Hello!
I booked a property last year in march in London. Because of covid situation i was unable to travel to London. The host ROBERT BASSETT refused to give me my money back. Homeaway/VRBO tried to help me receive my money, but Robert refused to refund. So STAY AWAY fRom ROBERT BASSETT in London property id is #******* - HE IS NOT A TRUSTED HOST.
I highly recommend you DON'T use VRBO / HomeAway. The company is run by India and they simply put you on hold and hang up on you! Any money in dispute with HomeAway will be lost! Don't wast your time asking for their assistance. Just file a claim with your credit card company. The company withholds the truth. They do NOT want the Homeowner to issue the full refund so they can keep the administrative fee. Homeowner and I realized this when we began working together and found Homeaway created the issue INTENTIONALLY!
My renter in Ocean City, NJ (24 Tonkin Court, Ocean City, NJ) turned out to be a weirdo. He barged into our rental at 10 PM without warning when we texted him that the hot water was not working. Then he came the day after looking through the window when my wife was not dressed. We left a day early after that incident. I called Homeawaw to complain - they did not want to hear it.
The Homeaway fees are outrageous. I booked, then cancelled when I came to my senses. 17 days later, their $89 service fee had not been refunded to my credit card. I spent 22 minutes on the phone and talked to 3 people in order to get a refund processed. STAY AWAY FROM HOMEAWAY!
In January 2017 we spent a month at this home with our 2 dogs. The home was neat, clean and very tidy. The yard was totally fenced for the dogs which was awesome and scads of walking trails. The only issue we had was trying to start the barbeque and when we notified the owner we had a new barbeque within hours. Without a shadow of a doubt we would stay again.
I booked a reservation based on their cancellation policy but when attempting to cancel because of a change of plans the cancellation policy was not honored and a refund not issued. Homeaway did nothing despite their 100% refund policy but refer me to the owner.
I tried to book four places on Homeaway. Each booking requires 24 hour before the reservation is confirmed, so you'll need a lot of time - days before you have a confirmation! Each time that Homeaway says it was available, it wasn't. When I got a a place that was available, the host said I wasn't a "verified" user - whatever that is. STAY AWAY from homeaway!
This booking fee is really hurting my business. In my advertising I have always used VRBO because they had no booking fee. This weekend I will be changeing all the information in my adds and useing AIRBNB as my primary. Although Airbnb does charge a booking fee as well, it is a much lower %. I am a economy booking that apeals to lower middle class families. Especially families of lower enlisted Soldiers. A 9% booking fee has them spending a extra 50-100 bucks they simply can't afford. I am very disappointed in these changes. I would love to use VRBO as my primary again if you make adjustments but for the time being I will direct my customers elsewhere
Becarful when you try to get a rental they want credit card at front. Later they say is not available and still charge charge me 1432. 00 to my credit card and the owners are overseas im still battling to get my credit card charge taken away
They scam you out of your money and give you the run around after they say they will give you a full refund you never get back and makes threats and discriminated my wife and it's going on a month and nothing been refunded and it's been a nightmare it's a scamming business had over 1000 dollars come out of my account and had to get a new bank card
Homeaway and VRBO are the most greedy company i have experience! Not only do they charge 3% credit card fee, service charge fee and advertising fee. I have started looking thru https://www.perfectplaces.com/. Perfectplaces doesn't charge service fee and the advertising fee is reasonable.
Booked a house in October for two families for Dec 28-30. Owner cancelled on me on Dec 23rd. Never got a full refund. When the owner cancelled, I called home away to book a new house and since I hadn't gotten any money back yet I expected them to at least waive their booking fee. Manager told me that their "system" won't allow them to do that. Been three weeks, 5 phone calls, and about 4 hours on the phone, still haven't recieved a full refund. Again I'm told their "system" can't refund me, the owner has to. Their "system" had no problem taking $1011 out of my account within 2 hours of me booking. Funny how that works. Never again.
I strongly advice against using this website to rent out your property. I am a property manager and have 10 houses on this website and they just keep changing the rules about when and where your house is situated. If you don´t rent out 3 times or don´t have any reviews in the last year your house simple doesn´t appear when you search for it. And if you call to complain they just keep repeating you have to accpet more bookings or ask for more reviews. But if the house doesn´t appear you can´t get any bookings or reviews. Meanwhile I pay 300 per house only not to have it appear. Complete rip off. Oh and if you want to cancel your subsription you wont get any money back.
A homeaway host broke our house.

Home Away got our money and canceled the listing of our vacation home.

My friends and I are currently being denied access into a home we rented for the weekend because according to the "seller" she never received the payment. I told her I can email a copy of the invoice my friend and I had, to prove the payment. We also told her we each had a pay pal receipt number. Pam Shier claimed she never received the email, which is hilarious considering there weren't any discrepancies when we were paying! She also didnt allow me to speak. She went off saying she doesn't have any emails from me and that I am trying to scam her. What? My friend and I contacted PayPal who filled a dispute against this fraudulent owner. The next day he received an email saying the owner is issuing a refund. I'm still waiting on my case
My fiance and I, plus two of our friends were trying to book a place in Texas for a weekend during our honeymoon. The first place we found was listed for a price and we booked it. I received a call the next day that there was a "glitch" in the website and that the price was about 4x as much as the price that it originally was. So we tried to find another place. I should have stopped there. I tried to book another place and when they tried to charge me, my bank stopped the charge from going through, except I got no call from my bank about it, only from someone who worked at the place we were trying to book, not the actual owner of the place. It all seems really shady and not well coordinated, and unsafe. I am really displeased and am done wasting my time trying to book places through here.
I booked a cottage for the Christmas holiday through HomeAway. Even though the dates said it was available, I got a response back from the owner that it was already booked. I had given my credit card info to HomeAway so I calledl them right away to let them know I wasn't able to rent and not to charge my card. They assured me it would be fine. As it turns out I didn't get charged for the rental but I was charged a service fee of $90 Canadian. I called to make sure I would be refunded and was told that in up to 14 days I would be automatically refunded. That was 6 weeks ago and no refund. I tried to call their *******145 today and it is out of service. I have given up on this but be warned not to deal with this company. By the looks of the other reviews, this is a common occurrence with this company.
Add my name to the list of people jobbed by HomeAway. HomeAway charges your credit card and then says "too bad" if you have any issues with the owner. In our case we had to cancel and the owner kept our security deposit, cleaning fee, parking fee and beach access fee in addition to the rental fee! Basically the owner made well over twice as much from us cancelling than if we had used the place. AirBNB is miles ahead in everyway if you are a renter.
I had a dream vacation set up for my family to go to Disney in Florida. I rented a home in Windsor Hills what a mistake never again. Also my security deposit has never been returned the home was cleaner when I left than when I arrived. Never again will I use Homeaway or VRBO
Never paid any Annual subscription for your listings! This website is a SCAM! I paid $499 for 12 months and after 5 months, they suspended the payments due to a issue with Yapstone payment so No reservation, nobody can pay online and HOMEAWAY don't want to refund me! You have to sign an agreement with no refund anyway!
Be Aware! Never pay any suscription on this website, it's a SCAM!
Furthermore, worst service customer, hard to reach them and incompetent staff!
Answer: Homeaway is charging a fee for paying through them. They said it was to improve marketing and because renters like to pay through them. As some one who is listed through Homeaway I find this practice destructive both to the owners and renters. I encourage all potential renters to contact the owners directly and pay us directly. Owners already pay a fee. If the owners want to be listed in higher tier you have to pay more. To me they are just trying to find ways to make more money at both the owners and renters expense without improved service for either.
Answer: Go elsewhere. Sadly what started as a very good site many years ago has evolved into an unethical monopoly that has a sole interest. Profit. They do not care about owners or travelers. They exist to remove you from your money, and will say one thing and do another. They have lost the faith and trust of both, and it is well-deserved. Anyone coming on board with any of HomeAway's companies as a traveler or host would be foolish considering their underhandedness.
Answer: That's a toss up... Kinda like eBay with sellers and no feedback... In general... I don't trust Home away anymore than I can throw em... cuz they are gonna side with their rentors and not you...
Answer: No, they won't. Worst agency I ever dealt with. Warn all you friends. They should be put out of business.
Answer: HomeEscape.com is relatively new but with the new Expedia Service charges on HomeAway/VRBO, the homeowners are moving over to HomeEscape in droves. Over the next year as the HomeAway subscriptions expire many of the homeowners will not renew with HomeAway if HomeEscape turns into a good alternative. In general we (homeowners) are pretty upset that Expedia is going to make over 4Billion in added income from our customers just in the first year of the fee, if folks continue to book through them. Many of us will feel pressure to lower our rental income but if you only knew our expenses you would know this is not really a big money maker for us - personally, these fees will actually put us well into the red. So, for our guests and ourselves, HomeAway will no longer be a site we do business with once our subscription expires. And, though we used to rent through them at least once a year, we're done with that as of now.
Answer: This was my first and last experience using a similar service. I have been traveling for years, staying at hotels, with no problems. Given my experience with homeaway, I will only use reputable hotels from now on.
Answer: If I were you I would run as far as you can from these people!
Answer: I don't think our guests are aware of the rip-off yet. Look what it took for us to figure out what they are doing.
Answer: Avoid them at all cost! They're criminals!
Answer: Trust me, Homeaway does NOT assist you contrary to what you might think of them as sort of a back-up if there are problems. It's the worst agency I've ever dealt with.
