“Ebay to my rescue!”

Ebay sorted my problem in full and deserve 5 stars as they are fair in the end. Thank Mr Ebay. Please do stop such practices adopted by sellers as that will increase public confidence.

“Ebay did not honor guarantee”

A seller reported a package delivered to my address. We do not have USPS delivery here everything is left at our local office or PO Box when possible. I continued to check the post office for over a week with the postmaster. The package never arrived. I contacted the seller who said it was signed for, but it was never signed for because I am the only one who signs for anything or checks the mail. Ebay closed the case telling me no refund would be sent. There is no way this package was ever delivered, and absolutely no way I signed for it. Ebay is supposed to provide Buyer protection. They do not! I will never use Ebay again.

As a buyer I have never really had a problem with eBay, but as a seller it's only getting worse, you really don't get any help from eBay as a seller, it's all about keeping the buyer happy, no matter how bad a buyer maybe, I've lost money because of bad buyers, but eBay doesn't want to hear it, and sides with the buyer every time, but if you don't have sellers, you don't have buyers.

EBay does not protect the seller. I am sure you all have seen this before. Even if you say "no refunds", eBay will require you to give a refund. Their favorite line I have seen is that there is no telling how the item was shipped out. A Limited Edition item was opened by the buyer who claimed it was defective because of "severe" paint damage. The image sent didn't back the claim but eBay does not care. EBay's concern is that they don't want the buyer to go to their bank and claim they didn't do the transaction. (How do I know well because their customer service rep stated it. Then tried to tell me that I should have requested the seller pay for the refund label.) It is better to have the seller bite the bullet than them. Does not matter that the item cannot be resold. Does not matter that the seller had the item for more than 2 weeks. What matters is that they don't want to lose funds. They say they protect the seller by having them offer the refund and then they can open a claim that the seller lied. (Sellers can only do this after they have gotten their time back, not before. Reporting a bad buyer happens only after you got your item back.) Again, remember eBay said they don't know how the item was shipped. It won't end in your favor. The best thing to do is not sell things that are collectors on eBay or be very picky with who you sell to. EBay does not care if the seller has high ratings and the buyer has close to none. What matters to them is ensuring they keep money in their pockets. So do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Sell items on your own, like Facebook Market or anything but eBay.

It's easy to be a buyer over there, however being a seller is not good. At least I didn't like my experience as a seller, thus I prefer local garage sales rather than online auctioning.

The customer service agents takes at least 15 minutes to attend the call. The same old answer they give is "please contact the seller". I'm not sure if they are trained with only this line.

Ebay is a safe place to buy, but buyer need to be careful. Not all the seller are honest and good, but if you have problems in your order, ebay can help in some ways.

I am very unhappy with the high fees and MORE importantly NO SELLER SUPPORT EBAY! The micro-managing on the part of Ebay staff is ridiculous and the seller no longer has any kind of voice but the expectations are constantly raised on the sellers.
Have I been screwed by Ebay? Nope. No horrible experiences to relate. No hidden agenda. Just wishing the old Ebay (pre-2008) I knew would surface from the rubble.
I do NOT recommend selling to potential new sellers on Ebay. I cannot imagine starting as a seller in their horrible environment as I've been "almost" screwed by buyers by not realizing that Ebay did not have my best interests and had certain DEFAULT settings in my account set so that I could be screwed (and this is after having the same acct with them for over 10 years!) Run, do not walk away from Ebay.

Ebay's Authentication program is a scam, that supports shady dealers. I was sold a blantently damaged Kobe Bryant Topps Finest Heirs rookie card. There is bubbling in the dead center of the card, on Kobe's shoulder but this wasn't listed in description or viewable in the photos the seller dcsports87, provided. When I received the card I could see there was a problem with something on Kobe arm but had to open the ebay authentication seal to see if it was the ebay authentication bag, or the other two sleeves the card was in. Once I broke the ebay seal bag, Ebay said I could no longer return the card despite the 100% money back guarantee they constantly promote. The card is still in a sealed sleeve, so it can't be touched. Feel totally swinddled by the seller and dealer Ebay.

Tip for consumers:
Don't trust the authentication program at Ebay

EBay's return policies favor the buyer and put sellers at a significant disadvantage. I sold a high end espresso machine on eBay, $2,500 when new, and shipped it half way across the country to the buyer in Washington state. During shipping time, the buyer found a different machine that they wanted instead (actually said this in their message to me), falsely claimed it was damaged when they received it, and eBay return policies made me accept a return and refund their money anyway. It's not even remotely fair to ask a seller to take the time and expense to ship an expensive item to a buyer who can make any claim they want, and even say they found a different item in a message to me, and still require the seller to accept a return and refund. What's worse, I could find no way to even discuss this with a human being at eBay.

This isn't Amazon or Walmart selling a book to an online customer and accepting a return. I'm an individual selling an expensive, fairly represented item to a person who changed their mind when they found what they thought was a better deal. EBay should not subject their sellers to such unfair practices, it has put me in a horrible position.

EBay is reasonable OK for buyers, and PayPal usually resolves most issues. As they side with the buyer, the seller may not get the best deal. Selling is surprisingly expensive.

Tip for consumers:
1. You can get good used items from reputed eBay stores. Example: Roberts camera for photography needs.
2. Do note, PayPal may offer protection for up to 6 months. This was useful when I didn't receive an item and eBay protection had expired. PayPal refunded.
Edit: PayPal is a different company. I think?! But they are connected to eBay (not certain on this!)

EBay IS a great place to sell some items & make some extra cash HOWEVER their "Buyer-Biased" return policy is THE worst policy I have ever seen. Almost always siding with the buyer if there is any issue whatsoever That certainly is not fair to the seller who comes across that shady buyer that knows how to work eBay's policies

It is a great site to search weird things like old football cleats or gloves for a low price.
It would be better if shipping filters can be more flexible.

I am extremely disappointed with Ebay. A relative of mine had their account restricted for something that occurred within their account. About a year later, they SOMEHOW made some RANDOM CORRELATION with MY account and also restricted my account. This was for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. I have been a loyal ebay customer for YEARS and have ALWAYS abided by their terms. I have 100% positive reviews and have never had any issues with ANY customers. However Ebay decides they're going to restrict my account because of SOME correlation, which by the way THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME WITH. So, now I have no idea what made them restrict my account, and they will do nothing for me. Their only response was "you can continue to buy, but you cannot sell." Why the hell WOULD I EVER buy from ebay after treating me this way?!?! Extremely disappointed with ebay. I have taken my sales elsewhere.

Ebay really doesn't give a hoot about the consumer or the seller for that matter. Once they get your money they are done. And how about that money back guarantee, good luck in getting your money back in a timely manner. Once they have your money they put road blocks all along the way to stall you from getting your money back. I guess they are collecting as much interest as possible. Grant it one purchase that has gone wrong is not much but if, let's say 1000 bad transactions occur daily then it starts to add up.
They just tell you have to wait another 4 days and then another 4 days, etc.

They also scam you on shipping and handling charges, they will charge you tax on the postage portion if your state mandates they collect state sales tax. However, states do not collect tax on postage; they will only collect tax on handling if the seller states there is a handling fee for the transaction. They are committing fraud flat out! I have been charged tax on several transactions that should never have been taxed on the postage part of the purchase. They are just taking these monies and putting it in their pockets.
And what does their CS say? I'm sorry but that's just how the system works.

I love shopping on eBay because it's usually the cheapest place on the internet to buy whatever I want or need. I've bought over 100 items on eBay, and for the most part, I'm very glad I did because I'm sure I've saved 100's of dollars by doing so. Their selection is huge, and once you understand how everything works in their system, it should be an enjoyable shopping experience for you. I usually just pay the "buy it now" price for my item(s), but I've also won several auctions as the highest bidder on unique items, and also paid less by 'making an offer' to the seller when it's an option for the item (and the seller accepts my offer). I can't comment on selling anything on eBay, because I never have. Finally, I'm mostly satisfied with eBay's customer service/resolution department for any issues I've had. My only real complaint is that there are some seller's I've bought from on eBay that ended up being fictitious accounts (I never received the item I purchased). But because of eBay's guarantee, I was issued a full refund for my purchase price and shipping once the resolution department researched the issue and decided in my favor.

This is a terrible company. I bought items that claimed to be originals but they were counterfeits! How can ebay allow people to sell counterfeit items? I also bought an item recently and there was no way to cancel the item after the order. Most companies give you the option to cancel an order right away; ebay does not. After I got the item, I returned it and was charged for the return, even though it clearly said FREE RETURNS on the product page. The seller told me that he can only give a partial refund while ebay would give back the rest of the money. There was no simple way to get the full refund; I had to call ebay and spend an hour on the phone in order to get the refund process started. In the end, they did not honor the full refund. They still owned me 1 penny. I made a big deal out it, only because out of JUSTICE, they owe the FULL amount back. It's absolutely unacceptable for them to steal money, if it's a penny or more. It took another hour on the phone for them to finally own up to their mistake. They sent an email saying that in 48 hours I would see the full refund posted on my paypal account It's been 5 DAYS and I STILL dont have the full amount refunded on my paypal account. Other problems include: their emails have a ton of grammatical errors. Many of their operators are incompetent, and can't talk or write clearly. I had cases of operators chuckling and being rude, which is totally unprofessional, and ebay does nothing to discipline them.

With 'customer service' this bad, I wonder why serious businesses even bother with the hassle of selling on eBay any more. I know I had to stop for the sake of my mental health.

The danger for consumers is that, because of eBay's vast reach and the millions of part-time, non VAT-registered sellers, many businesses are often selling at lower prices than on their own website, despite eBay's ever-increasing charges (remember when they were about 5% and no fees on postage?).

The consequence could be that in another decade or two, nearly all internet sales are handled through third party sites like eBay and Amazon. Businesses will basically no longer be independent, increasing amounts of merchandise will be banned as they are deemed politically incorrect (such as all Confederate flag items, as just one example).

They will be able to set prices by setting their fees and we will only have easy access to the books they think we ought to read and the music and films we should own and the food we should eat.

Join me in boycotting eBay, as a seller and as a buyer, otherwise we will be at the mercy of these kind of companies and in my experience, they don't do much inn the way of mercy.

I offered jewelry on EBay and receives two bids. Both were frauds. One I caught and one I shipped to. EBAY COULD NOT HAVE CARED LESS.
They suggested I call the police and report the loss. They are the vehicle for the thieves to get to sellers and the frequency suggests that they have made it easy to do and that their disclaimers protect them. I am asking for similarly defrauded seller to contact me and we see if there is the basis for a class action suit.

I was sent the wrong ring. I got a smokey quartz and I needed amethyst

I didn't want to have to pay to ship it back since I didn't do anything wrong. Ebay insisted I give the seller my paypal information so she can send me money to pay for shipping. Which I refused for security reasons. After that they wanted me to front the money to return the ring and the seller would reimburse me. I refused. Why should I have to front a perfect stranger 60$ when I already paid 88$ for the ring and this isn't my fault? Now the ring has been sent back, the seller has my money. And Ebay decided in favour of the seller. The sellers are paying ebay for listings. Buyers aren't charged anything unless they make a purchase. So guess who ebay sides with?
I'm out 88$ plus what I paid to return the ring. To top it off, all the seller had to do to prevent this whole mess is check to make sure she was sending the right item. She even told me she didn't even know the ring was manufactured using the smokey quartz, that's competence for you! Now I will challenge the charge with my credit card company.

Don't buy anything on ebay. They don't care about buyers or what's fair. In fact, I'm pretty sure they don't care about the consumer laws. Don't do it. You have no rights on Ebay.
