Rented truck in Oakland California. Customer service was good and there was no problem with the truck. However when you see 19.95 advertise on the side of the truck you believe the rental is $19.95. What is not mentioned is that you are charged. 89 a mile, which is acceptable, except you are charged for 50 miles upfront even if you do not drive 50 miles. The $19.95 rental ended up costing $98.00. It is actually cheaper to rent a panel van from Enterprise, you get free mileage.
Absolute thieves! We rented a truck for a day to buy some furniture, and they gave us a truck that had an empty gas tank, even though they had multiple other trucks available. We thought it was weird that they wanted to us to take a truck with an empty tank and fill it up, but the guy reassured us that we could drop the receipt in the post box and that we were going to be refunded. So we did that. After many weeks of not being refunded, we contacted them to see what is going on, and their response was "oh, we don't do refunds for this kind of thing". What? Outrageous! Absolute thieves!
I made a reservation for U-Haul truck a week in advance for my moving date. I went to go pick up the truck I was supposed to and there was no truck there. So the best day was able to offer me was to drive two and a half hours away from my house to go pick up the truck and they still wanted me to pay for the mileage. So long story short on my moving Day I had no truck and I had to move all my stuff by vehicle this is the second time I ever used U-Haul and they did this again so I would never ever use them ever again. I would never recommend you all to anyone you're better off just doing it yourself

I made a reservation for my move on Monday went to the Hillsboro location to see about the costs and concerns.
Finally called traffic about my confirmation on Wednesday and today I am told that I can't get the transporter I have to drive another 25 minutes outside of my move to pick up a transporter this is unacceptable.
Why do you even have traffic people working if they don't know what they have! I am spending $2000. 00 to move myself when I should have trusted a company outside of your company to come in a pack my items and load it up as well as drive it to Az. For this it's unacceptable!

If you book online it does not mean you get a truck. Even if a sales rep calls you to confirm your order. The terrible people that work a Uhaul are the least helpful. This company could care less of how customers are treated. Location Plymouth MN.
Fuel discrepancies, refund headaches, overcharges, misquotes, failure to provide or secure desired size truck, transmission problems with truck. Headache lousy experience, but they know they got you between a rock and a hard place, because what else are you going to do when you need to move.
I was having a very rough trip, after two trucks not working I called him and he took my call and helped me. He actually took a minute two listen to what I was going through, find out where I was, and then he made sure I was completely reimbursed for everything. My uhual experience was poor at first but then once I mentioned that I had talked to him everyone started being so much more respectful and helpful. I also talked to the general manager of where I live in California and she was lovely as well! Anyway, I gained a lot of respect for the owner of uhual through this experience even though at first it was chaotic. Thank you joe
I was supposed to pick up the truck at 6:30 am. I received a call from U-haul the day before saying it would 7:30. When we got there they said there were no trucks. It was so stressful because we already hired help on both ends of the move. We finally did get a truck at 9am. The truck had personal belongings and trash from the last user. It was so stinky and disgusting. Our hired help had to clear it out first which took about 30 minutes for two men to do. Then I had to pay someone $150 to haul it off. It was really an awful experience. I had to pay the helpers an extra $200 to stay later to get it unloaded. The pic shows what was in the truck when we opened it.
I had to pick to pick up my truck on July 24,2021 from D&L Distribution location in Vaughn. Reservation was made via online. When I came to pick up my truck, there was no truck key in the box. I tried to call to different U haul numbers. No answer. They screw me up big time. I could not complete moving because of this irresponsible company. Stay away from these idiots.
We organized a Uhaul truck one month in advance. They called me at 7:40 am the morning we were to pick up the truck and said they did not have a truck for us until the following afternoon - and a 1.5 hour drive away from our house and the original pick-up location. NO GUARANTEES with this company. Five people had arranged time off and schedules to help us with this move. We absolutely had no wiggle room.
My husband and I rented a 20 ft truck and had to the 24/7 pick up. The app is impossible to work, and they scanned my husband's driver's license and tried to claim it was fake! Come to find out U-Haul doesn't recognize Arizona drivers license. But they ended up black listening us and screwed us! We almost weren't able to move our belongings! Horrible customer service and a horrible company. I am suing them for damages!
These guys were Butchers. Their handy work cost $1,500 to repair the body work damage they created as a result of the hitch installation. They basically installed a hitch that did not fit may vehicle.
We tried to use the mobile services to pick up a truck because they didn't have any available at the locations with actual people. We drove 30 mins to pick up a truck and the code didn't work. Sat on the phone with a lady. Tried 3 different codes and none of them worked. Left and cancelled the reservation, went to a location with a person and picked up a bigger truck to avoid the issues with the mobile pick up. They sent us to a lot down the road to pick up the truck. The paper listed the gas in the truck as 3/4 full. Started the truck and it was 1/4 full. Called and the man said he would mark it and not to worry about bringing it in. Took a picture to be safe. Sure enough 2 weeks later I'm getting messages that I owe $42 even though I returned it with more gas than it had in it. Unbelievable
My young adult kids rented a trailer in Fayetteville. Disappointed the rental agency didn't think to ask if their SUV had adequate towing capacity (spoiler- it did not). After I made them return the trailer and get a truck, we headed out for Texas. When the truck started having issues on day 3,5 hours from our destination, I found the UHaul roadside assistance to be fantastic- the call center personnel was great, our tow truck driver was fantastic and the Storage/rental facility in Fort Worth stayed open late for us to get the truck unloaded into storage. Bummer the truck broke but so pleased with how the situation was handled.
I reserved a I reserved a U-Haul truck in Albuquerque a month in advance of my move, but was sent to Tijeras, on the opposite side of the mountains, to pick it up. This would be a minor inconvenience for someone living in Albuquerque, but I was flying in. It cost me $40 for a Uber just to get to Tijeras. I spoke to five different people at the U-Haul dispatch and they all refused to change the pickup point. Albuquerque is a big city with many U-Haul dealers. I stopped counting after the tenth one I passed. Every single one had at least one 26 foot truck on the lot.
I have used U-Haul many moves throughout my life, and been satisfied. But this situation will probably be my last. The lack of customer service from the Albuquerque dispatch center has caused the company to lose a long-time customer.
They have messed up 2 of my moves so far! Back in 2017, They didn't have the truck I ordered 2 days in a row!
Fast forward to today, I have a U-box problem. I rented 2 U-boxes and they couldn't place them due to equipment failure and forgot the lock I ordered. The worst part, I can't have them delivered to my new location. I need to find a truck and move them myself or buy their "mover" help! I had to bounce around between 4 customer service reps that had no clue what they are doing. They ordered me 2 new U-boxes instead! Whatever you pay them, it is too much! Do yourself a favor, and go anywhere else. You will be glad you did.
It was a great experience in having the U-Haul storage company help me with my needs of replacing a trailer wiring plug on my truck.The tech was extremely knowledgeable about the service I needed and that he performed.He was fast and made me aware of what needed to be done. He explained to me what he had done and why and made suggestions as to what he believed would work best for my needs. I could only hope that all service people I dealt with would treat me with the same respect he did.He is truly an asset to this company. I would return for any further service I would need in this area without hesitation.
Rented a 26 footer for a 700 mile move. Rented online, picked up at the counter. Uhaul kept me advised about my rental status with texts including one the night before rental pickup to tell me all was good. I got a text asking if I would like a free car dolly. I declined but they called back and asked if I would drag the car dolly to my destination for 25 bucks. I agreed figuring I was helping someone out. Truck ran good. Interior was kinda dirty, like a work truck. Truck had 54k on it. I had a problem with billing. I contacted uhaul via email. Angela from Uhaul called me about an hour later and quickly resolved the problem. I found the customer service to be excellent everywhere.

Got pods from them, we told them when we wanted pick up, they call us like 2 days before, tell us pick up now or not till next week. We were closing on house so we needed them gone for new owner. They told us pods would delivered the 14th, today was 14th no pods no call, I called them in morning, someone said oh they will be there. Called again later in day, woman said I need to talk to shipping dept, get back to you tomorrow. They are totally incompetent, boxes have numbers and scan code, you're telling me you can't find them. I will never use them again
Reserved a truck in Manitoba and got confirmation twice
Spent $300 flying from Ontario to Manitoba. Stop at the U-Haul location and was told there was no truck available and there never was one. They compensated me $50. Totally unacceptable service

Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
