Never able to verify military experience. There is no option to upload supporting documents. You simply fill out some information to verify. Then, you're told it was unable to verify. Since when did ID.me become the determining factor in whether 25 yrs in the military counts as service. It was easier & less frustrating to get my VA disability approved.
At first it was difficult because after living in Japan for over 20 years my Driver's license and phone numbers and utility bills are all in Japanese and not accepted on the form. Luckily I still had a bank account in the USA and could get a statement online.
The procedure was extremely and unnecessarily invasive of privacy. The government does not need to coillect pictures of ID information and videos of users of their WWW sites, and neither does any other organization. I am very suspicious of how this information will be used.
For some reason, I was unable to use ID.me with the IRS website to pay my quarterly estimated income tax that is due on January 15. I've paid without using ID.me for the other three quarters without a problem so obviously I'm very frustrated with the whole set up requiring me to use it.
First determine if you need to use ID.me at all. You can do a lot on the IRS website without using this system. I went through the tedious process of uploading photos of my drivers license and so forth, with several failed attempts before getting things just right for their picky app, and then could not find the Free Fillable Forms thing at all. I later learned I didn't need to go through ID.me to access FFF directly at irs.gov. Also, FFF has its own security steps, which are easier to comply with. So I probably will never use ID.me!

I was ready to e-file my income taxes but I could not find my last years income tax return. After frantically searching, I tried online. ID. Me was very easy to use! I got the info. So easy; I was shocked! Takes only minutes to upload drivers license and then Upload a selfie. Thank you for making this an easy process.
Without the help of a VA staffer would not have been able to get through the sign-up. Very intrusive. Forced to use the service as current sign-up is being discontinued after many years of no problems

Sometimes satisfying and sometimes very stressful. It's very convenient to file online for monthly and year end information to the Federal Gov't. It can be stressful to correct a mistake. Also it would of been nice to know that the 1096 was included in the 1099 transmission. I spent a lot of time trying to find out how to file my 1096 and did not find out until I printed out the page my verification page..

It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
Today, we’re building a digital identity network where users verify their identity once, and never have to re-verify their identity again across any organization where ID.me is accepted.
