Their Medicare Advantage plan is ok. The perks like dental, vision, OTC & fitness are decent too. Customer service is terrible! Outsourced techs speaking broken english, dropped calls, long wait times are typical

After 3 weeks in and out of the hospital do to a stroke Unied Health Care decided a stroke isn't a reason to need rehab. The stroke was severe according to the neurologist and resulted in paralysis on the right side and swallow issues. The patient had an infection relapse all other issues have improved. Tried moving her to a acute rehab facility and United denied it. She now is to healthy they say. Only 3 weeks out from a major stroke, high blood pressure, heart arithmetic, diabetic, and still only eating pureed food. These guys do not belong in the health care business.

UHC sucks
January 6, 2025

I bought a new CPAP and because the company I bought it from does not give insurance codes they will not pay for it even though I have a prescription. I sent the receipt for paying the full price and they think I rented it. They don't care, they only want to deny your claims without good reason. They have not been helpful at all. Just a insurance scam gladly taking your payments.

I've been unfortunate to have UHC coverage, if you can call it that, at my last three places if employment.
Their premiums and deductibles are ridiculously high and they don't actually seem to cover anything outright. I've been practically forced to be through the nose for: repairs to an improperly applied tooth cap; a knee injection to treat arthritis that might allow avoiding surgery, etc. They're quick to deny claims and their customer service unaccountable and the worst. Today I wasted countless hours, called their offices 5 times, spoke with circa 10 reps because even though I have new coverage and just received new cards, half of their team denied that I actually had coverage and told me to contact my HR. The other half of idiots confirmed that I actually had coverage but they didn't understand and couldn't explain why my new coverage wouldn't show up on their website when my former coverages all show there! They again, told me I had to contact my HR to fix their problem?!? Does everyone else agree that the average american is being fleeced by these crooks?! When illegal aliens can go to the hospital and get free treatment because they rest of us are paying for it?! The same goes for car insurance! Something has to be done. These crooks need oversight and control. I wish I could leave 0-stars...

OTC program gives you $40 to play with. But they don't restock popular items that are out of stock. Also, used to be where if you wanted an item that was more than $40, you could pay the diff with a cc. Not no more. This leaves you with few choices and if you have money left over in you account after a purchase, it all goes to the vendor.
THIS REALLY SUCKS! I'm reevaluating my UHC plan for next year - may switch to BCBS.

I tried to make an appt with Moffit in Tampa. They will not accept United Healthcare Medicare. Insurance is a total waste! Call United Healthcare and was on the phone 20 minutes passed from recording to recording until I just hung up!

They Suck
February 26, 2024

Worst Medicare Advantage plan I have ever had. First claim of the year & they billed that out of network which it wasn't. Numerous call & always someone with thick accent to tell me I am not a member! When I tell them I am & explain problem I get no issues resolved. Had problems with their mail in pharmacy & called to be told I am not a member again. Will be switching next year. Unbelievable how incompetent they are.

Horrible
February 7, 2024

Greedy company that doesn't care how their referral process impacts patient quality of life. This company is actively working to prevent or significantly delay me from receiving timely care through their difficult referral process. They require your PCP to review both tests and treatment recommendations from the specialists and submit a duplicate referral just to get it covered. Since when does a PCP's opinion of my condition trump the specialist they referred me to in the first place? I was just hit with several thousand dollars in uncovered medical costs for basic tests and treatments that my rheumatologist and neurologist ordered and insurance refuses to pay because they have added an unnecessary layer of PCP referral red tape. It's February and my PCP's office has had to send over 20 referrals on my family's behalf for simple care for my family and the care of my chronic condition. The administrative burden on my life is insane, and I've lost at least 30 hours of my time in the last month trying to navigate UHC representatives, doctors' referral representatives, and my care is delayed due to the weeks it takes to get referrals processed. Not getting timely care due to the extra red tape made my condition worse and is actually increasing the number of doctor visits. Horrible.

NEW Customer, this was a big mistake. Tried to look for a DR, the one I found was no longer at that facility or with this insurance. Called and they sent me a list with the DR that is no longer with the insurance company. It's kind messed up if the data is incorrect to find a doctor

I've been in pain after a fall last April. I've tried physical therapy, acupuncture, laser, ultrasound and NOTHING is helping. Firstly, they denied a lumbar epidural because they "didn't see anything on ct or X-ray. Now they've denied my sacroiliac fusion for next Friday because they won't cover that type of fusion. So IF they approve this, I will have to go over two hours away to get a full fusion done. That ought to be real fun traveling back home. I guess I'll have to unsafely lay down while my husband drives. Another thing. They're ungodly deductible before they pay for any prescriptions. I've now had to completely go off my diabetes medication because it's freaking $700 a month! Thanks a lot UH 😡

I would give them zero stars if I could. My daughter had an infected toe and I called and they told me what Urgent Care to take her too and then denied the claim. Three months later she had strep throat and I was on vacation. They told me the Urgent Care down the street was again In Network and again denied the claim. I called and after 45 minutes the agent said it was indeed covered. Three months later I get a bill from Urgent Care for a bill that was higher than if she would have just gone and said she didn't have insurance! Seems like a total racket.

I spent 15 minutes chatting with rep only to be given a direct phone # to call & start process again. Auto system had me verify my Dib & zip code twice just to a rep to ask exact same questions. That took another 12 minutes just to be transferred to another system to be on hold, still on hold 20 minutes later. What is UHC doing about OTC customer service. They can't get this done correctly year to year & hold times are excessive

My name is Tiffany Kirkland I paid out of pocket over 6,000 for my daughter Nadia Grey which is on my policy. She had to see a TMJ specialist for nerve damage after getting her wisdom teeth pulled, the specialist was out of network, I received my the necessary documents to file my claim, which was a letter stating she needed this treatment, all the tests like MRI's and X-rays, and her super bill with all of my out of pocket expenses. I was told they received everything 11/09/23 and they had 30 days to review it; well it is now 1/2/24 I have not heard back from them, I called several times and got no where, I checked the website to see if my claim was updated, it was not, they have my current phone number and address. I feel like they could have called me no matter if they would reimburse me or not. This is very unprofessional of them I am hoping they contact me soon and give and update on the status of my claim.

They lie
December 26, 2023

I called in October to make sure my upcoming routine dental appointment would be covered. I had had some dental work earlier in the year but the representative assured me routine visits were covered outside of the maximum benefits allowable. They lied. My claim was denied and when I called them they ran me around and wanted me to submit an appeal in writing that may or may not be resolved in 30 days. I will not continue to do business with a company that is not truthful. As soon as enrollment opens I will jump ship. Do not trust UHC, they are not truthful.
