We used Optum for the last year or so, and things ran mostly smoothly. Insurance changed at the beginning of the year, and no longer use them, except they won't release the RX to the new pharmacy, they keep "trying" to filling, but not doing so because my insurance won't cover it, and the new company can't fill it because it shows it's being filled by Optum. I've missed more doses than I've been able to take, and spent literally hours on the phone trying to deal with this.
My doctor writes me a prescription for my skin cancer medication and since it's taking longer then 6 months that's recommended they will no longer pay for it it wasn't such a good decision to pick United healthcare matter of fact is a pretty poor decision on my part but I will be looking to change it.
And how do you have proof if it's not approved
I have a 90 day prescription that has been returned to sender twice because they can't separate my street into two words. They were going to give me an emergency script to pick up at Walgreens. But when Walgreens called they said there were no refills. No duh it's was a 90 day supply that was the original that I still haven't received. Alex said to look it up a overdue from him, for an emergency script but everyone is so stupid and in another country so there's really no help. I am dropping out of this ASAP
I've been trying to get my prescription filled for over a month. Every time I call I am on hold for no less than 30 minutes and sometimes several different times just to be told I have a to call my local pharmacy. I've been on the run around with them meanwhile have no medication. I got a call from my local pharmacy saying the prescription was ready for pickup and by the time I got there the next day someone from Optum RX had called and had them cancel it. This place is a joke and if you can use anywhere else I highly suggest not wasting your time with these guys.
I am in need of a special medication. After them lying and said my Doctor office did not have my insurance I provide this information and the very next day they state it was rejected because I have two insurances which is not true. I explain what they were considering as an insurance was the company I actually work for that provides the insurance. Now the second day I am on the phone with this Optumrx company and have spoken with four reps. And they still don't know what is going on with the rejection after the insurance rep. Clearly stated the reason it's being rejected was due to the packaging. Which has nothing to do with me. When you are not feeling well the last thing you need to deal with is inadequate people dealing with your medication placing you on hold for ridiculous amounts of time. I've been on hold again over 30 minutes. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.
I would rather be racked over burning hot coals multiple times a day then to have to use this specialty pharmacy. They are the most incompetent organization I have ever dealt with in my entire life. They never follow up with the doctor. My doctor has to send a prescription multiple times before they have the competence to process it. Im a slave to the process because my health insurance forces me to use this pharmacy. What happened to free choice we live in America.
These people are so disconnected from the needs of the patients they do not send your meds on time you have to pay double copay to get a 10 day supply from the local pharmacy. Plus pay you deduction to this company for your late medicine with no reimbursement and their representatives are rude and non caring.
If at all possible, run from this company as fast as you can. They screw up everything they do to the point you think it's intentional. If you have to add or change a script it will be a exercise in futility.
I recently switched to OptumRx from recommendation by my insurer. They sent me medication I didn't need and sent 6 tubes of a medication that I barely use up in a year with 1-1/2 year expiration dates. And have the nerve to charge me when my local pharmacy does not.
Over the past few months, I have had errors in scripts filled, errors in pricing, errors in communication regarding script refills, and even lost scripts. I have been extremely frustrated with OptumRx requesting new scripts from physicians expressly against my explicit requests. (They continue to request new scripts from physicians when the older scripts have yet to be filled.) As one could reasonably assume, this also does not amuse my physicians, who are more than fed up with the pharmacy.
I have spent hours on the phone trying to remedy incorrect script requests and communications, to the point of having specific script information in hand, from the prescribing physician with script number, date, medication, dosage, quantity, and refills. Yet even with this very specific information in hand and provided, OptumRx manages to repeatedly request a brand new prescription from an outdated physician visit a year prior.
I struggle to convey the breadth and depth of my frustration with OptumRx, which by this point is paralleled by the frustration of the physicians and staff.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
