Been a user for about 3 years now and I'm continually surprised by what I can find here, from mags, through books to audiobooks. All at a bargain price, half of ehat audible charges for 1 book a month.

Joined Scribd/Everand a month ago. Their "free trial" is not free. They charged my account twice within that 30-day free trial period...once after two weeks of the trial and then at the end of it. I canceled my subscription and notified my bank of the fraud. Not only am I disputing the charges but a Have had the bank remove the card from my account so they can't continue to steal from me. I had hoped this subscription would be good...it seemed so at first. Then, I found out that not only are they fraudulent in their charges but there's a limit on how many books you can read in a billing cycle. Initially, when you search online for a good ebook subscription, Everand seems like a good choice until you actually have to deal with them. The complaints about them outweigh the good reviews and all seem to have a common thread - deceptive business practices.

Scribd hide unethical business practices behind small print, make direct contact difficult and take payments without your clear understanding or agreement. The worst business model on the internet.

This is scam! I signed up with them and bought a solution manual for my text book for 45 dollars. When I logged in through my ipad to view the solutions manual, it kept telling me that i am only viewing a preview, and I couldnt get access to the entire manual until i subscribed for 8.99 a month! I couldn't view a book i paid for! I tried emailing them several times, and today I tried logging on and it doesnt let me saying I have the wrong password. I use the same password for everything, so I know that cant be possible. So I click the "forgot password" and it says they will email me instructions to reset it. They never emailed me. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THEM!

THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! I EMAILED THEM SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, WITH NOT EVEN A BLIP OF A RESPONSE. THE LINK THEY SENT ME IN AN EMAIL THAT CONFIRMED MY MESSAGE IS A DEAD END. THEY ARE A TOTAL SCAMMER OPERATION. NO PHONE NUMBER, NO NOTHING! SUCH A LACK OF INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONAL ANYTHING! STAY AWAY!

Did the free trial and received no e-mail that they were about to start charging me as they stated they would. So I'm out 2 months with a product I never used. Needless to say I'm not happy.

I cancelled my free-trial subscription last October 04,2017 before they charge my account. But then as i'd checked my account balance via phone, my account was charge with an amount of $8.99 for the premium account (October 06,2017).

I couldn't believe that they still proceeded to charge my account. I WANT A REFUND ASAP!

Hi Brennon, I'm sorry for any confusion here. It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! I was charged for the last 9 months or so, $8.99 for a service I NEVER EVER USED because I didn't check my credit card statement as I should. There was NO number for me to call the company. When I emailed them asking for FULL REFUND and CANCELLATION, they never responded to my email. I emailed scribd a SECOND time, and again, no response. This company is underhanded, unethical and I wish someone would sue them for fraud. They are unethical and their customer service is deliberately elusive so that it remains impossibly difficult for ANYONE to contact them (there is no number to call). Awful, awful company which should be ashamed and I am going to write on every review site and let everyone know they should NEVER be trusted with their credit card. Try Amazon and other services instead. STAY AWAY! Never do business with them. I wish I could given them ZERO stars, one star is too charitable for being one of the most unethical, swindling companies to exist in recent memory.

I had a problem with a free trial, after contracting their support they returned the money and made things right. 1 star down for that incident but 4 up for their customer care.

I tried SCRIBDs free trial and canceled when it was over. It seemed everything worked out fine until two months later when I received a notification from my CC that a monthly recurring charge from SCRIBD has been approved!
The charge is for the month ahead, so I canceled my subscription only to be notified by SCRIBD that my membership will be canceled after the next month is past with no mention of refunding the illegetimate charge already made to my card.
I immediately demanded a full refund and immediate cancellation of membership. I was notified my request has been sent to support with a response forthcoming within 3 days. My charge on my CC is still pending and I am unable to dispute it until it is approved which I have been informed may take up to three days.
Reading some of the reviews here it is no wonder this company is losing potential members by the droves. I list this company right down there with another scam, Freedompop.

Tip for consumers:
Pay heed to the negative reviews you read here. If you try their free trial and decide not to keep it you may end up spending your time writing one yourself.

Products used:
I downloaded a few books during the trial period (can't remember their titles as of this moment) but SCRIBD does indeed charge your card without prior notice and apparently keep your information for future charges. Every negative review I have read here is exactly as I have experienced.

I found charges from this company appearing on my bill last month. I never signed up for Scribd. They have no customer service phone number. I have been working with customer service, via email, provided all of the banking information they have requested. Since I don't have the email address associated with an account, they can't find the account. Of course I don't have an email associated with an account, I NEVER SIGNED UP FOR AN ACCOUNT! Today, I find another charge on my account. Still can't get any help from customer service...

I tried their site for the free month and read only one article that was not helpful, and I sent them an email saying I did not wish to continue but they have been charging my card ever since and ignore and requests and never reply I thing it is a total SCAM stay away and report them

I never signed up for Scribd and have been charged nearly $50 over the past 5 months. Paid by my Paypal account which I use very rarely and thus don't really keep an eye on. NO EMAILS WHATSOEVER FROM SCRIBD INDICATING CHARGES OR THAT I SIGNED UP FOR THE SERVICE. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A SCAM AND PERHAPS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS THE WAY TO PUT AN END TO THIS.

My payment card has expired, but for a month now, I haven't been able to update my payment details. I've had about 7 support tickets, some of them claiming the issue has been "resolved". It hasn't.

My experience with Scribd has been appalling, only use this service if you want to be robbed.

I have numerous complaints:
1. Not obvious or easy to cancel the subscription
2. After cancelling the subscription Scribd continued to take money from my account,
3. After contacting them regarding the money being taken despite the fact that I had cancelled the subscription, they STILL DIDN'T STOP TAKING MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT
4. After finally getting ONE payment back as a 'refund' this was not for the amount that was actually taken from my account, I am still left out of pocket.

This is a scam, steer clear

I tried to download a document, and it said that I need to upload 5 documents to be able to download the one I wanted. After uploading all five, it jumped to another web which shows not working. I went back and then it said to upload 3 documents. I did so and the same thing happened again. Then when I went back again it said to upload 1 document... Well, then I realized that I was scammed. This web got all the doc I uploaded and I gained nothing. Well well well... Now I just want to know how to report it :)

ScribD has the WORST customer service when you are trying to unsubscribe or rectify an issue! I signed up for a "free trial," was charged anyway, I fought with them about it but they refused to refund me. But that's not the big issue, the issue is that they take SO LONG to respond (days turns into weeks!). So since I was charged for an additional month, the responses to rectify the issue took the WHOLE MONTH and I didn't get to use their service. So I basically paid for a month for NOTHING. Their responses are often nonsensical and come from different customer service agents who are NOT reading the history of the conversation repeating things. VERY FRUSTRATING and I let them know several times to please read the thread before responding. I told them that they are the worst and I don't even care about the money any more but I'll make sure to warn everyone about their shenanigans!

Tip for consumers:
If you need to contact customer service, prepare for delays on responses and blanket answers to questions.
