“Do not send clothes”

Deb S.

I will no longer be sending any clothes to Threadup. My last 2 bundles have not earned me anything although they have sold. I would rather donate locally and support a small, local business.

So back in the day when thread up was new they were really good at processing and letting you know why your clothes weren't accepted.back in May I sent them a box with 80-90 items about 10 of them were posted. Mind you I followed the policy and made sure everything I sent was either new with tags or barely used. As well as in trend. They took until now June 17 to process the boxes sent. When I saw the didn't add any items I contracted them and asked as to why. They couldn't tell me a reason as to why also the person on the chat only has its initials not full name. They says no reason needs to be given they just didn't accept them. Told them I want them back mind you this conversation happened one hour after processing he said all of them were recycle. What I think is happening lately is that if you send them nice and cute stuff they will steal it and say it was recycle which in truth I doubt. Don't send them any more clothes I promise they are not honest on how they process.

Tip for consumers:
I hope that they close down

If I had known the pennies this company is going to pay me for new, beautiful suits, dresses, skirts, I would have added them to my donations instead. Very upset.

After placing my order on June 5,2024 the order shipped on June 9,2024. The tracking hasn't updated since June 14,2024 and today is June 22,2024. I reached out to customer service via chat on June 20 and after waiting over 45 minutes to get to talk with someone, was told she would email FedEx and email me when there was an update. She emailed me today and said she was still working on it and to please let her know if it was received. I told her that FedEx has given me four different scheduled delivery dates at this point and the tracking status still hasn't updated and asked if I could please be refunded. I was told it has to be seven BUSINESS days without tracking updating before they will help in that regard. So to ThredUp it's okay to spend hundreds of dollars, their chosen shipping company to not come close to delivering by ThredUp's estimated delivery date, the delivery company to then not update tracking for at least six business days, and THEN you can reach out and expect a refund. All other companies I have dealt with that had tracking not update for over a week, which hasn't happened often, were willing to help and refund the money so I could place another order or not risk being out that much money. After this I will never order from ThredUp again. I know some people think they treat buyers better than sellers, but that's not true in my experience. I would not recommend anyone do business with them.

I sent high quality items, I work and own a consignmet store for over 25yrs. I know labels, I sent only the cream of the crop, Burberry coat, Chico's blazers High end leather purses brand names and in perfect condition. None of them sold except one purse and it's been 2 weeks and still no payout and it's only for 7.00. I thought I'd try it out but never again. It's a total scam, sell quality items on ebay or on your own! This is a very shady business covered by flowery words and false promises.

I sent designer apparel to this company, they kill you with fees. If you want to reclaim items, the processing fee alone, will make you feel as if it were not worth it. Save your breath, donate to Good Will, Salvation Army, Church or shelter, and write it off. This place should be investigated by the Attorney General of their State, which I may do, as they are operating loan sharking ring, but with clothing

This company is a totally fraudulent SCAM. The clean out program? It's shady, it's unethical, it's downright STEALING.

I sent in a few items with their free kit. A BRAND new with tags dress from Coach (listed or like $10?) and a few other items I felt should have been listed for more...

I also sent in a shirt I had bought from Marshalls (I googled it after this whole situation) and they listed the shirt for $300 but were "discounting" it for $50 (it hasn't sold yet but now it's down to $38...)

The whole situation is sketchy. Don't trust them. And save your time. Just donate the clothes or sell on Ebay...

Tip for consumers:
SCAM! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHOP!

They used to be an easy way to sell clothes, and I actually got a nominal but good enough payout back in the day. A couple months ago I sent them three cleanout kits full of NWTs popular clothes from Banana Republic and ElleandEmm, etc. I saw some pieces had sold. When I looked at my account, I saw several of my items sold but that they took a $14.99 processing fee for each of them. I'm surprised I didn't receive a bill! That's ludicrous! Will NEVER send clothes to them again. I hope someone sues them. I could've/should've gone to a local consignment shop or listed my items on Poshmark. Seller beware!

Sent in about 50 items and only 10 were taken. Pay out is only about $0.50-$3 for barely worn and higher end pieces. Realllyyyy not worth it. So much better to sell on Poshmark or depop for 10x the payout. Very disappointed.

I had a credit in my account because I had been waiting over a year for another clean out bag to be posted. I just went to check and all of my money (credit) was gone. They said in chat that it rolls into a gift card. Complete fraud. I was never contacted that this was even a possibility. They still have not posted had my last clean out bag that I paid to receive from well over a year ago. Do not trust them.

Over the last few years I have sent in a number of bags of clothes and you can track the bags on the app. In the past it has been easy and worked well. But recently all seems to be falling apart. I have sent in bags and I can see they are received in the app and they move to 'processing' but then they just disappear after about 6 months without ever posting for sale. I have emailed so many times inquiring about my missing bags and I can't get a response. I would not send any designer pieces or things you are not willing to lose. They are not responsive and impossible to reach. So it's just a coin toss if you actually get money for your items.

My ThredUp payout after selling 20+ items -- including quality brands like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, White Houes Black Market, and J. Crew -- was a whopping $1.56, and it took nearly half a YEAR for them to process these donations. (I won't call them sales, because it's essentially a donation.) You can see in the photos how much money these items were sold for versus how much I received in payout too. What a silly waste of my time and effort. I would have been better off just donating them to a women's shelter or taking them to a local Goodwill so that my donations could have at least helped someone in need rather than someone in greed. How is this business still a business?

ThredUP is a great way to recycle your clothing but this is NOT a way to make any money! I've sent in four 30lbs boxes of quality clothing that all got listed and sold. After paying the $14.99/box shipping cost I've made a total profit of $60 for all of it. I kept two additional boxes of clothing and decided to post them on Facebook marketplace to see what happened. I've already made $250 and only sold half the clothing so far. Where does all the money go with ThredUP? Definitely not to the person providing the clothing! Font's waste your time, sell it yourself!

Absolutely horrific business practices now. Previously consigned with them years ago and had problems but nothing like this, you'd be lucky to make 5%-10% of your items worth. Please just go to your local consignment shop. It takes over a month for them to even look at your items and they no longer offer a way of reclaiming them if you've changed your mind. There are so many better options than them.

My mother died and she had three closets full of clothes. Many still had the tags on them. Never worn. I cleaned out her house and sent many to thread up. Many with tags on them from macys and jcpenney. They accepted 3 items, none with the tags still on them. I thought to myself, someone must have stolen them at threadup. I still have a lot more of her clothes but I will just have to have a rummage sale. This company is an absolute joke in my opinion.

I have used thredUP in the past and had good results. This last clean out bag I had several items that sold, some brand new with tags. I got several emails from thredUP telling me my payout amount, but my account balance never changed. When I asked about it, I was told that there was a " clean out fee ". That clean out fee was conveniently slightly more than my payout fee. There's another review on here stating " they steal clothes" and I completely agree. Thredup has lost my business. I will no longer sell, buy, or refer anyone to Thredup.

Tip for consumers:
Absolutely awful if you're trying to make money on your clothes that you no longer wear.

After hearing wonderful things about thredUP, I decided to give it a shot with a closet cleanup kit. Sent in over $1,000 worth of designer label items in VERY Good condition and received an email back they accepted only one item. Worst part is my other items were sold to a consolidator or some other third party even after I registered to have them returned. SCAM... you bet. No wonder they are claiming to be successful. Don't waste your time.

They have no qualms sending you items with holes, stains, wrong labels, outrageous pricing compared to retail value - and then you'll only get store credit in return so you can order more junk. Customer service is a joke. This used to be a great shopping experience but after spending thousands over the years, I'm done.

Thredup will claim a perfect condition high value item doesn't meet their standards so they won't list it under your account and you won't get a payout. I've been reselling for over a decade across many platforms and know how to evaluate an item. I have 5 star reviews and no returns. Yet thredup will claim they probably found a flaw in the item to justify not listing it (because they're stealing it to resell out from under you) as if they have superior inspection skills (they don't).

Their customer service then goes on to belittle you and offer no solution, arrogantly doubling down while being vague about what happened to your flawless item. They never directly say why they rejected a certain item despite claiming to document flaws. It's because they didn't reject it - they stole it. It will end up being listed under another account so they take full profit. They're unethical scammers and liars.

Tip for consumers:
Don’t use them. They scam sellers.

They are an online consignment shop. Every previous consignment place I've done business with the proceeds were split 40/60 or maybe 30/70 but thredup most items it's 4% that means for every dollar the individual gets 4¢ and thredup keeps 96¢. Also if you read the fine print (see picture) they have literally thousands of brands that are too inexpensive for them to bother with paying the owner anything but not too inexpensive for them to sell and keep the money. Don't believe me? Check out consignment 101 for brands that they basically steal from ppl. Don't send anything to them, just post your clothes as a lot. You'll make much more money. Including a pic of my recent clean outs. These were 30 pound ones too and I only made 38¢ this is without return assurance, that's ridiculous thredup is getting greedy..

Tip for consumers:
Read the fine print first!!

Do not use this online clothing store if you want anything delivered less then 4 weeks. Poor customer service where they completely lie to your face that their behind and lie about the process should take 3 to 5 business days even though your package has been in transit for 3 weeks already!

Tip for consumers:
Customer service reps are lieing about how long it takes to process sales orders and returns. They shipped a blouse with a stain on the center front. Their shipping tracking system changes eta daily. One minute it's arriving tomorrow then 3 days later the eta is pending for 5 days in a row. Customer service say "sorry" for delay.

Every time I've purchased something from ThredUP the item description has been miles apart from what I received. They'll say something is in like new condition and it will arrive with holes and severe pilling. AND when they are wrong, they don't refund you. They create a credit on their site so you have to shop again. Absolute horrid service. And feels very dishonest.

With $11 shipping fees with each order the costs add up quickly. Return shipping is $11 if you want a refund to paypal plus $4 restocking fees for each returned item. I made 11 separate purchases and lost $121 in shipping fees alone plus $32 restocking fees for returning 8 items. Thredup is a rip off!

I've sent in 120lbs. Of NWT and/or excellent condition items (Lilly Pulitzer, Michael Kors, etc.) and only made $350 of that thousands and thousands worth of clothes. Some of the NWT items were not listed as such (affecting the price/value). SO many items that they clearly sold (some of which were sold for over $20/each) were not eligible for payment.
