, please close your SlideShare account."
I'm moderately suspicious this is illegal, and I'll absolutely contact the corresponding authorities in my country.
Thank you for informing us! Please know, we cannot charge anyone who does not already have an active account. This means there must be an account somewhere in our system causing your wife's charges. That said, please do not worry! We have a team of experts who can absolutely help you out with this. To get in touch, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will assist you ASAP -EC
After I signed up for your trial, it now says I cant log in. You gotta be kidding me, you just sent me a confirmation email you! And no one is getting back at me with my ticket reportssssss! Support ticket #*******, support ticket #*******, support ticket #*******.
Thank you for reaching out here and we apologize for the delay in response from support. We located your tickets and we can confirm that your account has currently been blocked and you will not be charged in the future. Hi Jasu, we’re so sorry for any confusion here! Since we cannot bill a canceled subscription, it sounds like these charges might be originating from a duplicate account or unsuccessful cancellation. We’d be happy to investigate this and stop any further charges! Please email our support team at help@scribd.com and update your review with your ticket number so we can get this taken care of ASAP. Thanks!
