While the staff at the Naperville, IL store are very helpful, the website and customer service are terrible. I ordered a dress last year and the delivery date was pushed out 3 times. I cancelled the order since it was a Summer dress and wouldn't arrive until late Fall. I also returned a few items because they were not at all like they appeared on line or in the catalog - cheaply made. I sent all the returns back in separate packages weeks ago and so far only one item has been credited back. Although the website states packages will arrive via FedEx, they are actually routed to the US Post Office, which takes much longer than originally stated on the website. I may buy from the store direct in the future, but will definitely NOT purchase through the website/catalog.
I started ordering from Soft Surroundings about 10 years ago. Their styles were trendy and breathtaking. I loved them. I don't remember any problems with my early orders. Their prices were always high but the clothing was quality and has lasted over the years. CUSTOMER SERVICE has become the problem, they have none now, read nearly every review and it's about customer service, shipping and them canceling. If you have all the money, time and low expectations in the world order from them, their products are beautiful and unique. But beware of all the other things mentioned in these reviews. Everything that is said is accurate to the best of my knowledge and experience..
I had ordered two or three times from the catalog and was very pleased with the clothing and the silk pillowcases. A few months ago I tried to order from a sale catalog and everything single item that I wanted was not available- so I waited until the next sale catalog came out and ordered 5 items. The quality was very very poor (knits were extremely loose; fabrics very thin), and I then realized that this is WHY they were on sale! (the top that I have on right now-not a knit - I very gently tried to straighten it out and my thumb went through it!) Also, most items in the catalog are described as "washable" - I am finding that they mean "HAND washable" for just about every one! I was absolutely astounded at the shipping charge (all were very very light pieces) and then the $18+ tax added on! Way way too much for what I received. Doubt that I will order again and will probably give some of the items to Goodwill. I do NOT want the hassle of returning anything!
I ordered summer pants after I got their catalogue. The site said they would not be available until August 29. Seriously? Who needs summer pants after August 29. Their excuse was that the catalogue is printed months before the items become available. What does that have to do with anything? Don't print what you don't have or expect to have in a timely manner. Dealing with their customer service from the Philippines is an exercise in frustration. Barely comprehensible.
Also, quality of their items has seriously declined.
I waited months for an item that I ordered. I eventually received an email stating they couldn't deliver it. I asked for a substantial discount to be used on a future order to make up for the inconvenience. The customer service representative only offered me 10%. Not even free shipping. They send me emails at least once a month offering 30,40, sometimes even 50% off. When I insisted they could do better than 10% she just blew me off with "Sorry, no." The long wait and then the customer service experience left me with a negative feelings toward Soft Surroundings.
Blouse fabric was very rough - poor quality. If you purchase and need to return, do not use their prepaid address label since they charge way more than the post office would charge. They don not refund quickly, and they shorted me. 63 on the refund. I won't be ordering from them again.
I impatiently weighted for Soft Surroundings to come to my town. When they finally opened their store, it was a BIG disappointment. The material of clothes is very cheap. Their clothes are cut for one type of body build only-- tall, slim, long necked women. Even their petite sizes fall in the above category. Their clothes are worse than Macy's maybe at the level of JC Penney. I went there many times with the hope to like and buy something. Never found anything that would fit me. I do my shopping at Anthropologie and they have clothes for literally every body. I was hoping Soft Surroundings would be a less expensive version of Anthropologie. What a disappointment... I better spend 2X more in stores that offer quality that buying the trash that this store offers. Ah, another thing is that they offer exactly the same items multiple seasons. It is really strange.
My last order included two expensive tops, both of which are made with poor quality fabric. The worst one has been worn three times and and has to be thrown away because the fabric has a lot of pilling. It has been laundered wrong side out on the gentle cycle and laid flat to dry.
This is a terrible company. I started to try to place an order on Black Friday but could not manage to get the advertise price for my on line order. I called Customer Service who also did not understand how to fix the obvious problem. They promised I would get a call back within 24 hours. No call back. The problem still existed Cyber Monday so I called the main office. A nice woman was able to get me the advertised price. However, almost two weeks later the clothes have still not arrived. I called again and was told my order would not be delivered for several more days. This was a real problem for me as I would be out of town for almost a week when it is now scheduled for delivery and the package would be sitting on my doorstep. I was told to go to the post office and put a hold on my mail! I will never order from them again; they are more trouble than they are worth.
I wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I ordered. Lovely clothing if you ever receive it. I wanted a dress for a wedding, but the couple is back from their honeymoon and no dress or other tops I ordered have arrived. Don't know why they waste money sending out their catalogue if they do not have the merchandise. I will not order again.
Answer: I would have said, forget it. Their service is very slow, both receiving and especially returning. Plus the shipping to you is high and then you pay a terrible amount to return it. I won't buy from them again. Linda.

Answer: There is obviously a valid reason that there are NO reviews of items on their website. And that's because the overwhelming satisfaction rate of most customers is horrible! Save your time and headache, and skip this company over.
