I did find a caregiver. But, I thought the site was difficult to navigate. Using the site for the first time was very challenging. I also think it is quite expensive although I didn't know how to find a caregiver any other way besides going through a company and that way you don't always get quality people. So maybe paying a bit more will be worth it in the end. I am hopeful.
I sent a request for pet sitting, however the provider could not accommodate the request, care.com still charged me. There is no phone number and they make it difficult to connect to discuss issues, you email and wait for a response. Horrible customer care
I had high hopes, and I tried Care.com for several reasons, cat care, elder care. It just doesn't work. The NUTS I have dealt with, no-shows, no response after contacting, its just one step away from Craigslist. Someone is making money off it! What a shame.
User interface is not smooth and requires too many clicks to get to what I am looking for. Outdated GUI on the profile pages also, and error messages that are unclear about why there's a problem or what to do next.

Hi Kate!
Thank you for your feedback! It looks like we haven't received a response from you. If you are still needing assistance, please message me or visit our Help Center.
Folks, please be cautious. I signed up for a one-month membership, and four months later, am still fighting charges that keep appearing on my credit card statement EVERY MONTH.
I have seen other comments like this from consumers. My suggestion is to pay via another method other than credit card. Or find a caregiver through another method altogether.
I've had a Care.com profile for almost 10 years. Never knew they charged. I could have found a neighborhood cat feeder easily! They told me credit card was for paying for services. ( I thought that meant cat sitting service). Not sure when they started auto charging annual fee but I'm sure it was not straightforwardly communicated. Now retired, I noticed the charge and cancelled account. Effective 11/17 (non refundable fee paid through 11/17). Seriously!?!.
I apologize if you had a negative experience with us. Our auto-renewal feature offers our members an easy way to continue to enjoy our services without interruption. We openly disclose this feature before a member subscribes and grant the ability for members to cancel their subscription. We're always able to refund charges within thirty (30) days of the most recent charge and if you have not used your account since the most recent renewal. Please send email us at careteam@care.com so that we could take a look at your account and see if you qualify for a refund. Thanks for your time!
I got contacted by four people who all sent me fraudulent checks and I lost a afresh thousand dollars because of it. I feel really stupid for falling for these scams. These people target trusting people who just want to help others. Anybody who uses care.com please be careful and do not take any money from anyone until you have met them in person. Don't fall for these.
This company is a huge SCAM! The premise of the business is great, but they trick you into long term subscriptions and automatically renewals to the subscription. The directions on their website to cancel your subscription puts you in a circular email pattern they are i'm sure fully aware of making it impossible to cancel your account. They only offer 'Downgrade" and not cancel which allows them to illegally keep charging you. I cannot wait until Dateline or 20/20 or some news show exposes their horrifically deceitful business practices. Beware don't EVER sign up with them..
Thanks for you feedback, Mary. I apologize if you had a negative experience with us. Our auto-renewal feature offers our members an easy way to continue to enjoy our services without interruption. We openly disclose this feature before a member subscribes and grant the ability for members to cancel their subscription. Best wishes!
Calling a subscription "Premium" and implying background checks are included, only to show "add-on" services after the subscription transaction feels manipulative and disingenuous. Makes me trust your company less.
Hello Megan, Thank you for your membership and your feedback. I am sorry you felt that the background check fees were not clear. All caregivers are required to have an initial Carecheck/background to join Care.com. We do offer options for more extensive background checks depending on the need of the member. For assistance, please reach out via our Help Center contact us link at help.care.com or Facebook Messenger. Please include Reference Number REV-010742 when you message.
I highly suspect many elder care postings are fake. I received a couple of calls over 1 1/2 years but analytically speaking absolutely this is a scam site.
Care dropped my pro-rating score from 100% to 40% due to a computer glitch. For the last 3 months they have promised to fix the issue with no end in site with this issue. Simultaneously and suspiciously I no longer receive emails from prospective clients. Most definitely both issues are intertwined. I would stay away from using this site. It's worthless full of scammers
I haven't yet tried to connect with a service provider but so far the website is very well laid out, there are plenty of service providers in my area, and a promo code was available to reduce my first premium payment.
Hi Mary,
We appreciate the great review, thanks! I will be sure to share your valued feedback with our product team.
Stay away from signing up because they will keep charging your without notification. When asked to refund they say oh you should have informed us sooner, it's too late to refund. I'm still going back and forth with these people for unnecessary charges. The service is useless and customer service is rubbish! They let just about anybody sign up for their website as babysitter or nanny! Stay away!
I did get some leads and hired someone from the site who turned out to be very unprofessional. I was very disappointed. I also had accidentally opened two accounts and forgot to cancel one so I was charged for two months I didn't use. I asked them as a courtesy to refund one month but they would not.
Hi Dawn, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience with the site. For assistance, please reach out via our Help Center contact us link at help.care.com or Facebook Messenger. Include Reference Number REV-015628 when you message.
Too many hoops and dark patterns to jump over. I am already paying for some of your service. Treat me a little more gently and don't try to optimize every dollar you can out of me - this is the fastest way to lose my recurrent dollars.
Hi Fernando, We are a paid subscription service and not a free service. I'm sorry if you thought otherwise and therefore felt mislead. That was never our intention. Many sites like ours charge a fee in order to be able to offer you the features our site offers. Otherwise we'd just be like any other free classified site with very little to offer.
This service has gone from a good partner to a deceitful money making bureaucracy. They have instituted auto renewal on your credit card payments without any warning or change management communication to participants. Their communications are canned and the network has declined considerably. When i first used them a few years ago, I had a lot of good options, this time, i received nothing. Be careful, they will take your money.
Hi T. K.,
We're sorry to hear about your experience with Care.com. All of our subscriptions are set to automatically renew, as stated clearly on the upgrade page as well as in the terms of use that you agree to upon enrollment. It is ultimately up to the member to cancel the subscription when he or she is done using it. This is an option in the Account and Settings page that you will have as soon as you finish the upgrade process.
Additionally, we are sorry that you were unable to find a caregiver this time around. We recommend posting a job as well as searching for and messaging caregivers that you think will be a good fit to get the maximum results through the service.
We again apologize for your experience, and hope you were able to find a caregiver who met your needs!
Regards,
Care.com Member Care Representative
My daughter applied for a dog-sitting job that was a total scam- she wound up getting threats that someone would "slice her up" if she didn't cash a fraudulent check. No help from care.com but we did go to the police.
As a person that requires caregiver help, I have used this site for over two years with excellent results. I have hired 4 part-time helpers, 2 are still with me. It takes patience to find the right person. Check references and use common sense when interviewing. It's been a very good resource for me.
I posted a job for cleaning services on care.com and got a few responses. I employed a lady named Victoria S. She had referrals, a background check and was professional. Turns out to be a junky who after four cleaning services decides to steel my personal electronics and prescription medications. The only thing care.com cared to do was cancel her membership. This site is unsafe... I would never use it again and people should be afraid to use it for the care of there pets or children. If this kind of person entered my house and stole my things I don't want to imagine what some people can do to someone's child or pet. Scary experience.
Hey Adriana! Safety is our number one priority due to the nature of our business and we are concerned with the allegations you mention about the housekeeper you hired. Do you mind sending us an email at careteam@care.com with more information so our Safety Team can take a further look? Thanks so much!
The ability to read message should be a part of having an account. Add a care.com fee onto services used on this site rather than a subscription that may not prove cost effective for a care-seeker which will turn them off from using the services at all in the future.
Hi Eric, We are a paid subscription service and not a free service. I'm sorry if you thought otherwise and therefore felt mislead. That was never our intention. Many sites like ours charge a fee in order to be able to offer you the features our site offers. Otherwise we'd just be like any other free classified site with very little to offer.
I put my wife on this site. She is lawyer from Costa Rica, with great credentials. Not one person responded. We did the $59 background check, even less. I call and called no one ever talks live another bad sign
DO NOT USE.
We are on urban care another scam
7 months after cancelling with them, they started spontaneously charging me again without me having signed up again and without sending Me any kind of renewal notification or billing notification, like I used to get when I was a willing customer. They refuse to refund anything beyond 30 days. Please beware that when you cancel you HAVE to get some sort of unique confirmation number for it to hold water with your credit card company or bank when you try to dispute the charges. Of course care will say they don't give out transaction or confirmation numbers by you simply have to insist. I regret ever signing up.
Care.com edited my profile bio without my consent. They changed it so it included grammatical errors and misinformation. I was not aware until I looked at my public profile. I have no idea how long a grammatically incorrect bio was present next to my name! So unbelievably frustrating! Thanks, Care.com, for making it harder for me to get a job by making me look like an uneducated idiot.
Also, I have had problems getting photos approved by them, even though I followed all of their guidelines. Eventually did get one approved after communicating with the service department extensively.
Care.com takes advantage of busy parents that think they are just paying $35 for one month of service by continuing to charge them even if they are no longer using the service. Do not give them your credit card number! They will not refund you. They will hide behind the same statement that you should have known they would continue to charge you based on the fine print. This is a very unethical company that only cares about making money. They do not care about their customers. Hopefully more people will realize this is a scam. What a perfect setup... overcharge customers and then state that the customer is at fault for misunderstanding or forgetting to cancel.
Hi Heather, As stated in our Terms of Use as well as twice on the upgrade page, all of our subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled. We have a strict refund policy here, and per policy will refund the most recent charge on an account if it is within 30 days, and if there has been no activity on the account.
As soon as you upgrade the account you can select the downgrade option in your Account & Settings page. This will give you the full Premium access for the amount of time you paid for, and will then cancel rather than renew the subscription at the end of that time.
We apologize if the policy was misunderstood, and do hope you were able to find the care that you were looking for. Best wishes!
This site is a scam - Buyer beware! They happily take your money and don't provide anything in return. You can browse the site in search of people to hire but must pay in order to communicate with them. They show all these people who are available to take on new clients. After I paid, I reached out to numerous people in search of a regular housekeeper. More than 1/2 never responded. The ones who did were not accepting new clients (even though Care.com showed them available to hire prior to paying the subscription). I contacted Care.com for a refund and was told it's not their problem if people don't respond or update their profiles. Of course they've refused to refund any money. I've now taken the dispute to my credit card company.
I was tricked into signing up for this site while being desperate to find childcare. They essentially prey on peoples needs with false advertising and spurious statistics. I was told there were over 1,854 suitable carers in my area, but after I subscribed and looked there were only about 5 and none of them had checked into the site for over 3 months. If this was not on the internet and subject to usual trading controls it would be shut down. It seems that the general view is this site is rubbish, so the fact they are still up makes me conclude this is actually a scam site.
Tip for consumers:
AVOID - Care.com is a Scam site
Called them many times to cancel the subscription but it was not done- they refused to refund money- they have a small line that says that after one month they will continue to bill you- there is no notification or email from them so please beware- way of cheating people
Just cancelled my subscription, I don't recall about reading about the automatic renewal, I would have never signed up, and no phone number on your website to call? That is very shady... shame on you!
Hi Sarah, We do state that all of our subscriptions auto-renew twice on the upgrade page and once in our Terms of Use, I apologize if you missed this. You have the ability to set your account to downgrade at anytime throughout your membership with us, which you can do under your "Account & Settings" in the "Membership Information" section by selecting the downgrade option. Our Member Care Team would be happy to answer any questions you may have and can be reached at (877)-227-3115 or at careteam@care.com.
