Chairish has a rating of 2.1 stars from 159 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Chairish most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and white glove problems. Chairish ranks 680th among Furniture sites.
I received my first purchase today. It is a triple chinoiserie dresser. I paid $650 for an exquisite piece of furniture. It arrived spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. The driver, Rod was very nice. I have 4 other pieces coming and I can hardly wait. I could never have found this without Chairish. I plan on selling some pieces, too. Chairish, you make furniture shopping amazing. While others are waiting 3 or months or more for pressed wood from inexpensive furniture stores, I am looking at my beautiful dresser that came in 2 weeks. I would love to keep you as my own secret furniture place, but that would be selfish. I hope everyone keeps up this kind of quality recycling.
Who charges their customers an additional service fee of $14.00 to purchase merchandise from their platform? WTH. A $14 service fee is added to each purchase to support their platform. How is that my responsibility? The fee should be absorbed by Chairish or seller. Such a rip off!
Ordered two Asian garden seats. Chairish pushed to switch shipping company from Fedex to BMC. Being clueless, I agreed only to discover later that BMC does NOT offer tracking. Multiple requests for assistance from either Chairish customer service or the vendor, Todd Hase, btw, have predictably lead to nowhere. Typical run-around tactics: every time a different customer support person, wrong phone numbers, unanswered calls, unanswered emails. Almost a month and a half now since I parted with my hard earned money and nothing yet. STAY AWAY. I predict that after my review someone in their damage control will post a fake super positive review. Don't trust them!
I want to warn anyone who is considering purchasing from this online company. After searching their website, I found pictures of a used cabinet that was in very good condition with a few minor dings. When the cabinet arrived, it had many many additional scratches and dents and broken pieces that had been sloppily painted over. These defects were NOT present in the pictures online. Even the delivery men commented on the poor condition so I refused delivery and requested a refund. Chairish has refused to refund my money claiming that I must pay for the shipping to and from which is in excess of $900.00. The cabinet cost $720.00 I asked them to look at the pictures online and compare them to the pictures that I took and they simply said that it is a used piece of furniture and I should have expected blemishes. Please avoid doing business with Chairish.
The results are in. I filed a dispute with my credit card bank, and in the interim Ivan at Chairish issued me two $25 apology reimbursements. My dispute was approved by the bank. So unless Chairish comes back within X days with a viable argument to show why I wasn't cheated (not going to happen), the remaining charge (minus the reimbursed $50) is forever negated. This is precisely the reason most credit card contracts include at least some degree of consumer protection! Even PayPal has a buyer guarantee. I encourage abused consumers to fight the good fight. It may take a lot of time to present your case, but it feels good when you win.
Ivan at Chairish got back to me with the final decision on my having been cheated by one of their sellers (Tish & Fox, of Norwalk, CT) and it was just another big eff off to the customer. He said, indirectly, that it was my fault for not rejecting the item within 48 hours (that was not possible, given delivery issues) and suggested, again, that I try to sell the worthless thing on Chairish (so they can get another cut, and someone else can be cheated)! I cannot believe that a business can sink this low. I am awaiting my bank's decision on the disputed credit card charge. I am also going to look into filing a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
After several email exchanges about with Ivan at Chairish, I am still left high and dry. The last email said he was going to see what the seller might do for me. This is a seller who altered the listing photo and lied about the condition of the item, so they aren't going to do a thing about it, I am certain. Between dealing with Chairish and my (credit card) bank, I have spent a few hours trying to recoup around $250. It is not worth my time, but I so hate to see the bad people win! So I am going to pursue this with the bank. At least I know that neither the seller nor Chairish has my money, because the bank is holding back payment during the dispute.
I purchased an antique ceramic serving piece from this auction site. The item was listed as having "no imperfections," and the photos of the item showed no chips. When I received the item there was a large, darkened (so it was very old damage) chip on the underside of the plate. I looked at the photo from the Chairish listing, and sure enough, the chip had been (badly) photoshopped out! Because of issues with delivery, my 48-hour window for returning the rubbish, worthless piece of crockery had elapsed. I contacted Chairish about this purposeful deception, and this is the reply I got:
"I'm so sorry to learn that the Antique English Cheese Dish & Cover did not meet your expectations. [NB: Notice that there is no mention that the seller lied and altered the photos.] Given the unique, one-of-a-kind nature of most products sold through Chairish, we do our best to provide a fair and equitable approach to returns.
Most items sold on Chairish are preowned and have wear consistent with age and history [NB: Again, avoiding the fact that the listing was faked and intentionally deceitful.] The Product Details are provided by the Seller and are expected to accurately describe the item. While the condition of any pre-owned item may be subjective, we ask our Sellers to be thorough in their descriptions and photos to ensure there are no surprises [NB: They take no responsibility for the dishonesty of the sellers they feature on THEIR Website.]
All of our shipped orders are subject to a 48-hour return window and once that window has closed, all sales are considered final...
You may want to consider listing your unwanted purchase on Chairish, as a way to offset your purchase. If you would like additional details on how to list, we are here to help."
So, not only does Chairish dodge responsibility, they suggest that I pass this rubbish in to another, poor, naive Chairish buyer, and so make some more money for Chairish!
I am truly floored by this. I have purchased many items from FirstDibs and other resellers and auction sites, and although I have had mixed results, I have never been so blatantly ripped off as I was by Chairish. I am going to pursue this through my payment service, which has a buyer guarantee.
The seller was Tish&Fox in Norwalk, CT. Be aware that often sellers who get bad reviews will just change their seller listing names, so knowing this is no guarantee they won't still be selling on Chairish.
Rude, unprofessional, uneducated " customer service*. In my experience they have allowed fraud as both a buyer and seller and change their policies ar whimthey think they are entitled to make financial decisions despite not being owners or consignors just brokers. Yet in Ponzi scheme like modus they keep your money even after you ship merchandise. Literally sometimes for months So at any given time they have millions of their customers dollars and millions of customer merchandise and could just close down...
I agree with the negative comments on here. Horrible buying experience. Item showed up significantly damaged and not at all what was described in ad. Charish customer service bumbled around and came back saying that it was as represented in ad. Clearly and totally not the case. Not even close. They are in this with the seller to get their cut. Stay away. I wish we would have seen these reviews before we purchased through them. They are a scam. The piece of furniture we got from them is literally trash. I'm trying to call Charish again now and am on-hold for a long time and it just came on and said that they are all busy and I need to leave a message and continued attempts to reach them will only slow them down... tells you something...
I've sold a few items and bought several through my shop BlackthornCo in Chicago. I truly don't understand why people are screaming in these comments. The images I can assure you are not photoshopped. In fact I was hoping they would help me with my lighting a little bit LOL. If you're unsure about an item I would ask the seller to add more photos. Maybe because I'm an honest seller and I only sell things that I would personally use in my home that these comments are so strange to me. But I truly depend on this site to sell excellent products and I know there are others like myself who use it to buy excellent products. I think a lot of the people on here sound really uptight and almost fake?
DO NOT use Charish! I ordered a china pitcher, it took weeks to get it mailed to me. I had to email multiple times. They charged me immediately. When it arrived it was smashed into a million pieces. It was in a big box with one thin layer of bubble wrap. Most of the box was not filled, just air. They would not refund my money. Buyer beware! Martha
If you wish to buy something on Chairish, you have to know that in the price you will pay, is included a 20 % website commission.
It basically means that 20% of the price is not for the item you bought but for the Chairish company.
Also, avoid the white gloves service: it is not reliable and not a white gloves service...
Expect a very long delay to be delivered.
Be careful with the description: the Chairish curator know nothing about antiques and there are a lot of fake or wrong description.
We all need a website like Chairish to find nice and affordable antiques, but It looks like if Chairish only wanted to make money and did not care about their customers.
Chairish has become my go to shopping site for unique furnishings and home decor. I used it to put together a beautiful selection of vintage barware including Pierre Cardin rocks glasses, a Dorothy Thorpe cocktail pitcher and several vintage ice buckets. And now they have an augmented reality tool that you can use to see if a piece of furniture or art will look great in your home. I used it to see how a lucite lamp would look in my living room. Perfect! The lamp looks great and it is so much fun to shop that way!
They sold my $1,300 DWR designer sofa bed for $100 by mistake. When I tried to stop the sale and return the item the manager never returned my call despite being told they are aware of the problem and will contact shortly. Week later they deliver the sofa to the buyer against my wishes and send me a cheque for $70. I had paid $6,000 for the sofa.
These people are unprofessional and unethical.
Obvious, their web developer is new, like the company, and is difficult and time-consuming to list on. Finally had to call support after numerous failures. And then they decided that $1000 new high end brand vanity was not the right fit for their site. Of course, I saw their other vanities and they were nothing special. No future of an ipo or takeover for this mismanaged grouo.
I bought a salt and pepper shaker. Sent were 2 pepper shaker with a cork bottom that is not removable to fill up the shakers. I tried to return but it was a few days more then 48 hours. I was not home due to covid to open the package within 48 hours. Customer service said no returns. I would never shop here again.
I purchased a vintage desk from a seller in Texas had it shipped to Georgia. Chairish
Email me with updates and within two weeks was delivered by A. J. Johnson,
A. J. went above the (door to door) he moved it to the second floor. The vintage
Oak desk was exactly as seller description. Love it
I purchased an Arne Jacobson Series 7 chair to match a set we already have. The chair was not as advertised. The legs had been modified/repaired. The front legs are shorter than the back legs and the chair overall sits lower than original so doesnt match our set. Chairish was unhelpful. So despite inaccurate and misleading description (failure to disclose defect) they would not help us.
As a trade member I found their customer service to be abysmal. I was told that an order was canceled because it was no longer available 3 weeks after purchasing and only after repeated attempts to find out why it had not shipped as promised. I believe either the seller was dishonest or Charish is inept at processing and tracking transactions. Either way, Charish does not meet my professional standards and I would certainly not recommend them.
After accepting my offer, the seller turned around and claimed it was not available. I contacted him and Chairish and was troubled by conflicting statements about how this had happened. Chairish reached out to the seller to re-list the item.
Chairish doesn't care whether its customers get what they order and like what they get. Chairish is a scam that sells over-priced delivery, gives shoppers no way to communicate directly with sellers, and posts misleading ads that it refuses to correct. I ordered two chairs but got one. Chairish charged me $299 to deliver that one chair - same price as it would have been for two - then refused to correct the mistake. They admitted the ad said "chairs." Furthermore, they advertised "white glove service," but the shipper did not return my phone calls, left the chair in the lobby of my building, did not get my signature for delivery, and did not even put the chair in a box! Chairish brags about "curating" its items and verifying provenance, but they refused to correct a mistake even after it was brought to their attention. Terrible business!
I absolutely cannot believe that I purchased a sofa on the charish website, and was told the following day matter-of-factly by the seller that she had sold it already the previous day but forgot to take it off the site. And then she instructed me how to go about getting my own refund she wouldn't even handle it for me. This site has gone completely downhill it's horrible. In addition to me finally getting my refund I don't get my money back for 5 days. So they sold something twice and don't give me a refund for 5 days and acted like it was no big thing. Do not shop here
These reviews say it all... some happy sellers out there seem to be making some coin off of a pretty large census of unhappy buyers... hmmmmmmmm...
As an unhappy Chairish.com buyer with similar experiences to many of the buyer reviews listed here and elswhere... I'll just leave it at "Ditto, what she said... the Buyer, that is!"
I purchased a vintage coffee table. It was advertised as possibly having small defects or signs of age and unaltered, but instead had two huge cracks/breaks across the entire table. The cracks/breaks were poorly repaired and two braces were hammered into the underside to keep the table in one piece. Also, an unknown substance was applied over the original finish in an attempt to hide the cracks/breaks in the table. This substance melted in the heat during shipping and adhered to the shipping materials. When the shipping materials were removed, pieces of the finish were pulled off. The table was sticky, congealed and gunky. I sent Chairish photos and they have stated they will return my money "once the item is picked up" by a shipper - no date given. They are absolutely scammers and are aiding this seller in perpetrating fraud.
Tip for consumers:
They are aiding and abetting fraud.
Products used:
The coffee table is not useable.
After spending close to 2K on a piece of furniture, I cannot get it delivered. You never speak with a human being; they hold your money and you spend hours trying to get a delivery. Never again. They should be sued. I just may have to.
I purchased a shelving system that was delivered partially broken.
The back and forth with "customer service" took so long that they completely stopped listening to my original complaint of paying too much for a broken product, and I ended up paying for "white glove delivery" of a broken piece of *. Like my shelf, Chairish is a piece of *.

I ordered a chair where the extensive damage was hidden in the pic.
Chairish cust service has been totally unhelpful.
They often dont return phone calls and when they do they are not honest.
The situation is fraudulent and they wont cooperate
Use Watfair who are totally cooperative. Do not use Chairish
Just spoke to Chris, after trying to purchase multiple buys, given run around repeatedly. This is least expensive purchase I have ever attempted to purchase on line, yet this is most difficult purchase, when I asked to escalate this to admistrator, "chris has left the chat" and I was given an email address to further the issue. Disgraceful
I've been an antiques dealer for over 15 years at this point. And been on Chairish since 2017, they are hands down the best platform for selling antiques I've used and I've literally used them all (eBay, Etsy, Dibs, OKL, etc.) The 20% fee seems a bit harsh at first, but frankly where else can you list your entire inventory for free, have the platform handle ALL of the processing, customer service and shipping logistics, and only pay after the fact? Nowhere, that's where.
In short, love Chairish, looking forward to continuing to grow my business with it.
