They don't cover so many of my medicines. You pay $500 on a generic medication that previously cost $10 on BCBS, that now requires prior authorization from a doctor because its not the first medication on the 'step therapy' ladder, even though the two medications are completely different. I will honestly start looking at my health insurance policy before deciding on accepting a job offer from now on.
Optum Rx makes everything as difficult as possible. They treat my need to order diabetic test strips like I am asking for opioids. Took the doctors three phone calls to get information to them. Then two more phone calls from me to get a pharmacist to take a couple of weeks to send them out to me. Unbelievable. On top of that, you can tell they are working from home, because the kids are screaming in the background, making communication even harder.
I was used to using CVS's website when my company required us to switch to Optum Rx. I've been struggling for the last 2 years to try to get my doctor's fax number updated from Pennsylvania to Milwaukee. No luck - have to call every time I get a notification that they can't contact my doctor. So I try to track status on their website, and its usability is beyond bad. Where CVS had one line to tell me what was ordered, when the next refill was, etc., Using Optum's means hunting across multiple screens, drilling down, looking in different places, and still having a hard time getting a full picture of something simple like how many refills, when the next one is due, and who the prescribing doctor is.
Optum makes it nearly impossible to get any prescriptions. I can't get the meds my provider prescribed over a month ago. Optum is putting my health at increased risk. They don't provide any clear instructions and don't work with many local pharmacies.
The absolute worst experience dealing with a pharmacy in 20 years I have been on meds. They intentionally deny every drug first and make you go through long tedious appeals process. Their hold times on the phone are criminal. No one answering the phones knows what they are talking about. Their scam is they keep referring you back to the insurance to appeal and the insurance refers you back to Optum. It becomes a loop you can't ever escape. They are destroying people's lives.
I was wary of that company from the beginning. Had a very difficult time getting prescriptions added and they wouldn't answer when my physicians called. And now, when I finally got one to go through and am on my second refill, they send... AN EMPTY BOTTLE. Yes, you read that right. My completely sealed package/bottle arrived completely and utterly empty. I am upset with myself for how rude I was to the pharmacist, admittedly. I am also, however, confused and appalled at how this could have possibly happened. I asked if they had cameras in their fulfillment area and asked for an investigation. On top of this, they have denied me a medication that I need in order to function, even though I have 20 years of medical history and fulfill their own requirements. I just. I can't with them.
I don't understand how OptumRX is even legal. How are you gonna tell me what dose my daughter needs and then not cover what the actual doctor ordered? I have spent 5 days now trying to get a simple prescription filled. This is absolutely ridiculous and I can't express how much I hate this "service". How do you people sleep at night.
They are horrible! Currently trying to scam me for $1200 worth of meds and lying to me 1st saying they were at fault, and were going to send, then saying I received and signed! To make matters worse, I didn't even put in an order. I happened to be checking my claims and caught it--2 months later. Of course, my insurance is involved, but I've been in contact 4X's now and it's a different story every time!
My order of 5 medications was canceled. I did not know this as I was not contacted by email or text or phone. I called and got one heart medication to be coming by Express mail because I had been completely out of it It didn't arrive so I checked online. Also canceled. Why was I out of medication you asked? Because we had a company for 3 months over the summer that was terrible at filling orders but did at least have nice customer service. This company is an absolute joke and is simply making profits off of our insurance coverage.
We used Optum for the last year or so, and things ran mostly smoothly. Insurance changed at the beginning of the year, and no longer use them, except they won't release the RX to the new pharmacy, they keep "trying" to filling, but not doing so because my insurance won't cover it, and the new company can't fill it because it shows it's being filled by Optum. I've missed more doses than I've been able to take, and spent literally hours on the phone trying to deal with this.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
