“Wow! My 1st purchase was just delivered!”

Kristine S.
11/24/21

I received my first purchase today. It is a triple chinoiserie dresser. I paid $650 for an exquisite piece of furniture. It arrived spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. The driver, Rod was very nice. I have 4 other pieces coming and I can hardly wait. I could never have found this without Chairish. I plan on selling some pieces, too. Chairish, you make furniture shopping amazing. While others are waiting 3 or months or more for pressed wood from inexpensive furniture stores, I am looking at my beautiful dresser that came in 2 weeks. I would love to keep you as my own secret furniture place, but that would be selfish. I hope everyone keeps up this kind of quality recycling.

“Adding a service fee to make a purchase on Chairish is outrageous!”

L B.
3/19/24

Who charges their customers an additional service fee of $14.00 to purchase merchandise from their platform? WTH. A $14 service fee is added to each purchase to support their platform. How is that my responsibility? The fee should be absorbed by Chairish or seller. Such a rip off!

My first experience was a waste of time I am so very happy I did not continue my purchase... Sellers are very inexperienced, they do not communicate, there was no response to the status of my offer after 72 hours and they take the money out of your account during the waiting period and it is not returned for another 3-4 days. I had to contact Cherish and the Seller... I Thank all the reviews before I continued with the sale as they verified my suspicion... I dodged that bullet... proceed with caution when buying... there is something that is not right goin on with this Company and I am sure in the future they will be charged with some kind of fraud activity. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE REVIEWS. You have saved me from a big headache that I was feeling I was headed for!

Sold a Thornet style bentwood bench settee with no problems. I submitted 12 photos and noted that there was some wear on the wood. Plycon when they picked up the settee also noted the worn areas. It was shipped from New York to Texas without any problems. More importantly, even with Charish's commission, I got $200 more than the purchased price recommended by a real estate agent.

Tip for consumers:
If you have questions regarding the condition of an item, communicate with the seller and ask for more detailed photos.

The company does little to protect buyers from scams and false advertising. The armoire I purchased was falling apart and was even different measurements from what was listed. Because I did not figure out the advertising was false until I brought the armoire home, the company will not help in any way. I basically wasted almost a $1,000.

I love Charish! Live the name and everything it stand for. I have sold quite a few items and no complaints. To those of you leaving negative comments you have to be patient when receiving larger items. That is listed when you buy that it might take a few weeks. You have to remember; items are coming from all over the world. Read the policies and procedures and you won't complain. Love you CHARISH!

I sold an item on Chairish and the shipping company never contacted my to arrange pick up after 3 weeks of waiting and calling the shipping company called Plycon, I was told my paperwork on the sold item was missing.! Then the customer who bought the item got tired of waiting for the item and cancelled the transaction!

Despite being well merchandised, the complete lack of transparency on this site makes me not want to transact with them. As if the 20% charge to sellers is not enough, Chairish also hits the buyer with a "Service Charge" of about 3%. Unless something has changed recently, nowhere on the site is this clearly quantified.

In addition, their shipping charges are often preposterous. They hide behind a canned reply:

"We do understand that in many cases our flat rate shipping charges may seem high as compared to traditional retailers. We do not mark up our shipping costs but most of our listings are one of a kind, preowned and unpackaged. As a result they require professional packaging to ensure that they make it to their new home in one piece."

If it is not them that is marking up the shipping and handling, someone is and they certainly are not providing any oversight to ensure the charges are fair.

I bought an antique on their site. I received emails stating that the item would be shipped within a couple weeks. We waited longer than that and then emailed them several times. They then told us that the because the seller "lived in a remote area" they didn't know when they could "get a shipper to go there". (The seller lives in Idaho, not far from Pocatello, and on major local highways.) I pressed for some kind of time frame and they evaded answering. Finally we had to request a full refund as we knew they had no intention of shipping the item. (The original charge to our bank is attached below. They charged us immediately upon buying and never shipped). They did not return phone calls unless threatened. We are very disappointed that we now will not get the antique item we bought and paid for (including shipping) in good faith. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SITE!

I purchased a marble lamp from Chairish.com. The lamp was advertised as in "good, original condition" but arrived broken and re glued. After sending 17 photos illustrating the damage, Chairish steadfastly insisted the item was perfect. I had to take up my complaint with VISA's fraud department. AVOID THIS DISREPUTABLE SELLER.

When the dust settles and the pandemic is over we will look back at the companies that helped their fellow American. Chairish will not be on that list.

A day after San Francisco was ordered to shelter in place Chairish sent an email to its sellers describing how they had their back. "Just change the shipping dates on your items," they said. What they didn't mention, knowing full well the financial peril most of these small businesses were facing, was that they would continue to take their 20% commission on every sale. Fine. You're opportunistic but you can't admit it. Nothing new here.

Then that same day they posted on Instagram to their customers. "Small business needs you. Chairish supports 10,000+ small businesses..." Supports? So know you're positioning yourself as a supportive company to encourage sales. No, just no. You don't get to have it both ways. Support means support. And in this case it's clear what that should be, to help ease the financial burden for the many small businesses you work with. I posted a comment to their Instagram (see pics attached) calling them out and it was deleted within minutes with no DM follow up, nothing. Speaks volumes.

So what can you do as a consumer? Find your item on Chairish by all means, but do the extra research and find the actual small business' website to make the purchase. At least you know you will actually be supporting a small business not a greedy shameless company.

I ordered two petrified wood tables from Chairish. The tops arrived in a crate, the bases in a box. The tops were perfect, the bases had scratches. I reached out to Chairish and was told {The seller describes the item as being "Handmade, hand-polished, naturally formed grains, patterns, colors and minimal cracks & spots"}. I responded that the tops are exactly as described, the bases, however, are not "naturally formed" and should not be damaged! SEE MY PHOTOS BELOW.

Thanks for reaching out. The seller describes the item as being "Handmade, hand-polished, naturally formed grains, patterns, colors and minimal cracks & spots". I've reviewed the photos that you provided and find that they are consistent with the listing description.

I've been a Chairish shopper for awhile and usually I am satisfied, but my latest purchase never arrived. And after going back and forth trying to get my refund, I finally had to file a fraud claim with my bank to get my refund. This is the second time I had to get a third party involved. I purchased a $2,500 French barometer and when it arrived, it was damaged through shipping. I felt it wasn't wrapped properly for such an expensive antique from the 18th century. Again, after going back and forth with Chairish and contacting the BBB, I got a refund. This has been my experience with Chairish so good luck!

WE source hundreds of items pre year for use in the film and fashion industry from across all platforms and we have had multiple NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCES with this company. There is no way to get through to customer service. None of the dealers ever answer questions regarding condition issues or shipping. If we have a customer who wants to negotiate an offer, the conversation is publicly displayed as there is no way to contact the dealer in private. today, they AGAIn shipped an item we had asked them to hold for several weeks before shipping as we are away on another project. Would absolutely NEVER recommend this company.

Chairish is just another self-serving, greedy, big corporation -- taking advantage of struggling small businesses while gouging profits and marketing themselves as a caring, virtuous company. Their shipping policies alone should squelch that myth. You could arrange your own shipping for a fraction of what they're charging. Some of their sellers might not be professional or service minded. But you can find the good sellers because they are selling on other platforms: 1st Dibs, Ruby Lane, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, ebay, etc. -- and on their own websites. You can find customer reviews so that you know they're legit and respected by their buyers. Do your homework. When you see something you like on Chairish, then find your seller elsewhere on the internet. Buy direct from the seller and save yourself some heartache (and dollars). There's no reason to support the corporate greed of modern robber barons in a lavish, high-rent district of downtown San Francisco when they're overcharging on shipping and treating their small business "partners" like... dirt.

Tip for consumers:
Find the name of the seller for the items you want. Then do your research and find other platforms where that seller is selling: ebay, Ruby Lane, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, 1st Dibs -- buy directly from the seller.

I had a very disappointing experience with Chairish.com. This business is a fraud. They sell fake goods in the name of antiques. I purchased antique lamp shades from a seller ''two worlds arts'' on Chairish who had advertised it as "In Original condition". When I received the items, they were NOT at all as described on their website and were infact poorly painted. I immediately contacted customer service(within 48 hours as per their requirement) to return this item & requested refund. There was ZERO customer service response, they tried their best NOT to respond to my request. I was finally told by chairish that seller was not responsive to their emails when infact the same seller was again allowed to sell same lamp shades on their website. With a lot of haggling they finally agreed to issue refund which on reciept was actually less than half of amount i had actually paid. Never refunded my full due amount. Also they made me pay heavy shipping costs both ways. I warn everyone NEVER to buy from Chairish. They were an ugly experience to deal with.

Sellers, read this before you waste your time. I am downsizing and have many pieces of fine furniture and decor to sell. I spent hours photographing and submitting to Chairish. It takes them at least a week for their "curators" to look and approve the items you list. Then they told me the photos were not acceptable. Each item needs a separate photo. For example, my china cabinet could not be listed with its matching table and both items could not be in the same photo. I spent an entire day re-photographing the items and resubmitting. Then I waited about another week for review. One piece of furniture sold at less than asking and the buyer paid for freight delivery by Chairish. I was advised the freight company would contact me. A week went by with no contact. I also received no payment. Curious, I read the fine print on the website and saw that sellers don't get paid until the buyer receives their item undamaged and is happy with it. If the buyer chooses to return it, the seller has to pay the return freight. In my case, the item was being shipped from New York State to Oregon and the freight would have been about $350. The selling price of my item was $349. So, if the freight company damaged my item and the buyer was unhappy, I would receive nothing for it. I could not bring myself to give my well cared for furniture to an unknown freight company without being paid for it first. This selling platform is not for me. I don't want to become a victim. I cancelled the order, deleted all my listings, and intend to sell my items locally for local pickup. Please be cautious.

Tip for consumers:
Sellers beware you don't get paid until buyer is 100% happy that item was received undamaged by shipper. If shipper damages, sellers don't get paid.

Cynthia S. I bid on this chair and waited the 72 hours, no one else bid. It expired and all I got was a lousy note stating that Charish takes full responsibility that the seller didn't respond. REALLY! Seems like I would have won this chair by default. This is not the only time that a seller has not responded. Why put your chair on Charish if you don't respond to a genuine query? This is NOT GOOD BUSINESS. I could have purchased a chair somewhere else if I knew Charish would handle buiness like this, This is horrible business practices. I should contact the BBB. Charisg take some responsibility and just don't send an I'm Sorry note. Stand by your buiness and make sellers follow through on the sale.

Never use this company! Exceptionally poor experience that in my opinion amounted to civil fraud and theft. Purchased two "matching" upholstered Palecek chairs for $600 plus shipping of $400+. The descriptor from seller and Chairish indicated the chairs had some upholstery fading due to age but otherwise in great shape/condition Upon arrival, it was clear to both me and shipper that these chairs were not matching or in great shape. The upholstery was randomly discolored to the point where each panel looked like a different color/hue. I rejected delivery. Attempted to resolve with Chairish after taking several photos of the chairs and sent to them. Both shipper and I attempted to contact Chairish with negative results. Shipper even commented that "he knew something was wrong" once unpacked. Chairish refused to acknowledge the issue relying upon their listing photo which made the chairs appear in great condition and diminished any disparity in upholstery. They kept my chairs, proposed an unacceptable resolution and deducted shipping fees without my approval to ship back and then would not give me my chairs unless I paid another $400+ shipping fee. In short, they stole $800+ from me after issuing an unapproved refund to close out their short inquiry and I don't even have the chairs.

I held off on giving a review because I hoped I would be able to resolve this with the customer service team, but honestly their "customer service" is a complete joke. After checking in weekly for months only to be met with complete radio silence, they seem to have resolved the issue by siding with the seller who made a misleading ad that showed a complete Hundevad bookcase in every photo, yet I only received the top half. Even the shipper thought this was suspicious, but the seller just waved them off and insisted that I "didn't buy the bottom half."

Now Chairish says "The seller confirmed that the bottom part is a credenza which is not included in the listing" as if that absolves them of allowing misleading ads on their site. If these were separate items, then why were they shown together in every photo? Why does Chairish allow misleading ads on their website and refuse to protect customers from them? Don't buy from Chairish. If something goes wrong, you'll be out a lot of money and left with an unusable item.

Tip for consumers:
My number one tip for using this site is: don't.

None, I was given half of an item which is unusable on its own.

I recently purchased my first item from Chairish. As a vintage seller myself, I normally buy from local businesses but fell in love with something on Chairish and figured I was still supporting a small business through the purchase. The item listed was a lucite chair in "great vintage condition" with "some imperfections" but "unaltered." (First picture) What I received was far from that with a full break in the lucite that was shoddily glued back together and a seat that had food caked in it (second picture).

I thought purchasing through Chairish would give me protection as a buyer, knowing that a refund would cost them nothing in the grand scheme of things. Instead I got a series of more and more insulting emails from their customer service team. I tried calling multiple times but everyone said they were the wrong person to talk to about this.

The last email was extremely condescending, trying to imply that I didn't know what vintage meant, that Chairish specializes in "shabby chic" and I should be aware of condition for an item from the 1970s. I have sold multiple items through Chairish as well as on my own website. I understand "normal vintage wear" vs "poor/altered condition" and the responsibility as a seller to disclose condition. I was fortunately able to get refunded through my credit card company, but am still shocked at the "service" I received from such a large, reputable company. I will never do business with the site again.

Found some amazingly cool lamps, paid about 3X too much for them, but wanted them anyhow! Buyer beware! Seller asked me to wait a few weeks till he returned from vacation to send items, of course I said no problem. Lamps arrived later while I was out of town. Plugged them in when I got home - one lamp went off/on by itself inadvertently and one's chain was broken. Clearly, the seller knew the items were broken. The lamp shade was messed up also, but that was probably a result of poor packing. Worked with CS and they tried to push it off because it was 48 hours past when the last package arrived. I sent the photos like they wanted and everything immediately. They kept sending me the same email over and over again - like they pretended I hadn't sent them the email with photos and information. In hindsight, I'm sure this is their way to not honor their word (being honest in the description). What a terrible company. I paid so much I really thought the service would be amazing if I needed it. BUYER BEWARE!
