I went to pick up a Uhaul van rental in Newport KY on 7-18-21, a Sunday, and it required a mobile pick up since they didn't have anyone working. When trying to log in on my phone, it would not accept my password. I tried resetting, but could not get it to process. It took 45 minutes to get a customer service rep on the phone, as I finally was able to process the check out. When I returned the van, another customer was having a problem with the process. As I tried to help her, and placed my van rental keys in the lock box, I realized my personal car keys weren't in my pocket. They had fallen out of my pocket while driving. The van was locked with no way to get my keys. Another 30 minute wait for customer service, I was told that I would have to wait until Monday at 9 am when they opened back up. They told me one manager was on vacation and another one didn't have a personal phone number listed. I asked for any options to get help. Unfortunately, if I called the police or a locksmith, they most likely wouldn't want to wait the 30-45 minutes to reach Uhaul to get their authorization to unlock the vehicle. I waited until Monday morning and showed up at 9am. Even though I was assured numerous times that someone would be there at 9am, no one showed up until 9:30. The person ended up telling me it was my fault and offered no apologies for the delay. While waiting for the person to show up, I was on hold with Customer Service which again took 45 minutes. The customer service rep informed me that the case I opened was already closed by the gentleman that finally showed up saying the issue was resolved. This was very frustrating especially seeing other customers having the same issues, to the point that one of them gave up on getting their rental and just left. No one seemed to care about trying to help.
On June 30th i had reserved a truck and car dolly to do my move. The first thing was that the truck and car dolly were not at the same location. That was not a big deal to me. When i had the truck i loaded it up and in that process i found out that my car was not compatible for a car dolly. I rep told me to upgrade to a Auto Transport. This is where the ordeal starts.
The the truck i had was not compatible with an Auto Transport. So i was forced to leave my car where i got the truck which was 2 hours away from my new location. While i was enroute to my new home i made a few calls to the customer service. One of the reps wanted me to leave the truck where i was originally going to drop it off and figure out my own way to get my car, and once the contract was closed dispute the charges. I was not satisfied with that so i called back that customer service rep was helpful he gave me the return 2 hour trip back to where my car was for free.
When i returned the truck i had to put double the amount of gas in it. I had the truck checked in and they had put a $221.00 promissory note on my credit card but the uhaul manager at that location tried to put another charge on my card which i did not approve.
So i went with another call to there Customer Service line and received $103 discount. I thought it was all done then.
A few days later i get a notice that uhaul ran another charge on my card for $183.91so in total they charged me $391 for the truck when the quote was $198. I made many calls and was told on 3 occasions to wait 3 to 4 days for the store manager, area manager to get back to me. The first did not call back but according to the customer service rep he stated to them that i already received a discount. The area manager never called so after all that i was given the District Marketing Executive number and they messaged him.
I received an email from his assistant with a receipt of my $183 being reimbursed, which i thanked her for. But i responded that still does not apply the discount i was originally received all i got was no response from her.
I would recommend anyone need to rent a truck to really research and look at what options you might have out there. Uhaul is not the only choice
Uhaul at 1911 Dort hwy, flint, MI simply AWFUL. Blonde ogre behind the counter even worse! Save your $
I rented a uhaul to move from Philadelphia to FL. I also paid for their 3rd party companies to move me on both ends. In Philadelphia when I rented the truck I also needed 48 furniture blankets... The woman could only find 41 blankets unfortunately after looking for over an hour. I took the 41 blankets and got on my way. Apparently she never made note I was missing 7 blankets because when I dropped off the truck in fL when I was done they charged me $8 a blanket for the 7 I didn't even get. Because I paid cash for the rental I had to leave $100 deposit when I picked up the truck, I was told they were taking the $42 for the blankets I never got out of the deposit and to call Uhaul for the remainder of my deposit money (terrible customer service at the drop off location).
This $42 was the least off my issues though... The truck leaked and ruined a brand new $1400 mattress. When the men unloaded the truck in fL they told me to notify Uhaul immediately and let them know their truck leaked. The whole one side of my mattress was drenched, it stunk like mildue, and was stained from water damage. I immediately called Uhaul and filed a claim. 3 weeks later I finally get a response that they are not covering the mattress because their trucks are water resistant not waterproof. Really? If that's not a scam I don't know what it.
Have I known the trucks weren't waterproof I would have never rented one. This was a long distance move and we hit rain about 3x on the way. Instead of blankets they should give water proof plastic to people.
To top it off I still haven't received the $100 cash deposit back from them. This company is a scam
U-HAUL
I know that this letter will mean absolutely nothing to you or The U-haul company, but i am still going to let you know what i think and i will also be putting it on social media
SHAME ON YOU!
I'm sure glad that you are able to sleep at night by putting the blame back on the consumer and making it seem like they are overreacting to a real problem with the truck, that I know had some issues that you say didn't exist. I know I'm just a woman but I know when something isn't right. I can tell you and your company DO NOT care about the consumer or the life of others on the road. You may tell yourself and the Uhaul company that there was nothing wrong with the truck but I know a truck should not shake you to death at 55 miles per hour fully loaded. Tires should not have a chunk out of them, I call your organization a bully and Arrogant just because you're a big company and you think you're above the consequences of your actions. BELIEVE ME when i say Your time is coming that you and your money will not be able to push aside such insidentences such as the one i had
I'm sure you think this is all about money. Well sir you are sadly mistaken, This is about the safety of families and others who use your company, Not that it matters to you or the U Haul company but as for me and my family & friends we will not use your company again. Instead say we will be using donkeys if we have to because then we will at least know we are dealing with asses.
I pray you all will be ready to be held accountable when something really does happen and you and u-haul cost a family the life of their loved one. Just because you don't want to have to make it right with a customer when they have a complaint.
May God have mercy on you all
SHAME ON YOU!
Thanks for making yourselves feel better by lying.
Sleep well
Horrible Company
I rented a U-Haul truck on April 28,2020 from Lake Charles La and paid $641.35 for my truck $51.05 for moving equipment and $325.00 for moving help. When I arrived at U-Haul in Lake Charles Louisiana and started the mobile pickup I was informed of a $100.00 deposit due to me paying with a debit card. On May 1,2020 I returned the U-Haul truck to my designated drop off location, followed the instructions in the mobile app and called the U-Haul customer care line to assure the drop off information was submitted correctly. The lady that I spoke with assured me that everything was good. I asked the agent about my $100 deposit because I only received a refund of $65.00 and she told me that was my refund minus the extra day and insurance on truck. I then asked her about the $5.95 handlers fee from the movers and was told about making a review before I would receive that refunded to my account. Today at 4:47pm my card was charged $89.40! I call customer care center and spoke with an agent that had no clue about my $100 deposit and tells me that the extra 89.40 was for my late return! I asked to speak to her supervisor (Samantha) which also could not explain to me about where my money went and why or how my deposit went missing through the mobile app, why I was over charged at the time of pickup and that's why I received the $65.00 and why I was told on May 1,2020 that the extra day was taken out of my deposit and the $65.00 is what I had left. I was also told the $89.40 was taken because that was my extra day with the truck and she reopened my reservation for her higher up team to look at. I don't know if this is an issue with the mobile app or is it your employees not knowing what they are doing. Why am I missing my $100 deposit and another $89.40 has been taking from my account? I have used U-Haul over 6 times in the past 10 years and have never encountered these issues until I used this mobile app but after dealing with my money missing, nobody can explain where my money went and the company is still taking money from me, I will never waste my time with this company again! U-Haul has stolen from me and my family! I am a very disappointed customer and out of $189.40 with horrible customer service and lies from my agent on May 1,2020!
I will never do business with this compaI will neveny again and if you enjoy decent customer service you won't either. Spent all evening trying to find a truck on their site and they tell you one is available then if you want it for more than 6 hours you can't have it and you have to start your search all over again. I finally find a truck an hour away and am told the business will be closed tomorrow but I can "easily and quickly" pick up the truck using my mobile device. I get there and there's no cell service at the site on either of my cell phones, both major carriers, not prepaid or some smaller upstart. So I spend 2 and a half hours waving my phone in the air standing on up in my convertible looking like an idiot trying to upload photos of my drivers license to them. Meanwhile I'm paying 4 guys 20 dollars an hour to wait at my house with their hands in their pockets. When I finally get the truck and head out I keep trying to call customer service but they put me on hold so long each time that I end up going through another dead zone and having to start all over. Never got anyone. Get back and load the truck up to take some things to storage and one of the guys I hired goes in front of me. It's late and I'm tired when I get a phone call from him telling me there's a road check ahead. No big deal but figure I'll stop and check the brake lights to be sure when I realize in my frustration and rush I have left my license that I had to take 16 pictures of in my car so I have to turn around and scratch the whole unload. I only have one helper tomorrow and somehow the 2 of us have to unload an 8 foot slate pool table by ourselves. When I finally get ahold of customer service the guy is rude and obnoxious tells me i need to take that up with my cell provider. I guess both of them. Do yeah i had a few choice words for him. I was treated so rudely after such a horrible day that before I rent the truck another day I will just push that pool table off the back of the truck and buy another one. Think about that. ID RATHER SPEND 3000 DOLLARS THEN EVER GIVE THIS COMPANY ANOTHER DOLLAR OF MY MONEY. That should be all you need to know to go with a different rental company. I know I will
I don't leave reviews but I am furious with U-haul Company! This is the 5th time they have done this since 2018 and I draw a line this time!
It has always been the same bad service and it's nothing to do with Covid-19 situation!
I made a one way reservation with the Guaranteed availability or get a $50 refund which I didn't get. On the day of pick up, I went online to check in and noticed that the pick up address changed to Laurel MD. Location!? WHAT kind of Guarantee was that? La Plata, MD and Laurel, MD is ONE HOUR + driving difference. TIME AND MONEY we have to spend for their convenience! U-Haul Company SUCKS in scheduling and customer service!
Maybe they are some good reviews because of the same location pick up and delivery BUT their one way service is a HASSLE to go through!
They just change their pick up location as they pleased at the last minute. They sent you an email late night after hours, which you might not see and called it an excuse that they did inform you of the change which is too late to change our plans for the next day at that time anyway. They don't call you in the early morning a day before to try to let you know or give you alternatives so you can schedule your day accordingly!
Previous time was the same thing, We went a long and went to the location they changed it to and when we arrived at the new location were they sent us off to pick up, they said NO SORRY we don't have the truck and sent us to a different location and they also sent us to a different location from there and after 3 location and FOUR HOURS we got a Truck. Can you believe that! What company does that and stay in business for this long?
If it was one time, two times, you could say it's okay, it happens but ALL the time, IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I will leave a review every where I can so customers know what kind of company they are dealing with and watch for disappointments.
Interestingly enough, I left a review on their site. I gave it a 1 star, but now shows as 5. Shady!
I rented a U-Haul this morning at around 10:00am. I drove it eight miles to my house (the entire time the truck was shaking badly) and found I couldn't turn the truck off upon parking. About an hour and a half later their roadside assistance arrived and spent the following three hours working to resolve the problem. I called their 1-800 number to find out what they would do for me, seeing as how by then it was far too late in the day to start moving (not to mention I didn't want to be held responsible for the gas the truck used while idling in my driveway for nearly three hours before they shut it off by another means). I was transferred to customer service where I waited on hold for over an hour, only to be disconnected. Since the wait time for the 1-800 number had a much shorter wait time I called back and asked to be directed straight to someone who could help me as my patience was wearing thin and I had no intention of waiting another hour. I was given the direct line and transferred again, only to discover it was the same line and the wait time was still over an hour... At this point there was no reason to keep the truck anyways so I hung up and returned it immediately. I was able to contact customer service (after another long wait) and they confirmed I would be refunded the full amount (which I would have just charged back anyways had they not). This is the absolute minimum customer service I would expect and it in no way begins to make up for the wasted day, the additional time I now have to take off work, the new help I have to find (of the fact that the people I arranged to help me drove fourty minutes each way just to have their time and gas wasted), or the inconvenience of having to unpack clothes, bedding, food, and dishes to stay in this house another night.
Penske charges nearly identical prices to U-Haul in my area, and I have NEVER had an issue with Penske in the course of several moves (three of which were almost 700 miles). Judging by U-Haul's 1.5 star average customer review across various internet platforms, they don't seem to care much about their customers, equipment, or even their reputation.
Please do yourself a favor and get a Penske or Budget truck like I'll be doing in a day or two. Both of these companies gained an unpaid brand ambassador today. You just don't realize how good something is until you're given proper contrast.
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
