Been a user for about 3 years now and I'm continually surprised by what I can find here, from mags, through books to audiobooks. All at a bargain price, half of ehat audible charges for 1 book a month.
Joined Scribd/Everand a month ago. Their "free trial" is not free. They charged my account twice within that 30-day free trial period...once after two weeks of the trial and then at the end of it. I canceled my subscription and notified my bank of the fraud. Not only am I disputing the charges but a Have had the bank remove the card from my account so they can't continue to steal from me. I had hoped this subscription would be good...it seemed so at first. Then, I found out that not only are they fraudulent in their charges but there's a limit on how many books you can read in a billing cycle. Initially, when you search online for a good ebook subscription, Everand seems like a good choice until you actually have to deal with them. The complaints about them outweigh the good reviews and all seem to have a common thread - deceptive business practices.
Hey, i'm just a little skeptical and frustrated because you guys charged me for an unauthorized payment and didn't give me a notice about it, i only just found out about it today when i sifted through my scribd emails to check when my free trial was ending only to find out you guys had taken my money without atleast notifying me a few days before of my membership ending. I want to receive help asap because i need my money to pay for ACTUAL necessities. Ticket #*******. I'd like it escalated.
If you are a creator of any content, scribd allows anybody to post it, and profits from it without any right to do so. Then the author and copyright holder, has to chase down each link and try to get it removed from the website. Years of work shamelessly stolen from thousands of creators. That's what scribd is...
Hi Robert - We apologize for any confusion here, and we'd be happy to provide some clarification.

Required document was incomplete and outdated. Despite 30 day free subscription the $8.99 charge was made immediately to credit card. Steps to cancel subscription requires repeated input to stop subscription with no real assurance the subscription has been indeed cancelled. It was a mistake to connect with this service.
Hi there, That sounds like the verification transaction that is explained in the confirmation email you received upon sign up. It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! Our support team can confirm this for you, as well as your cancelation, if you could send us an email to help@scribd.com with your account email address. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I had signed up for a free trial and then $3.99 per month offer. After the free trial ended my account was charged $87.00. I emailed and have received no response. I'm going to have to go through my credit union and dispute the charge and then cancel my debit card. This is ridiculous. I need my money
Tip for consumers:
Don't use this site
Hi Jayla! I'm so glad we were able to resolve this issue and get that charge refunded for you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via support@scribd.com. Thanks again! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Service
I have never heard of this company and keep getting chargesome on my credit card for $8.99. Not once, but multiple charges in this amount. My credit card company would flag them as suspicious, reissue me a new card with a new card number but somehow they get my new number and recharge my card. I suspect they have some kind of mining software that collects credit card numbers and charges them hoping the owner doesn't check their statement. This company is a complete SCAM.
Hi Cynthia! We've just replied to your support ticket requesting more information in order to locate the charges in our system. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I've been trying to contact Scribd for about a month now about charges that have dated back to 2014. It's my fault for just noticing, but I assumed once I canceled my account that the charges would stop. I was wrong and I'm paying for it now (literally). When I first complained, they refunded my account $8.99. Three days later, they charged me again. When I tried to get in contact with them again about the charges, they ignored me. Still waiting to hear back.
Hi Emma, Our support manager has replied to your ticket with your refund information. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I subscribed to a $47.99 membership August 31, I cancelled in the same day and haven't received any refunds or emails back. My help desk requests say "solved", but what does that mean? I sent multiple emails and no replies back. I want my $47.99 back.bi wouldn't recommend scribd to no one. This is ridiculous.
Hi Jaylynn, I'm so glad to see that this has been resolved by my colleague April. If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to us at help@scribd.com. Thanks again! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I was online researching on certain information and bumped into the Scribd website. It touted 30-day free subscription so I thought I would give it a try to see what I could find. However, immediately after signing up the account, my credit card got charged the monthly fee of $8.99. When I used the customer service to send an email to complain, I received a response stating that a customer service person would get back to me in 6 business hours. It has been more than 3 business days and nothing has happened. Yesterday, I went to my account to cancel the account. Not only that it took me quite some efforts to find the way the effectuate cancellation of the account, but also, after the cancellation being acknowledged on the record, I was not able to unsubscribe the advertisement email. It would keep stating that I had to cancel the account before I could unsubscribe. What a shame business operation!
Hi Yee-Horn! We've replied to your ticket #1188616 with information about that verification transaction. Thanks so much! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I used Scribd last August and canceled within the trial period - or so I thought. I was going to sign up again today, and got a message that my payment can't be processed bc my card expired last month. I looked in my account and I have been getting charged for the past 7 months.

They said they would send an email before the trial ended and did not. When I tried to get on to the site to cancel, I could not get on the site and had to call my bank to stop future payment. I will be watching closely for future unauthorized charges.
We apologize if you did not receive a notification email and our support team is available to help with cancelations and refunds. To email us directly, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will assist you within 24 hours -EC
I signed up for a free trial. I canceled my free trial the SAME DAY because everything worth reading was listed as "Available On Placeholder Date". Additionally, the book preview was UNREADABLE as the text all runs together. What good is a book service that doesn't have content and is illegible? So I canceled my account and never returned after never reading anything.
I got charged anyway! I put in a support ticket. They never replied to my support ticket. Guess what? They deleted my account instead! Never notified me they were deleting my account. Just took my money and ran. Luckily I used an American Express who already gave me my $9 back and will be blocking future charges.
Attached Photos:
1) Illegible Text
2) Trying to sign up, told my account exists. Entering my password via password manager, told no account found. Using login I was told "no account exists" either.
Tip for consumers:
Avoid. Stick to Amazon.
Hi Stephanie, this definitely doesn't sound right at all. We'd love the opportunity to take a second look at this and hopefully turn things around for you. Since you had mentioned having written in already, could you please provide your support ticket number? Scribd is a TERRIBLE company. I downloaded just one document back in january and I thought I would only be charged $10, but they charged me each month totalling to $60 and they will not refund the extra charges even though it was clear that "recurring monthly member" was very fine print that I did not see and considering that I didn't make any more downloads after that. It's clear that nobody would intentionally pay each month for a service they don't use. Scribd should respect their customers and do what's right and fair, not being a thief like they are now.
It tells you you can download as many titles as you like but then it decides that no, it only wants you to have access to some of them in full and you have to wait a month to access what they then deem you can. Ridiculous. Also, you can't keep the books you've downloaded. Rubbish. I'm told someone also received spam. And be careful when cancelling as they make you jump through many many hoops. Stay away.
Hi Vivien, we'd like to get more detail on the difficulties you've experienced with your titles and the cancelation process with us so we can try to help clarify a few things, as well as confirm that your account has been canceled. From the sound of your review, it sounds like you may have already reached out to us. Can you please update this review with the support ticket number you received when emailing us? Our support team is always more than happy to answer any questions you may have for us and provide assistance as needed. Thanks!

I unfortunately have not been paying enough attention to my credit card statements. Now that I have I see that for at least the last 6 months this company has been charging me $8.99 a month. I had never heard of this company until I found the changes. And I have absolutely no recollection of ever signing up for any type of service. Now it is impossible to contact them to make certain this reoccurring charge stops. There is no phone number for customer service. Everything is email. I emailed and have yet to hear back. I want a phone number to speak to a human being and I want a refund of all monies taken without my consent. I agree 100% with the other reviews - this website site is a fraud. I'd tell you to avoid it at all costs but apparently that doesn't even work as I had never visited it and they have taken money from me for six months. Something needs done to stop this
Hi Peggy! I can see that our support representative Nikki was able to resolve this issue for you via live chat. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
My fault for not seeing this monthly charge but they are thief's! Signed up and canceled the same day and they continue to charge me. I cant get in touch with them for a refund and they dont reply to any messages. STAY WAY!
Reported as fraud to my credit card company.
Hi Andre - It may be your subscription is still active, and we'd be happy to help. After emailing us at help@scribd.com, update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
I emailed scribed 3 times for the wrong charge issue and every time they sent an email saying that someone will contact me within one business day. I am still waiting for that one business days even after 3 reminders and 28 days but they do not care about you. Worst customer support! Actually no customer support at all. My ticket is open but no one is doing anything about that.
Hi Poonam, it looks like we replied to your support ticket with more information regarding your refund. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! - Donni, Scribd Customer Support

I used Scribd for a few months, then cancelled my membership after it was no longer needed. It's been two months since I cancelled and they charged my card yesterday. I logged into my account and it says my membership expired last month. Stay away from this company, as they will charge you after you have cancelled!
Hi Chelsea! It sounds like you might have a second subscription registered with us. We are more than happy to help you with this. Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
I unsunscribed to Scribd but still membership money was deducted from my account. So I deleted the account but still the money keeps on deducting every single month. A very cheap malpractice done by Scribd. I have contacted the support and got support ticket #*******. But still no action have been performed yet. As an attorney I will be taking serious action against this SCAM by Scribd. And I will make sure to include each person had suffered losses by this SCAM.
Hi there, we're so sorry for any confusion with your membership and our cancellation process. Didn't like the app to begin with. Cancelled. And these $#*! faces have charged me for three months. You can't talk to anyone to help you even if you liked the program, let alone if you need something. Dislike scribd with a passion.
Hi Krystal, Our system cannot charge on a canceled account. Our support team would love to take a look at your account and to assist with a refund. Please email us at help@scribd.com. If you've done so, please reply here and let us know the ticket number you received when you wrote in. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I use to love Scribd! I could download as many books that I wanted. I felt like it was like Netflix only with books, but now it's telling me how many books I can download. If I am paying $8.99 a month I should be able to have unlimited access. I am going back to Kindle Unlimited and pay the extra $1.00
This is a terrible company, they steal your money and they continue to charger you even after you have cancelled the subscription. I have attempted cancelling my credit card, canceling my subscription through apple and the scribd website, I've called my back to get the charges blocked and they still some how manage to charge me. No matter what I do I get charged for a membership that I get no use out of. It says that I have no active subscriptions with their company and YET I'm still being charged. It's criminal and it is unacceptable. Also they won't return your attempts to contact them.
Hi Blair, I'm so glad that our Support Rep Nikki was able to clear things up for you and issue those refunds for you. We're always available via email at support@scribd.com, and we are in the office Monday-Friday 9am-5pm PST. Please do let us know if you have any other questions or concerns via ticket #1081613. Thanks! -Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
They tell you unlimited but not all books. After 2 or3 books I am limited till a particular date for favorite books or others. There are a list but very limited during this time. I feel it is not worth it if you listen to more titles per month. They say you can cancel auto renewal but only if you end the current subscription.
Please feel free to email us at help@scribd.com with any questions or concerns, our support team is more than happy to assist you. Thanks!
I am very unhappy with the lack of response when I wrote about unauthorised charges. I have cancelled my membership 3 months ago and am still being charged! After multiple emails, they have still not responded! They do not have a number to call. I need a refund!
Hi Maryann - I'm so sorry to hear about this! Did you send an email to help@scribd.com? If so, can you please reply to this with your ticket number? Thank you!
I subscribed for a free trial and did not use it at all. After 2 weeks of not using it I wanted to cancel my subscription. On my account it tells me I do not have any subscription and no credit card on file, so I couldn't cancel it. I was getting charged every month. Finally, I contacted technical support and got an answer to delete the account. I followed provided steps, deleted account, but they are continuing charging me. Looks like I will need to contact my credit card company. I can not deal with it anymore.
Hi Oksana - Apologies for the troubles, a member of our support team can definitely help you with this! Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
