“Ebay to my rescue!”

Ebay sorted my problem in full and deserve 5 stars as they are fair in the end. Thank Mr Ebay. Please do stop such practices adopted by sellers as that will increase public confidence.

“Ebay did not honor guarantee”

A seller reported a package delivered to my address. We do not have USPS delivery here everything is left at our local office or PO Box when possible. I continued to check the post office for over a week with the postmaster. The package never arrived. I contacted the seller who said it was signed for, but it was never signed for because I am the only one who signs for anything or checks the mail. Ebay closed the case telling me no refund would be sent. There is no way this package was ever delivered, and absolutely no way I signed for it. Ebay is supposed to provide Buyer protection. They do not! I will never use Ebay again.

Good overall but disappointed by sellers' tendency to try to buy you off so you don't post the truth about a poor product.

I had been a loyal customer and buyer on eBay for the past 13-14 years (from 2007-2008 to 2021). I had purchased tens of thousands of goods/products on their website during this time period. However, I recently found out how little they valued my business and how little they respect buyers. I had ordered some trading cards/stickers from a seller in early March. For some reason, the USPS seized the package before delivery and indicated insufficient address. I provided the correct address (same one I've used for several years). The seller immediately sent me a harassing message and cursed at me with zero provocation. I later on provided seller feedback that he harassed and cursed at me. The seller then provided buyer feedback calling me derogatory names and saying something else I can't repeat here.

I reported the seller to eBay. I also called the eBay customer service line as well as e-mailed eBay customer service and requested that the derogatory feedback be taken down. Not only did they not take the derogatory feedback down, they removed my feedback and accused me of feedback extortion. EBay also threatened me with suspension. I then reported eBay to the Better Business Bureau, in two separate complaints (one for the nasty treatment and one to get my refund - since I never received the product). They ignored the one complaint entirely. I finally heard back on the refund complaint. They denied my request, but thankfully, my credit card company has my back.

The representative from eBay pretty much glossed over everything and didn't even address the feedback issue whatsoever. They claim that whatever discipline they administer to a seller is confidential. However, I highly doubt they did anything at all, especially since the seller was so eager to be abusive towards me from the onset (obviously hasn't been disciplined before) and the fact that the vile, derogatory feedback about me is still on my eBay feedback board for everyone to see. EBay rewards abusive sellers and punishes innocent buyers. They have no problem being disrespectful towards me either. I will never buy anything on their website again.

I recently sold a secondhand Camera on eBay for $2050 plus $20 postage.
However eBay no longer users PayPal for payments and eBay now handle this themselves.
In due course eBay transferred $1787. 92 short by some $282.08 off the sale price. They had taken GST (this was new I never had GST removed for secondhand items prior?)
When packing the camera for postage it was dropped from a table causing damage and it would no longer turn on. I then contacted the buyer to inform him of this and further offered a refund.
When I looked for a refund method on eBay I could not find one unlike Paypal where there is a refund button. So I told buyer to request a goods return even though he had not received the goods as this would be quicker.
This he did but eBay took the full amount of $2070 and not $1787. 92 as paid to me.
When I contacted eBay via chat mode, It seems you can't just ring and speak with someone as I looked everywhere for a phone number with no luck.
I was informed that the $282.08 would be returned to me in 60 to 72 days? Further eBay was closing my account without appeal, due to activity that is dangerous to the eBay community?
I asked what I had done to cause this action and I was promptly told that they were unable to tell me why and I cannot appeal their decision.
I have been selling on eBay for 17 years and I have hundreds of positive feedbacks from 100's of happy buyers and no negative feedbacks. So I am at a loss to no why and I cannot appeal… if I have unwittingly done something wrong I'd like to know, wouldn't anyone? It turns out that the damage to camera was easily fixed, the battery had shaken loose… so I will be selling it elsewhere, anywhere but eBay.

The short version is that I logged into eBAY, UPDATED MY MAILING ADDRESS, purchased an item, and they told me they would send it to an old address they had populated from elsewhere.

I immediately informed them, and eBay said, we don't care, tell the seller.

Their contact info for the seller was inaccurate, so I had to hunt them down. I found the seller and contacted them, and they said we don't care, we're going to mail it to this old address eBay supplied.

I contacted the post office, but they said the shipper had not made available any means to intercept or redirect the package, even if I paid extra.

The item was lost forever. EBay said the seller probably didn't see my message until after it was sent - but the seller replied to my message, which was sent within at most 20 minutes of seeing that eBay intended to ship my package to a wrong address rather than the one I had given them. The seller ("my-best-source") literally told me they were going to send it to the wrong address. It wasn't shipped until the following day. They stole $70+ from me, and gave me nothing in return.

Please never, ever try to buy anything from eBay, and certainly not from "my-best-source." You will regret it. They automatically generate fake 5-star reviews when you place an order! My experience - the most awful customer service experience I've ever had - generated fake 5-star reviews. They then don't let you rate the company that cheats you for at least a full week, by which time most people have forgotten.

Go to a reputable company like Amazon instead - or better yet, find small, independent sellers rather than experienced but dying corporate cheats like the ones who run eBay.

Lets face it, eBay is the world's flee-market! They don't like to think of themselves this way but it is true. Think about it... You can find almost anything you are looking for and most of the time a lot less.

About 6 months ago, we needed a part for our home heating system. The part was about $199.00 locally. We found it on the web for $119.00 and was about to purchase it (thinking we were saving $80 bucks!) when I decided to check eBay. EBay had one for $36.00 and another for $17.95! A savings of $182.00 over what I found locally. Also found a new A/C compress for my truck for $80.00 when Autozone wanted $249.00.

How can anyone not like eBay? I have never been let down as a buyer of ebay items however, as a seller, we have had our share of "problem customers" because they do not read the complete description in the ad.

The only problem I have with eBay itself, is once you get use to it and how it works they change something! They use to show the bidder's user name. I could watch that name to see if it was a fake ad or a shill bidder. You can't do that anymore since they no longer display the bidder's user name (they do show it to you if your are the seller of the item).

Anyway, just remember to read the complete item description and if you see a $1000. 00 item getting ready to sell for $25.00, be afraid, very afraid... It's a scam item and they want you to send them money using Western Union (which eBay advises against...) or to PayPal them to a different email address. Hackers do this because they have hijacked someone sellers account and need you to send the money to a different PayPal account - not the hijacked account's Paypal account.

Good Luck and Happy Bidding!

I don't use eBay anymore because it is a part of PAYPAL and PAYPAL sucks! Amazon is much better anyway and they take normal payments, bit the PAYPAL nightmare that too many deal with on eBay.

Depending on what I use Ebay for my experiences vary wildly.

First, the good: the site is fairly easy to use, you can set up an ad and sell your unwanted stuff or take it a step further. It used to be a bit easier before they set their ridiculous standard of 500 pix minimum for pictures (yes, I like clear photos, but zooming in a tad further on some would get you more info). If an ad has a bad photo you can always ask to clarify. With a standard, unpaid account you get 50 listings free (auction or buy it now) which is nice.

The bad: Yes, there are some scammer out there on both sides of the spectrum (I buy and sell there myself, so I have seen both). I strongly suspect the site has an algorithm working for it as well; if it suspects it can sell you something say goodbye to ever getting any 'extra' free ad space. I keep my buying separate from my selling (allowed) and I get free listing offers on my buying account all the time which are never mirrored on my selling account (which I don't use). And I do mean NEVER.

The ugly: customer service. Good God, the customer service. As a seller, no matter what the issue, just save yourself the aggravation and don't call them unless you have a couple of hours to spare and are prepared to take it to the top. The 'seller protection' means nothing, that's just a marketing trick. Don't fall for the 'we'll call you back' either; believe me, they won't and you will have to start all over again. Honestly... there is no service there. Over the years i have used Ebay I have gotten so aggravated with this part of it that if a viable competitor were to arrive (and no, it's not you Shopify) I would jump without question.

My review was concerning eBay's " money back guarantee " to "buyers" which puts a burden on "sellers" for a potential loss of the sale, loss of money for item and shipping costs and potential loss of "seller's" item if not being mail returned after a " not as described " complaint is issues by " buyer".
I filed a complaint with the BBB. At that point eBay DID respond to my complaint. EBay AGREED to pay me for the price the original winning bid price of the watch. Yet before writing my complaint to the BBB. My appeal was closed and eBay allowed the "buyer" to keep the ( my) watch, and he got a refund for what he originally paid for the watch, because My account was debited the cost of the sale price of the watch. I appreciate eBay's reconsideration and only hope they will change their business model. As for me I'm onto to other companies of C2C potential where I won't sign up unless I like their business model. Without satisfaction from both parties of C2C sale/auction inventory will dwindle which does not make for a good experience for potential " buyers". There has to be a "Win Win" for both involved in C2C transactions.

Ebay favors buyers in " money back guarantee " policy
June 25th, 2021
• Previous review

Ebay buyers can return anything as long as they state "not as described" after the won bid sale. I sent proof to Ebay that buyer was wrong and dishonest in his rationale for a return. EBay still favored the buyer in the dispute. Then Ebay reversed their decision and favored me in the dispute. Then Ebay again reversed the decision and favored the "buyer". Buyer then was refunded what he paid for the watch and kept my watch. EBay did not assist me in getting my watch back. I lost the sale and my watch to Ebay's " money back guarantee " policy. Watch was brand new, worth $200. I will cancel my Ebay membership that I have had for years. Amazon and Etsy are just two of many new E commerce choices I have to switch over to. I wasn't aware of these draconian rules of Ebay that favors the buyer almost always. The internet is full of lawsuits and complaints regarding this very issue. Know that if buyer asks for a refund, you have 3 days to send them a prepaid shipping label to mail your item back to you. Yes YOU have to pay for the shipping cost to get your property back. And if you don't do this in time Ebay will close the case in the " buyers" favor. In my case Ebay was vacillating back and forth in it's decision in the case. Then suddenly closed the case refusing to open the case for arbitration of me getting my property item ( watch) back, or compensation. EBay representatives said " we never saw the item for sale, therefore we don't know the true condition of what your item of sale was in". And for this reason they have to take the word of the buyer that "not as described" statement from " buyer's " complaint is accurate.

Tip for consumers:
Know that if you sell a item your at risk of having to return the item if buyer makes excuses such as “ not as described”. Doing research on the web shows Ebay usually favors the buyer in a dispute over a return request by buyer. And in my case buyer kept my item and received a full refund and my Ebay account was debited. Total loss to me as a seller.
