I needed to get simple IP PIN from IRS. I try to go to IRS (unfortunately they don't provide parking space). So I sent request by mail. Waited two months-still waiting. Left with only one option-I try to apply for IP PIN online. BUT I didn't know, that before I will be honor to enter IRS-I have to be verify. And then my journey to the promise land started for many, many weeks of sorrow and trying to open closed gates of paradise.
I am an expat living in Canada. Now retired, I wanted to access on-line my social security account--instead of driving from Canada to Washington state (and back) to the Social Security Adminstration office. I needed ID.me to verify my identity.
Using ID.me I now have access to my my.Social.Security and my IRS accounts.

A family member has used my social security number, DOB to open a ID.me account in their name. As a result I am unable to sign into ID.me to apply for unemployment benefits. I want to report that this account is fraudulent but I don't know who to contact in your company to report this.
It's a wonderful platform very safe for information, helped me out a lot. The platform is well deserving five stars as well very fast learning for me to also. The experience was wonderful to I like that it helped me learn about the college at a fast rate. You can do a lot with the website as well like documentation didn't take along time at all my phone had all the tools the website wanted like typing not having to download other apps that wasn't for iPhone. I think the website is for everybody that wants to learn about college I would let them know about this platform, I liked the website a lot gave me time to think and write don't have nothing to say bad about the platform because it let me finish what I wanted to be completed. I learned a lot from the website and platform it simplified everything I wanted to know like as far as about the college.
ID.me failed to deliver verification email and failed to respond to multiple requests for assistance. It took 5 months of periodically retrying and sending new requests to finally get help. Eventually resolution was deletion of the account by ID.me and starting over. Second time worked to create account. But lack of any help for months was ridiculous. And failure to deliver simple verification email is disturbing.
I tried for two days to verify my identity just to submit my Pennsylvania state income tax form. I uploaded my driver license AND passport and they still required a video chat. The idiot said he couldn't see me and kept telling me to allow access to my camera. It was ON!
Having to verify an account with ID Me just to log in to an already verified government account is just redundant by adding extra steps to verify your identity. Am sure they are getting paid for the ID Me but is it really worth it? If you log in to your account and something is wrong, then report it otherwise go on about your day with less interference from a 2nd or 3rd party
I'm an older adult who doesn't feel proficient in the use of technology and smartphone. But after a sputtering start, I decided to give it a go and was finally successful in taking necessary photos and uploading documents. So best to be bold and give it a try and persevere.
I had trouble with getting verified though the self service and had to go to the video call option. I did not have to wait long for the video call and it was easy and quicker then i thought. After that i was good to go.
I haven't use id me for so time ago and I figured I'd be going to be like everything else and redirect me 50 other ways and to take forever to get in but hey there it was everything was easy fast uploaded everything perfectly for me and it was just an overall amazing experience thank you

It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
