Just recently booked flights to China,
It was a bit worry-some given the bad reviews I've seen, but here's an account of my experience
Friday - 00:05 - booked flights via faregeek, received immediate email with status: Confirmed
Friday - 05:10 - received phone call from faregeek but missed it
Friday - 08:00 - called back via customer service line (waited 25mins) told me nothing required and e-tickets will be issued soon (1 to 2 business days)
Friday - 15:00 - checked credit card and it had been charged
Saturday - 08:00 - called back to put some pressure on the agent (3min wait). Told them nicely I was looking to get ticket confirmations, Agent looked at the file and sent me the e-ticket.
Overall experience, it was definitely worrisome, but I ended up saving $500 dollars because I booked the flights WAY too late.
Would I recommend it? Probably not, but I wouldn't condemn it either considering they really offered the lowest fare.
Good luck!
This is without doubt the worst customer service experience I have ever had. After having to change a flight booked with faregeek and paying a substantial fee, the receipt for my payment and charge to my credit card do not match. As this is a business expense I have been contacting them each day for the past two weeks to ask for a correct invoice. Sometimes I am on hold 10 minutes, sometimes for more than an hour. Each time I am told the invoice will be with me in 24 hours. Two weeks and counting. I could not be more disgusted with the service and would strongly advise anyone against using this company to book travel.
I just purchased ticket from fare geek on 02/01/2015 and had to cancel that ticket in less then 24 hours. I was charged $200 for that cancellation and on-line policy does't explain anything about that fee. When I spoke with manager and he stated that it is impossible to put all information about cancellation on line so I should call and ask before purchasing. So I lost $200 right on the spot. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THAT COMPANY.
Worst travel agency! Stay away!
Their faregeek app showed me the lowest fare for international flights, but I didn't realize that I have to change airports in Tokyo for connecting flight. I called them and Shane admitted that I will miss my flight. Then he gave me another routes but will cost me about $450 or cancel my tickets for $275. What a scumbag! You know it will cause me missing my connecting flight and yet wanted to charge me for your system reservation glitch? I called the airlines directly and they tried to help me to change my flights but at the end my ticket was locked by the scumbag agent. I have to go thru them for any changes. Don't fall into the trap! They pretty much has hijacked my reservation unless if I am paying more. I refuse to give them another penny of mine!
Don't book with fare geek.
They are a scam, they will steal your credit card info.
They say their names are Rick, Shane etc but they are a bunch of liars and cheats
Worst site ever!
They confirmed an airline ticket and then 3 days later said I really didn't have it and I owed them more money. Worst part about it - customer service yelled at us on the phone and the supervisor actually hung up on us.
Don't book with them - totally fraudulent company.
I had booked on Faregeek and then read the reviews, I was very nervous. But within a couple of hours I had received the confirmation email and was able to go on to Air Canadas website and confirm the reservation. I think more people are apt to complain then post if they've had a good experience.
BE PATIENT... and I know in this day and age we are used to instant tickets and instant fund withdrawal, well Fare Geek doesn't work that way, which for the majority of us can be horribly alarming.
Fare Geek must be a small company... it took 12 HOURS for my e-tickets to come in my email and much panic on my part. BUT... they are there in my e-mail (I just looked at them), the money was taken from my account in the amount as said, I now have boarding passes and all.
I did call customer service in a panic, about an hour after I bought them, he told me that the wait time was 4-6 hours... NOT TRUE, he was a bit brusk ( I'm sure inundated with these same queries) but as someone on this site mentioned, selecting option 2 will get you straight to an ACTUAL HUMAN instead of just listening to wait music for a half hour, the way I first did.
The reason I'm giving 4 stars- the astronomically and terrifying wait time for tickets, and the rude guy on the phone. Other then that I got a great deal on over seas tickets!
Horrible company! AKA BookAirfare.com - a void at all costs. I came across them as an option through skyscanner.com. I was looking for the best rates on fares to Ireland & they came up with the cheapest flights. They weren't ridiculously cheaper, but enough to take advantage of the offer. So, I booked the flights online & was given an onscreen confirmation with the flight details, along with a Trip ID & Reference # & was told I'd be receiving an e-mail with additional details 24-48 hours later. Two weeks later, that never came. Attempts to contact them went unanswered. I've since filed a dispute with my credit card vendor & a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (they already have a letter grade of F with that organization, if that's any indication as to their level of quality). Do not do business with this company. They did not respond to the BBB & I've been instructed to follow up with the State Attorney General.
I just got off the phone with someone in customer service and they handled thing so poorly I will never work with them again. Flat out took zero responsibility for the mismanagement of the booking, claiming they called and emailed me but I have zero record of such. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS AS THEY HAVE NO CLASS AND NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not impressed!
The WORST company ever. NEVER EVER book through them, they are fraudulent and full of crockery! The "customer service" representative are extremely rude and nasty. I was yelled at by 2 agents "Jason" and "Xavier" who both refused to let me speak to a manager. Xavier ended up hanging up on me! Be ready for very thick Indian accents and highly unprofessional behavior. Please don't make the mistake me (and apparently from all these negative reviews) and many others made, do not use their services for any reason! Trust me you are better off paying a little more!
Wish there was a rating less than one star. WORST COMPANY EVER. Anyone who rated this place higher than one star was probably either paid to do so or a family member. I've been traveling for years and have NEVER HAD A WORSE EXPERIENCE. My only regret is that I did not read these reviews before I used them. RUDE, ARROGANT, and NOT HELPFUL. Should have known - this company has 2 employees. 2. No where to go when you need help. DO. NOT. USE. THIS. COMPANY. FOR ANYTHING. My next call is to the Better Business Bureau.
FareGeek is a disaster! I booked a trip online and received an email that said CONFIRMED. Two days later, I had not received etickets do I contacted the airline. They had no record whatsoever of a reservation in my name. I called FareGeek, and got a man with an Indian accent who was abrupt and rude. So I said there was no reservation made, please cancel my attempt to get tickets. He said that the tickets (that did not exist) were not cancellable or refundable. And, I would have to pay him $250.00 per ticket to cancel (tickets that did not exist and were not cancellable). I called my credit card company and no charge had been made. Therefore, no reservations had been made, no tickets existed, and that Indian crook wanted me to pay him $250.00 per ticket to do nothing. I then cancelled the credit card, so those crooks could not sell the credit card information, called back FareGeek and told them to cancel whatever they claimed to be doing, and that they would never be paid anything by me. The Indian man who answered this time then wanted my credit card information again, and I declined. In sum, FareGeek seems to be a FRAUD, and is probably dishonest in a variety of ways. My advive - NEVER use FAREGEEK for anything
DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY! This company is also Bookairfare.com, so don't be fooled! They charged my mother and I more than we agreed to pay and never refunded the extra money. Then my husband's and my return flight from Paris to San Diego got cancelled and they never notified me. I happened to check online a few weeks ahead of time and called the company to fix the problem. (Thank goodness I did, otherwise my husband and I would have been stranded at the airport indefinitely!) At that point they said that there would no seats available and that they couldn't get us home until over 24 hours later. They would not pay for the extra expenses that we would incur as a result of the changes. I called over 20 times, always waiting on hold for at least 20 minutes before the phone even got picked up, only to have someone tell me that there was nothing the company could do and that I was just out of luck. The agents even had the nerve to get mad at me for calling! While the company says they are in Delaware it is very obvious that they are located overseas, if for no other reason than the fact that I was asked if there was a "local train from New York to San Diego" that I could take instead of flying. Seriously?! Bookairfare/Faregeek refused to take responsibility for anything and made it obnoxiously difficult to even get home after I had already paid for a return flight. I will only buy tickets directly through the airlines now as a result of this painstakingly frustrating experience!
This is a scam! Stay away from this company. They will book you on the wrong flight, never answer the phone
Absolutely abysmal!
Went to them via Momondo as they were offering the best price. When through what seemed to be a normal procedure and received the confirmatory email with flight details etc. Got slightly suspicious as they wanted a lot of information for the payment procedures.
There is no one to answer the calls (no matter what item of the day you call!) and stupidly, I checked the reviews AFTER handing my payment details.
My genuine advise - STAY AWAY FROM THIS USELESS & PATHETIC COMPANY, else be ready for a few days of heartache and pain until they dump you... which I expect :(
AVOID at all cost!
Worst service ever. Got a confirmation email when i made the reservation online, then 3 days before my flight got another email stating 'Please be advised that we are unable to issue your ticket as fare has been expired by the airline & your confirmed booking is on hold.' When i called they said the booking was cancelled because the fare had changed. WTF? I ended up paying a lot more to book another ticket directly with the airline, which would've been a lot cheaper if i had done that to begin with!
I'm writing this just to share my experience, based after reading all the negative experiences.
Shortly after purchasing, I realized I hadn't received the eticket, only the confirmation from the website. There was already a pending transaction on my credit card. I got on this site and others, read about faregeek, and obviously started getting nervous.
I decided to wait 24 hours before doing anything. 24 hours after buying the ticket, I still hadn't received my eticket. I called the service number, and selected 2 for a return, instead of 1 (when I had earlier tried 1, it kept me on hold but never got me to a person. 2 got me to someone immediately).
The dude on the phone was helpful. Less than 5 minutes after being on the phone, he understood my situation, and had my eticket emailed. He then took the time to explain their system, and why there are so many bad reviews.
He explained that many people do get nervous when they receive the confirmation email, but not the eticket (seems faregeek should better communicate when customers will receive the eticket). He also explained that the transaction might put two holds on the credit card, one from faregeek and one from the airline. I have no idea if this is legit, but I know that kind of thing makes me nervous when I see it on my account. He said this was normal, but that I was more than free to contact the bank if I had any problems with the double transaction.
I haven't flown yet, so I can't speak for sure how this will go. I did use the flight code to check in with the airline directly on their website, and my ticket was there, so that seems to count for something.
I was never asked my passport number anywhere, for an international flight, so thats a bit odd, but perhaps when I check in to the flight, I will give that info. And I will keep an eye on my bank account. If things change, I will update accordingly.
Not trying to contradict others' experiences or defend the company. Just sharing my experience. Good luck and safe travels!
Same as others, they cancelled my flight and a 500 dollar flight ended you at 1100, worst ever by a clear mile. Avoid like the plage! Customer service is terrible! Really angery, eventually the agreed to pay my 267 bacteria, week later no sighn of it! Must be another hour on the phone for me :(
I have had the same problem that most people here are complaining about. I booked a fare and then a few days later was told it was cancelled. Then was told I needed to pay an extra fee to book a new flight on the exact same day since the airline "cancelled the flight" They asked me to pay an extra 16$, which at the time didn't bother me since i was panicked about loosing my seat. They said they would send a new ticket within the hour, but it turns out there was no new ticket. It was the same one with the same confirmation number. When i checked my itinerary on icelandair, it said there was correspondence made due to "BOOKING ON LOSS DUE TO MERCHANT FEE".
So it appears as if this is a complete and total scam. Its a way of charging an extra fee AFTER you've paid. Their site says they will respond to emails within 10 minutes. This is false. They are also extremely difficult to reach by phone. Twice I was hung up on.
This is definitely shady business. This is absolutely a scam. I should have just checked my flight with icelandair and confirmed it before spending the extra 16 dollars in order to "hold my seat on a cancelled flight". Why did that even make sense? They are preying on your vulnerabilities. There was no reason to charge me more other than for them to claim a merchant fee. NO TRANSPARENCY. Complete scam.
Answer: Stay away, look at my review. These guys are crooks
Answer: Sorry to hear about your mother Laura. We should all report them!
Answer: It depends on the airline not on fare geek, but don't book with this company if you can manage not to. They are literally liars, and I hope I don't run into Yu's problem because I just cancelled my flight with them.
