We rented a Uhaul and planned on using our family and friends to do the move for us. Have a few failed attempts at moving 2 pieces lol... We desperately searched for a local mover to provide us with labor considering we already had the Uhaul truck. The first company we found online was Old Fashion Moving & Storage. After speaking with Jonathan he explained exactly how they would wrap our furniture & pack our truck for us. I regretted not calling them sooner considering they were going to be more cost effective than me even renting the Uhaul in the first place. Not only was my family in awe how effortlessly they moved everything in our home, but they also offered to drive our truck down to D. C from Connecticut. I cannot say enough great things about Old Fashion Moving & Storage and the customer service that Jonathan provided. We are set on moving for awhile lol but in the case any my family in Connecticut needs to move I already know who to refer (also if theyre interested in moving us down to Florida in 3 years we would absolutely use them again!) Anyways 5 star service from this (Jonathan, Ricky & Matt). I felt obligated leaving this review after the move considering how much stress it took off of us. Go check them if you need any help! wwwoldfashionmoving.com *******844
This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. We rented a storage facility at a premium price for a climate controlled inside unit. I was told that my items would be protected from the heat and I trusted them. When we moved our tems out last month, bugs were everywhere. Inside boxes, large and small. The unit had holes with light coming through everywhere. So that took away any climate controlling. Wooden furniture was damaged from the heat and humidity from monsoon activity. Artwork was damaged from all the same conditions. After 2 weeks of promises from manager Javier that he would take care of it, he finally directed me to their insurance company. After several days went by I was informed they declined to do anything as I chose not to pay extra for their insurance. And was told they basically take responsibility for absolutely nothing that happens at their facility, even though they didn't fulfill their end of the contract.
I will never use Uhaul again and if you value your posessions, you should never use their storage unit. You might as well store your things outside. At least it would be free. It cost me $2400 and my stuff got ruined there.
It is not worth the savings with UHaul because your "reservation" is not really a reservation, and they will give your boxes away, no matter how far in advance you reserve them. I wish I had hired a more expensive competitor.
I used the Ubox service to ship two containers cross country and reserved my boxes three months ahead of time. The traffic control manager gave them away on the morning of the reservation, and I almost missed the window with moving help that I had hired in advance. There was no apology from UHaul, only attitude from the traffic control manager. I managed to hire more emergency help last minute to get boxes from a different location and drove and loaded them myself. Terrible experience right before driving across the country. No one at UHaul ever apologized for the poor service, and they passed off responsibility from one office to the next. They then delivered the boxes a month late with no apology, so we lived in our new house for a month with nothing.
Moving is always stressful, but U-Haul made the experience far worse than it needed to be. I will not be using any of their services again in the future. I recommend Penske or Budget as I've had better experiences with both during past moves. I felt scammed by UHaul at the end of all this.
My truck was ordered AND confirmed to a different location than where it was actually located to pick up. One of the front desk girls was highly unprofessional and having a personal conversation with the girl who was checking me out... She was using extremely offensive vulgar language in front of me including the words "$#*! up" and "going ape$#*!" on someone.
Upon returning my truck, the store was busy and chaotic. I was instructed by the girls to "just leave the keys on the counter and we will manage all return trucks". Which I did. Upon receiving my bill, I had about $97 of extra, unexplained charges. After chatting with a Uhaul representative, it appeared that the odometer was not updated after my return and I was charged about 250 extra miles that I DID NOT USE.
I've been attempting to reach out and resolve this for days now and no one at Uhaul has reached out to me as they said they would. Each time you call or get transferred to a different department, it's about a 20-30 minute wait each time. If anyone needs to move anything, please send your business elsewhere and save yourself the headache.
I feel bad for the smaller businesses that rent out U-Haul's equipment. The individuals at those businesses are so kind and helpful, whereas U-Haul customer representatives lack any customer service training. After driving 14 hours and having a reservation booked and confirmed at my destination for pickup at 8:00pm, it took over an hour to even LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT. The website literally does not function at all - I'm not sure if there are bugs or technical issues, but they NEED to be addressed. I had a very similar, and horrific, experience about 4 years ago trying to use these services and I am mad myself for evening attempting to use them again. After scrambling with phone calls, websites, pictures and documents for an hour, we were finally sent the lockbox access code. It was wrong! Yep! It didn't work on any of them. We gave up. Then when we called for help from home, we were placed on a 20 minute wait and then put on the phone with another representative that had no idea who we were or what was going on. Despite all of this, I was still charged IN FULL for the truck that I was never even able to pick up. If you value your happiness and peace, you WILL NEVER use these services. Of any sort. Just skip it and go somewhere else - it's not worth it. Surprised they are still in business.
So I rented a trailer In fact the person that reserved my rental reserved the wrong trailer but there was one available at an off turn off location And then I tried to talk to someone up is someone about my refund or my payments and the person on the phone at customer service through u-haul told me that I had to talk to the location I got it from well then this morning this morning I was getting emails from someone at u-haul saying that there's nothing they can do Right there shows that u-haul likes to lie to their customers and are not Company that they say they are considering this lady on the phone told me that that refunding my money after an issue was up to the location I got the trailer from The lady that started emailing me today even told me that she listened to the phone call and that her representative even told me it's up to the location but there's still nothing they can do
Renters beware: Uhaul has in its fleet trucks with faulty gas tanks. The tanks won't fill past a half tank and it's unclear whether the problem with the gas line is dangerous. I know firsthand because I rented a truck for this location (San Mateo and Montgomery in Albuquerque) for a one-way, long distance move to coastal CA. Before checking out, I specifically asked the Uhaul rep at this location whether the truck had been looked over mechanically, as I couldn't afford any problems on my 1200-mile drive across the Mojave desert in hot temps. I was assured the truck had been looked over. Approximately 1.5 hours west of Albuquerque on I-40 I quickly learned there was a problem with the tank, when the truck would take more $150 in gas and would trigger each gas terminal to automatically shut off when the gauge reached 1/2 tank. Uhaul's customer service line was friendly, but the only option offered was to detour from my trip for a day or more while the truck was repaired. I pushed for a more reasonable resolution since I was now losing money and time after having to stop twice as much. This issue with the truck stretched a 17.5-hour drive to 24 hours and resulted in me having to stop every 1.5 to 2 hours. Getting compensated for this negligence has been exhausting, as Uhaul plays games and refuses to take responsibility.
Your takeaway: Rent from Penske. A little more expensive, but a much more professionally run business with a better fleet. If you have no choice in vendors, make Uhaul prove to you there are no issues with the tank.
Worst rental experience ever! Made reservation online and local dealer said even though the tank is full and I plan to only drive 20 miles or less I still have to top it off. The dealer acknowledged I did not opt for the Collision Waiver at $10.00. Thankfully, I made a printout as they billed the $10.00 anyway. When the vehicle was dropped off the U-Haul dealer said it's not him and I have to fight it out directly with U-Haul corporate! The mileage in was also inaccurate and corporate asked if I had a photo of the mileage in. I told them I took a photo of the mileage out and I didn't know I would be conducting business with an unscrupulous dealer and rental company. I waited 30 minutes for corporate online and then the representative said I have to hold while he speaks with the dealer. I waited for over (20) twenty plus minutes on hold and then I hung up. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. I thought the local dealer was bad until I dealt with corporate customer service. It's like they say, the fish stinks from the head down.
If u haul had a negative number scale I would give them a neg 10 rating. First of all the price they gave me on the phone was way lower than it was at pickup due to "hidden taxes and insurance and environmental service" charges. Ok I gave them the address where I was going to. They emailed me a pickup location and drop off location. Everything went smoothly with the exception of the extra charges until I check my bank account and see where they charged me an extra separate charge of $18.62 for going over my mileage. How is that I asked bc I picked up the truck where they told me to and went exactly where I told them I was going and then immediately returned their truck to where they told to. No more or no less. They stated when I called customer service that I should have read my contract and seen where I had a 30 mile limit. I stated that no y'all should have known how far I was going bc I had to give the address I was going and rented me the equipment I needed for that price. The customer service representative was very rude and hung up the phone on me. She would not let me state my complaint bc she kept talking over me as if I was dumb. I will carry every piece of furniture or whatever I am moving the next time I need a moving truck before I rent anything from u haul ever again. They suck! I hope this helps.
I booked a 26 ft U-Haul by phone a week in advance.
They sent me an email which gave me a date, time of pick-up, and address to get my truck.
I had 6 volunteers come to help me move a 4-bedroom, 4 bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and Games room townhouse.
I went to pick up my truck: no truck.
None available. Anywhere (end of the month).
I had to send everybody home.
U-Haul found a 15ft truck for me the next day.
I moved on the hottest day in recorded history with one helper (65yrs old), doing numerous trips (instead of one), storing property at different locations (moving material out of town - could not do it all in one trip).
I complained to a rep at U-Haul: I was told that someone would call me back.
Next day, someone did: they offered me $50. I was told that was all I was getting. When I checked the time of payment of the $50, it was sent before the person even spoke to me. The conversation with me was pointless. I will never use a company that treats me as if I am insignificant.
I recommend everyone to take a pic of your starting mileage as well as ending as I was just screwed out money from these clowns. They charged me more miles than actually driven which was only a measly 10 miles to move 1 load to storage. I figured that the 10 miles would justify a gallon of gas used in the truck which o put on as I always do after a rental with these asshats. I was also charged for 3 gallons of gas@ $5 per gallon in which it has never ever reached 5 bucks a gallon in my 47 years on this planet in the state of North Dakota so I was fully taken advantage of on this transaction & will NEVER use this fraudulent $#*!ing company again or ever recommend them to anyone because of this bull$#*!. STEER CLEAR OF THESE $#*!TARDS PEOPLE!
Horrible. U haul is having me drive 50 miles to pick up truck. No warning. I called 2 days ahead. U haul thinks nothing of this. Not my fault. Not my problem. No more u haul.
I rented 8 U-Boxes, the quote I was given was $1,000 less than the final price for transportation. I was told not to reserve transportation until it was time to transport. When I called to schedule transportation I was told there was no record of my previous call or quote and they would not honor the price I was given. Then I was told the location where my Ub-boxes were being shipped does not have a truck to get the U-Boxes to my house and I need to unload each U-box at their facility and transport my belongings to my house, which defeats the purpose of U-boxes. Or I hire a third party company for $1,500 to move my U-Boxes.
Every time you call Uhaul it sends you to a different call center. They give you "local" numbers to call but those numbers send you to a call center. Every time I have called I have had to wait 50 minutes and still have not connected me to the local Uhaul facility or a manager to discuss.
AVOID UHAUL AT ALL COSTS!
I made a reservation 10days before I need it they fail to have the equipment for the day need it also I was forced to rent A bigger truck for an extra 60 dllrs caused that's all they have plus they offered a month of storage free with my oneway rental I ended paying for 123 dlls even do plenty unit's available
05/9/2022 at 9:30 am I attempted to rent a uhaul trailer at 1402 Montgomery Hwy Dothan Al for a couple hours and had what I feel was a racist front desk clerk named Ashley serve me the she doesn't a bad customer service review on me because I wanted a trailer that I was told was available. She was extremely unprofessional and rude but was friendly to the white lady in front of me
Several issues in gettin a hitch installed. Rec'd a quote and reservation with several mistakes. Quote was for a Buick my vehicle was a Chevy Traverse. Had products listed that I specifically told them I already had.
Another issue, I needed to reach the location that actually had my vehicle. To tell them not to perform what was on the erroneous quote. In addition, a major hail storm was heading our way and I needed to see if was inside or outside of the building. Spoke to reps via 800 # starting at 9am but no one ever returned my call. Was told they were busy helping other customers. No one available to call me back from 9am until 3:30? Unacceptable! Especially since they had my car.
When I arrive to pickup my car the woman associate was filing her nails right next to a phone. Guess that's why she never called me, too busy with her nails. The final straw was when I found out they couldn't do the install.
We specifically took it to them the day prior to making the reservation to ask them to look to make sure there was no problem that would prevent them from installing it. Was told everything looked great. No problem they said. When I asked why they didn't catch it the day before the manager proceeds to tell me that his employee didn't know what all he was suppose to look at. INCOMPETENCE ALL EVERY LEVEL!
The place where I picked up was great, the contact there was helpful. BUUUUT Uhaul as a company is GARBAGE! I spent an hour and a half on the phone trying to get the truck I had reserved and some help from movers, because when I went to pick up the truck it wasn't there. As a result, I missed the timeframe that a friend was going to help me move furniture into the truck. He was no longer able to help due to the fact that I was delayed a few hours and had to drive elsewhere to get the truck, then drive to another location to pick up the car tow and then back to the first place to get my car. Uhaul did not help with finding or paying for movers and instead gave me the run around on the phone as they put me on hold and had me talk to someone else. I will NEVER use their services again!
I reserved a storage unit a week in advance with u haul. After receiving the renting confirmation email I called them, making sure I was so good to go. They told me I was all set and just to come in at least 30 min before closing on my moving day. I went first thing in the morning and I was told that they didn't have the storage unit I reserved. No explanation, no help. They said they couldn't help, which seemed strange at the beginning, considering it was THEIR mistake (my booking was legit and they could see it) But true to their words, THEY DIDN'T HELP AT ALL! Basically didn't give a s**t, told me I could just pay for the next size up (which was 65$ + tax! For 1 foot more than what I booked) or just... Or just that, no other option, no solution. No discount on the next available size for THEIR mistake, no apologies. It was terrible, I was exhausted and baffled, got to be the worst customer service I ever had. The staff called the manager, but they also refused to help. Basically told the staff to charge us the full price or just ignore us! So after one hour with no solution and have been told "there were nothing they could do" they just completely ignored us. We are now left on moving day with no storage to move to! How is that even possible U haul?! Absolutely shameful
I rented a U-Haul from Minnesota to oklahoma with a car trailer and it was 200$ security deposit for the truck and 60$ for the trailer and I never got the security deposits back in fact I was charged 120$ more upon return of the truck and trailer
Looking up uhaul truck rentals and go to their site. Started the process of reserving a truck and got to the end and it requires a card. But for people who do not have cards should be able to hit a button cash payment and that should be considered a reservation. I get to the closest (walking distance) by 7:20am and now it says all booked. NOT FAIR, I CANT WALK MILES AND MILES to get a truck.
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
