One way rental for 19.99 drove 289 miles and was charged 701.13 this is just crazy. I always have used uhaul and have never git taken for money like i did this time will never use them again!
I originally scheduled to rent a 20ft truck from a U-haul location near me on July 13th. August 17th two days before I move they call me and tell me I have two options if I want the truck that I scheduled for. Both options are an hour away from me and they would not give me any way of getting the car. I talked to this Regional manager in Illinois named Gabriel. Who said that was the best he could do and did not help me any further than that. I hung up and call the customer service number who found me the exact truck I reserved at a location in my town. I'm pretty sure the regional manager just did not care and did not even want to answer phones. I don't know how you can have an organization that deals with people moving across the country and even around the that just don't try to help. The. Customer service lady that answered, her name was Autumn. She helped me with exactly what I needed and when I told her I was having problems with the regional office in Illinois, she scheduled me for the truck without making me go through them. She's the only reason I gave this company a two instead of a one.
One of my most horrible experience at moving was with uhaul. I book a van over the phone with 2300 John st Markham Ontario. At the pickup time the store owner never helped with the rental he just gave me the key to pick up the van.

The van supposed to be 107 if my millage was around 60. When I got the receipt, They have charged me 450$ for it.
When I contacted them they are saying that their terms have been updated and they are charging me for the van that was broken because I accepted the term and conditions which indicates I accepted to pay for the van damages even if it was broken when I picked it up. I never was notified by store owner that van has a black plastic on top of it which is broken or damaged.
Here is the way management emails with complete ignorance about the situation and put all the fault on client. Even I sent them several images of the pick up time they never accepted the pictures. Clearly they just want take money from people making up reason for it.
Here is the pictures that I sent them you can see they are just looking for a reason to charge people.
Very disappointed in UHAUL. I made a reservation for a 15' truck a week and a half ago to be picked up in my rural town. They called this morning to tell me they could not honor my reservation at the pick up point or with truck size. The truck would be now a 26' (at least that was the same price), however pick up was 2 HOURS AWAY from my home, so I would have to make a 4 hour drive to move and then drive right back by the pick up location again to my new home.
This is completely unprofessional of UHAUL to allow PAID RESERVATIONS to not BE HONORED. People have to put a lot of plans and people in place to move and to get a two day notice of NO TRUCK is not ok. I am giving them a zero rating if I could, but it made me pick one star.
Also, this is not the fault of any local dealer. Stop doing this to people.
Used U-boxes. They did not deliver on the guaranteed delivery date, nor did they attempt to contact us; although we attempted to provide delivery instructions (website would not link our account and our reservation) attempted to reach them by phone, and finally reached them by chat where we were provided a DIFFERENT number. Called that number and were told it was too late to make it on today's delivery (Friday) but would deliver Monday. Okay. Got a call next day saying they can't deliver for another WEEK after they already said Monday and was told "that's what my supervisor told me to say" and that we could pick up the u-boxes ourselves otherwise. We agreed to the delivery date stating we have no choice, and were advised this changed the guaranteed delivery date so they don't have to pay us the $50 a day for breaking the contract and on top of that will probably add storage fees which were not needed as we have been at the new house 2 WEEKS prior to the guaranteed delivery date. On top of that, this rep had an attitude. You lied to us, did not do your job, broke the contract, are holding our belongings hostage, adding additional charges, and YOU have an attitude? I will NEVER use this company again even if I have to buy my own semi-truck to move.
Our experience was a nightmare... I read the reviews prior to renting the truck but I figured if I got names and a confirmation number I would be covered. NOT! Ordered truck near my home to be picked up at 8 am just for my husband to get to the location and find out there was no truck for us and attendant at the gas station was uncooperative... When we called ahaul they tried to tell us our reservation was for 2 pm mind u I had spoken with someone three times about this reservation even to inquire about a larger truck after my initial order. After traveling to several locations and uhaul checking around I had no choice but to wait until 2 with my help waiting and being unconvinced just for the person who was suppose to return that truck to keep it for an additional day... This was a total inconvenience and turned out to Beverly costly. They gave us another truck at 2 and a discount but it doesn't compare to what we went thru and neither did the fifty dollar check the sent for our inconvenience and additional funds we put out from this situation. They need to do more when the cause such an inconvenience. That only covered anything not even what we put out for the truck
The entire reason we chose UHAUL was because it was in close and convenient proximity to our current residence. We reserved our truck weeks in advance. At 5pm, the night before our pick up, we were informed that the pick up location had changed. This delayed our move an entire hour and caused us to face some very serious traffic. The representatives informed us that we would be able to drop off the truck, even if it was closed. They neglected to inform us that we would need a smart phone with tracking software to take live, on location photos of the truck being dropped off. Neither me, nor my partner can afford a smart phone and luckily our friend was able to upload tracking software, but not everyone likes being tracked! This drop off process takes all the responsibility and work off the shoulders of UHAUL employees and puts it on the customer, which clearly it needs to do because of the thick incompetence coursing through the veins of this institution. My partner did not want to use UHAUL from the start and clearly, I should have listened to him. UHAUL just lost three customers. Never again.
PLEASE DO NOT EVER RENT FROM A MECHANIC SHOP THAT RENT OUT UHAUL TRUCKS.
ESPECIALLY REAL DEAL AUTO LOCATED 2205 S MILITARY HWY
CHESAPEAKE VA ******* THEY CHARGED ME FEES THAT WERENT CORRECT. SO PLEASE STAY AWAY.
I Could not get access to our U-box because employees misinformed us about the "policy" that I've never had an issue with for the past 5 years. Couldn't access my belongings, asked to speak with a supervisor and I was sent to the president( great) thought I was going to resolve my issue. Turns out the president is just a huge disrespectful human who told me that he couldn't help me get access to my belongings and that he had better things to do than to be going "back and forth with me" and that he was going to "hang up", such great service. Rented a Ubox in the past and was always able to access it at the given time that I wanted. This time around I was also told that I could just call up and give a heads up and they would "gladly" bring it out for us by the time we arrived. 20,30 minutes was always fine. Was never told it had to be 24 hours not this time nor last time around. Last rental was also always accessed within a 20 minute noticed and everything was fine. Spoke to them respectfully but for some reason it's like I was insulting them. Worst experience with this so call "President" who's been in the U-Haul business for 13 years, sad.
I can't even leave a proper review on their website because the only thing they allow me to review is the pickup and drop off location. I can't review their service or the actual truck itself.
I had a long distance move. During which the app and website both kept failing, kept resetting while i was trying to use it, kept logging me out in the middle of looking something up. Customer service was a joke, everybody redirected me to someone else, only to find out two days later that the question i was asking "wasn't even a possibility." It was impossible to get a hold of my "local scheduling manager", whom I got redirected to several times. I was automatically put on hold after the phone stopped ringing and nobody ever answered.
So FYI - you can't upgrade insurance after you already have an uhaul reservation. Which doesn't make any sense. I would have paid to upgrade it. Even though their website claims you can "edit an existing reservation", all you can actually edit is where you will be dropping the truck off to. Nothing else.
The air in our truck stopped working the first few hours of our trip and it was a very hot day. It started working again after 3 hours or so, thankfully.
I'm really disappointed in uhaul - they were shockingly terrible for having such a large presence.
DO NOT USE UHAUL! They gave me faulty equipment which resulted in the power steering fluid leaking completely out and the brakes going out! On a 15foot truck pulling a vehicle! I almost died! This has been the worst experience ever! We were stranded at the gas station for 6 hours waiting for roadside assistance, they finally showed up to tell us they can't do anything and that I'm the 41st person this has happened to. What is going on Uhaul?!? Then we waited for a tow truck, when it finally showed up the truck was too small so we had to wait for another truck. Then unload our belongings onto another truck. I was on my way to start my new job. This put is two days behind. When we finally reached our destination, we were told that we had no reservation for our storage unit. So we had to take a non climate controlled, too small unit for our stuff. When customer service was called, the guy laughed! I almost died on the highway and this man laughed at me. This is how I've been treated from start to end. This is unacceptable. Then he hung up. I had a customer action file opened last week and was waiting to be contacted by a manager. Called back today to be told my problem was resolved and the case was closed! I was never contacted by anyone! Absolute crap company. Do not use them. Penske is your best bet. Their trucks are wayyyyy better and more reliable.
Remember when U-Haul was the standard for moving trucks and supplies? When we said "U-Haul" like we said "Kleenex" when we meant facial tissue? Well, IMO, they have ridden those laurels into the ground, abandoned customer service and just hope no one notices.
I have long ago given up that they will have the truck I need at the time I need it and have moved all my truck business to Penske. But I still imagined they were good at selling moving supplies.
Oops. After going to a couple franchises unable to find the supplies I needed, I went to the big boys on Alta Mere (ft worth, tx). "Nope. Don't have them." "Can you tell me who does have them?" (Priceless response) "Well all of them should have them." I pointed out that HE "should" have them so that's useless advice. He agreed and I walked.
OBTW, ya know how they say "Buy all the boxes you want; we will buy them back." Turns out that without a receipt they don't! Who saves receipts for boxes in the middle of a move? They say "U-Haul" all over them. They are in the original packaging. Where else might I have gotten them?
Alta Mere said they'd take them for a store credit but Alta Mere doesn't have stuff I need. Hulen, I suspect since they DID have what I needed" said no ticky no laundry. And were quite rude that I even asked.
Summary, I'm done with U-Haul. I'll rent Penske trucks and get supplies from U-line and watch for the bankruptcy filing. Sears, Kmart, the USSR...ya treat folks badly enough, they leave.
The person who helped me with my reservation was very kind and well intentioned and my review shouldn't reflect poorly on him. But, my experience as a whole was very poor. The truck itself needed maintenance. It had trouble getting into gear. But the most frustrating aspect was showing up expecting to do the mobile check in and not being able to do so because uhaul website sucks. I ended up waiting an extra 30 minutes for the business I was picking up from to open so. Additionally, I was given a smaller truck than I had reserved which caused me to make an extra trip I wouldn't have had to make with the bigger truck which then added to the overall cost of my reservation due to that extra mileage. I contacted uhaul at the end of the day and requested a refund for the extra mileage incurred on my reservation and they gave me a $10 credit to use on a future uhaul reservation. LOL like I'll ever use uhaul again. Their response made it clear that they don't care about my business. I mean why would they when they have a pretty solid monopoly on the market. Needless to say, I won't ever use uhaul again.
This place is a joke I rented a truck and a car carrier to drive across the country had everything packed and ready to go 3 days before I was ready to pick up the truck and leave they called to tell me they don't have a vehicle for me to drive across the country with after I was ready to go I wish they had a rating less than one store cuz that's what I would give what a joke
They don't honour reservations thinking they can simply note "we might change this as we like."
We "Reserved" a 20" truck for the location in our city for tomorrow night, back on June 2nd. We have a bit of a complex move and have to get the truck quickly... pack it... then drive it to a ferry which we also had to reserve.
Today they called and told us our reservation isn't a "reservation" it is a "reservation request" (which is funny because I have a RESERVATION NUMBER IN MY CONFIRMATION!). They could only provide a 15" truck, 45 minutes away. After 30 minutes on the phone arguing with 2 "managers" that this was bait and switch and not legal one said: "As an exception to help with your situation we will boost your kilometre allowance to add the distance from the city you now have to pick up in to the previous location you had reserved."
This floored me. Me: "Wait... those kilometers weren't going to be automatically added?" her: "No! You would have had overages and had to pay extra."
Holy s*** lol. Avoid Uhaul like the plague.
I went to go rent a U-Haul to move to Kansas from Turlock California it's over $8,000 to move me and my mom that are on fixed income I can't believe how wrong you guys are doing people you are highway robbery I can go buy one for that price but I'm on a fixed income so I can't you guys are worthless pieces of crap
They didnt let me rent the van cause I dont have an intl drivers licence. Didnt give me any solution because they are "all rented out". They said I was a liability and forbade anyone coming With me to rent a van. HORRIBLE SERVICE DONT RENT WITH THEM
I wish i could give negative stars. I have called UHAUL multiple times over this situation and always get ran in circles and told i need to call this number then that number and then someone will tell me it's been resolved and a month later i'll get an email saying i owe money. I rented a uhaul a year ago and was told the wrong drop off location by the uhaul location i picked the vehicle up from. I went to the drop off location the next morning to drop off the vehicle and this location said they were unable to accept returned uhaul's they were only a storage center? This is the exact location i was told in person and that my receipt stated was the drop off location. The lady at the desk called her boss and was told i should
Not be charged for the extra day or extra mileage yet here i am a year later being charged. After they told me i could not leave the uhaul there i said i would have to drop it off at the new drop off location after work because it was so far away it was going to make me late for work, they said this is no issue since it's the pick up locations mistake making the uhaul late. I returned the uhaul that night when i got off work and have been trying to resolve this ever since. This has been the worst customer service experience i have EVER received.
Having a hitch installed at UHaul was a most horrible experience.
First of all, the hitch installation should have taken 1 1/2 hours; it took FOUR HOURS! We sat around with no updates and no Customer Service lounge. And, missed a doctor's appointment.
Back to the actual work.
The rear bumper, which had to be taken off, was scratched in the process.
Next, we ordered a bike rack, which was also a total fiasco.
Because the hitch installation took so long, the "mechanic" had no time to properly install the bike rack. Let alone show us how to use it or even understand how it worked himself.
He wasn't even properly educated on how it worked himself (i. E., he had the "anti-wobbling" strap coming from inside of the car! Instead of from outside; my wife pointed it out to him).
Worst of all, in the midst of all of this confusion and ineptitude, he opened the hatch door of our brand new BMW X3, while the rack was in place, causing TWO dents right in the middle of the door.
To go along with the scratches on the bumper.
I don't know about their actual rental business, although I heard quite a few complaints during my 4+ hour stay in the office, but they should stick to that and avoid promising service on something that they have no right doing.
I filed a claim with their insurance carrier. After 3 weeks I was told that it was "Tied up in Corporate".
I had to work to 15hrs had to movie I was late my reservation got delete. My sister had made the arrangement but they accommodate us helping an over woke women get on her way and I'm great full
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
