Booked a truck 3 weeks prior to moving our son home across 4 provinces, was confirmed the size 4 days before even though they changed our pick up location. 22 hours before pick up told no 10ft trucks but could give a 26ft truck with 200 off for the trouble. I explained i had no where to park a 26ft truck nor was i comfortable driving a truck of that size 2000 km, and that it had been confirmed by their agent that a 10 ft was available, then they try and get me to pick up over an hour away, promised phone calls back, didnt happen, cancelled the second pick up location though i told her not to cancel till i could confirm i could get a ride to the other location, told something different from anyone i spoke to, tranfered from department to department, told they could change a local to a one way, then told no it doesnt work that way, just a nightmare making me loose my last night with family as i was on the phone with this completely unorganized company.,get to the dealership and see over 20 10 foot trucks in their lot, but still being told they only had a 26ft truck available, somehow miraculously they found a 10ft truck afterall, wow like they didnt know it was there and available when they called the day before, will never use this company again.
We all have seen or heard about the movie "JAWS." The one line everyone remembers about the movie is "JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK INTO THE WATER." Just when I thought the three UHaul containers was going to be moved to my residents they became hostages instead. Yep, hostage since May 2023 when I signed a contact with them to be transported to the coliseum location. Due to miscommunication about shipment I had a brief conversation with the traffic coordinator prior in Colorado. In addition I was provided an email to contact the individual for transporting the containers upon my arrival to NC. This is what I was told "since I am up the road from the coliseum I can have your boxes dropped when you arrive. You are only about twenty minutes away. So that would not be a problem." Well, it has now become a hostage for additional money to be paid for transporting the containers. I had scheduled the movement and notice UHaul wanted to charge additional fees after stating there would be NO CHARGE.
I have my own business. Have running many U-Hauls over the years when my truck's been broken down. I tried to rent one recently. Me and the U-Haul dealer go to the whole process of reading it. At the very end it shows a red flag that need to call this number. Place as it doesn't say why or anything. Just give me a call. Try some simple. I call the number I'm on hold. I look at all my U-Haul rentals and the receipts. I know it's last rental I had in May. The receipt said 100 miles this much for the truck. This much for the insurance total was $175 or so, but looks like I was only charged like $154. Sound thinking okay. The undercharged me for some reason no big deal. After waiting on the phone for 40 minutes this lady gets in the line that tell her what's going on. She goes well. You have a out standing balance from back in May. I said okay. That's what I thought was. Cheers. You won't pay that now I said sure. That's going to be $230. I said for what?
Cheers for your outstanding balance. That's what you owe is. I said that's not what my records say. Did she get real rude with me?
So I can send you a copy of the records as I can send you a cup of my records. So she gets rude. I said fine email it to me. I said that's completely different than the receipt I have on your website. Has extra 100 miles on there. Yeah well that's what you owe. I said I don't believe that's correct. Yes, that's what you owe. That was always back in May. I said if I owed you money late that you should of called me or something. You all never call me. Email me anything. That far back I don't recall but I have receipt here on y'all's website. I says this mean miles two days blah blah blah. So the other receipt you have is 200 miles. I don't understand that. Well that's why you need to pay us she said. I am not going to pay it when I have receipt that says something different and it's been over 6 months and y'all didn't just try to call me nothing. This makes no sense to me. I'm not going to pay it. Then she said so you want dispute this? Yes I'm glad dispute it because I have a receipt saying how many miles it was. How many days it was everything that was paid. It looks like to me owe you $27 or something. Then she hung up on me.
This is the worst moving service ever in my life that I have experienced. DO NOT USE U-HAUL and horrible customer service and when there is a problem with their trucks and calling for roadside assistance for your relatives that are stuck on the road in a small town. They will put you on hold on for like 40 minutes and transfer you to another agent that does not want to deal with your problem at all. And when they seem like they will help you, they will suddenly say I will call you back and ask for your number and another agent will take over the case and some were rude to speak to because they said I had an accent with attitude with it. It is literally a cycle and I went through 6 agents to help one of my relatives being stuck at the U-Haul place where they were stuck since 7 in the morning to 6 pm finally a tow truck of U-Haul came to pick up my relatives pass on to the other employees and until the manager speaks to me and there is some clarity with my problem but still I will never use this moving service again. All this chaos started with the transmission breaking down midway for my relative and calling for help and turned out there was no oil in the transmission and started to smoke underneath the hood or their truck. This moving service needs to check and update all maintenance on their trucks because I do not think they do that at all for their trucks and if other future customers using this moving service will ever have this nightmare of a problem for them. (p.s. The second agent that was taking care of the case said they would send a link to send the pictures of the truck and the problem to them, but they never did send that link ever. So, there is no picture on my file to send because my relative has it on his phone of the truck he was driving halfway through and suddenly it broke down. And was absolutely a nightmare going through their customer service. Never again U-Haul. I will go to Penske from here on out. They know what they did wrong so they try to accommodate an uber and hotel for my relatives to stay because they both do have health issues so that is the only kind service they did for them but everything else, I do not agree with nor like their moving company.
This company looks to be a little shabby to me they seem dishonest can't get a straight answer bringing my business elsewhere
I lived in Huntsville AL. I rented Ubox (POD) on Jul 26 2023 from Uhaul and hired Southern City Movers thru MovingHelp associated with Uhaul. The Ubox was delivered to Uhaul POD warehouse location in Huntsville AL 3713 Governors Dr SW, Huntsville, AL *******. A POD agent locked the Ubox and gave to key to a mover. The Ubox was moved to Uhaul in Reno NV located in ******* S Virginia St, Reno, NV *******. I never heard from a mover or from Uhaul about the key. Now I cannot access my Ubox without a key. I left messages so many time to a mover and call Uhaul support to resolve this issue. No return call from a mover or Uhaul support team will not try to help. The general manager at Uhaul Reno cannot cut the lock unless I am physically present at that location for a security issue. I have lived in Clinton IA since Sep 01. Uhaul POD agent gave a key to a mover without my authorization or gave me any notification about a key. It is the same as gave my house key to a stranger. I have to cancel the contract with moving company named 'Move Safe Relocation' that I hired and have to give up my deposit $708 and rehire Uhaul to deliver Ubox to Clinton. I have to clean up messes that Uhaul serious mistake. I am even not sure that my stuffs are still in Ubox. They don't allow to cut the lock because of security reason. Is it secure to give a house key to a stranger?
I waited for 3, hours to be called when my hitch was installed. Tried calling. No luck. Treated rudely
Why call weeks in advance and book a reservation when UHaul can call you just beforr your move to tell you that you have a truck but in a different city, different pick up time. After five phone calls no compensation, (or only what benefits them) and even told at one point sorry i cannot gove you details as our location isnt linked to other uhaul outlets? Save yourself the stress and hastle, extra expense and head ache and go to another agency with better reviews and a concreye service agreement and plan. Moving is stressful enough why deal with an agency that has not improved their service in decades. The same old disorganization and humiliation of having movers and building or rental managers mad at you for uhaul rearranging your pre planned and organized moving goals. Their compensation is laughable and honestly if my honest review gives one other person or family pause to contemplate working with uhaul then at least I can say something -anything good has come out of this awful headache. The staff knowing how u-haul operates should be embarrassed for being associated with and being complicit with an agency that hasn't done a course correct in decades of bad service. Go with all these bad reviews, take it to heart and make your moving experience much more stress free and better organized and probably cheaper. Do not be fooled into thinking a booking or reservation or all your planning will be honored with uhaul
This review is regarding to employment at the coram ny location where i felt i was discriminated against. After completing the application on line few weeks later i was sent all forms of paper to fill out for acceptance of the job, i was given a uhaul employee id, access to the employee site and everything the next step was to be contacted by the manager for that location Lauren who did call like a few weeks later. After speaking on tbe phone i was told to come in for an interview so i did once i got there i could tell because I'm black just moved to a community that is mostly white anyways upon entering she and two of her colleagues started whispering to each other where she then took me to a back room which was more like a closet to so call conduct the interview she asked me 3 question and then told me she will contact me and let me know what is going on. Two weeks passed nothing from her so i called the Hr office to find out what's going on they told me to wait a little longer, so i did. Here goes another two weeks still nothing so i called again and spoke with someone who told me that i am in the system as a new hired and they will call her to call me to tell me what's going on i said ok. Still nothing from her till like another 2 weeks later i got an email saying im terminated now tell me if thats not discrimination because speaking on the phone with lauren before she knew i was black she told me that i was coming in for training and i guess when i got there and she realized i was black she changed her mind but i am in the process of finding a lawyer to start a law suit against her and the company!
I had reserved both a large truck and a large trailer over two weeks ago. At the last minute, I received an email from U-Haul telling me that I needed to go pick my equipment up 30 minutes away in the next town, (even though there are a number of U-Haul locations in the town which I requested). When I called back, U-Haul told me i could pick up the truck at one place in town and then I would have to pick up the trailer in another.
I got the truck and completely loaded it. I then took the loaded truck to the second U-Haul location to pick up the trailer.
They hooked up several trailers, discovering that the wires to the trailer faulty, not allowing the trailer's left turn signal to work. Consequently, they would not allow me to take the trailer.
The solution that U-Haul gave me was that I could go and unload the entire 26 foot truck and put it into another truck or that I could wait for roadside assistance to come to the U-Haul location and attempt to fix the truck. I literally waited on hold for an hour and never connected to a human being to even tell me weather they could get me roadside assistance or a time when they might be able to come out.
The day was getting later. Loading the truck took nearly half the day and I had hired extra workers who were waiting for me to simply "run over to pick up the trailer" so we could finish loading, I had to give up. I could not wait any longer to begin my eight hour drive back to Kentucky.
I ended up spending two nights in a hotel room, extra hired help, over $500 in gas to go to Georgia and return to Kentucky with only part of my belongings. This trip cost me over $1000, which I had expected. Now I have another cost of driving all the way back to Georgia, renting another trailer, getting more help and driving back to Kentucky… costs which I had not budgeted!
Not only that, after several calls to U-Haul and promises that a general manager will be "right back to me to resolve the problem"… NO RESPONSE!
I called a local Uhaul gas station to see if they had a car dolly available. They said yes, but that I would have to call the reservation number. I did and they said that location did not have a car dolly. I gave them another location to check which I was familiar with. They had one and made the reservation. I drove down there, filled out the paperwork and gave them a credit card. When they went to attach it to my truck, the unit was dagaged and couldn't be used. They sent me back up to Langhorne. They only had a car carrier, but would charge me what I would have paid for the car dolly. Somehow the price went from $47.65 up to $170. After arguing for 30 minutes, I finally got them down to $70.14. I was still overcharge. The female employee was very nice and tried as best she could with the reservation person on the phone, but couldn't get it any lower. I'd give you the contract number, but I can't read the paperwork since the ink probably ran out a month ago. When I came back two hours later to return the car carrier, she waqs the only employee there. My son and I helped her push the car caqrrier into a space to get it out of the way. My son worked for Uhaul over 20 years ago. Nothing has improved since then. My reservation number was *******.
I wanted to rent a 6'x12' Utility trailer to pick up an UTV from a different state - Point B. So instead of doing a round trip and renting for 5 days, I wanted to rent at Point B and drive one way and renting it for 2 or 3 days back home to Point A. I called and spoke to a dealer and they couldn't guarantee me that trailer. I told him I had a 7 hour drive and would not take the chance of driving and showing up to Point B and not having a trailer. My next step was to look at a round trip and called my closest UHaul, and Unbelievably they wouldn't let me rent for more than one day due to students returning back to school! My money isn't as worthy as students? My next step was to call the National UHaul and attempt to rent a trailer anywhere between Point A and B and the answer I got was to rent one and we then could try to guarantee me what I needed. They guaranteed me a trailer of 6 hours... I needed one for 4-5 days! She wanted me to reserve one before she would ensure my duration but wouldn't do it until I reserved. I got so frustrated that I told them to forget the whole thing and ended up borrowing one from a friend. I will NEVER try and rent from UHaul again. I will use other rental services before them ever again...
I picked up uhaul after making reservation online.
Person working basically threw me the keys, 2 other customers behind me in line.
Employee was giving me instructions from behind the counter in mumbled voice, did not go Thur truck ECT for 1 second, if he had I would have showed him how dirty it was under truck seats and behind seats.
I dropped keys on floor of truck and was kind of taken back how dirty it was, did not look like it had been cleaned for some time.
I rented truck for one day, 2 helpers got covid and could not find any moving company or ready laborers to assist.
Uhaul employee called at return time, I just finished loading truck.
Employee asked where truck was several times in panicked voice, told him I just got truck loaded.
He stated He had 2 families in store waiting on truck.
So much for truck getting serviced, cleaned and sounded like exhaust manifold vibrating.
Uhaul is trying to charge me $75 for a truck that was dirty to begin with.
I called uhaul corp, after spending 30 minutes with self automated phone system. I finally got a human who stated (ok) when I said I was still using and needed more time.
I was in another uhaul location a few days later and overheard employee tell customer all trucks were taken and he could not give waiting customer set time for pick up in case existing customer ran over time and WOW. HE STATED TRUCK NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND SERVICED.
STAY AWAY FROM INTERSTATE UHAUL IN BISMARCK, ND. STORE HAS Employees who seem to not care about much at all.
In Oct, I rented a tow dolly in Claremore, OK, to tow my vehicle 1,400 miles. Turns out that the lights weren't working on the dolly (they were never chk'd at Claremore) and a tech came to fix them two hours into my trip. He cut my light plug off my tow vehicle and haphazardly crimped another one on, but the lights failed again. So, I couldn't drive at night on my whole trip. On the last day of my 4-day trip, I discovered one of the dolly's tires was practically bald! (pic included) Also, the dolly itself was faulty and kept throwing my vehicle slightly sideways on it. The "swiveling" portion of the dolly was not working properly. At the drop location, the owner saw all of these faulty specifics and apologized profusely. I contacted the regional UHaul supervisor for NE Oklahoma (Chris) to explain the disaster and sent him pictures. He put my cellphone number into his phone and told me to contact him the next time I needed a UHaul, because he planned to give me a big discount on my next reservation, plus refund this disastrous rental. Well folks, apparently Chris didn't mean what he promised. I completed another tow dolly rental in January and notified him, so he could refund a discount to me. Nothing but crickets! It's been weeks now, and I've sent additional text messages, but ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. (P.S. - when I rented this return tow dolly in January, a UHaul employee there noticed that the plug on my RV - that the tech in Oct had replaced and "crimped" on - pulled completely off into his hands! This UHaul employee had to correctly attach the plug to my RV!)
I really try to avoid giving negative reviews, AND I try not to let one experience ruin something, but this was really bad! We rented a U-Haul truck to move things out of a storage locker because we no longer wanted the locker. We were driving to return the truck and someone from the company had reported the truck as stolen (when it was a different truck that was stolen) and my dad was followed by at least five police cars and they pulled him over and pulled their guns on him because they thought he was driving a stolen truck! We were driving it back shortly before the place even opened for the day so we couldn't return it yet! Thankfully we explained the situation and they let us go (and updated the system so we wouldn't get pulled over again) but when we told the people at U-Hall what happened, all they offered was $15 off the bill! I get that mistakes happen, but a good company would give a formal apology and offer a long more compensation than that, especially when their mistake could have gotten my dad arrested or even killed! DO NOT USE U-HAUL! THINGS COULD GO SERIOUSLY WRONG!
Poor customer service and love the rip you off and take your money. If they fix the communication and lower rates just slightly they would be OK!
Uhaul is a lie. 20$ is a lie. They charged me $100 for an hour and I only drove to the next town. Never use this company
My experience was a great one. Thanks Jay and Shannon. Great customer service and very informative.

They forged my signature for extra charges on fuel even though I returned the gas on the fuel gauge how I received it.
35 years ago, I remember moving from California to Ohio with a huge U-Haul truck. It was highly featured with broken radio, no AC, broken gas gauge, and faulty brakes. There is no feeling quite like losing brakes while descending a Utah mountain, and plowing through a construction site full of workers at 68 miles per hour (while still in first gear). Thankfully, there were no injuries.
Today, U-Haul trucks are in much better condition with cool pictures on both sides. However, the phone scheduling, internet service, and lowbrow franchise system is hopelessly broken.
This morning (Thursday) at 9am- the time indicated online, we arrived at the website specified location and found it shuttered. A call to U-Haul dispatching revealed that this location has been abandoned for some time. I drove to the revised Anderson, SC franchisee for truck pickup and found it too was closed. I waited until 10am for the posted opening, but the business was still dark. By this time there were seven customers waiting outside with me. Oddly, I formed warm friendships with these people during the wait, much like innocent inmates do while incarcerated. More calls to U-Haul dispatch- after waiting, being transferred, and the call being disconnected six times, (Dispatch- very nice and friendly-happily) worked through the issues. When starting the truck, I noticed that the gas tank was empty (see image). After fueling, I was ready to start packing… around lunch time. When I initially scheduled the truck, I was asked to assist U-Haul by towing a trailer behind the vehicle on the trip to Birmingham, AL- to which I agreed. Now I can't imagine what complications that will add- will the franchise be open? Will the trailer have air in the tires? Will God continue to be merciful?
So- now the truck is loaded and I await further adventures. If misery truly builds character, I am excited about the awesome person I am about to become.
If you dream to write an action/thriller novel and need inspiration, go boldly with U-Haul. If not, pay a little more and venture with Ryder or Penske.
Answer: Thought it would be cheaper but worst experience ever and they stole lots of $ from me.
Answer: UHAUL IS CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THERE MONEY. OVER CHARGES BY CHEATING YOU. There equipment clearly stated rent me $19.99per day. Not $109. Or $126.61. Per day.
Answer: Scammy. Just try leaving a negative review for uhaul itself (not the little mom n pop pickup/dropouts the big company responsible for the bull)...it's impossible
Answer: From my experience I've noticed uhaul only allows you to review the pickup and dropped location and generally where I am at least, those folks are great and helpful. The huge conglomerate running the show is at fault but there seems to be no way to easily review them specifically. They screwed me too and I wondered the same. Maybe some folks had a positive experience but I believe you are correct. Negative reviews are definitely being screened out. Sorry you had a crappy move too.
Answer: I did a complaint online and then called but with the same result, they couldn't find me in their system. I need to wait 24 to 72 hours for the manager to investigate.
