Bad customer service
August 2, 2022

I wasted my gas, time, tolls and money to go pick a trailer. I couldn't get it because of lights and they refused to refund my money back to me after making me buy a hook. Very disappointed.

Scheduling problems
August 5, 2022

Uhaul has a problem with their scheduling. I chose a specific site for a trailer rental and got a confirmation email of the time and location. They said this was a guaranteed reservation with $50 promised if it wasn't there. I received a text inviting me to do an online check in which I glanced at and didn't read behind the first sentence (there was no mention of a change in location but the included and address of a different location which, as I said, I had no reason to look at having already received confirmation of the preferred location). The morning of the rental I checked the website under my account to confirm the location and it still confirmed the location I had chosen. The trailer was not there. I called customer service and asked for my $50 which they declined saying they sent me a text. I suggested some changes to their scheduling including syncing what is on the website under the client's account with the new information. The representative said that she can't do anything about that. She is scheduling. She has nothing to do with the online presence ("they, uhaul does that. I can't do anything about that."). I was confused. I wondered who "they" were. Finally she admitted that she was uhaul but didn't see the irony in the silos she was creating to disavow any responsibility. So frustrating. Bad customer service. Bad scheduling. Unable to give input as to how things might be improved.

On their emails- texts- website it says that if the store does not have the equipment uhaul will get the equipment to the store for you in preparation for your pickup. Well that was not true. We spent time that we did not have calling other stores, calling corporate and no one could locate us the furniture pads we had reserved. It was almost hilarious how incompetent people were. The man at the store gave me other stores numbers to call. Like how is there not a database with equipment? With no help there I was transferred to corporate and they were like "oh we will take them off your bill" and I was like "no I need them I don't want them taken off." Eventually I gave up and just never got them. On my account on uhaul.com I contacted them to make sure that the costs were taken off my bill and then weren't but they promised they were now. Guess what? At our destination when I paid guess what was not taken off our bill? It is just a mess. No communication across dealers and stores and corporate. You talk to one person and nothing is resolved. The whole experience made me so mad! I had to call corporate again and dispute the charge and ask for a refund because they made me pay for it in the store EVEN THOUGH I NEVER GOT THEM! Even after all the times they said they were taking them off my bill. At least at the end they were able to give me a refund. But my goodness, SUCKY customer service

Rented from Nehring Uhaul in Newton Ia. On January 27th 2021 for a cross country move. First of all uhaul charges premium prices for their trucks so you would expect the absolute best equipment. NOT SO in this case.

Truck cab was filthy and had not been cleaned or sanitized prior to pickup so we had to do it ourselves. Guess they don't believe covid is real. Got the truck and car trailer FULLY LOADED and noticed as we were pulling out before dawn the next morning that the passenger side seat belt was torn so badly that it was rendered unusable. Too late to trade trucks so we had to make a 1400 mild trip without it.

The stress of possibly being exposed to a virus and my wife not being safe because of this company's negligence in inspecting the truck PRIOR to releasing it to be rented made it the most miserable and dangerous trip I have ever taken. I called Uhaul corporate and they were uninterested in my predicament. The exact response was "well, you got there didn't you? Then took 200.00 off an already over inflated price. Dangerous filthy vehicles, crappy unhelpful service and a total lack of concern for the safety of their customers. DO NOT USE UHAUL. I never will again.

Fu@k This company.
September 27, 2022

Well. What can go wrong with this $#*!ty U-Haul company again? First, I made the reservation for a truck 3 months before I needed it. When I got there, there was no truck for me. Second the guy tells me they have a bigger truck that they can give me. I said, for the same price, right? He said no. Not only that but the mileage per mile was also more. I said you must be kidding... He wasn't. He then proceeded to tell me I have a moral choice to make. Go somewhere else or take a truck from someone else who has booked it already. WTF kind of service is that. Unfortunately, I had NO choice as I was on a time crunch for the truck so not only did U-Haul $#*! me but also the poor SOB that was also now without a truck.
This is my second $#*! experience with U-Haul in 3 months. The last time I had a truck reserved at a different location and when I got there, they said my truck was at a different site and I had to go there to pick it up. When I got there was no one there to help at the office as it wasn't open. Not only that but due to the distance it was going to cost me many more miles which would end up costing me more money. When I messaged the company for a refund due to their mistake, they flat out told me no.
Anyone that needs to rent a truck I would HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere for a rental. Either that or plan an extra 4-5 hours to get a truck and plan on spending about 1/3 moore than they tell you.

I asked for a quote to have UBoxs delivered, picked up then stored locally until I had a ship to address. I also used their Help Move labor, which has been a total nightmare, this deserves a separate one star review. After calling to have the boxes shipped, they sent me to the the shipping to state, Lansing Michigan), to have them make the arrangements. Lansing office said it is up to the office, (Boise), to make shipping arrangements. This back and forth happened twice, until I begged the Lansing office to stay on the line, not simply transfer me. After awhile on hold, Lansing said the miss understanding was cleared up and Boise came on the line. It seemed to go well from there, until I received an email notifying me of the charges. Shipping 2 little Uboxes, $3824.00. To ship a PODS 16 foot container cost me $3250.00. PODS also had trained and informed people answering the phone. UHaul has cost me thousands in failed labor services, over charging for shipping and untold number of hours on the phone. Do yourself a huge favor, avoid UHaul for any of their moving services.

Awful company to deal with.
April 30, 2022

I can say confidently that after today I will never be using uhual for my moving needs ever again. Today I went to the pick up location at 12pm as it was the time and place that was emailed to me only to be told that my pick up location had been changed. I then went to the new location where I could not find anyone just a phone number. The person over the phone told me that my reservation was not until 5:30 now, unaware of any changes I called customer service to only be told that they did try contacting me by phone, text, and email that my reservation had been changed. I did not receive any contact from uhual except my initial email stating the first location and pick up was noon. This is completely unacceptable. Uhual staff told me they had nothing else available and I would have to wait until 5:30 now which completely screwed up my entire day, but clearly I had no other option but to wait. So we return to the new location at 5:20 to pick up the uhual and not a single person was there. Everything was locked and the person was no longer answering their phone. I sat on hold with uhual for over an hour and finally gave up. I am now screwed with no way to move my items out of my place and having to postpone my tenant that is supposed to move in tomorrow morning. So now not only am I inconvenienced but now my renter is inconvenienced as well. Not to mention the fact that I will now be out money as I will have to postpone her move in and decrease her rent. As a company I expect better, much better.

I mistakenly made a "reservation" for a moving truck on the U-Haul app. Only to find out when I was going to go get the truck it hadn't been a reservation but a "reservation request" per U-Haul Customer Service on the 800 number. The customer service person was rude and spoke to me as if I was stupid and then when I got upset hung up on me! I tried calling back, everytime my call was connecting to Customer Service it was like it was rejected and sent back into the queue. I waited for over 20 minutes and that happened 4 times where my call was being connected and then sent back into the queue. I called back 6 hours later and someone answered right away. I explained everything, was put on hold, then the person came back on and asked what I expected them to do. I said I wasn't sure and asked if they were willing to do anything and she said, "I'm very sorry that happened to you."
That was it. End of conversation. So, in the future I will be calling the rental place directly and working only with the local people. Hopefully this way I'm able to accomplish what I want.

Like many others, I'd give a 0 if I could. We rented and prepaid for a 26 foot Uhaul to move my sons home from college. We made the reservations a month ahead of time. Three days before the move I went to confirm. It turns out the place I rented from was no longer in business and nobody reached out to tell me this! Fast forward, the chat line disconnected me prior to the 3 minutes alloted to respond to their response (thanks Lindsey!). The second time I tried the chat line, it was well over the time I was told I'd get a response. I was on the phone several times throughout this experience and the wait was 25 min. Or longer EACH TIME. I finally was able to get in touch with someone only to be told the closest reservation was 20 miles past our location where we needed. That's 20 miles down and 20 miles back. We accepted because this was our only option as the apartment lease for our sons' apartment was up that weekend. We arrive at this out of the way location only to be told that the location was not set-up for this kind of pick-up. We found this out after spending an hour and a half at this location back and forth on the phone with Uhaul. We are told to go to ANOTHER location 40 MIN
Down the road in another state! That's ANOTHER 40 MIN out of the way and 40 MIN back to the second location which was already 20 miles off the beaten path. We finally get our Uhaul only to discover that it was on empty and it didn't have the dolly or furniture pads we requested. This is a billion dollar company! Frustrating! Never again will we work with company!

The Uhaul in my small home town was always good to me. I used them a few times and even though they were sometimes understaffed and I often had to wait longer, I never had issues. They also would refund you if you put more gas in it than when you left. Once I moved to a bigger city, though, I've been consistently let down. I was given an awful truck that had trouble starting and it had barely enough gas in it to get to the gas station. I filled the tank all the way up for my 309 mile journey and knew for a fact when I returned that I had more gas is it than when I left. The lady informed me that they did not refund the cash for filling it up past what was in the tank once handed off. I left already kind of annoyed about that. Now I'm getting emails saying I owe them an extra 50 dollars for some miles I went over. I asked if they could detract that from the extra gas I put in it and now their saying it had the same amount of gas in it returned when I know for a fact that it was more, almost a quarter of a tank more. This company will MERCILESSLY RIP YOU OFF

Buyer Beware!
January 8, 2024

This company is terrible. Their business dealings are shady at best and fraudulent at worst. I rented a 10ft truck for 24 hrs. They told me the truck had less than a quarter tank of gas, and that I could return it with the same amount in it. That truck had ZERO gas in it when I pulled out of their lot and they wanted it returned with gas? Also, they charged me $222 in addition to the cost of $117 for a one-day rental. Someone from the company called me and said it was because I returned the truck 3 days later. When I confirmed I returned the truck to the same pick up location 24 hours later, they told me it was because I did 200 miles over the 30 miles that I originally paid for. It was my word against their odometer which I think is rigged or something. The town where my storage was was 12 miles away from my home, which is a verifiable fact. Let's say though that it was 15 miles away, I would have had to travel back and forth over 6 or 7 times in those 24 hrs to travel 200 miles. That's just absurd! I did 2 trips to that town, which would have put me at 50 miles. I would have accepted 50 miles over to account for any stops, different routes I may have taken, etc. If they told me I went 100 miles total. I would have accepted to pay the additional $50 or $70. But y'all can't make me believe I went 200 miles over, that's just robbery! I hope you enjoy the $337 because that's the LAST TIME I will do business with UHAUL and you best believe EVERYONE I come across will be warned!

Awful experience with UHaul. Booked and paid for movers through UHaul - guess what, NO SHOW! Then when the movers FINALLY showed up at the UBOX facility - guess what, NO BOX. And then when they miraculously found my UBOX - guess what, they held is hostage because they needed more money even though I paid my deposit up front so I had to pay more money for no reason even though two days before i got an email saying my UBOX is ready to be picked up and the email said nothing about additional money. Extortion - you guessed it. Pass on UHaul - go with PODS theyre a much better more reliable service.

Terrible DONT USE
July 2, 2023

Uhaul made me drive an hour and a half to pick up my uhaul. They asked me to tow ONE trailer behind a 26 foot van. When we showed up to the place where we were to pick up the trailer they tried to give us TWO trailers to tow behind an already 26 ft van which is ILLEGAL in BC. We changed our drop off location of the van to where they wanted us to drop off the trailers which wasn't our original destination. When asked to have our original drop off destination back because we weren't taking the trailer anymore as they lied to us they did not honour it and continued to fight with me. WORST customer service and ILLEGAL!

December 1, 2022

If you ever consider a job at uhaul RUN THE OTHER WAY! There is horrible racial discrimination throughout the whole company, they work you like a job for low pay, they teach you to lie to customers as part of your job "sorry we don't do propane on certain days" "submit a receipt for the over charge you get refunded" Its all about getting the customer to pay and go away, PERIOD. They are a billion dollar company and unless you sleep your way to the top you won't get anywhere and the general managers get bonuses for the hard work the employees do while the employees don't get crao

Oh so rude!
May 25, 2023

Not good is an understatement. I went there to get a propane tank refilled. I arrived at 6:40PM. I had to flag someone down to help me and his response was 'no, I can't help you'. I then asked if he could find someone to help me which completely didn't even dawn on him. So I head instead only to be 'greeted' by someone an employee exiting the store. I asked if he could help me in the propane area and his response was 'nope- it closed at 6:30'. I continue to ask him why it closed at 6:30 when the store hours are until 7PM. He rudely replies and says 'well that is what the posted hours are so I don't get why you are confused?'. I'll admit... I accidentally dropped the f'bomb in my reply when i said 'are you f'in kidding me? I just asked why it closes at 6:30 when the store closes at 7PM and online says it is open till 7PM, you don't have to get ugly about it!'. Next thing I know, Large Marge comes running out of the store and tells me to get off her property and that she is going to call the police on me! Wow! Sad thing... I can't stop laughing at how rude they were! Really? I just wanted to know why it closed at 6:30PM.
