The customer service was pathetic. The vehicle I reserved was not available when I arrived; Sam and the other associates did not communicate the change in status at all. Dealing with this "business," was a complete waste of time.
Summary of my nightmare experience with U-Haul:
I went to pick up a trailer I reserved for a Thursday for moving cross-country and went to pick it up and the trailer was broke. Issues with the brake lights and the hitch wouldn't work. So I had to travel to their local main office and I was there for what seemed like forever listening to a couple in front of me were yelling at the service employees on a screw up. No dice at that location. I then had to traveled to a couple more locations to try and find a trailer. Finally got one a couple days later--left early Saturday. Toward the end of the trip, the trailer door kept popping open multiple times. At one point I lost some boxes with some very expensive stuff in it, never found it. So upset, but to make matters worse, I was to start a new job that Monday, but because of all the issues and setbacks with U-Haul, I had to miss my first day at the new job. Never Again--Horrific Experience!
I made a reservation to pick up a cargo van 9:00 in the morning one town over from where I live. The night before, I get a check in email, and the van pickup was now very far away, and close to noon. That kind of late start was unacceptable, and when I have limited mileage, I refuse to drive that far to pick the van up. I had to cancel the reservation, and that left me high and dry. I initially made my rental with U-Haul, and U-Haul sent me to get a rent a wreck at the last minute. I will never ever even consider using U-Haul in the future.
Uhal is one of the worst moving rental companies out there to deal with. They are scammers. They charged me the amount that I owed the day I returned their truck then months later I got an invoice that went to collects for another amount of $50.00 with out being informed. So not only that they have been dishonest with check out they have ruined my credit rating. They are clearly not honest to deal with. I'd stay away from these guys and go with someone else.
I have all my receipts and records but 2 months after turning in my 3 day rental a day early they decided to send me a message saying I owe them and I have 4 days to pay or I get a 30 dollar late fee! I don't think so! I have my records and I will fight this bs!
Horrible phone customer service. Try to rent a car after hours. She said she done everything go to location and do it on app but actually she didn't do anything. I'm on the phone over 43 mins now and nobody answer the phone even 24/7 service
Where do I start, terrible customer service! I was on hold longer than the time I rented the truck. No one know what they are doing. Don't know how they are even in business. How do you put a picture waiting on the phone. My god!
Every single time I use U-Haul they give the wrong reservation and booking information. Either they book a truck at the pickup location that no longer exists or send you to a drop off location that no longer exists. Or the pick location may exist but they don't have your truck. This happens every single time. I have had to drive for miles to pick up a vehicle or equipment that was booked at a nearby location, most of the time not told until I arrive to pick it up. The only time I uses this company anymore is when it's an absolute must and there isn't another company in the area. I don't know how this company stays in business.
I've now been trying to buy a truck from uhaul for days. The process just doesn't make sense and I don't understand it. They send their truck sales people home for the weekend and nobody else in the entire building can access that part of the building besides this one person. Yet most people work during the week and have no time to go to uhaul or any dealer so they leave the weekend for that. I literally have the money and nobody is there to do a simple Job of taking my money and letting me test drive the vehicle. Moral of the story Uhaul stop sending people home or let other people be able to access the area of the building so the same can be made. This process could be simple and it's being made out to be harder than it is.
What a joke this company is! Nothing but issues from day one! And their rates are outrageous! Uboxes is not the way to go as it was like dealing with infants to get them delivered and picked up out of my driveway. It took emailing the CEO Joe@ uhaul dot com to get them delivered 3 days late and now 3 days later they still sit in my driveway. No one knows what they are doing and everyone has a different excuse! Use anyone but these junkers! Pick up your dang Uboxes ASAP!
Worst customer service i have ever experienced on two occasions. Company just does not care about the customer. In fact the moral in this company is so bad that it appears that staff are deliberate donekys.
Under staffed long line ups. They did not send me an invoice. I tried to call the place, they kept putting me on hold, and hung up on me. AFter the second time I tried calling their 1-800 They have a horrid loop, with the same dumb messages. And the wait times are an hour of listening to this loop. After an hour i hung up. I called first thing in the morning. Waited 15 minutes, after pressing all the right numbers to direct my call, the operator said i was in the wrong department. And then hung up on me.
I called back pressed the same sequence, and within 30 seconds was sent a n invoice. Really poor customer service sometimes. Is it worth the aggravation, long lines and long wait times and having to keep calling bakc? NO if you have a choice run from this company.

How can I be forced to leave a one star when they deserve zero. Our family rented a U-Haul 26ft truck from Bloomington, MN to Colorado and it nearly killed me and my family. They knowingly gave us a truck with faulty breaks that leaked out and could of killed us. After contacting U-Haul they chose to do nothing. I'm deeply disappointed and need to make renters aware. I usually rent from Budget and should have stuck with them. At least they would have not put our lives on the line knowingly. Please be AWARE!
I dropped off the truck earlier than I supposed to and got charged 27.00 for and after hours feed.
I got charged for additional 30 + miles on my feed because I didn't take pictures of the mileage before getting out the truck. I suppose to got a month free storage they charge me. If metro storage wasn't closed I would have use them. I got charge $26.00 for gas and I refilled the tank pass the level when I got. Moral over the store this place will cheat you! Record everything single thing! Once I get my $#*! out of storage I will never use uhual AGAIN! Go to Metro storage or public storage! You're better off hiring mover or using Budget or another truck company. I Didn't want to give there $#*! no one star.
The employees on Uhaul's online messaging platform are a joke. None of them know anything nor can/will they help you out with your problem. You wait for possibly hours to get ahold of someone and if you don't respond within 15 seconds, they close and end the chat and you get the privilege of starting all over again. They also cannot do anything more for you than you can do yourself... sad excuses for "help." Never go with Uhaul. They're hiring employees from the bottom of cereal boxes.
U-haul is a JOKE. Cancelled on me last minute. The woman I spoke to Aaliyah needs to be fired. Maybe she's never had a real job where she has to deal with the public. She would be better suited for mcdonald's. I will never rent from U-haul ever again.
Moving from one state to another this was a 10 hour drive. U-Haul chose 4 days even though we didn't need that long and did not state that the price was set and would not change if we returned the truck early. We had the truck a day and a half and they charged $700. They didn't say upfront that if we didn't have it 4 days it would still cost this amount and they would not do any adjustments. Do not use U-Haul they will scan you.
I scheduled an appointment to have a hitch installed 2 weeks in advance. I received a call on Sunday@ 5pm telling me that my appointment the next day will need to be rescheduled because they don't have the part. I was going out of town 2 days later and I needed the hitch installed. Why notify me so late?! They blamed FedEx. I use FedEx very often myself and I know that notifying me less than 24 hours is NOT FedEx's mistake, especially when I scheduled 2 weeks in advance. Honoring an appointment is a 2 way street!.
We booked our reservation four weeks in advance to pick up the trucks that were not at the locations specified.
Customer service told us that it was our responsibility to download the app and use the self Serve in order Is to order trucks.
Picked up the truck with no fuel in it put fuel in it. When we brought it back they made us fill it up even more.
It took us over three hours to get the trucks in the beginning which set our move back.
It took us an hour and a 1/2 just to drop it off with issues. We cleaned out the truck inside and out.
I had a horrible experience renting a truck from Uhaul. I had booked a "guaranteed reservation" months in advance in IL for my one way move to NH and was told less than 24 hours before that there were no trucks available for over a week. I had movers booked the next morning that I had already been charged for, through U-Haul none-the-less and was told the only option was to drive to Indiana to get a truck. When we arrived they didn't have the equipment we had rented but charged me for it, so we had to go back to another location in IL to get the equipment. We were only given $100 off of the invoice to accommodate 2 hours of driving, additional miles and tolls from IL. No one seemed to care or be accommodating of breaking the "Guaranteed Reservations" slogan. Very disappointed in my experience. Will not rent from Uhaul again.
Went to pick up location only to find out our truck and towing trailer not there and we had to drive 20 miles to a different location. Second location only had one piece that we needed. Off to storage unit where we were headed only to be told they don't have the large 1st floor unit at all. We were sent to second location where there was a much smaller unit and not able to get a car in it. Total bust! DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
