“Finding a care giver”

Patty S.
10/4/24

I did find a caregiver. But, I thought the site was difficult to navigate. Using the site for the first time was very challenging. I also think it is quite expensive although I didn't know how to find a caregiver any other way besides going through a company and that way you don't always get quality people. So maybe paying a bit more will be worth it in the end. I am hopeful.

“Charged for Service that did not occur”

I sent a request for pet sitting, however the provider could not accommodate the request, care.com still charged me. There is no phone number and they make it difficult to connect to discuss issues, you email and wait for a response. Horrible customer care

I joined this site a year ago hoping to find work. I've got great experience, awesome references. I need a full time position but the site never allowed me to list full time. I do not believe it's possible to apply for more than 100 jobs and only get two replies, both of which turned out to be scams. One person was a complete fake identity. The other just simply doesn't exist. Not in this realm anyway. Every time I apply for a position new pop ups generate that suggest I do this or that for another fee. I believe the positions posted are fake, generated to fit your interests by the information you give the site when completing your profile.

It took six attempts simply to get the site to accept payment. I don't always fill in my payment details correctly first time, but multiple attempts failed with "Java. Lang" error messages appearing on the form which is a terrible user experience and pretty frustrating when I just want to message people.

So I signed up with care.com as a nurse, looking for some part time jobs. There are tons that fit within my times/availability etc. but am unable to contact them. I was told I had to pay the monthly membership. However the people hiring can't reply to my message unless they also pay the monthly fee. Needless to say, nothing has come from this and it's almost impossible to get them to stop charging you for an "automatic renewal"

Be warned! Despite thinking you are signing up for a one, two or three month enrollment, this company will automatically register you for an ongoing subscription without your consent or control. It is then up to you to figure this out and cancel the subscription before you are charged for additional months. I did not realize this until I saw my credit card was charged for an additional month. When I reached out to the company (which is actually not easy since there is no phone number or email you can contact them directly at), they just tell you their fees are nonrefundable despite this being a direct result of their sneaky billing policies. I looked at other reviews online and saw that many others have complained about this.I will be reaching out to my credit card company as well.

HORRIBLE Customer Service if you can even call it that. Run by automated robotic emails so no discussion or rebuttal is available to dispute anything. The did not resolve or understand my concern and just kept sending automated emails saying issue resolved, which you cant respond to. They then cut off your email and don't allow any thru.
They show lists of people available before you pay and then after you find out they are old listings and these people are not available. No one answers ad and ones that do dont show up. I ordered 1 month only and let them know that they better not charge for December because I don't need them. Charged anyway and won't refund. Wont respond to a personal email I sent to explain my dire situation. Heartless immoral company. I should have read their bad reviews which say " Scam " everywhere.

Or pick any news reporting entity and slam care.com. We should all pick at least one news reporting agency and get the word out. These cowards are hiding behind their so called "Terms of Use" to screw us all one at a time. If we join together we will create a force to be reckoned with.
I demand a public apology from these bottom feeders. I demand they send emails out to everyone who was in receipt of their scathing "warning" about me and that my account was terminated retracting it all and apologizing to me personally for their attack on my character and reputation.
I'm not stopping until I receive some satisfaction.

537 reviews here, 6%.

I was leaving a bad review for another site and saw people rating how awful care.com is. This company is eventually going to be sued for millions. Like everyone else, my wife was auto billed. Sure it maybe posted on their website that they auto bill but most consumers don't see this. It's misleading and how much you want to bet this was planned from the start as a scheme to extract money from people?

What they should do is refund people who are auto billed but they don't. That's where this company does wrong. When someone requests a refund they should honor it. Companies like godaddy do this but they will retract your sale. Key difference.

Beware when putting your information on this site. You will become the target of fraudsters. My daughter was taken for $2,200 by a "Care.com client" who gave her a paycheck. We have yet to find a way to speak with an actual person about this situation yet.

I wish I had come to this site and read some of the reviews before getting enticed by a "special" discount on their one-year premium membership.
Profiles do not seem to be real; no response to inquiries.
Realized after the first week that it was a scam and tried to get a refund; was told they have a "no refund" policy... Offered to allow them to deduct the full, regular 1-month rate and refund the balance... No deal.
Bottom line... Find yourself a reputable business and stay far away from care.com.

Website and app don't work - can see message but can't send reply (keep getting error, try again later). This happened last weekend and again today, and stops me from communicating for days. I try to change my profile and it doesn't do anything. Overall, site isn't functional.

If you are looking to hire an illegal alien then care.com can definitely hook you up. Their website is horrible, the use policy is from a foreign country and should be challenged in a court of law. Do not use this site.

My husband is in law enforcement and i work for the county. We are both upstanding citizens in our community and do many benefits for charity. We were in need of a babysitter and saw care.com. They declined us with no reason. I laugh as i write this because if you are going to decline someone, you better back up those claims. I tell everyone not to use this site. The only way i can hurt them is through their pocket. Use indeed.com as an alternative. You`ve been warned

When did care.com change its policies? It used to be you could list your services and get replies for free as a basic member. Now they charge you coming and going. They want a ridiculous six month fee, plus they want to charge for these background checks, which should be cheaper. I even listed a job myself and they wanted to charge me to just read the replies. They also took my contact information out of my profile without my consent or telling me. This is a rip off. Avoid at all cost. Try another service like next-door.com or something else free.

Hi Kathy! It's still free to apply to jobs, but we require one party be a paying member in order to communicate on the site, this means families with Premium membership are able to reply to your applications if they wish to, even with your free account. Please note that families who are actively looking to hire end up upgrading their accounts to Premium so definitely keep applying for better chance of getting hired!

Like the woman who founded the company, I am a busy mom of 2 taking care of my ailing mother in law. The site terminated me after the first time I looked for a sitter with no cause or reason.

When I asked why they had they replied "you were once a member of care.com and were terminated" when I replied "that isn't true, I've never done anything like this before they sent 2 emails explaining they can terminate anyone at any time for no reason.

Aside from being bizarre that I was removed, it was a lot of effort and money to sign up and time I didn't have. I would strong recommend not using this service.

Care.com's billing practices are highly deceptive and they take advantage
Of busy, working parents. They will drain your bank account when you're not looking.

If you feel like you have been ripped off, follow this link and file a complaint with the attorney general of Massachusetts:

This company needs to be investigated and the founders should be jailed.

I gave this site a try and was greatly disappointed! I've received countless texts and emails from made up numbers and made up names from some sort of free texting app claiming that they need services and will pay money up front. Some claiming they will pay $400-500 to secure me as possible worker... all of which have ended up becoming fraudulent scammers out for my banking info. Now I get texts a few times a week even AFTER I took my profile down. Once they have your number they'll keep trying g to contact you by changing their number in their app. Don't even bother with that site! All the reviews on their site are fake in my opinion...

The Website gives the initial illusion of being free but in actuality, no caregivers are truly given because showing their pictures and their bios with no way to contact them is a bait and switch. I ended up paying for a one month subscription because we need the help, however then Care.com adds to the pressure and confusion with the way you state the background check "subscription" page. This could be NOT only more 'user friendly' but 'honestly' friendly as well. I'm disappointed.

Website is a pain to use, jobs close at random without warning, messaging is a pain, sitters are SUPER flaky and unprofessional. For my first job I had 44 applicants yet only a couple replied when I wrote back to their initial applications. Another showed up at my door before I had hired her, another cancelled at the last minute, another was a no-show, no-call for our interview.

After many weeks and a couple hundred dollars, I've ended up with ONE reliable sitter. I've had better luck with Craigslist and Facebook.

For what we pay as members, Care.com owes it to us to do better screening and quality control of the sitters they are charging us to learn about.

Care.com is a monthly subscription service. However, they do not provide you with any receipts of transactions or send confirmation when payments are made. A few months after signing up we discovered they had billed our card over $500 when the monthly rate was only $39. When we contacted the company they told us the additional charges were just temporary holds on the card and that they would be refunded. They never were so we had to get AMEX involved on fraudulent charges. Such a scam, and the worst kind, taking advantage of sick and elderly looking for help!

Had difficulty buying a premium membership, and there was no support phone line or chat service to help me out - only for premium members. I hope the irony of this is apparent. Once I managed to get my payment approved using an alternate network connection, I had to proceed through multiple hard-sell plugs for add-on services for additional money - very distasteful. Not loving the vibe of this site so far, and I haven't even tried to contact a care resource!

This service deserves negative stars. BEWARE! Unless you like paying someone for nothing, which is exactly what I got. Do not fall for the free trial offer. Nothing is free with this scam of a company. I signed up for the "free" trial and discovered 11 months later that I had been charged $35 a month for an automatic monthly renewal for what they call Premium Service. For that amount, I got one pet caregiver for one visit who stole my pain medication. Almost $400 later, my husband mentions a $35 charge that had been showing up in our bank statement that he had thought was related to MY medical care. Don't even bother to try to read their fine print--just RUN and find a service with more transparent and honest dealings.

MemberCare -. – Care.com Rep

Hi Susan,

We're very sorry to hear about your experience with Care.com.

When looking for a caregiver, you can join Care.com for free to browse caregivers, post a job, and receive applicants to your job posting. You can use the free services for as long as you want. It's a great way to test the service out before paying for it, and to get a feel for what kind of caregivers there are in your area!

When you decide to upgrade, as clearly stated on the upgrade page and in our Terms of Use, all of our subscriptions are automatically renewing. This is a feature that many members like because they can always have access to a community of caregivers. Additionally, we would not want to end communications between members prematurely.

Lastly, we are very sorry to hear about your experience with the care provider you had hired. We offer background checks and screening tools to help make the most informed hiring decision. This is definitely someone we would want to hear about directly, and hope you were able to report her to our safety team. You can do this directly through your account, or by emailing or calling us.

Again, our apologies, and we hope this helps clarify any confusion regarding our billing.

Regards,
Care.com Member Care Representative
