Chairish has a rating of 2.1 stars from 159 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Chairish most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and white glove problems. Chairish ranks 680th among Furniture sites.
I received my first purchase today. It is a triple chinoiserie dresser. I paid $650 for an exquisite piece of furniture. It arrived spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. The driver, Rod was very nice. I have 4 other pieces coming and I can hardly wait. I could never have found this without Chairish. I plan on selling some pieces, too. Chairish, you make furniture shopping amazing. While others are waiting 3 or months or more for pressed wood from inexpensive furniture stores, I am looking at my beautiful dresser that came in 2 weeks. I would love to keep you as my own secret furniture place, but that would be selfish. I hope everyone keeps up this kind of quality recycling.
Who charges their customers an additional service fee of $14.00 to purchase merchandise from their platform? WTH. A $14 service fee is added to each purchase to support their platform. How is that my responsibility? The fee should be absorbed by Chairish or seller. Such a rip off!
I have been selling here almost since the beginning in 2014. I have paid them THOUSANDS of dollars in sales commissions at their ridiculous 20% rate. Yet they still make me, and every other seller, wait to get paid until shipping is complete and 48 hour return window is over. With their utterly incompetent, dishonest, and snail-like shipping partner, Plycon, this usually means from a month to TWO months post sale until you are paid. Mind you, Chairish is of course paid at the time of sale. So they are at any point in time sitting on a pile of cash owed to their sellers. Very clever or their part, huh? We, the sellers, are extending credit terms to a multimillion dollar company. Its an incredibly rude disrespectful and slimy way to treat people who work hard to find the very valuable merchandise they rely on to be in business. Especially for sellers such as myself whove never had a return or the slightest complaint from buyers. Its truly unfortunate because so much about the site and their marketing, SEO etc is excellent. But Im pulling the plug and taking my business elsewhere. I cant work with a company thats so utterly exploitative of me, and every other seller on it. Its been real.
I had read a lot about Chairish, that it was one of three 'safe' sites to buy antiques. Well, they are not. I purchased a dinning room ensemble and its matching sideboard all from the same seller. The seller claimed the furniture was in a non smoking, pet free home, 'barley' used. Well, I found out later, from the shippers that the furniture was kept in a 'storage locker', that the most damaged parts had been wrapped in saran wrap to keep the shipper from seeing all the damage on the furniture. Apparently, the furniture had been through the sellers divorce, was badly scraped all the way down to the wood. When the sideboard came it was pockmarked and already refinished, badly! The colors don't even match! Then the unthinking woman that sent a reply email when I complained stated that my 'expectations' should have been lower because I was purchasing 'used' furniture. Anger inducing! I have many Bogart pieces that I purchased in exquisite, excellent condition, this stuff was 'abused' and I had to pay $1500 for shipping, if I want to return the items then I would have to pay for that again! There has been 'crickets', I have a bid to refinish all the broken (chair) refinished badly pieces of well over $2200... Seller is not offering anything. Chairish did nothing. I paid over $6,000. Don't buy from Chairish, they will tell you how stupid you are for buying used furniture. No guarantee, nothing. Ebay is better.
Tip for consumers:
Do not buy. Buy from a local consignment store, offer up, or even Ebay they will negotiate with the Seller for you. These people have just taken the seller side. And he purposefully wrapped the items in saran wrap so the damage would not be seen until it arrived at its location. He purposefully ripped the buyer off.

I must get every piece of furniture 'refinished', at my cost $2250, the furniture cannot be used in its current condition.
Once a piece has been refinished it has no value, and would be considered 'firewood'.
I tried to purchase a couch. They said that they were going to send it and they never did. Had to put a request in with my credit card company to get the money back.
I ordered a large, antique rolltop desk for my daughter. The Chairish site states that the furniture is delivered to your home and placed in whatever room you want. Our antique desk arrived in pieces, with one delivery driver to get it to an upstairs bedroom. I had to help carry the top, and later ended up in the ER with a possible blood clot from a leg injury. If that wasn't bad enough, the driver said that he was not allowed to reassemble the desk, and the rolltop was locked with no key to open it. Two weeks later, we have still been unable to get a key through Chairish's customer service. We believe the seller must have had a key because the rolltop was open in the pictures on the website and locked when it arrived. Not having a key would not be a big deal if the top wasn't locked with parts to the desk inside of it. We do not want to damage the desk trying to force the lock. Chairish is a terrible service that probably results in more damage to antiques than anything. If I could give them zero stars, I would.
Tip for consumers:
That the "white glove" delivery service is false advertising.

I had a terrible experience with their customer service. I had a much better experience with 1stdibs. My recent experiences will likely keep me from returning as a buyer or seller!
They charge the sellers 20% and then, what they dont tell you before you buy is they charge another 3% to the buyer! This fee is completely opaque, they allude to a small fee deep down in one of the faq sections but nowhere while you are shopping doesnt it say that THE PRICE IS NOT THE PRICE. Horrible.
We have had nothing but happy outcomes dealing with Chairish. Terrific staff. The idea of buying high quality furniture that other people don't need anymore appeals to me.
I have been selling on Chairish for a few months now and have experienced 3 instances of seller-unfriendly customer service, all of which could have been easily avoided. The first was that a few of my items were delisted without any notice to me for apparently no reason. After inquiring as to why this happened, Chairish responded that sellers are not allowed to edit titles of their items and that I had done this. It is very easy for sellers to edit descriptions and titles of their listings, so if they don't want you doing this, why even make it possible to do so on the site? And why not explicitly state that we are not allowed to do this? Or why not just email me and warn me instead of taking down my listings? Second experience was that they threatened to reverse a completed transaction because the wrong tracking number was provided. Shouldn't they have just requested an updated tracking number? Why the threat? Third experience was that they refused to change the price on two of my listings when I requested to do so. I emailed customer service twice about this and received two inconsistent responses. Get your customer service together, Chairish!
If you are not of the elite to sell and with a company that sells on 1stdibs, you will not be allowed to sell on this site. I have been selling since 2013 and all they EVER do is deny anything I list, even thought their are items just like what I am selling in style and name brand. I was told that even though they allow those items for other sellers, it's only those sellers who are well known. THIS IS YET ANOTHER 1STDIBS. Does not matter I have vintage Chanel, Vendome, Lanvin, Canovas, Armani jewelry and more, it doesn't matter that I have fine jewelry to sell vintage from the 60s/70s, they basically told me I was not good enough. I removed all my Paul Evans furniture and mid century items too. IF they don't need my business to sell then that is fine by me. I will go back to Etsy. What a racket. And nasty rude too. IF you have noticed they DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO LEAVE A REVIEW UNLESS YOU BUY SOMETHING ON THEIR WEBSITE. There is no where really for sellers to leave reviews.
The selection is excellent, the search functions are great, BUT... as a buyer, several things have happened with my purchases that are not good at all. First, I bought a small table for a particular purpose. After six weeks, I started asking where it was. "Not available." What? Got a $25 credit for their mistake - big deal. Need the table and decent customer service - not $25. Next: ordered another small table, same purpose. Four more weeks - again, "can't get seller to ship it." Seriously? So rebought a THIRD. In the meantime, they found the second, shipped it without telling me, so I have paid for and now have two. But not done with this saga yet. Then bought a collectible Kittinger table... arrived broken in several places. The shipper, Plycon, bless their hearts, told me to refuse delivery. AND... the paperwork showed me that the piece has been refused by someone else! So... now, I have placed FIVE calls and left five voice mails about my refund - no calls back. Just got one email - finally - telling me they would "investigate." DONT deal with this company - get the name of the seller, fond their website, and deal with them directly. Better yet, use reputable companies and deal with them directly: Stenella Antiques, Bucks County Estate Traders, and High End Used Furniture out of Missouri.
I've sold thru various sites like ebay, craiglist, consigment houses then I saw chairish n was willing to give them a go. But after trying to post some items for days n getting a rejection/correction message with no help. From cisomer care you are left trying to get the time uulou wasted back. I'll save you the time DON'T USE CHAIRISH EVER. THEY DON'T CARE.
I've been selling on Chairish for a few years now. As a dealer, you can never have too many baskets for sales channels. Unfortunately Chairish needs a lot more work before this chicken is laying any more eggs in it.
I've read their returns policies and it's actually abysmal, doesn't make any sense, and directly conflicts protections that buyers are afforded by credit card companies.
I haven't had any super negative experiences with selling, but I wish for a few things. That they would facilitate or allow communications between buyers and sellers in a few areas. Ie I occasionally sell expensive fabric. I would gladly send samples in advance of a sale, but they won't permit it. This doesn't instill confidence for either the buyer or the seller. They want to eliminate the possibility of selling outside of Chairish. Well guess what Chairish. The buyers have common sense and realize that Chairish isn't the only selling venue and can contact sellers via other channels. I've had this happen multiple times so I see it only taking away potential sales from Chairish. It's stupid. I also wish they would allow comments with the "make a offer" feature.
Other complaints are I wish their social media would feature a variety of sellers and items instead of trendy hotels or at least show a correlation between the decor and items that you can find on Chairish. And in the featured items, branch out. The same sellers, the same items are repeatedly featured and it's frustrating.
I opened my shop after working for a designer and seeing how vintage and antiques are pivotal to design and I was hoping more of my business would come from Chairish. However the sales I've gotten from celebrities and a list interior designers have come thru competitor sites.
A weird and rude company.
Don't bother.
They give you the run around and it's a big waste of time.
Nothing about it is user friendly.
Stay away.
Like the unique stuff. It does state 3 days to get refund. I think they made it longer now! Read first all discription
I bot a table but couldn't find a "complete offer" prompt. No telephone contact - mailbox was full. Annoyed and frustrated.
Tip for consumers:
I have no idea what happened to my offer for a table. My account says there are no purchases. Whaat Called, recording said to leave a message but, SURPRISE, the mailbox was full.
On 09/26/2020 I purchased a Mid 20th Century Oyster Shell Catchall for $125.00 with multiple photos on Chairish and complete description. I even e-mailed the store Scout Studios with questions. They respondid in regards to the item. About a week later UPS dropped it off after changing the delivery dates. I waited 2 days. When it did arrive in a large box but only 2 sheets of bubble wrap poorly taped so that the item bounced around inside the box. I opened and found a decrepit broken worn Abalone shell. Completely different specie and did in know way match the photos and description posted by Stout Studios on Chairish. I emailed Scout Studios immediately. Suddenly They where unresponsive. I contacted customer support and got the same old recording everyone with a problem gets " Wear experiencing a large number of support requests and I hate to say it but repeated attempts will only slow us down" from what I've read in other complaints this recording has been in there system forever! It's been a month with no resolution. Almost impossible to talk with someone. When you do it's a complete runaround. I think like others that they contract out to a company in India to handle complaints. I have purchased on Ebay and Etsy extensively and from all over the world. I have no negative feedback. This was my first time with Chairish and Scout Studios. Needless to say PayPal was not offered by Scout Studio's or I would have been refunded in a few days. Chairish is a scam but Scout Studios is even worse. Like SO MANY others that have been stolen from DO NOT BUY FROM CHAIRISH. DO NOT BUY FROM SCOUT STUDIOS!
Sellers-I'll save my time and yours. Don't. Just do yourself a favor... don't. If you're even thinking of it, I'll say again. Don't.
I was really excited about the rug I purchased on this site, as it was exactly what I had been looking for! The day that the item was slated to arrive, I woke up to a delivery confirmation email (sent at 5am). When I went downstairs, the item was not there. I checked the UPS tracking, and it stated that the item was delivered at 10:07pm the night before (a day early), which seems odd, as that is well outside of the usual residential delivery window. Further, it is irresponsible at best for a shipping company to leave an item unsecured at that time of night (I was fast asleep). I live in the city, so normally I'd assume the item had been stolen. However, there were torrential downpours overnight that night, so it seems unlikely. Before contacting Chairish, I checked with neighbors just in case, and also reached out directly to UPS, who only regurgitated their own tracking info, and noted that any insurance claims must be opened by the sender, not the recipient.
I contacted Chairish on a Friday asking for their assistance. By Tuesday, I had not heard back, so I wrote again, (after calling UPS one more time and being told the same thing) and confirmed the item had still not arrived (so it was not merely an error with the tracking). I got an extremely dismissive response with an attachment of "proof of delivery" (which was once again just the same tracking info from UPS) and saying they cannot open a claim for something that UPS shows as having been "successfully delivered." What constitutes a successful delivery? Instead of offering alternatives (or even a discount on a re-purchase), they suggested I "contact local authorities" and said if I required any further assistance, I could contact them.
So here I am as a consumer, with no item, no refund or replacement, no recourse to UPS as the recipient, and a customer service response that basically tells me to go pound sand. I was quite happy to support independent artists, but quite frankly, this is why people tend towards big box stores who have the ability to work with their customers in unfortunate situations, rather than basically saying "too bad". Avoid this company at all costs.
I sold an item 3 months ago. It's still not delivered. No customer service. 25 % commission. They are refusing to return it.
Tip for consumers:
Contact directly the dealer, you might avoid a lot of issue
I'm not sure why all the poor reviews from sellers but my experience in selling through Chairish has been nothing short of wonderful I have been listing items for over 2 years and I think the listing process is pretty intuitive, nothing more complicated than eBay. They do ask for a bit more information than some other sites but I think that benefits both sellers & buyers so that there are no misunderstandings post sale. There isn't anything that Chairish can do about fraudulent sellers (inaccurate descriptions/sizes/condition of icee) other than ban seller from future sales. If people are going to be dishonest, nothing can stop them.
Things to improve: decrease time from
Submission of item for review to actual "live for sale". I can't imagine what takes 7-10 business days to review a listing. Also, the commission is a bit high, maybe offer a sliding scale (10% for item<$250,20% for items $250-.$750,25% items above $750. Even the current 20% is not outrageous, and less than many high end consignment sites or brick and mortar auction houses (I'm leaving eBay out of the equation because that has become nothing but a garbage online garage sale where buyers want to purchase everything for nothing and make ridiculous offers like $20 with free shipping on an item listed at $150 - ridiculous. I just figure the commission amount it into my listing price as well as consideration of "verified offers".
I will continue to use Chairish and recommend it to my friends and fellow business sssociates as another avenue for sales.
I have even bought several pieces from Chairish, have never had an issue and find sellers to be helpful and responsive.
I can not believe all the negative reviews here. I've found Chairish a little over a year ago and have only great things to say about it. I sold many paintings through it and bought about 10 items. They take 20 % fee which is very reasonable and low compare to similar sites. Yes, they do review your items and don't let you change the title afterwords, but that's a good thing, cause It keeps the site organized and easier for people to find searched items. You receive your money only after 1 week after buyer get the item (it's very fast in comparison to other sites where i have to wait about a month). Some people complain about long shipping time, i don't know maybe i got lucky and all things I bought came within a week. Also, as a seller I always ship next day or in a day. But even if it happens that you have to wait longer, you have to understand, that's the Seller who is delaying the shipment not Chairish. Maybe it would be good idea if customers could rate the shops they buy from, this way site itself won't be blamed. Experience with customer service was also great. Quick responses, always helpful. I once noticed i put wrong tracking number, so my payment was not relisted. I contacted them with updated info and they sent me money same day.
What I would like to be done is the option that you can activate you item after it was delisted, not do all the posting over again. I'm an artist and often send paintings to the shows, so I have to delist them and I can not put them back, i always have to redo the whole process. This is my only suggestion. Other than that I'm a happy seller and buyer. And I was recommended this site to all my friends.
Tip for consumers:
If you have any questions about an item or not sure about smth, just white it in Q&A section.
I can not tell you about the seller I purchased from or the piece I bought for my client as we still haven't recieved it. Its been almost 7 week and the shipping company Chairish has decided to contract with for delivery Metropolitan Shipping has no information other that the piece is "in transit" that was 5 weeks ago. Since then nothing. No scans no information as to the truck or barge or however else this piece is supposed to get from Georgia to California they keep giving me the run around as to trying to find out information but ultimately nothing. I did get a form email from cherish a few weeks ago when I initially asked for an update as to what was going on with the shipping and in the email was told "there are many moving parts to delivering a piece of furniture etc, etc." I've been a designer for almost 30 years and believe me there aren't that many moving pieces you have got to go from point A to point B. This is leaving one state in the US and going to another state in the US. No bill of lading no customs no multiple modes of transport. I order two custom made chairs and a table from a company in Paris FRANCE the same day I purchased this vitage piece on chairish and the table andchairs were made shipped and installed. They arrived in the clients home almost 3 weeks ago. Chairish contracted to use this company and chairish is responsible. I will never use this company again. YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER.
Had a wonderful experience. Product what I expected and delivery in good condition and on time. Would use them again in a minute
Purchased a piece of furniture online through Chairish. Negotiation with the seller was easy and I got a good price, HOWEVER, on check out there was no option to select any kind of shipping priority (or any other options). After my purchase was completed and I was emailed a receipt, the receipt showed I had been charged nearly $500 for shipping and handling on my item, but no information about shipping/tracking. I emailed Chairish and after a couple of days I got a reply explaining they had assigned a shipper to my item and I should get information about when my item would be shipping in 3 to 5 weeks. (Yep 3 to 5 weeks just to know when it will ship). They also provided contact information for the shipper they assigned my item to. I called the phone number provided for the shipper and got a recording that the voicemail for the number I called had not been set up. I called about a dozen times over the next 3 weeks and nobody answered. I also emailed the shipper several times and got no answer. Finally 3 and 1/2 weeks later I got a text message from the shipper advising me that he would be in my area. Unfortunately I was out of town for business and could not return in time to take delivery... This back and forth went on for 6 weeks before I finally got the item I had ordered (total time from purchase of item until delivery was made was 7 weeks and 3 days). I don't think I'll buy from them again unless it's local pickup or a deal that makes financial sense and doesn't need to be delivered for a month or two. I give them two stars, one for economy (I got a good price) and one for responding to my inquiries. I'm docking stars for lack of options at check out, the flakey shipper they hired, and the ridiculous wait for domestic shipping.
Tip for consumers:
Shop items available for local pickup or be prepared to wait MONTHS to get your purchase.
Skip the site all together by contacting the seller directly and negotiating price/shipping terms to avoid long wait times.
